Where Do You Stand: Energy for America and the Truth about Energy?
We Are in a Crisis
Our dependence on foreign oil forms the intersection of the three most critical issues America currently faces: the economy, the environment and our national security.
There is a Solution
America is blessed with the world's greatest wind power corridor and abundant reserves of clean natural gas. The Pickens Plan will utilize these tremendous resources to build a bridge to the future — a blueprint to reduce foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives and buying time for us to develop even greater new technologies.
The Plan calls for building new wind generation facilities that will produce 20% of our nation's electricity and allow us to use natural gas as a transportation fuel. The combination of these domestic energies can replace more than one-third of our foreign oil imports. And we can do it all in 10 years.
We Can Bring Change On January 20th, 2009, a new President will take office. We're organizing behind the Pickens Plan now to ensure our voices will be heard by the next administration. Together we can raise a call for change and set a new course for America's energy future in the first hundred days of the new presidency — breaking the hammerlock of foreign oil and building a new domestic energy future for America with a focus on sustainability.
You can start changing America's future today by supporting the Pickens Plan. Join now.
The Man with the Plan
T. Boone Pickens, founder and chairman, BP Capital Management, is principally responsible for the formulation of the energy futures investment strategy of the BP Capital Commodity Fund and the BP Capital Equity Fund. With more than $4 billion under management, BP Capital manages one of the nation's most successful energy-oriented investment funds. Pickens frequently utilizes his wealth of experience in the oil and gas industry in the evaluation of potential equity investments and energy sector themes. He has not been shy in predicting oil and gas prices and — more often than not — has been uncannily accurate.
Pickens is also aggressively pursuing a wide range of other business interests, from water marketing and ranch development initiatives to Clean Energy, a company he founded and is the largest shareholder. Through Mesa Water, Pickens is the largest private holder of permitted groundwater rights in the United States. Clean Energy is advancing the use of natural gas as a cleaner-burning and more cost-effective transportation fuel alternative to gasoline and diesel.
Boone grew up in Holdenville, a small eastern Oklahoma town. His father was in the oil business, and his mother ran the Office of Price Administration during World War II, rationing gasoline and other goods for four counties. Boone attributes much of his success to his mother and father.
Boone graduated as a geologist from Oklahoma State University in 1951 and started work with Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. After three and a half years, he struck out on his own as an independent geologist. Pickens was founder of Mesa Petroleum in its various forms beginning in 1956. Mr. Pickens' career at Mesa spanned four decades. Under his leadership, Mesa grew to become one of the largest and most well known independent exploration and production companies in the United States; Mesa produced more than 3 trillion cubic feet of gas and 150 million barrels of oil from 1964 to 1996.
From its inception, Mesa was at the forefront of change and innovation. Mesa's fitness program is a good example. Boone has long understood the benefits of physical fitness. Mesa's fitness program has become a model for corporate America, and Mesa was the first company to be accredited by the Institute for Aerobics Research.
Throughout his professional life, Pickens has been a generous philanthropist, giving away almost one half of a billion dollars. In 2006, he contributed $175 million to a wide range of causes and the formation of the T. Boone Pickens Foundation. He has appeared multiple times on The Chronicle of Philanthropy's list of top U.S. philanthropists. The T. Boone Pickens Foundation is improving lives through grants supporting educational programs, medical research, athletics and corporate wellness, at-risk youth, the entrepreneurial process, and conservation and wildlife initiatives.
The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans Inc. selected Pickens as a recipient of the 2006 Horatio Alger Award, which epitomizes those who overcome adversity and humble beginnings to achieve success. It is but one of many honors awarded to Pickens for his achievements, including Trader Monthly's 2006 Trader of the Year award, the Texas Business Hall of Fame, and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
Pickens lives in Dallas and is married to Madeleine Ann Pickens. He has five children and 12 grandchildren.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE!
New Energy for America
The voters have spoken, but I don’t believe this was a mandate for the Democrats. It was a mandate for Obama’s promises of cooperation and bipartisanship, of treating each other with respect and dignity. It was a vote for the hope of a Washington that functions for the good of the American people.
