When attempting to comment on the activities of a senator of a different state from mine, I found that the senator's website would not allow me to email the senator unless I gave an address and zip code in his congressional district.

I then called up the website for my senator and found that he would not accept emails from anyone that did not give an address in his state. His website said that he was restricted to emails from his state by the congressional email system.

This must be fixed and I asked him to work at fixing it.

These senators represent all of us. Not just their district, or state or party. They make decisions on war, the economy, foreign relations, the environment. Most of these decision effect all of the people in all of the 50 states.

Why don't all of the senators want to hear from all of the people?

I suggest we all contact our senators and representatives and insist that the congressional email system be fixed to be open to all of us, no matter where we live.

That it was the complete Testimony of Jesus Christ (The only Issue)

Ok, Now the literal Greek translation is: Happy is he who IS reading, and those hearing, the words of the Prophecy, and KEEPING the things written in it -- for the time is near Revelation 1:3

NO mention of the issues, SPECIFIC mention of the Prophecy

All the things in the Living Prayer text and the text below were occurring in Christ's and John's time or had already occurred when John was guided to write.

Now notice in the list above there is NO mention of the issues - Political-Social-Financial-Religious, only the Prophecy

Now we can do whatever we want, but when the time comes to say good and faithful servant, I think HE will as HE did before praise the servant who used the talents wisely and therefore was found obedient and righteous.

Good morning!! I hope all is well with you and your family.

I personally believe that we (the USA) got just what we deserved in the election...I also believe that God is taking His hand away from us..we have chosen to ignore Him, take Him away from the schools and homes. The saying "God bless America" is ridiculous because God has been blessing us, it is time we should turn that saying around and say "we the people of the US should bless God." Instead we elected a man that is 100% for abortion which is murder in God's eyes, 100% for same sex marriage, and is 100% for giving away the Land that God gave to Moses and the children of Israel. I am not saying that we had a choice at all on the election..we did not..both sides are not Christians. All we can do now is pray for them, that they will have their eyes open and come to the cross.

I pray that you and yours have a wonderful Christmas. I am going to be working at the Salvation Army.

I would absolutely love to go to Israel again with you..think about it.

Just two remarks: I thought it was the lost sheep we were going after whether they call themselves Pastor, President-Elect, Live Prayer, or christian; note: Mystery Babylon is made up of christians who knew of the bridegroom and bride Rev 18:23, who was called out of her; but became the many He did not recognize; as their garments were not correct, they were naked; they lacked knowledge and were perishing; not because of civil ,social or political issues but because they knew not the Son and the Father.

What will the author and LivePrayer committee and most christians say when the Prophet Daniel does the same kind of rant about those who have not studied his book as directed in Mathhew 24:15; the Bride cannot be without spot, with oil and in white garments without knowing and understanding these things according to Jesus, Daniel, Gabriel and the Apostle John.

BTW the first 4 paragraphs below seems to be very similar to what Warren is being accused of.

Rick Warren and President-elect Obama use each other for credibility. Let
me say up front, the ONLY reason Pastor Rick Warren, Senior Pastor of
Saddleback Church in suburban Los Angeles and the author of the Purpose
Driven Life, should deliver the invocation at Barack Hussein Obama's
inaugural is to pray for the following: Obama's salvation, that this nation
will stop slaughtering innocent babies, that ALL states will quit perverting
God's Holy Institution of Marriage by allowing same-sex couples to wed, and
that this nation will turn from its sins and back to the God of the Bible
and faith in Jesus Christ.

Now let's deal with reality. I guarantee you that Warren will pray for NONE
of those things. Do you think for a second that President-elect Obama would
invite him to do the invocation if he was going to pray for the REAL needs
of Obama and this nation? Warren became famous for selling his "Purpose
Driven" marketing strategy designed to fill pews with warn bodies, not
converts to the faith, to churches and pastors around the nation who were
too lazy to get their own vision from God. He has become the poster child
for the word COMPROMISE.

Let me deal right away with the outrage from the homosexual community over
Obama asking Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration. They are so
blinded by their sin that they don't realize Warren is the last person they
need to fear or worry about. Yes, I am well aware that Pastor Warren
supported Proposition 8. For the record, that only happened a few days
before the election after he was shamed and forced by those brave me and
women who championed that stand in California for God's Holy Institution of
Marriage.

