Hello Everyone, This is for real this is not a joke. I received a decision letter from The Social Security Administration tonight that as of July 23, 2009 coincidently that was my birthday that I was no longer entitled to social security disability benefits. Those of you that personally know me know what I have been going through since they stopped my benefits earlier and how my health got worse. You that know me, know how much my work means to me and how hard I work to provide the service that I perform for you guys even though I am Impaired with my disability, I am not able to obtain a normal job due to my disabilities.
Again those of you that personally know me,know that I am not able to obtain a regular salaried or hourly job due to my medical disablities and therefore I am asking for immediate and Extremely Urgent help tonight. You all know me to be an honest person. Therefore I am in great need for immediate donations. Here is my problem again let me explain this email is really from me. Tom Rodgers, As I sit here at my office in Cusseta tonight am I wondering where do I go from here. I have worked so hard to continue to provide services to all of you at the lowest possible prices.. As most of you are aware of I use my disability Income to provide this services to you which I enjoy doing very much it is my life and I Love being able to provide assistance and services to all of you. There is a great need for me in the local area and also a great need for me to be able to operate the website. Not to mention a personal need for me to be able to survive as a human being and to be able to live. T&C Services is what I live for. Well tonight I do not even know if I will receive my Monthly Social Security Deposit Monday August 3, 2009. Therefore I am asking you First to pray for me when you see this email. Second if you have any amount that you can donate please click the PayPal link I will provide in this email or go to my website http://tomrodgers723.community.officelive.com and click the donate button found on the first 6 or so pages under mission statement. Please remember that I am serious and not joking I would not send this type of email to you.
I have accomplised a great deal this past seven months by turning T&C Services into a Charitable Community Services with being approved by The State of Georgia Secretary of State as a Registered Charitable Organization, while continually to work on achieving Federal 501(C)(3) Tax Exempt Status. This is in doubt at this moment but I do have Faith and Hope and I will not give up on this as long as I have a last breath. Just a little disclaimer and some more info about us here...
First, if you think, looking at the picture of me and my horse, that I don't look disabled, think again. That picture is nearly 10 years old, and if you look closely, I was wearing a back brace then. Since then I have had 3 cervical discs replaced with "spacers" (the FDA has not yet approved the actual disc replacements yet - see the next paren), and been diagnosed with 5 herniated lumbar discs (awaiting FDA approval of surgical techniques successfully used in Europe for years), emphysema, arthritis and a myriad of other health problems, including a TBI (traumatic brain injury) that affects my cognitive abilities.
My poor old horse ain't gettin' any younger, either. He was mildly foundered years ago, and has an arthritic shoulder from a fall we took. The last time I was on his back was to ride him to the polls, fully tricked out in banners and flags for our candidate, on Election Day 2006 to vote for Texas Governor. The 5 mile round trip was about all either of us could manage. Both our tails were dragging by the time we got home - but we made our statement!
Second, I am not noted for my tact nor my political correctness. Just to support that statement, I'll say that Jack Nicholson and Bill Mayer are two of my favorite celebrities. That should tell you something! So, if you're easily offended, you can leave - don't go away mad, just go away. Don't complain; I do enough of that all by myself!
On the other hand, if you're serious about helping elders and disabled persons obtain better living conditions, then you'll just have to overlook my abrasive personality, and look at the beauty of this plan. Yes, of course, this is a self-serving enterprise, but if I can help myself AND help others at the same time, I can die peacefully, knowing I have left a legacy of good.
Http://savingtails.blogspot.com only outlines the PAL Community; I have published more details of the plan in other places, but I'll be darned if I can remember where ... I guess I'll have to re-write it. (A mind is a terrible thing to lose.)
Finally, I am in serious need of organizational help for this project! If you have the skills and/or funds necessary to help us obtain 501c3 status, funding, grant writing, advertsing, lobbying, or just want to help by being a supporter, please join my team in groups, blogs, causes, or wherever you find me. I may post on Facebook (see Critter Link), MySpace, Twitter, and wherever else I am.. Meanwhile, you may be able to find PAL by Googling "savingtails" , "critterlink", "Critter Link" or "PAL Community".
