Our group sprang to existence out of the Obama grass roots campaign. We are currently working on an event on May 9th - Eating Right When Money is Tight. I am trying to create a Sign-in sheet and Evaluation and thought it would be nice to have a logo at the top.
I've been wanting to discuss the Obama Design since day one. Many people have agreed that the design behind the Obama campaign has been stellar and reaching people unlike previous elections. What is behind this?
The Symbol
So, never before have I seen such a flawlessly run design campaign.
Politics aside, the mobilization of the logos, the diverse options, and the inspiring mottoes and - dare I say - typeface have people eager to put stickers on their bumpers.
Seriously, never before have I been thinking about putting a bumpersticker on my car. Bumpersticker activism isn't how I want to change the world.
But the simple circle with the new day dawning over the striped fields...something about that image just gets into the core of me. It doesn't just represent Obama - it represents something deeper, something organic and powerful that connects us all to the earth beneath our feet and the people on the street.
Even if Obama didn't win, I really think this logo could be something people across the country could unite under. It represents the best of us, the intrinsic American spirit that is about community and roots, as well as change and growth.
You have to admit, it's fabulous design that manages to take one symbol and tweak it to fit so many different people. It gives credence to the underlying statement: that we are all equally important and united, despite our individual differences. (For a sample of the logos as made individualized for each voting group, you can check the BarackObama website, or you can read this blog that includes a sample of each. )
Designbay did a study of winning presidents and their logos, and then compared this year's candidates. The Obama logo is designed to win.
Designers Review the Branding
K-Co, my top-notch designer friend, and I have discussed the Obama branding and what makes it so alluring. The branding has a lot of designers talking. One designer and critic, Michael Beirut, was asked to give his opinions of the Obama branding and the effort that has gone into it. His views seem somewhat amazed at the level of detail put into the branding, and his tone sounds a bit conflicted. But he says it clearly - the design and branding are impeccable.
The website is part of the branding technique, and people definitely have opinions about that. Friends I've talked to find it simultaneously helpful and beautiful, but expansive and overwhelming. Back in 2007, the Bivings Report took a look at the Obama campaign site. They gave it pretty high reviews, although some issues were noted. Additionally, Brian Yerkes provided his own review in June of '08, which goes through some detail as to why the Obama website is superior.
In January '08, the Boston Globe put together a review of fonts by The Font Bureau, Inc. focusing on which fonts in the campaigns really speak of change.
The Website and the Store
Have you been to the BarackObama store? Not just your typical cheesy election stuff. The designs are quality and make you feel inspired and happy to be a part of the experience. In addition, if you're looking for something higher end, there are the Runway to Change and Artists for Obama lines. SwissMiss featured the newest art poster in a blog post a few days ago, referring to it as a "typographic waterfall" as lovingly as any designer might.
The problem? Everything I want (or can afford) is sold out! (Perhaps I should check out the Democratic Stuff website.)

For anyone looking for a higher resolution versions of the Obama Biden logo, I thought I would share some that I created from the PDF on the downloads section.
Below are thumbnails of the high-resolution images - click any one to where you can download them.
Note that I also have several PDFs available ready to print - these are vector based and size up without jaggies.
Obama and Apple do have a lot in common, including massive popularity with a cultlike following. They both have the image of being elegant, intelligent, open minded, groundbreaking, innovative, and even a little revolutionary.
I got a good response from the last Vote Different logo I made, so I put together another one.
Tom Fox needed his former SWAT truck to reflect his support for the Obama/Biden/Humanity campaign to win the election in Novemeber. After considering options over some fine breakfast at The Jones Eastside in Gainesville, FL, his waiter, Andrew Alves, proposed the he along with his fiance, Kate Sweeney and his brother, Daniel Alves, would design and paint a strong message of Obamaness. Check out the image and keep your eyes peeled. This will make heads turn!
Can anyone tell me what the campaign designers were thinking when they made Biden's name almost invisible on the ticket logo?
I am baffled and dismayed.
How do I obtain permission from the Obama campaign to use the logo in designs I'm creating?
I see tons of people using the logo and creating all sorts of items for sale. I doubt everyone selling their work is asking permission to use the Obama mark.
My intent is to work with the Obama mark, in unique design applications, offering them to the campaign store as creative contributions, OR sell the designed items then donate profits to the campaign.
Suggestions welcome.
THANKS!
Themes so far: 'OBAMA MOM" and "Obamican".
Just found this great new item in the Obama store. A South Carolina shaped, enameled lapel pin featuring the Obama Campaign Logo. Surely destined to become the must-have fashion accessory for fall. Get yours before they're gone, wear it with pride, and let's show everyone what good judgement and discernment in taste look like!!