Warren made national news during the recent Presidential election when he
hosted a debate between Senators Obama and McCain. The event was widely
promoted as a Warren/Saddleback event, however it was originated and
co-sponsored by the liberal social justice group Faith in Public Life, whose
board president is Meg Riley, a Unitarian Universalism minister who
previously ran the denomination's homosexual advocacy office. Warren also
spoke at one of Robert Schuller's Institute for Successful Church Leadership
conferences. In attendance at that Institute were 80 gay and lesbian
ministers from the now Jesus Metropolitan Churches which cater to
homosexuals and lesbians. Many of the clergy of these churches are
practicing, unrepentant homosexuals!

I do credit Warren for being consistent in his public comments (when
pressed) against the sin of homosexuality and that marriage is to be between
a man and a woman as God dictated. However, he takes ZERO leadership on key
spiritual issues like abortion or gay marriage, and is quick to join forces
with the homosexual community and those in the cults and false religions of
the world to advance his personal agenda. He was at a Muslim convention
this past weekend, where Melissa Ethridge, an openly lesbian activist and
music artist performed. Warren said the two had a "wonderful conversation"
and that he is a huge fan who has all her albums.

At that event, Warren told the Muslims, "You don't have to see eye to eye to
walk hand in hand." Listen, Rick Warren is a PASTOR. He is supposed to be
a messenger of the GOSPEL. He is NOT a politician!!! The Gospel of Jesus
Christ is not something you water down or compromise. It is not about being
politically correct because the eternal souls of men are at stake. There is
no "walking hand in hand" with Muslims! They are on the wide road to
destruction while born-again Believers are on that narrow road to Glory!
Muslims need to understand that they have bought a 1400-year-old lie from
hell, and when they die, their souls will burn in the flames of hell for all
eternity unless they turn from the lies of Islam and embrace faith in Jesus
Christ and the Truth of the Bible!!!

Warren is a case study in the word "compromise." He embraces the damnable
ecumenical movement that seeks to unite people of all beliefs, meaning
Christians are expected to "compromise" and abandon the Absolute Truth of
the Bible! His infamous book, The Purpose Driven Church, was endorsed by
Leonard Sweet, a firm New Age Movement advocate. Warren hired Ken Blanchard
to come to Saddleback to help train people how to be effective leaders.
Blanchard is a huge advocate of the New Age philosophies. He wrote the
foreword to Jim Ballard's books Mind Like Water and What Would Buddha Do At
Work? He was on the front cover of Corporate Mystic and the back cover of
Deepak Chopra's Seven Spiritual Laws of Success and wrote the Foreword to
Ellen Ladd's (clairvoyant) book, Death and Letting Go. Blanchard makes no
apology when he says much can be gained from Buddhism. He and his wife both
encourage the practice of yoga and mantra meditation.

Why does a self-professed Baptist evangelist associate with these types of
people? Not to preach the Gospel to them, but to use his association for
his benefit! Sadly Warren decided that he could make his impact by pursuing
a worldwide social agenda. That is fine. We need people to lead the effort
on global poverty, AIDS in Africa, and other social causes. But you can't
pursue this social agenda and ignore the pressing issues that are destroying
this nation like killing babies, gay marriage, and family issues. IT IS NOT
ACCEPTABLE AT ANY TIME TO COMPROMISE THE GOSPEL AND THE TRUTH OF THE BIBLE
IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH ANY PURSUIT, NO MATTER HOW WORTHY! While these
social issues are worth bringing attention to and fighting for, the fact is
all men will die one day and at that moment the only thing that matters is
if they know Jesus as their personal Savior by Faith.

I love you and care about you so much. It is easy to see why
President-elect Obama asked Warren to deliver the invocation at his
inauguration. It was payback for Warren compromising once again and
allowing this enemy of God to stand in his pulpit at a recent conference on
social issues. Actually, Warren desecrates his pulpit often with every kind
of heretic and blasphemer you can name in the pursuit of his global social
agenda. He even boasted about having Obama in his pulpit!