Addendum: My keyboard is worn out and sticky, and I'm a lousy typist, so I make lots of typos that i don't always catch. Please pardon me; I do the best I can.

March 26, 2009 We saw the president answer a few questions that were posted by Americans in a forum like manner. These same Americans could then vote on various other Questions posted by others. Now like most forum like polls. The most popular would be most likely voted into the position by those who are able to and are most affected by the Question. I was saddened to see that in the Veteran's Polls that the top question was about just the currewnt war veterans.
"The unemployment rate for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans is higher than the national unemployment rate. Our veterans are a national treasure. How can you, the VA and I ensure our veterans are successfully transitioning into civilian life?"
1,797 votes
The next Question would have been the better Question to ask. For it covered all Veterans, both past and present.
"Pro-military or not, our veterans deserve at least the basics: food, shelter, health care. How can we work together to ensure the basics for our veterans?"
1,406 votes
I thank JillF in Chicago, IL for thinking of all Veterans instead of just the current ones coming home. But, if this Question is not answered soon. Many of the past and present Veterans will still be wondering when will it be their turn to be helped. Many will feel that this administration is still working the same angles. That the Veterans have "served their purpose" Now they will be thrown away with the rest of the "trash". People are not toys, nor are they machines to be recycled or placed in a dump. Which is exactly what has been done for years. These Veterans, whether they saw Combat time or not, volunteered for duty. Ever since the legislature was passed that abolished the draft, every Military Veteran has made the descision to join the Military and put their lives on the line to keep America the place that they have been led to believe it is and should be. Yet looking around many Basic freedoms are denied to these brave people who tried to make a difference for the many.
The veterans need the answers to these Questions that involve many of them. Especially the Homelessness. Disability can be partially relieved if the stress of not having a home is relieved. Many of the Mentally handicapped Veterans (PTSD, Brain Trauma, Night Terrors, Flash backs, etc.) Can be relieved if the Veterans has a secure place for them. Where they feel safe and secure in familiar surroundings that don't change unless they want it to change. Instead they have to move from place to place in many places no one have the ability or training to help these Veterans. I have seen Veterans who have been banned from facilities for the Homeless because of their mental problems which are then exacerbated by the stresses of being out on the streets. Many cases end in tragedy.
An Article placed by Common Dreams Org: Traumatised Veterans 'Have Killed 120 in US'Which was posted in January 2008. Why was this not Noticed nor at least acknowledged? Because too many people were more worried about How much money they were not getting in the top 5% of the population who have more money then they know what to do with.
Another Article: 1 in 9 Veterans UnemployedThis one deals with Current War Veterans and their fears of coming home to no job after service. Which means no job and no home.
Now I see lots of "Veterans Homes" , but they are mainly for the elderly (both disabled and non-disabled). Not for the younger Veterans and their Families that need homes to get off the streets.
This article points out how Veterans who have been Mentally Traumatisedare being treated like they should be able to just go back to a normal life after being subjected to stresses that no civilian will ever have to face. (unless this country goes through another Civil War which is unlikely since not many would take up arms to try to fix the problems themselves instead of complaining about the problems then going back to doing the same old same old "Not my problem" attitudes.)
It is time to bail out paratransit riders from high fares, unfair transit policy, and isolation. There also needs to be economic stimulus to support persons with disabilities to acquire control of the paratransit, create jobs for persons who are disabled, and set up their own businesses without struggling to pay a multyitude of city, county, state registration and license fees. regarding income taxes, just as foreign business owners get 7 year waivers of income taxes , those citizens who are low wealth and trying to establish their own business should have the same privileges.
The disability colloboration not just be of agencies and corporate movers and shakers. There are talented individuals and small advocacy groups who can benefit from economic stimulus, too. We work very closely with persons who are disabled and all or most of these small, unfunded or underfunded have CEOs or directors who are disabled, too.
In NE IL, Chicago area, 86% of paratransit riders do not own cars. In Ne IL, both CHicago and suburbs accounted for, over 71% are Balck. Over 58% are seniors. Over 71% are low wealth.
Yet they have the highest transporttaion costs. They must allocate 25% or mre to transporttaion on incomes a slow as $350-674 while their pers on fixed route get to ride free or at a discount. Those who rde fixed rout and paty full fare only have to allocate an averge of 3-8% of their income to transportation.
