SUBJECT: H.R. 3962 Affordable Health Care for America Act.
ATTENTION: Voters of Tennessee U.S. Congressional District 6 of Rep. Barton Gordon (D)
Rep. Barton Gordon (D-TN6) voted against House- H.R. 3962 Affordable Health Care for America Act!
For 50 years the Democrats have been trying to get all of us covered for healthcare. Healthcare is and always will be a bedrock issue within the Democratic party.
Yes, we cannot believe it. It is worth saying again. Rep. Barton Gordon (D-TN6) voted against we OFA members, the Democrat National Party, and President Barack Obama.
We worked so hard and come so far not to see something so un-imaginable as this to happen in our own back yard. I am embarrassed and ashamed. We OFA members must not accept this failure to perform from our primary employee. I would at least understand a no vote from a republican. But a democrat? We OFA members must schedule and convene a meeting. As I see it, when an employee performs poorly we should issue a verbal or written warning and if it is egregious, termination. This is what happens to us at our jobs.
President Barack Obama has been pleading with us to keep informed and stay involved. We cannot leave him out there alone expecting him to do it all. Please, Please, Please help me, help yourself, help each other.
Please Respond A.S.A.P and if you read this weeks later.....Please Respond!!
We should have a rally titled "Take My America Back" ~Basically, instead of protesting, we have workshops...a workshop on how to manage your finances with credit cards--taught for free, by pros; workshop for easy how-to's to create less of a foot print on earth--all under 100 dollars (easy 'go green' meets HGTV); workshop on hospital terminology--so we can understand what doctors are actually telling us, now, and make better future decisions, now!; workshop on CPR--....enough said really; workshop on cooking for a family of 4--under 50 bucks a day; workshop titled 'xxnumber of ways to start losing weight--tomorrow' (take the steps, stretch more, really tho. Why do we only stretch when we have or anticipate the idea of future pain due to our own out-of-shapeness?;is that a real word?; workshop on being a new driver--partially taught by teens from that very same community; workshop titled 'not for me'-- workshop for young adults planning for their futures (only own what you can afford!); workshop on indentifying financial leakage--we dont 'need'...eeeeverything!; workshop on real third world countries--a humbling lesson learned when you see how good we really have it; and finally (cuz I really could go on forever)a workshop titled 'explain, please?!'--help people understand how to effectively utilize their cell phones (explain things like social networking/SMS/MMS/BBM/AIM/Apps/WAPs/GPS/VVM...wow!)
The Catch:
1)...I dont want to organize it by myself LOL 1.5) its FREE for all! 2) I would love to have each 'rally' have at least one local person in each and every workshop = dedicated AMERICANS giving up their free time to help other PEOPLE...and yes, I meant PEOPLE, all of them. 3)Ideally: head to toe voluntary...no one gets paid, its all voluntary!; not the sponsors, not the organizers, not the appearences, not the musical acts, not even the clean-up crew...I mean really...we have a ton of unemployed people sitting around with countless degrees and experience and nothing else to do. Lets step up! 4) Lastly, if this ever came to pass, I would love to present a check to the President of the United States, that day, on the National Debt (cummulation of tax free donations created from these events, by people who believe in helping others for the sake of helping others) This is our country...we already own it, so lets own up to it! I owe it to YOU! This is me taking ownership of my America (insert picture of Uncle Sam--ironic) America, you down?!
As I write this, the new data is being released on unempoyment reching 7.6%. That number is to easy to direagrd, let's talk PEOPLE ....598,000 of us lost jobs in January alone. 598,00 mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers are now without jobs while the congress talks about stimulous. this is a shameful turn. Isn't it time for the organizers and workers that elected the President to get on to the work of recalling obstructionist congressmen and senators? Each community needs to look at how their congressman votes (or doesn't) and decide if they need to be eliminated in an effort to get things rolling. It would take a few days for this orgraization to get reall petitions filed on every senator and congressman standing in the way of change, that will cause a amjor shift in thinking on "the hill". If they do not immidiately get on the bus, then we need to complete the task of removing them and replacing them with people dedicated to our interests.
How many more kids will come home to a parent crying? How many more people will look desperately for help and find none available? This is the time to change.

Take it from Horton.