By accepting this invitation, all Warren has done is give credibility to
Obama, further proliferating the lie that he is a Christian, when the fact
is he takes stands in opposition to the Christ he proclaims and the Truth of
the Bible on EVERY key spiritual issue that faces our nation. By giving the
invocation at the upcoming inaugural, Rick Warren is giving his blessing to
Obama's rebellion to God and the Bible. Sadly, Warren's agenda is more
important than God's agenda! His appearance and compromise actually only
emboldens those who live in rebellion to God and His Word.

For Pastor Rick Warren to bless and give the invocation at the upcoming
inauguration of a man who will help insure millions of babies around the
world are slaughtered, and force US taxpayers to fund this legalized
infanticide, is no different than if Adolph Hitler had asked him to give the
blessing and invocation when he became Chancellor of Germany!!!

True men of God like John the Baptist, the prophets in the Old Testament,
literally gave their lives to stand for God's Truth with the political
leaders of their day. Sadly, Rick Warren is not a great man of God, but
simply a man who has compromised his faith and the message of the Gospel in
order to advance his agenda. I will be praying for Pastor Warren, and ask
you to as well, that he will let the Holy Sprit speak the words this coming
January 20th. I pray that out of his lips will come a prayer calling this
nation back to God, condemning this culture of death and all who support it,
proclaiming that God's plan in the Bible for marriage and family is the
foundation of our culture, and inviting President-elect Barack Hussein Obama
to ask God to forgive his sins and accept by faith Jesus Christ as His
personal Savior and lead this nation as a man of God, not an enemy of God!

THAT IS THE ONLY PRAYER A TRUE MAN OF GOD COULD POSSIBLY DELIVER!

STOP ASKING FOR MONEY!!

Hey, I'm real glad Barack Obama won and everything, I'm sure he is going to be a great president and he has my support, but would the campaign PLEASE STOP ASKING FOR MONEY EVERY FRIGGING DAY! You have already raised what I consider abhorrant amounts of money. How much more do you need??? Give it a break. It's annoying and might actually turn alot of people off. Please, get out of our faces and let us breath, for crying out loud! Thank you!

What to do w/ My.BarackObama.com now?

Team Obama is now deciding what to do with My.BarackObama.com. I urge the team to continue growing and developing the site, and to use it to support and advocate Obama's initiatives with Congress and America.

Though Congress is Democratically controlled, I can almost guarantee there will be disagreements b/t Obama and the House or Senate on some things. Frankly, I trust Obama's erudition, due dilligence, open mindedness, integrity, and judgement much more than that of Congress. When disagreements arise and push comes to shove, I am pretty sure I'll want Obama to win them.

Directed support and advocacy from his 10 million strong My.BarackObama.com users will in many cases be enough to swing Congress Obama's way. One extremely useful addition to the site would be automatic email/fax capability, where users can upload documents to fax to a list of Congressional office fax numbers, or send emails to congressional office email addresses. I've been using Metrofax.com for this regarding financial crisis issues. It works ok, but is limited to sending 50 faxes at a time, and it's contact list entry and import features are rudimentary at best.

In a nutshell, My.BarackObama.com team should focus on providing the tools Obama's supporters need to effectively, efficiently advocate Congress in support of his initiatives.

Republicans Trying to Inflame Racism in The Election

This is the text of an email that my husband received from my extremely right-wing father today (he has--at my request--stopped sending me this garbage). I think we all need to be aware of the hate that is being encouraged within the Republican Party. My father cannot think this stuff up, but he is more than happy to pass it around the internet. I suspect there are many, many more like him!

CAN MUSLIMS BE GOOD AMERICANS?

This is very interesting and we all need to read it from start to finish and send it on to anyone who will read it. Maybe this is why our American Muslims are so quiet and not speaking out about any atrocities.
Can a good Muslim be a good American? This question was forwarded to a friend who worked in Saudi Arabia for 20 years. The following is his reply:

Theologically - no. . . . Because his allegiance is To Allah, The moon God of Arabia

Religiously - no. . . Because no other religion is Accepted by His Allah except Islam (Quran, 2:256) (Koran)

Scripturally - no. . . Because his allegiance is to The five Pillars of Islam and the Quran.

Geographically - no . Because his allegiance is to Mecca , to which he turns in prayer five times a day.