[update- march 4, 2009- there is evidently a 250 extra payment for some persons on ssi and veterans- i've tried to find out exact details but kinda hazy. at least its not in mixed up tax refund and my estranged husband can't get his hands on it, like he took my stimulus in 2008.... but, alas, i am not holding my breath. i know it sounds greedy of me, but the rise in inflation and decrease in non-profit ngo help available, including decreasing amounts in food box contents- due to reduced amounts of people who can manage to donate and increased amount of people needing extra help- have made things very difficult. i've been against gambling all my life but i find myself buying scratch tickets when i get groceries, as an investment, not an entertainment....the only chance to get anything extra...] I have loooked and loooked at the stimulus package and there is help for ppl able to work and have jobs, ppl able to work who are unemployed, ppl in school, but no direct help for the disabled who cannot wolrk and are on SSI, SSD, or VA Disability. looks like you have to earn a certain amount before you are "really" affected by the recession/depression... No refund or refundable credit on taxes, as it says a percentage of taxes or 500, whichever is LESS, and i guess "zero" is less. i dunno bout the rest of the ppl on disability, but the folks i know living at a fraction of the poverty level are smacked down by this recession/depression pretty darn bad, especially w state benefit and assistance cuts, shortages at foodbanks and depletion of community sources of assistance
i guess we just don't really matter to the new pres and dems... after all my partner and i make a combined total of 900 a month and only were able to donate about 70 dollars over the course of the campaigns, so we don't count...
So here it is. The day so many have waited for, for so long. Today is the dawning of a new political, social & cultural era, not just in the United States but across the world.I've blogged before about how excited & hopeful I am about an Obama Presidency, but I want to explain what it means to me on very personal level. Barack Obama is the only politician I have ever heard talking about disability & disabled people in such a positive way. This positivity in itself is not only refreshing but also very necessary. Politicians in the UK rarely talk about the subject & when they do it's usually in very negative or unhelpful terms regarding welfare & state benefits. This is not the way to inspire young disabled people to achieve their goals. To many African Americans & also ethnic minorities around the world he is a symbol of the strides forward in recent decades & of positive change still to come. He's also given me hope as a young disabled woman.Barack Obama has proved that anyone from any background can achieve great things. I now hope that one day I see someone like me, posing for the press outidside the famous door of 10 Downing Street & giving their first speech as Prime Minister of Great Britain. This may seem unlikely but then so did the prospect of an African American President before Obama started his campaign.Change is possible.Yes. We. Can.
Dear President Obama,I have been waiting to hear what governmental plan could help me and my family. My son was told to quit his part time job several months ago and did not qualify for unemployment, so extending unemployment benefits does not help. I am sure you are aware that many businesses are either closing or reducing their employees — and/or reducing current employee hours, My son, Michael, is a High School graduate and has held one job for 6 years. He is interested in electronics, but I cannot motivate him to seek higher education that might help him get a job in that field. Why should he listen to me? Through the Vocational Rehabilitation (in New Hampshire) I was fortunate enough to earn my BFA in Graphic Design...it took me 7 years to complete since I was a single mom. However, 10 months after I graduated Rivier College - 1995 - in Nashua, N.H. I was still unemployed. Now, 13 years later I am employed part time as a cashier in a retail store. I was unable to procure a job in graphic design. The very small student loans that I had taken out while in college have grown to an insurmountable amount due to a few factors, mainly the interest. When my student loans first came into repayment I was working full time and making the required payments. After some very difficult situations I became unemployed and began receiving Supplemental Security Disability benefits. As the years went by I, again enlisted the assistance of the Vocational Rehabilitation and began working part time. At this time my student loans had been consolidated (which one can do only once, so if a lower interest rate comes, oh, well, too bad...) and because I had been unemployed – on disability – for several years the amount had grown so large that I was unable to make a payment that would cover the interest. My student loan is with Direct Loans now and is currently in NEGATIVE AMORTIZATION. I feel compelled to write, briefly of my despair and frustration in finding an option to repaying my student loan. Unlike credit card debt, one does not have the option to claim bankruptcy on a student loan. There is a disability clause that allows the “forgiveness” of a student loan, however, the disability must be total and permanent and a doctor’s note is required. (this is not only not fair to me, but to many other disabled people