If it is true that the Obama team is, in fact, impeding the investigation of the infamous lost emails, those beginning from the day Bush announced that whoever was responsible for the leak that outed CIA agent Plame would be held accountable, I have to wonder why. Is it that in order to run for president, Obama had to agree to this as a condition? I personally do NOT wish to believe that, and even the thought that it MIGHT be true is in itself somewhat depressing.
I believe that it is absolutely CRITICAL that such investigations into past criminal misconduct on the part of high government officials be allowed to proceed unimpeded, if not outright encouraged. I believe that there should NOT be any deal made with Rove that would allow him to escape a clear and self-evident need to hear his testimony under oath regarding Siegelman and whatever other key issues in which he was potentially involved. How can we allow such precedents, such blatant lack of answerability to the law and the consititution, without doing permanent damage to our country in the eyes of the world as well as to the domestic credibility of our highest offices?
I urge all who supported Obama in any way to add your voices to this plea for CONCRETE STEPS that demonstrate a genuine commitment to governmental accountability to our citizens, past, present, and future. Such steps cannot sincerely include posing obstacles of any kind to due process of the law in exposing past governmental wrongdoing.

Looks like the Rethuglicans planted people in ACORN voter registration groups who would do bogus registrations, then turned them in. Then called for an investigation into ACORN. This to dovetail with McCain’s bogus claim that ACORN pressured banks to give home loans to people who were not qualified. But here’s some bottom lines to this story:ACORN has themselves identified to voter registration officials any bogus applications to register that they found. They are required to turn ALL of them in (good or not), but they went to the trouble to help registration officials identify bogus registrations. It’s the registration officials who have to accept or reject the registration application.Ultimately the person who filled out and turned in the bogus registrations has responsibility, not ACORNFinally, this is not about voting, it’s about voter registrations. Vote fraud occurs when someone actually shows up to vote on an improper registration. I saw a clip on MSNBC this morning of Palin saying that she is happy that she was found not guilty of legal or ethical violations. What report is she reading? The actual report finds her guilty of abusing the public trust, which is an ethical violation. Someone needs to make sure that swing voters don't buy her revisionist interpretation of the Commission's findings.

It becomes more apparent by the day that the choice of Sarah Palin may come to haunt the McCain campaign this November. It has now come to light that Moose-ah-lini used her private yahoo email account to conduct state business--flagrantly circumventing Alaska laws requiring all state-related correspondence to be archived and saved. And we recently learned that the self-titled pit-bull's private lawyers (or, more accurately, McCain's) are suing to stop the ethics inquiry she welcomed and the Republican-dominated, bipartisan Legislative Council unanimously decided in July to initiate. Talk about being before the investigation before she was against it. But of course all that was before Obama's choice of Biden and his subsequent convention bounce, and well before McCain realized he was absolutely fucked in November without someone or some way to get evangelicals excited about him--or at least some Republican. As it turns out, now that she's the Republican VP nominee, she'd rather have the investigation conducted on her turf by a "Personnel Board" answering only to her administration. Here's the best part: she filed an ethics complaint against herself--the only way to constitutionally get said Board to investigate--and her appointed, non-elected Attorney General instructed state employees not to cooperate with the Legislative Council supboenas. I guess her brand of government reform is ignoring it altogether when it proves politically inconvenient to her ambitions.
There's a very distinct possibility no laws were violated or ethics impinged, but I generally tend to think that where there's smoke there's a good chance of fire. The bottom line, of course, is McCain's glaring hypocrisy. How can he convince any lucid American he's going to "reform" Washington when he's running as a 25-year veteran of said institution whose running-mate is fleeing from her own ethics inquiry and doing whatever she can to shut it down?
McCain took a risk in picking such a political amateur, but he'll do well to stop her making more sophomoric mistakes so early. It does little good to run as an agent of change and government reform when your running mate agrees to cooperate with a bipartisan ethics investigation and then, six weeks later, does all she can to derail it. I hope Sarah's family enjoys moose-stew as much as she does because, frankly, that's about all she's qualified to nuke.
The McCain campaign was running ads that stated that Barack Obama is not experienced enough to answer the red phone at 3:00 in the morning. Well, the way their campaign has allowed Sarah Palin to take center stage as though she is the top of the ticket, will she have a rollaway bed placed in McCain's bedroom so she can answer the red phone at 3:00 in the morning? John McCain clearly picked this woman, with little or questionable experience, to get media attention and try to pitifully win over former Hillary Clinton supporters. I think that this was a desperate and petty move on his part. I don't believe that Hillary Clinton supporters are going to fall for this obvious farce. She has nothing even close to Hillary Clinton when it comes to experience or strength. How dare she get up there and let the George W. Bush speech writing team write her into a corner by making fun of Barack Obama's experience and record as a community organizer. How does she think grass roots began? This never done before grass roots success that his campaign has become is a result of his experience as a community organizer. Her remarks at the RNC were offensive, sarcastic, and totally useless in letting people know where their party stands on issues. How convenient because she had no new ideas to speak of. Women, Republicans, and undecided voters are supposed to be impressed because she can play the dozens, because she can hurl insults that she read from a teleprompter? The surrogates who are defending her can only point to the fact that she is a soccer mom, that she put a plane up for auction on Ebay, and that she was mayor of a small town. Oh, and lets not forget one of the most popular governor's in the United States. Big surprise, since most of the state is comprised of men looking at an ex-beauty queen. If I were these ladies, I would be very embarrassed to only have these attributes to speak of on national media outlets such as CNN. They talk as if they know her personally. I hope they don't end up eating crow for breakfast after Palin actually starts talking to the media and more information comes out on her. Remember, she is still under investigation. After awhile, McCain may start to wonder how much of a Maverick he truly was in picking her. He better hope that his party does not come up with new rules and make him the Vice Presidential nominee instead of the Presidential nominee! Now wouldn't that be something for the history books or in her case the she-story books!

he Alaska Legislature voted unanimously last month to investigate allegations that Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCain's running mate, may have abused her office in trying to pressure Walt Monegan, the state's public safety commissioner to fire her sister's ex-husband, an Alaska State Trooper. The Legislature has hired a former district attorney to investigate and have asked him to issue a report by October 31st. [1] Palin fired Monegan on July 11th.
Monegan, a respected former chief of the Anchorage Police Department, said in an interview with the Washington Post that despite initial statements to the contrary Palin and her husband had in fact contacted him repeatedly concerning the matter. Monegan says that he has emails from Palin that he plans to turn over to the prosecutor.
