A call to all Obama supporters.

if you could design Barack Obama's Lapel pin, what would it look like ?

we are starting a grass-roots effort to form the first Obama design competition.
this effort will focus on the lapel pin that Barack will wear as President of the United States.

design competition format:
1. Obama supporters will submit their designs by October 15th, 2008.
2. Obama supporters will vote for the top 10 design proposals.
3. Barack Obama will choose the winning design and wear the lapel pin as president.

The first step...

Here it is. The first step. My introduction.

A little back story...
Ive been probama since the beginning of the runoff's but have always loved some of Clinton's perspectives and I'm even a fan of the Fair Tax plan... so I'm kinda all over the place. I'd consider myself more of an independent over a Democrat... as I do like to look at issues as separate rather than following a party line. I'm agnostic and tend to always lean liberal in my viewpoints, yet as a person, I'm pretty conservative.

I was born in Dallas and raised in Arlington until I was 15 when my Mom was transferred with Kraft General Foods to Atlanta. I graduated high school here at Berkmar in Lilburn and lived here waiting tables at fine dining establishments such as Brasserie Le Coze and Cabernet. I moved back to Ft Worth to get through school at the Art Institute of Dallas. I've been working in the creative industry in Dallas since. I moved to Austin to be with my girlfriend and we're opening a hair salon, Kemestry, on 6th and Robert Martinez which should be open before the close of July. After we get that open and on it's feet, I'll probably be opening my agency... or jet setting the world... whichever happens first.

Throughout my life, I have come upon situations that pushed me to have the political and social viewpoints I now carry... and I will try to offer my perspectives here in the hopes that it adds to the catalog of information that is available here for people to read and walk away with some understanding.

Graphic at Action Center: Well-Meaning but wrong message?

Hello everyone -

I was just looking at the page http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/actioncenter/

and I noticed a graphic of a car with the Obama logo on the door.

While this graphic jazzes up the page, I'm afraid it sends the wrong message to some potential Obama voters. The car used in the graphic is a Toyota Prius, which has a well-deserved green reputation, but is made in Japan by a Japanese manufacturer. This could be really problematic for some voters.

May I suggest that the graphic be redone with a fuel-efficient but made-in-America car, such as the Ford Focus (made in Wayne, Michigan), Chevy Cobalt (made in Lordstown, Ohio), or any one of the Chrysler cars made in Belvidere, Illinois, which are the Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, and Dodge Caliber.

"O" Design 2/22/07

Consumer trends come and go. When you look back at decor, graphics, clothing, or designs in general that seemed appealing and cool 10 years ago, they now just look dated and out of touch. One huge trend in design right now is the circle. Circles represent infinity, protectiveness (think of encircling arms), and even the Earth. Many women I see wear a diamond circle on a chain around their necks. You see retro circle designs on everything from lithographs to home decor to wrapping paper: see some cool designs on this link: Link. This is why I think the graphics people for Senator Obama's campaign are right on the money. Using the O from his name to design his logo is both clever and creative. Consumers, in this case being voters, do attach themselves to logos and brands. I'm positve the O will 'stick' in people's minds: the logo, the first letter of his name, even the '08 is constructed with O's. And, as a side note, being a suburban woman, I can safely say that many women I know associate O with Oprah (not to mention the catchphrases "The Big O" and "It's all about the O") and that does nothing but good for Mr. O.
