Elizabeth Kim is a volunteer in Nevada.
Why is Nevada so important? Al Gore lost Nevada by 2% in 2000. If Nevada had turned, Gore would have won the election. The good news is that in previous cycles Democrats had a net negative of 8,000 registered voters in Nevada compared to Republicans. We now have a positive advantage of 75,000 registered Democrats over Republicans thanks to the hard work of our volunteers.

On Saturday September 27th, I decided to leave a little early from Lakeland Farmers and Flea Market to attend the Obama Rally and Voter Registration Drive at Lake Bonny Park in Lakeland Florida where Forest Whitaker was the celebrity guest speaker. In addition to displaying Obama flyers on the issues and providing useful information regarding early voting etc for local residents, I have been doing fundraising for Obama for America on saturdays at the market by requesting donations for my crocheted Obama hats, caps and other handmade creations.
Last Saturday September 20th, I also decided to leave the market a little earlier than normal and teamed up with another person to do three hours of door to door canvassing of unregistered voters in Lakeland. That allowed me to reach another group of people in another proactive way.
Similarly, attending the Obama Rally and Voter Registration Drive also gave me the opportunity to reach another segment of the population. By attending this event I was able to observe a younger and energetic crowd! The weather was beautiful and the youths were fired up. They were very enthusiastic!
Before heading to the stage where he made a significant but brief speech, Forest Whitaker stopped by the table where I had some of my handmade crocheted Obama hats and caps displayed. He commented that he liked them and had not seen any other hats or caps like those elsewhere. In a quick response, I mentioned that they are my own creations and I do them for fundraising for Obama for America. After leaving the rally, a young man who came to the event and was walking alongside Mr Whitaker in the entourage returned from the parking lot to the table and stated Forest Whitaker wanted to purchase one of the hats, but did not have time to do so earlier. I did not have any large sizes left, so the young man picked a small medium size crocheted Obama cap for Forest Whitaker.
I tip my hat to Forest Whitaker for all his great accomplishments on and off screen and for taking the time out to speak to the youths. They are the future.
Below is a link to an article from the Lakeland Ledger about the event. It is encouraging to see young people are interested and involved in this campaign.

I have asked the President of the Teamsters, NPR Radio and personaldemocracy.com to announce this "Call to Drive" for Barack Obama. Please send this to anyone who can get the word out.
We know the pain and power of the unions. Gas and the overall economy have created a disaster in America. I am calling on the Teamsters' who have had enough of the pain, to show their power.
Any truckers' in the Washington DC area on September 30, 2008, place an Obama sign on your truck and drive by the Whitehouse. Let them know, Barack Obama is coming! Please show your support.
Also, we will be at the Art Walk tomorrow, etc...

(The following post is a mixture of serious truth and comic reality, and not meant to offend drivers from any coasts in the U.S.)
So I got a new car recently - yay! - and I wanted to celebrate it with an Obama bumper sticker. (There was no way I was going to put a bumper sticker on my old car; that would've been a disservice to Barack.)
One concern I had about putting an Obama sticker - or any identifying symbol - on my car is that the last thing I'd want is for it to reflect negatively on said person/organization/school, etc. In this case, I wouldn't want my driving to negatively influence people away from Barack.
Ouch. That's painful that I even need to say that. So let me clarify a little. I live in CA, where in general, people drive... like Californians. For example, people always say how crazy San Francisco drivers are, but any time I've driven in San Francisco, while not overly sane, the drivers definitely weren't overwhelmingly nuts. I went to college on the East Coast, and drivers were much more... hmm... Let's just say that although I'm back on the West Coast, I still drive like the typical East Coast drivers with whom I was in contact. It works well out there (when in Rome, drive like the Romans), but I think CA drivers often think I'm an aggressive driver.
Like I said, I don't want it to reflect negatively on Barack because some crazy female is driving aggressively and what some might consider erratically. So I'm making huge efforts to be as considerate, as conscientious, as "California normal" as possible. I want people to drive near me and say, "Oh, that's a competent driver. And she supports Obama," and have positive Obama feelings, rather than, "You crazy moron! Yeah, drive off with your stupid Obama sticker. If that's the type of people he attracts, I certainly won't vote for him."
In this land of "guilt by association", I don't want my driving/attitude/etc. to negative affect this incredibly awesome candidate that I'm supporting.
Which means I'm going to keep driving with "California common sense" - at least, as long as my Obama sticker is on my car!
:)
I have been trying to find an Official Obama canvassing event within 150 - 175 mi of Ann Arbor. I have not been successful in my search so far.
If 2-3 people are interested in traveling to Indiana this weekend, I am willing to drive (leaving from Ann Arbor, MI).
If you can locate an Official Obama event and are interested in carpooling please let me know. I stress "official" because in the event that we decide to stay overnight (May 5th), the Obama organizers can assist with housing search.