who can work ONLY part time, or in some DIMINISHED capacity.) I qualify for disability benefits due to asthma and anxiety. Both of these conditions have been known to be permanent, but are not necessarily permanent OR total. Through the Vocational Rehabilitation a letter can be written to place student loans on deferment status, BUT THAT DOES NOT STOP THE INTEREST FROM ACCUMULATING!! (But it DOES stop the 25 year count down for a “final” “forgiveness” option that allows the “borrower” to have their loan “written off” IN 25 YEARS if not totally repaid...however, that written off sum might be determined as income and taxed!!)So, my best option, so far for paying down my student loan is to win the jackpot in the lottery.Second to that option is for me to earn more than the loan’s interest. To this end I am participating in Social Security’s PASS Plan — a little known about governmental program to establish SELF SUFFICIENCY for disabled people who receive either SSI and/or SSDI. The rules are slightly different. With Supplemental Security while one is earning money their benefit check does not get reduced due to their earned income. However, part of their earned income is required to be placed in a separate account and is to be used ONLY for PASS expenses. I have worked long enough to qualify for Social Security benefits and have had my Supplemental Security benefits stopped because my part time work earnings caused me to earn too much (yet, my student loan is still in negative amortization because with my “income contingent” plan I do not earn enough to pay the loan’s interest! HA!) While on the PASS I have been able to have a little more money and work towards an employment goal which, in theory, would help me become “Self Sufficient”. I have been on the PASS for over 3 years and my current employment goal is to work in a library. I see the governmental budget cuts...state budget cuts...libraries get hit hard and are under appreciated. If I cannot get hired in a library by June 2009 my PASS cadre will reassess my work goal, but with jobs being lost and none being created what could I possibly change my PASS plan work goal to that could be realized in my lifetime???And what will happen in 25 years when and if I cannot pay down my student loan? Will I go to jail because when the government decides that an over-inflated-by-interest student loan is to be “forgiven” and becomes my taxable income, which I will most likely be unable to pay the tax???Monica MacKeachan Bead One, Thread Toohttp://www.bead1threadtoo.com
The only way for a hearing impaired person to get along with normal hearing people is to choose to associate as much as possible with decent people. The late Viennese psychiatrist Viktor Frank, recalling a long life in which he survived Auschwitz and Dachau concentration camps, finally concluded that there were two kinds of people in the world. Not Jews and non-Jews, not blacks and whites, not even men and women, but simply people who were decent and people who were not.http://www.hohadvocates.org/index.php?contenttype=Feature&target=home&subtarget=feature&selected=20

You see I know from personal experience that things often don’t end the way they do in the movies. I did everything right, went to college, worked for over thirty years, had good credit, paid my bills on time etc. Unfortunately I got sick in America. After a freak accident, I almost died, had to have brain surgery, and now have several incurable autoimmune diseases. That was hard enough to deal with, but when I filed a claim to get a government insurance policy (Social Security Disability Insurance) that I paid for every week out of my wages, just like many of you do, my life was permanently destroyed with the stroke of a pen, by a government worker to whom I was just an SS number, and who did not do their job properly. I lost all my life savings, and pension money while fighting for my benefits, and will never be able to recover from the emotional, physical and financial devastation that had on my life.
Unlike Frank Capra’s character George Bailey, there are no bailouts for me, or others like me. While family and friends have good intentions, they are not much better off either, so they really can’t help like they might want to, and I don’t qualify for Social Service programs. I don’t know how I am going to survive without some miracle like winning the lottery. I am now doomed to spend what’s left of my days here on earth, living in poverty, in addition to all my medical concerns. I will never be able to own a home, or get another car. My current vehicle which is on death’s door, is the only method of transportation I have for survival. Then there is always the struggle of deciding whether I should buy food, or get medicine, that much needed medical test, or see the doctor instead. When things break down now, I cannot fix them and have to do without. This totally unbearable, continuing source of stress and frustration, is killing me. I tell you this not for pity but to warn you that anyone of you reading this could end up just like me, and have your life changed forever by an unfortunate illness, accident, vicious act, service to our country or natural disaster. Remember that disease and tragedy do not discriminate on the basis of age, sex or race, and if you think this could not happen to you – you could be dead wrong, just like over 16,000 Americans in the last two years who did not survive the wait to get their Social Security Disability benefits.