Can Obama lead America to that reality, as he has promised? Time will tell. But, as Obama has said, getting there requires all Americans. It’s not something he can do by himself. It’s a challenge to all of us to work together so our nation can see better days.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this booklet. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden’s Plan for America
Barack Obama Plan for America
Energy and Environmental
Obama's plan to create five million new "green" jobs would depend upon a ten year, $150 billion investment to "catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future."
Obama has pushed for one million plug-in hybrid vehicles on the road by 2015 and a target of 10 percent of all household electricity originating from renewable sources by 2012.
He has also stressed the importance of providing short-term relief, offering to enact a Windfall Profits Tax that would provide a $1,000 energy rebate to American families.
Obama has even announced a plan to eliminate our current imports from Venezuela and the Middle East within ten years. Obama proposes a $7,000 tax credit for purchasing advanced vehicles.
Economy Obama's Stance on the Economy Barack Obama has offered a detailed plan to get America’s economy back on track, by creating new jobs and easing the burden on hardworking Americans by offering middle-class tax cuts three times the size of McCain’s. Learn More

President-elect Barack Obama, speaks during the election party at the Grant Park in Chicago, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 (NAM Y. HUH, ASSOCIATED PRESS / November 4, 2008)
Text of Senator Barack Obama's speech upon winning the presidency of the United States.OBAMA: Hello, Chicago. If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer. It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen, by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different, that their voices could be that difference.
Your thoughts on Barack Obama winning the 2008 presidential election:
Newsday's Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist.• Watch Walt's animations
It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled. Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states. We are, and always will be, the United States of America. It's the answer that led those who've been told for so long by so many to be cynical and fearful and doubtful about what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day. It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment change has come to America.A little bit earlier this evening, I received an extraordinarily gracious call from Senator McCain.Senator McCain fought long and hard in this campaign. And he's fought even longer and harder for the country that he loves. He has endured sacrifices for America that most of us cannot begin to imagine. We are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless leader.I congratulate him; I congratulate Governor Palin for all that they've achieved. And I look forward to working with them to renew this nation's promise in the months ahead.I want to thank my partner in this journey, a man who campaigned from his heart, and spoke for the men and women he grew up with on the streets of Scranton ... and rode with on the train home to Delaware, the vice president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden. And I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years ... the rock of our family, the love of my life, the nation's next first lady ... Michelle Obama.Sasha and Malia ... I love you both more than you can imagine. And you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us ...to the new White House. And while she's no longer with us, I know my grandmother's watching, along with the family that made me who I am. I miss them tonight. I know that my debt to them is beyond measure. To my sister Maya, my sister Alma, all my other brothers and sisters, thank you so much for all the support that you've given me. I am grateful to them. And to my campaign manager, David Plouffe ... the unsung hero of this campaign, who built the best -- the best political campaign, I think, in the history of the United States of America. To my chief strategist David Axelrod ... who's been a partner with me every step of the way.To the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of politics ... you made this happen, and I am forever grateful for what you've sacrificed to get it done. But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to. It belongs to you. It belongs to you.I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington. It began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston. It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give $5 and $10 and $20 to the cause. It grew strength from the young people who rejected the myth of their generation's apathy ... who left their homes and their families for jobs that offered little pay and less sleep. It drew strength from the not-so-young people who braved the bitter cold and scorching heat to knock on doors of perfect strangers, and from the millions of Americans who volunteered and organized and proved that more than two centuries later a government of the people, by the people, and for the people has not perished from the Earth. This is your victory. And I know you didn't do this just to win an election. And I know you didn't do it for me.You did it because you understand the enormity of the task that lies ahead. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime -- two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century.Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us.There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after the children fall asleep and wonder how they'll make the mortgage or pay their doctors' bills or save enough for their child's college education. There's new energy to harness, new jobs to be created, new schools to build, and threats to meet, alliances to repair. The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there.I promise you, we as a people will get there.AUDIENCE: Yes we can! Yes we can! Yes we can!OBAMA: There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president. And we know the government can't solve every problem. But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it's been done in America for 221 years -- block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand. What began 21 months ago in the depths of winter cannot end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek. It is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were.It can't happen without you, without a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice. So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility, where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves but each other.Let us remember that, if this financial crisis taught us anything, it's that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers. In this country, we rise or fall as one nation, as one people. Let's resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long.Let's remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House, a party founded on the values of self-reliance and individual liberty and national unity. Those are values that we all share. And while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, we are not enemies but friends. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices. I need your help. And I will be your president, too.And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces, to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of the world, our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand.To those -- to those who would tear the world down: We will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security: We support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright: Tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope. That's the true genius of America: that America can change. Our union can be perfected. What we've already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow. This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that's on my mind tonight's about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. She's a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing: Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old.She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons -- because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin. And tonight, I think about all that she's seen throughout her century in America -- the heartache and the hope; the struggle and the progress; the times we were told that we can't, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: Yes we can.At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. Yes we can. When there was despair in the dust bowl and depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a New Deal, new jobs, a new sense of common purpose. Yes we can.AUDIENCE: Yes we can.OBAMA: When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a democracy was saved. Yes we can.AUDIENCE: Yes we can.OBAMA: She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that We Shall Overcome. Yes we can.AUDIENCE: Yes we can.OBAMA: A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination. And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change.Yes we can.AUDIENCE: Yes we can.OBAMA: America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves -- if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made? This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.Thank you. God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America.