Excerpts from Horton Hears a Who, written by Dr. Seuss
Horton fought back with great vigor and vimBut the Wickersham gang was too many for him. They beat him! They mauled him! They started to haulHim into his cage! But he managed to callTo the Mayor: "Don't give up! I believe in you allA person's a person, no matter how small! And you very small persons will not have to dieIf you make yourselves heard! So come on, now, and TRY!"The Mayor grabbed a tom-tom. He started to smack it.And, all over Who-ville, they whooped up a racked. They rattled tie kettles! They beat on brass pans,On garbage pail tops and old cranberry cans! They blew on bazooka and blasted great tootsOn clarinets, oom-pahs and boom-pahs and flutes!Great gusts of loud racket rang high through the air. They rattled and shook the whole sky! And the MayorCalled up through the howling mad hullabaloo:"Hey Horton! Hows this? Is our sound coming through?"And Horton called back, "I can hear you just fine. But the kangaroos' ears aren't as strong, quite, as mine. They don't hear a thing! Are you sure all you boysAre doing their best? Are they ALL making noise? Are you sure every Who down in Who-ville is working?Quick! Look through your town! Is there anyone shirking?"Through the town rushed the Mayor, From the east to the west. But everyone seemed to be doing his best.Everyone seemed to be yapping or yipping!Everyone seemed to be beeping or bipping! But it wasn't enough, all this ruckus and roar!He HAD to find someone to help him make more.He raced through each building! He searched floor-to-floor!And, just as he felt he was getting nowhere,And almost about to give up in despair,He suddenly burst through a door and that MayorDiscovered one shirker! Quite hidden awayIn the Fairfax Apartments (Apartment 12-J)A very small, very small shirker named Jo-Jowas standing, just standing, and bouncing a Yo-Yo!Not making a sound! Not a yipp! Not a chirp! And the Mayor rushed inside and he grabbed the young twerp! And he climbed with the lad up the Eiffelberg Tower."This," cried the Mayor, "is your towns darkest hour! The time for all Whos who have blood that is redTo come to the aid of their country!" he said."We've GOT to make noises in greater amounts! So, open your mouth, lad! For every voice counts!"Thus he spoke as he climbed. When they got to the top,The lad cleared his throat and he shouted out, "YOPP!"And that Yopp…That one small, extra Yopp put it over! Finally, at last! From that speck on that cloverTheir voices were heard! They rang out clear and clean. And the elephant smiled. "Do you see what I mean?…They've proved they ARE persons, no matter how small. And their whole world was saved by the smallest of All!"
I hope this brings a smile to your face and encourages you to give what you can to this campaign, whether it be time or money.
If you can, please DONATE to my fundraiser. Let's show the GOP that deception will not work this time!
YES WE WILL!!!
It’s only getting worse for working families as the cost of everything from gas to groceries keeps going up. That’s why I signed a petition supporting the Employee Free Choice Act, which would help level the playing field by making it easier for workers to join unions.
The goal is one million signatures. Will you take a moment to sign, and pass this along? Go to: http://freechoiceact.org/araw
Now is the time to organize for the general election. A great deal of work needs to be done. We need to recruit volunteers, do some very serious phone banking, register new voters, canvass neighborhoods, wear our buttons and other campaign materials (I like the car flag, a lot, and have some extras for those in the LA area), and GOTV (get out the vote).
We need to travel to the battleground, swing states, and do what we can to capture those electoral votes.
"We are the change that we've been waiting for." (What a BRILLIANT phrase.)
I agree with the most brilliant political mind to come along in at least two generations: NOW is our time to make a difference for the rest of human history. Do we fulfill our destiny? Or betray it?

100 days to get the issues out there!
Well, at least this year, the media hasn't decided that the most important issue to our country's safety and continued existence is guys kissing, or not kissing I guess it should be. So guys (and ladies if you so desire), go ahead, even the republicans are to scared to worry about you right now.
The things that matter are not only obvious, but being felt every single day by every American out there. We need to get out of Iraq. We need to stop telling other countries that we may go attack Iran. We need a clean energy policy that cuts, or even better, eliminates our dependency on foreign fuel sources that are funding, both directly and indirectly, the terrorists we are supposedly fighting. We need to regain the trust of the rest of the planet by electing a president who puts the country before his multi-national, bid-disliking, conglomerate buddies. We need a health care system that cares about us and not just "dolla dolla bill, ya'll". We need a president that will not tip the already lopsided Supreme Court right over the edge into fascism. This time, people already know that these issues are destroying our country. Surprise, Surprise, crude prices are falling and the price at the pumps isn't changing. The McCain health plan? Good luck! The McCain energy policy? same 'ol same 'ol. And McCain's plan in the Middle East? I bet if we tried really hard, we could start a bunch more wars. I love a good western movie as much as the next guy, but bombs aren't usually considered to be the first choice in your arsenal of diplomatic tools.
People don't have to agree with every single issue. The important thing to realize is that if you care about ANY of the issues, there is only one man who will deliver what our country needs and it's Barack Obama.