I love the graphic on the Temescal Rockridge Neighborhoods for Obama site. Our neighborhood is so creative. Major kudos to the designer.
I've set up a personal fundraising page here on my.barackobama.com. For a donation of $10 or more I will create a personalized Obama logo for your city or group that can then be used to have t-shirts, buttons, etc. made via Zazzle, Cafe Press or your local vendors.
You can see an example on my fundraising page or here.
I look forward to creating some fun personalized logos in support of Senator Obama.

Hope 4 Obama, Events Coordinator is right. This is fun, especially with a little help from some other software:
Here's my youngest stepson, from a production of The Lorax:
When the Declaration of Independent was written, the gentlemen involved did not underestimate their endeavor. They knew that many of them would not survive this stand. Indeed during the Revolutionary War, those that signed the document were especially targeted by the English. Their homes destroyed and if they or their families survived they were separated by the four winds and in many cases never saw each other again.
Still, some moments of hope were recorded. Once the signing was complete, Franklin stood and commented on a painting in the room. It showed a brilliant sun on the horizon. He said he'd often pondered whether it was a painting of a sunrise or a sunset.... he was now sure it was of a sunrise.
I've felt similarly looking at the 'embossed' logo on these webpages, the one with the Obama logo as the sun in a field and the eagle above. I've wondered if the eagle was landing or just taking to flight.
Perahps I've been slow to come to this understanding, some might say they've known that eagle was taking to flight since the keynote of 2004 or since February 2007. For my part, I am sure of it now, that eagle is taking to flight again. There is still hope that the USA can be the country the founding fathers intended.
We have just started working up some Obama stencils - first one: http://www.4starbiz.com/obama/ObamaStencils.doc
1. print out on heavy card stock (or go to step 1a)
... 1a. print out on paper, glue to heavy card stock or cardboard

For anyone looking for a higher resolution version of the Obama '08 logo, I thought I would share what I found while scouring the web.
Although I've been unable to find this version of the logo in a vector format (which would look flawless at any size), I was able to find the following fairly high resolution PNG version:
(If someone knows of an SVG or other vector format version, please let me know)
2700 x 690 px
Also, be sure to check out our growing collection of signs, wallpapers, etc. at obamamedia.wordpress.com.

All through the weekend since Thursday, visitors to the site here have been asked to “Sound Off” and place a vote for the candidate they’re most behind. Which could mean both who they thought performed well during the VisibleVote08 Presidential Forum on Thursday night (which you can watch again tonight at 9pm ET, if you missed it), and just who they support the most in general. And the results may surprise you… As of 1:50pm today, here are the numbers:
WHO’S YOUR CANDIDATE?
Barack Obama 45%
Dennis Kucinich 25%
Hillary Clinton 14%
Mike Gravel 8%
John Edwards 5%
Bill Richardson 3%
Surprised? Obviously, Obama inspires and comes off amazingly well. And people respond to him as a maverick and a fresh voice. But is it surprising that he fares so much better than his biggest rival, Hillary Clinton? And would you have expected higher numbers for her? Kucinich and Gravel benefitted from their warmly received, pro-gay performance on Thursday, but it’s hard to know whether Kucinich’s vast jump in the rankings here (he sort of trounced Clinton) translates to any real boost for him.
More so, it demonstrates how enthusiastically gay voters respond to a candidate who embraces them and vows to fight for them. And it looks like neither John Edwards nor Bill Richardson won themselves much of a gay boost in support… But might that change?

It seems right to me with how Barack wants to repeal DOMA and has since 1996. Why clinton won't do this is beyond me. Or Edwards for that matter. Also barack has a forum on his site which is open to discussion whereas the others don't