A powerful remind of why I've supported Obama from day 1 of his campaign ...
We had a great attempt at turnout for Early Voting these past few weeks, but it was made difficult to access for many voters with long lines, in-accessible hours, etc.
It's clear that the Republican goal is to drive down voting in key states by forcing everyone to have to go through a very hard time to vote.
You can be sure that the long lines this Tuesday will only drive voters away... Unless they believe this is something they have to do.
We can make this a historic moment that you HAVE TO be a part of or you'll forever regret it.
Drive people to vote by emphasizing that people will forever ask you if you voted and that you will be able to tell your grandkids, years from now, that you voted in this historic election.
"It's time for the last big drum beat to rally the troops and the faithful."
We need to drive it home that it is so important to vote people should go to extraordinary lengths: take time off from work, get a babysitter, get up early, ask for a ride to the polls, dress warmly, bring an umbrella, take the family, etc.
If our voters are willing to stand in the rain or the snow waiting to vote for hours on end, we might just have a chance to defeat the supression.
Maybe we can counter the Republican plan and make it blow up in their faces with this being an epic event everyone who is anyone needs to be a part of.
Remember Star Wars: Episode 1 tickets went on sale? How people would line up for hours just to get tickets? Honestly, I had more fun in line waiting overnight to buy tickets than I did watching the movie.
We need some of that magic. Because, after this election, I want to hear people say, "I Made History. I Voted."
So I see the recent McCain propoganda Ad that talks about Barack not having executive experience and how the next President needs to have that experience to deal with the first crisis they will face, the economy.
It occurs to me that our current President was governor of Texas for 8 years and has been President for nearly 8 years. That is 15-16 years of executive experience and he is clearly unable to handle this crisis (and many others). This leads me to assert that perhaps simply having executive experience has no bearing on how well someone can handle a crisis.
IF we want to ignore that and actually make the HUGE assumption that it makes a difference, how much executive experience does McCain have? The only thing I've been able to find online that MIGHT be construed as executive is that he was the leader of his flight wing.
This is a tired argument with no real merit. Let's talk about real issues and not red herrings.
I recently took a break from grassroots organizing and canvassing to create a video that departs from the usual political commercial:
Truckers for Obama: The Road to Change
It stars a 1952 Chevy pickup truck named Betsy ... and drives viewers to VoteForChange.com.
I just heard this excellent, though accidental quote on the set of a toy commercial today. My crew was all fired up about politics, and in between takes, people were jumping onto their laptops to check the latest in news, polls, etc.
In between one of the takes, the director teased one of the production assistants, an 18-year-old, that he was gonna vote McCain because his parents told him too. My crew immediately jumped on him... "How could you vote McCain?!!" It was very cute... He got all blushy in his 18-year-old undecided-voter way and started defending himself...
We all laughed and poked fun at him... until our client pointed out that we should move on and get the next shot. That's when our director said it.... "Let's keep the political chatter down, and... ACTION!"
How appropriate :)
This new commerical for McCain and Palin has raised the bar on ridiculous campaign strategies. The fact of the matter is, McCain has had years of experience in high ends of government, and Palin...well she's participated in beauty pagaents. Oh and was the governor of Alaska. Which clearly qualifies her to be president once McCain kicks it.