Socially - no. . . Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make friends with Christians or Jews ..

Politically - no. . . Because he must submit to the Mullahs (spiritual leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America , the great Satan.

Domestically - no. . . Because he is instructed to marry four women and beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him (Quran 4:34)

Intellectually - no. . Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical Principles and he believes the Bible to be corrupt.

Philosophically - no. . . Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran does not allow freedom of religion and expression. Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist.
Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.

Spiritually - no. . . Because when we declare 'one nation under God,' the Christian's God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as Heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in The Quran's 99 excellent names.

Therefore, after much study and deliberation....

Perhaps we should be very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS In this country. - - - They obviously cannot be both 'good' Muslims and good Americans.

Call it what you wish it's still the truth. You had better believe it. The more who understand this, the better it will be for our country and our future. The Religious war is bigger than we know or understand. .. ....

And Barack Hussein Obama, a Muslim, wants to be our President? You have GOT to be kidding! Wake up America !

Obama even says if he wins the election, he will be sworn in on the Quran---not a Bible!

Footnote: He was sworn in on the Quran for his current office and he refuses to pledge allegiance to the United States or put his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is played!

Palin Must Save Her Yahoo E-Mails, Judge Rules

An Anchorage judge has ordered Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to preserve e-mails from private accounts she has used to conduct state business.

Superior Court Judge Craig Stowers on Friday also ordered Alaska's attorney general to recover messages from a Yahoo.com account of Palin's that was breached by hackers last month. That break-in prompted Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign to order closed at least one additional private account Palin maintained.
The judge issued the orders at the request of Andree McLeod, an Anchorage activist whose pursuit of Palin's e-mails revealed that the governor did considerable state business from a Yahoo e-mail address -- an arrangement that avoided the safeguards and accountability of the state's secure e-mail system.
Last month a second Yahoo account maintained by Palin was hacked and images of its inbox were posted publicly online. The inbox included e-mails with subject lines that seemed clearly to relate to legislation.
A Tennessee man was indicted Thursday on charges of illegally resetting Palin's password and posting several pages from gov.palin@yahoo.com.
Yet another private address outside the Yahoo system came to light earlier this month, when The Washington Post reported that Palin, her husband and close aides established last spring e-mail accounts that were apparently known only to one another. The accounts were nested within an Internet domain maintained by a Wasilla computer company. The company and the McCain campaign confirmed the existence of the accounts, although it was denied by Frank Bailey, the Palin aide who company officials said set up the accounts and had the authority to administer them.
The McCain campaign ordered those e-mail accounts for Palin and her husband frozen after the Yahoo hacking became known. The Yahoo breach also affected the functioning of state government.
"Until she was hacked, we were communicating just about daily," Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell told the Associated Press the following week. "Now I'm talking with her chief of staff."
Judge Stowers called the effort to recover and preserve Palin e-mails relating to state business "important" and noted that Alaska's public record law was last updated before the rise of the Internet.
"On one hand, I'm pleased that the judge saw fit to order the retrieval and preservation of these e-mails, to the extent of going to the providers to get them," said McLeod, a Republican who was formerly close to Palin. "But on the other hand, I'm amazed that I even have to go to court to get the governor to comply with Alaska's public record laws."

McLeod is also seeking the release by Palin of some 1,100 e-mails the governor held back from an earlier public records request, citing executive privilege. McLeod's lawyer asserts that Palin waived that privilege by routinely copying messages to her husband, Todd, who is not a state employee.

My email to friends and family

I put together the following email for my friends and family who are undecided about who they want for president, so I thought I'd post it here in case it inspires anyone else to do the same. Since I've been so passionately for Obama these past months I made the email as objective as possible so they'd actually listen to what I said. I've included McCain's political positions as well as Obama's on the three most important issues to me this election: Economy, Health Care, and Education. I passionately believe that once the noise from the spin machines and the mud throwing is cleared away, the policies of Barack Obama speak for themselves, and are very clearly the change that America needs to return to what we once were. Join with me in talking to your undecided friends and family members. Speak out as one voice advocating change!

I have it on good authority that this election is all about me. The candidates have spared no effort to assure me that they are leaving no stone unturned in their crusade to see that I have a chicken in my pot, a car in my garage, a workable mortgage, retirement benefits, healthcare coverage, and a hefty college fund for my son.