Many thanks to the 27 (!) people who showed up to find out more about the Obama campaign at the first Hartford Unite for Change house meeting. It was an inspiring evening, thanks to the often eloquent comments from attendees about their reasons for attending the meeting or wanting to be involved in the campaign. It was a great kickoff to further action in Hartford.
If you did not attend this meeting, please watch for the next one to come up. If you attend one, I'm sure you'll be glad you did. If you are interested in hosting one, that's even better. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or want help planning and running it. The challenge is not great; the rewards are.
Two Obama campaign field organizers attended our meeting. Both Tessa and Clay are going to be great for people in our area to work with. Watch for an opportunity to meet them! (Clay will be working with Washington County, Tessa with Ozaukee, but both will be in the West Bend field office at least for awhile.)
If you're in Hartford and have not yet joined the Hartford, Wisconsin for Obama group, please consider doing so, and tell anyone you know who might be interested.
Just over 100 days to the election! Let's get busy!
Keep July 19 2007 open for a fundraiser house meeting for folks in the Marietta, Kennesaw, Acworth and Cobb County area coming soon! More details later.

Greetings, all!
I'm pleased to be here, and look forward to meeting many of you, online and in our communities.
First, congratulations to Senator Obama on being the "presumptive" nominee (when can we just say "nominee"?). Why anyone would want this job, given the gigantic pile of garbage we have to clean up after 28 years of conservative rule, I'm not sure. But props to him for his willingness to tackle it.
I want to be clear about something. While I support Senator Obama for President, my policy preferences tend to be much more libertarian/left than he is. I don't hold this against him; I understand that "official" American politics is much more conservative than in other countries (see the chart at www.politicalcompass.org), and in fact, more conservative than most American citizens (see this poll from the good people at PIPA).
My point is that I'm not here because I think he's the end-all, be-all of America. I'm not here because I love his speeches (although the man absolutely DOMINATES that stage, surpassed only by Michelle Obama). I'm not here because I have faith in the Democratic Party or liberals (as the saying goes, Democrats are "10 degrees to the left of center when times are good, 20 degrees to the right of center when it threatens their interests").
I'm here because our country is in shambles. Because wages and salaries have been stagnant or declined since 1970. Because our courts are increasingly acting on behalf of the elite, and not the people. Because Americans have little or no control over their economy. Because education is obsolete at the K-12 level, and unaffordable at the college level. Because our foreign policy is imperialistic and profit-driven. Because workers lack the basic human right of association - the right to organize.
I'm here because while one person can't fix all of these things, a Democrat in the White House and a Democratic majority in the House and Senate will make it much easier for us to make these things happen. Every great change in American history, every expansion of democracy came not because our leaders woke up one day and decided, benevolently, to expand or protect our rights - it happened because we the people organized and struggled and MADE it happen. The greatest changes were in the 1930s and the 1960s, and it's no coincidence that Democrats controlled the government during both periods. It's easier for progressive citizens to get something done under Democrats than under Republicans.
With Obama in the White House, our job as citizens becomes a lot easier. That's why I'm here.
Appalachia knows the Clintons well, but they don't know Barack. They can be reached if he gets to know them, and talks about issues that are important to this area. There are a few issues that Democrats never seem to get right when they campaign here. Everybody knows we have problems with poverty and education, but there are other issues that never get addressed. People here care about:
I have a few ideas how Barack can make some friends in this area by addressing these issues.
I signed up to host an event for Obama on June 7th ant the nearby park. I thought that as in past years I would have a few people who might want to come out to help register voters for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon and bring thier kids. Well, Like most things this year when supporting Obama this event is quite different! I have found that there are more people that want to work to help him get elected than I thought possible when I started. I now have 99 people comming and this little evelt is going to be sooo... much fun. We will register people, eat good food, talk, meet our kids will play and we can start to organize for the genneral election campaign. This does feel like the grass roots of old.
There are millions of poor people in this country who have very little, or even nothing to lose. If they can be helped to take action together, they will do so with a freedom and a power that will be a new and unsettling force in our complacent national life. -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from WHY WE CAN'T WAIT, 1963.
Over the past few days, as the country reflects on the life and death of Martin Luther King, Jr., it is with a recognition that there is still much work to be done. Senator Obama eloquently called upon all of us to be active in bending the arc toward justice.
Dr. King and The Southern Christian Leadership Conference's "Poor People's Campaign," is a part of the story of Dr. King's legacy that is worthy of review. Economic Human Rights remains and issue of urgency now just as it was over 40 years ago.