As we all know, this is a very important primary. Let's get on our feet and knock on some doors!
I hope to hear from some fellow Michiganders soon!
"The moral question about poverty in America - How can a country like this allow it? - has an easy answer: we can't. The political question that follows - What do we do about it? - has always been more difficult. But now that we're finally seeing the beginnings of an answer, this country has an obligation to keep trying." -- Barack Obama, Washington, DC | July 18, 2007
Yes We Can! (and No We Won't!)
Who? YOU
When? Right Now
What? National Obamafolk Against Hunger Food Drive
Where? Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Food Bank
Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank1 N Linden Street, Duquesne, PA 15110http://www.pittsburghfoodbank.org/
Why? Our message of Hope, Change and Yes, We Can! has been hijacked and we need to take it back. Our Hope is our better future. Our better future comes through Change. We can only have Change if we resurrect the spirit of Yes, We Can!
Yes, We Did! In Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, BOTH Washingtons and Wisconsin.Yes, We Can in Pennsylvania!
So, to take back our message and positively impact the future of our campaign, we are showing Pennsylvanians who we REALLY are by driving the fight against hunger at the grassroots level. This food bank is the state's second largest, serving 11 counties and distributing more than 18 million pounds of food each year. While Pittsburgh's Allegheny County has a population of over 1.2 million, the agency's remaining 10 counties average less than 125,000. Four of its service counties are 90% or more rural, with five more predominantly rural.
If you'd prefer to make a donation rather than send nonperishables, the food bank website features "tribute" donations through a checkbox at the bottom of the page just below "Do you have any additional requests for your contribution?" At the "Next Step," you may enter your choice of Gift (Tribute) and Person being honored (Suggestion: Obama supporters against Hunger and Poverty)
The attached list of items are badly needed at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Items the Pittsburgh Food bank needs
(If you are in the Philadelphia area, please contact Chandrima Chatterjee (chandrima@mac.com) who is gearing up a parallel food drive supporting Philabundance, the state's largest food bank.)
CHALLENGE: CAN THE ONLINE DRIVE BEAT THE ONE ON THE GROUND IN PHILLY? We will post results here as they come in, so let us know your progress out there! Yes We Can!
"READ MORE>>" For packing and shipping instructions.
We are starting to roll! Some of you have already answered this call but there we need EVERYONE's help. We need a movement of giant proportions.
A critical Big State vote is coming up in a few weeks. Some of us Obama supporters decided to help our candidate get part of his message out and do it in a big way. Now that we have supported Obama in raising individual donations, we need to reach out for the hearts of our fellow Pennsylvanians who are critical to this election. So some of us have started at the grassroots level and are putting into action something our candidate espouses -- fighting poverty. We are organizing a drive for food and clothing to help some of the poorest folks in Appalachian Pennsylvania and West Virginia in collaboration with some of the local anti-poverty organizations in the region.
I know we have just a few weeks to put this together, but what a powerful statement it would be. This would do three things for us:
I think we could quietly put Obama over the top with some real altruism and heartfelt outpouring. I know this is short notice, but we've started checking things out and believe we can get this done. Will you join us? If interested, please reply to this post or email me at mksbiz(at)satx.rr.com.
I'm FIRED UP! READY TO GO! PLEASE pass this on