John McPain can't use a computer. He admits it. He says he has to get his wife to help him write an email. MY FOUR YEAR OLD NEICE CAN WRITE EMAIL!!!!

I want a leader that understands technology. Why? Because the challenges that this country will face in the next 8 years will be solved by technology. A president that can't even get on the internet scares the bejezus out of me! How am I supposed to believe that this guy can solve a global financial crisis if he can't even learn to send an email??? And what's worse, is that he doesn't even see this as a priority to go and learn how! This speaks volumes to me and says that McPain doesn't understand how computers have integrated themselves into the very foundations of our lives. He doesn't get it, at all!!! We have moved past the Industrial Revolution. We've moved into the Information age, well... almost all of us. McPain is still living in 1970's Hanoi.

Here is the email I just received from the McCain-Palin campaign:

I love the truly misleading portion that says: "The Obama-Biden campaign has hired hundreds of paid staff and is spending millions of dollars bombarding undecided voters with advertisements filled with negative, misleading and false information about John McCain and Governor Palin. We need your help to combat this and get the truth out to these voters. It's more of teh shameful tactics that the McCain-Palin ticket has been employing through this campaign cycle."

Actually, the Obama campaign has thousands of people just like you and me dedicating their evenings to phone banks, dedicating their Saturdays and Sundays to canvassing. In Boston alone, hundreds of people are hosting phone banks in their own homes -- all you have to bring is your cell phone. People are hosting debate watching parties and charging a $5 or $10 entry fee to raise money for the campaign. People are carpooling from as far as RI to go canvass in NH on the weekends. People are creating websites on http://www.mybarackobama.com, setting up their own fundraising pages, joining local groups and writing and maintaining blogs. So, no, McCain-Palin -- Obama hasn't "hired hundreds of paid staff" to "bombard undecided voters," he's created a platform where us regular folks, us "community organizers," are reaching out to undecided voters to tell them the truth about this campaign when emails like this one go out to unsuspecting Americans that might get fooled by your shameful tactics and misleading info. Funnily enough, the McCain-Palin campaign is now trying to mislead people into becoming "community organizers" for them despite Palin mocking us "community organizers" in her speech. Well, we'll just add this to another instance of flip-flopping on the issues.

Palin's Fundraising Email Misleads Americans

It seems that now that the economy is at the forefront and McCain is, as a result, slipping at the polls, the McCain-Palin ticket has resorted to more of the same tactics that they have relied on this entire campaign season.

In a fundraising email sent out by Palin, she writes: “Friends, in the course of a few weeks, the Obama-Biden Democrats have launched attack after attack on me, my family and John McCain. They’re desperate to win and they’ll no doubt launch these attacks against other reformers on our ticket.” (CNN, Sept. 22, 2008)

She continued, stating that the Obama-Biden ticket has a “large financial advantage” and urged supporters that a contribution of any size would help them stop the spread of “lies” and “misinformation” by the Democrats. Palin urged, “We must stop them…before they turn these shameful tactics on others we support.” (CNN, Sept. 22, 2008)

This email sent out by Palin, is in and of itself, a “lie” “misinforming” the American people in order to squeeze more fundraising dollars out of them. At a time when our economy is in crisis and the average American family is pinching every penny just to buy gas and groceries, Palin is misinforming everyone in hopes of getting an additional campaign contribution. Now, that is truly a “shameful tactic” if I’ve ever seen one.

The Obama campaign has made no deceitful or slanderous attack on Palin or her family. When asked about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy earlier this month, Obama repeated again and again that “people’s families are off-limits.” (Watch the video here) Obama said, “This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to show Governor Palin’s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president.” That doesn’t sound like the “attack after attack” that Palin is describing in her email. (CNN, Sept. 22, 2008)

Has the Obama campaign let America know about Palin’s lack of foreign policy, national security, and economic experience? Yes. But that is not “lies” or “misinformation;” that is the truth even if it does make the McCain-Palin ticket less attractive to Americans, especially given our recent economic collapse and the looming foreign policy/national security threats with Iran, Russia and Pakistan.