Since most of our elected officials will probably never experience this scenario personally, because they usually have a nice financial cushion to fall back on, I don’t see any hope for change in regards to this problem, no matter who is in office. Let’s be brutally honest here. The first thing to get cut in local, state and federal budgets is always the money to fund programs that help the people who need it most. This problem has festered for decades and nobody is going to convince me that they don’t want us to give up or die. They continually talk about helping the upper class and the middle class. What about the millions of Americans that do not fit either of those categories? Thanks to their neglect of our situations, they continue to prove that they have no class. The only thing that ever trickles down to us is too nasty a word to mention, and the only light at the end of the tunnel is a freight train! Buildings are not built from the top down, and a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link. You can judge a country by how it treats it’s most vulnerable citizens, and we have been left to die in the streets, and on hospital waiting room floors. Based on what I have seen, heard, and personally experienced, America should hang its head in shame! Unfortunately for myself, and others like me it’s not such a wonderful life. There is no possibility of the American dream, only the reality of the American nightmare. My only hope is that it never happens to you.
Dear Barack,
If you ever read these things, and I highly doubt that you will ever see this, we really need to talk!

Things are not clear to me just as yet. However, I signed up because who in their right mind would vote McCain/Palin? I want to know if the elderly don't have to pay income taxes on the Obama ticket, will the disabled who can't work anymore also have this big break? I worked until I was sick and that was 7 years ago. I will never own my own home, never be able to buy life insurance without paying up the waa-zoo for it, and will never be able to travel un-tethered to the state of Michigan. What about all the benefits that have been taken from us over the years. Glasses, I can't see without them. Dental care, I can't chew without teeth. Will we ever see these things given back to us again or am I asking too much?
We are US
When Barack Obama addresses, "the American people", his voice is for all; rich, poor and everyone in between. He speaks for Americans of every background, religion, race, lifestyle, gender, age, creed and circumstance. When John McCain says, 'my friends", he refers only to those with the ability and tolerability to compete in a dog eat dog society, where force, trickery, money and power win. He speaks to a US, where might makes right and it is safe for every citizen to bear arms. He addresses an US where heterosexual, two parent families, are sacred and never rape, abuse or neglect their children. He speaks to a US where all good and worthy Americans, trust in a Christian or Jewish god. He sees only what he wants to see. He does not see clearly. He does not see US. John McCain is delusional, naive and uninformed.
Why else, does he promote war and give blanket support to the second amendment? Why else, does he resist allocating sufficient financial, social and health care resources to the poor, the elderly, the sick, the disabled and the unemployed so, that they, too may enjoy their constitutionally guaranteed rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Why else, does John McCain, support the big business health of health care at the expense of quality and affordable health care for all? Why else, does John McCain want to spend our money to kill abroad and let die at home?
Why else, would Jonh McCain give tax breaks to the wealthy, and leave corporations unrestrained and unaccountable to their employees and to their consumers? Why else, does he promise jobs that no longer exist? Jobs already outsourced, spent by corporate greed! Jobs exchanged for cheap, foreign, sweat labor, both here and abroad! Jobs sold for shoddy, poisoned goods, as consumer prices rise and our economy fails! Why else, does it take the downfall of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to gain John McCain's support for federal help, when multiple thousands of families have already lost their homes? If John McCain does not lose our country in a bloody, hate-filled war, surely he will sell or gamble it away!
Why else, does John McCain choose to annoint children of gay and lesbian parents, bastards by policy, by denying same sex parents equal rights, status and freedom to love openly, live freely and marry legally? Why else, does he deny teaching children age appropriate, protective and preventative, sex education at school? John McCain is right about one thing! Child sexual abuse is a family matter. It does most often happen at home! Why else, does John McCain want to force women to have children they are not prepared to parent? Why else, does he then, abandon those children and their parents? Why else, does he not see children, once born, consciously suffer and not infrequently die, at the hands, of troubled parents and caretakers? Why else, does he fail to see those children later, as parents, just like mom and dad; in another violent home, in prisons, jails, and mental facilities, or living on the streets? Why else, does John McCain choose to blame them, put them away or kill them by the hand and tools of government, then?
