A group of scientists, engineers and other concerned citizens have formed Science Debate 2008 to ensure that important science topics are dealt with in the 2008 Campaign. One of the fourteen questions submitted to the candidates was regarding water scarcity.

As water shortages in developing countries become more acute due to climate change, the EU is backing policies to manage the demands of all sectors, prioritising health, sanitation and cooperation between states.

A Water Strategy for the United States

Today, the World is faced with a serious water crisis. It’s urgent that a multidimensional strategy be implemented by the United States in order to confront this emergency. Such a strategy would be important not only from a moral perspective but it would also have significant international security ramifications, and it would enhance the image of the United States throughout the world. It’s critical that this country set an example on how to solve the crisis, solutions which will require decisive action both internationally and throughout the United States.
When it comes to water, the planet is in serious trouble. Currently 1.2 billion people don’t have access to clean drinking water and twice that many don’t have access to sanitation. Every year 1.8 million people die from diseases caused by water pollution and the vast majority of these are children.
West Bank taps run dry due to drought and Israeli controls

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Taps have run dry in West Bank towns and Palestinians face acute water shortages as dry weather strains supplies already restricted by Israel, residents and the water authority said.
Parts of major West Bank cities such as Jenin, Hebron and Bethlehem have had no running water for about a month and even faucets in parts of Ramallah, the occupied West Bank's political hub which rarely experiences cuts, have been dry for days at a time in recent weeks, residents said.......