It seems that the McCain-Palin ticket is afraid of Obama’s large financial advantage; a financial advantage gained by community organizers working diligently to raise donations as small as $5 from millions of Americans. Looks like that “community organizing” that Palin mocked in her acceptance speech is coming back to bite the GOP ticket. Sadly, it’s also coming back to bite any Americans that contribute to the McCain-Palin campaign because they think even a smidgen of this email is true.

Fighting the Smears, One Email at a Time

Does this happen to you?

(Has anyone read this blog? Ever? I think I hear crickets!)

I have this friend - well, more of an acquaintance, really, but at least a borderline friend. (Put it this way: she's got my last name wrong in her address book.) We met at work, before the company we both worked for collapsed in the mortgage crisis. She's the sort of person who likes to forward the Joke of the Day, chain letters involving prayers or pictures of flowers or kitties, virtual hugs - you know the drill.

And political claptrap.

Most of the rumors on the Fight the Smears page, I recognize from F.'s email forwards. She's also sent a few that haven't even hit Snopes, let alone the Smears page. One or two of the major smears she's sent on more than once, even after I sent her back the debunking, with the link to the relevant Snopes page. It's as if she accepts forwards completely uncritically and passes them on, but ignores what is said firsthand by someone she actually knows. Or maybe she accepts whatever fits the worldview that has somehow been inculcated in her, and ignores whatever doesn't.

For over a year I've been deleting most of F.'s forwards unread, the jokes and virtual hugs and cutesy graphics. I don't want to offend her and hurt her feelings by asking her to stop sending them. It's only the ones whose subject headers seem to indicate allegedly factual content that I even bother to open. If indeed an email contains some kind of wild claim(s), I then Snopes the darn thing and send back the result, along with a plea that she think about what she's reading and do at least minimal research before she forwards this junk. (I do this with any factually challenged email forward, no matter who sends it.)

I never, ever see a forwarded retraction. I almost never hear back at all. All I get is mailer daemons from a few addresses if I dare to "reply all."

And now I see that there are right-wing rumblings accusing Snopes of pro-Obama bias. Funnily enough, I've also heard at least one person bitterly accuse Snopes of right-wing bias.

A week or two ago, I took my Snopes-based reply tactic a step further. Rather than burden the other recipients of one of these junk emails (this one implied that Obama was the Antichrist), I sent my debunk and my plea for critical thinking to every person listed in the subject headers as having actually forwarded the thing, as far back as the headers went. I think there were literally six degrees of separation between me and the first sender listed. At least I would be reaching some of the people who were actually spreading the lies around, even if they didn't heed me. As usual, there was no reply. Except...about a week later, I got an email directly from (I think) the first person listed on the older forward, linking to an alleged (and of course totally bogus) Obama sex video. This is actually a virus, so presumably this Obama hater now has an infected computer, unless of course she acted on my email warning her of this. Schadenfreude, anyone?

Yesterday, F. sent me two new email forwards. One was a relatively sane but logically flawed attack on Obama as an employer. The other tried to blame all our economic woes on those darn immigrants.

"Fwd: FW: Obama practices gender pay inequity in his Senate Office" uses carefully documented but misleadingly applied statistics to "prove" that Senator Obama as an employer doesn't practice what he preaches on equal pay for equal work, using the fact that many of his top advisers are male to show gender inequity. This leaves out the "for equal work" part of the equation, folks. If a President McCain made more than a VP Palin (and let's make sure this never happens), would that be gender inequity? Heck, no. That would be a pay scale based on the job positions, not on who fills them.

Similarly, if you have, let's say, seven top-paid advisers and only three of them are women, that proves you're a sexist hypocrite, right? Um, actually, no. Nothing short of a strict quota system would ensure that at least 50% of employees at every pay level lack a Y chromosome, regardless of other qualifications. Otherwise, there will always be the possibility that the right person for a given executive job might actually be a man, in more than half of the cases. This is especially true in a relatively small staff, where there aren't hundreds or thousands of employees to make the sample statistically significant, and even out probability. McCain's laudable record on pay scales among his staff shows that he doesn't exclude women from consideration for top posts, and that's a good thing. But his numbers are no more statistically significant than Obama's, and do not prove superiority in his policy or practices toward equal pay for equal work.