Barack Obama is not just a black man or a white man. He is a black man and he is a white man. He grew up in a non-traditional home with a mother and grandparents. He is Harvard Man, an attorney, a senator, an advocate, a community organizer, a husband, a father, a son. He has been many things, to many people, in many places. He knows what it is to belong and he knows what it is not to belong. He knows US. He will speak for all of US, by name. He will challenge John McCain's, Republican delusions, bigotry, haughtiness, self-RIGHTOUSNESS and indifference.
America is not John McCain’s Smelting Pot, where only conformity and sameness are right. America is a Melting Pot; a vibrant, hearty brew of human richness and diversity. The American Dream is not to be found in reckless pursuit of fame and fortune. The American Dream is not bought with money, nor is it won with power, influence, manipulation and force. Rather, the American Dream exists, inherently, in our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is the birthright, bequeathed to us by our fore founders, set forth indelibly, in our constitution. It proclaims to us, promise of equality, opportunity, freedom and justice for all. It elevates individual rights and embraces human worth, granting us freedom to be different, to determine our own lives, to pursue our own ambitions, to name our own families, to love from our own hearts and to believe in our own God or to choose not to believe at all. America is not free until we all are.
Barack Obama believes in US. Now, let it be known, to all, that we beleive in him.

As the Mother of a special needs child, I am truly, sadly, shocked by the utter audacity and lack of knowledge Palin has shown to these very special people. The fact that they are waving a disabled flag next to their religious and warmongering flags makes me sick. How dare she? What does she even KNOW of raising a kid with disabilities? She's still in the 'baby fun' stage, and she hasn't seen nothing yet. The trials and tribulations she is bound to experience have only just begun.
What about all the discourse you must endure with the Special School District, to ensure your child gets the accommodations they need? Wonder what she'll think when they say, "Sorry, but we can't give him this or that, its just not in our budget", or better yet, "We've never even heard of that therapy". Bet she hasn't done that yet. Bet she hasn't wanted to scratch the eyes out of the playground bully AND his enabler mom, when the mother of the bully ALLOWS her child to taunt your disabled one. She hasn't felt her heart being ripped out of her chest, and the burning pain that accompanies it. What about the day you realize your child will ALWAYS need you, will ALWAYS be with you? I say, what does she know of it yet, besides the side ways stares and new news that her so-called baby is 'different', because really, that's all she has had a taste of.
If the McCain ticket takes the votes, who do you think will actually raise the baby if she's VP? Her? Not a chance. So she will never experience any of this, and I'm sure her money and special interests will help out. I'd like to see her walk the life of a single mom on very limited income while raising a disabled child. Than, have the government and state agencies turn her down for any welfare or social service assistance programs. Next, make sure she gets fired from her low-paying job because she's missed too much work, in order to care for her disabled child. After that, turn her down for unemployment, just for extra flavor. Then we'll see what credence she can gain. I walked that line for many years, and its not easy. What does she know of any of this? It's an outrage.
Wonder what she'll do when her child realizes one day he/she is different, and asks with tears in their eyes, WHY DID GOD MAKE ME THIS WAY, and how will she answer this child? I think all the parents and people who care for mentally and physically disabled people should form protest groups against her, seriously, if they haven't already. All these people are all clamoring for her like she's Wonder Woman, when all she is McSame's BAIT! I can hear McCain thinking...."Ok, let's see here... what do we have covered? Good 'ol boys war vote: check. Women's vote: check. Disabled people's vote: check. POW vote: check. Religious Fundamentalist's vote: check." Should I also add "Stupid peoples vote? CHECK.".
McCain agrees with the 'out of touch ad.' Senator Obama need not change the 'John McCain is out of touch because he doesn't use computers or the internet' ad or copy one note or punctuation mark, nor need anyone back down from or question just how valid it is. McCain, to reiterate, agrees with the statement made in the ad.