All of that aside, McCain's campaign has decided that the former tactic of attacking Obama's "lack of experience" wasn't really a card to continue to play now that they have Palin in the running...they wanted to side step that whole thing and instead compete with Obama on his promise of change. Basically, McCain is back-tracking. He's now saying that a few years as a governor is adequate to serve the country, and this anti-Bush attitude sells almost as good as sex so he might as well jump on that band wagon too.
The commercial is taking aim at those who, up to this point, haven't paid much attention. They are trying to change McCain's "brand" from Father Time (an all-knowing, all-experiencing man's man who believes in the tradition of the Republican party) to The Nominees Next Door (down to Earth blue collar folks who are just as sick of these Republicans as you are). I wonder how pleased the majority of Republicans are watching this commercial; I mean McCain's biggest selling point is that he and Palin had the guts to fight against the Republican agenda.
Hopefully people watching will realize that if the Republicans are attacking themselves, maybe it's best to stay away from that whole mess and just go with the Democrats. The Democrats spend their time trying to better the country, not playing the blame game and pointing fingers when they decide it's not popular to lean a certain way anymore.
I thought Barack was a nice enough person. He talks about change. Oprah likes him. He seems ready to clean up Washingtion. Even the lipstick comment wasn't much of a story.
That is until today. I saw the commerical he endorsed attacking John McCain's computer skills. This sickened me to the core. I actually became ill. The man's arms and hands were crushed when he was a prisoner of war. It is physically impossible for him to pose his fingers on a keyboard. Is this what this campaign has come too? I really though Obama's change would be seen on the campaign trail.
What next Mr. Obama? I am truly disappointed.
This video is dedicated to the movement that has taken place in this country. We couldn't have done it without Barack Obama and the millions of people who work for change everyday...
This year for the first time since the 1960’s many young people have become engaged in politics and now comes a new documentary film that compares today’s youth movement to the one of forty years ago.

Here's my take on handling Sarah Palin...!
1. Stay Focused on McCain. He is running for POTUS. Sarah is a side show. Obama should always stay focused on Mccain. Create a separate Palin response team consisting on women surrogates, separate press teams etc. Do not let the main team even think about Sarah. In addition, Obama should never come across as angry, irritated when talking question ( which may not always be avoided) about Sarah. The McCain's are looking for a BLACK MAN BEATING A HELPLESS BEAUTIFUL, LOVELY, WHITE, BLONDE WOMEN BEATING moment.
2. Use women surrogates and beat her up on women rights. Make her restate her extreme view on womens issues and seccionist ties of her and her husband.
3. Assocaite McCain to Palin's extreme, right wing views. Use negatives of Palin to hit McCain. Make McCain pay for her words.
4. Remember, Palin is a distraction (at least for now). Do not bring in the BIG GUNS TO KILL A FLY.
5. Start a separate fundraing account just for hitting Palin. The base is mad, furious at her. They would not might contributing extra just to target her.
6. No separate, individual ad hitting just Palin. It should always be McCain using Palin's views and words.
With Obama and Biden taking over the media with interest, McCain, feeling ignored, put out a congragulatory commercial message to Barack Obama.
In reality, McCain was saying, "Hey, don't forget about me."
I like the Obama spirit. Vote for Barack Obama.
During the Olympics, McCain ran a commercial calling himself "The Original Maverick".
This, as any keen watcher of the political landscape is both historically untrue and no longer true of Senator McCain. The latter has sold himself out to Mr. Bush with 100% of his votes in 2008 going to support the president. Among the positions he has reversed, for example, is his stand on torture: where he spoke out against it, he now supports it.
The tagline of the new commercial is "Maverick No More". McCain's flip-flops to the Bush camp will be enumerated, culminating with his sellout to Big Oil. In the end, the commercial might say "People change. Sometimes for the worse" linking this to pictures of McCain with Bush.
The objective is to take away McCain's claim to the title which he doesn't deserve anyways.

I'm sharping my video skills and planning to put this message on my blog spot (www.chamay0.blogspot.com). It will take me a while since I am still in my infancy with this topic but I'll get it out before November.