The sane and reasonable alternative to strict quotas that ignore qualifications is to choose the best person for the job regardless of gender, and not adjust the salary based on whether the successful candidate is male or female. And if Mr. Jones and Ms. Smith are both hired on a given date to answer phones or screw in a light bulb, they should earn the same wage, and get raises based on identical criteria. That's what "equal pay for equal work" means. Give equally-qualified women and men the same shot at the same job for the same pay, whether as CEO or dogcatcher, and watch the glass ceiling shatter.

The other recent email tries to prove that "$ 338.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR" is spent on illegal aliens in this country, directly or indirectly, based on benefits, education, law enforcement, remittances to other countries and ill-defined lost wages for Americans; and that these costs, not Iraq or Wall Street, outsourcing or the mortgage meltdown, are "what's bankrupting us." I passed that one on to Snopes, because they have nothing like it yet. My gut reaction is that most of the statistics are likely to be news reports featuring people who spout distorted or made-up numbers. Also, it's a logical fallacy to say that if A is a drain on the economy, the unrelated factors B and C must be irrelevant to it, particularly if you don't research B and C's numbers.

This weekend, I decided to risk F.'s annoyance with a new tactic. I sent her an email forward of my own:

Hey F. --

Instead of just forwarding anti-Obama emails that try to scare people on the basis of ethnicity and logical fallacies, creative use of statistics or outright lies, none of which have anything to do with the issues, why not listen to what he actually has to say about the most important issues?

I would love it if Kansas could actually go BLUE this year, we have been a strong red state forever. In fact several of my sisters never vote because they always say it doesn't matter, the Republicans always take Kansas - and the records sure show that. Sick of seeing the news already showing Ks a red state before one vote is cast, makes you feel like your vote doesn't even count. Anyway, you never know - I would love to see an upset like that! Enough with Lipstick and Dipstick

It becomes more apparent by the day that the choice of Sarah Palin may come to haunt the McCain campaign this November. It has now come to light that Moose-ah-lini used her private yahoo email account to conduct state business--flagrantly circumventing Alaska laws requiring all state-related correspondence to be archived and saved. And we recently learned that the self-titled pit-bull's private lawyers (or, more accurately, McCain's) are suing to stop the ethics inquiry she welcomed and the Republican-dominated, bipartisan Legislative Council unanimously decided in July to initiate. Talk about being before the investigation before she was against it.

But of course all that was before Obama's choice of Biden and his subsequent convention bounce, and well before McCain realized he was absolutely fucked in November without someone or some way to get evangelicals excited about him--or at least some Republican. As it turns out, now that she's the Republican VP nominee, she'd rather have the investigation conducted on her turf by a "Personnel Board" answering only to her administration. Here's the best part: she filed an ethics complaint against herself--the only way to constitutionally get said Board to investigate--and her appointed, non-elected Attorney General instructed state employees not to cooperate with the Legislative Council supboenas. I guess her brand of government reform is ignoring it altogether when it proves politically inconvenient to her ambitions.

There's a very distinct possibility no laws were violated or ethics impinged, but I generally tend to think that where there's smoke there's a good chance of fire. The bottom line, of course, is McCain's glaring hypocrisy. How can he convince any lucid American he's going to "reform" Washington when he's running as a 25-year veteran of said institution whose running-mate is fleeing from her own ethics inquiry and doing whatever she can to shut it down?

McCain took a risk in picking such a political amateur, but he'll do well to stop her making more sophomoric mistakes so early. It does little good to run as an agent of change and government reform when your running mate agrees to cooperate with a bipartisan ethics investigation and then, six weeks later, does all she can to derail it.

I hope Sarah's family enjoys moose-stew as much as she does because, frankly, that's about all she's qualified to nuke.

If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic, different.'
Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
Name your kids Bristol, Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council, and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, _then_ you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.
If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other ption in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're _very_ responsible.
If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

If your husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

Simple Math

My wife received an email from one of her republican family members last week. In it there were several “issues” comparing McCain with Obama. The list was was titled “Simple Math” which is kind of funny all things considered. Most of the list is simply political differences in what stodgy conservative republicans think is important versus what Democrats think is important. Ya know issues like freedom to choose and health care – issues the stodgy conservative republicans hate.
