The New Poor

A story that examplifies the current economicsituation. I was on work assignment in a southern city. I was riding along with a couple of friends I had met from other places around the US. One of them spotted a beggar in the middle of the medium. He made a comment like, “You mean to tell me that guy can stand on the medium all day but he can’t get a job?” I was in the process of slamming on my breaks to stop next to him. The cars occupants were ushering me on out of some form of embarrassment. The one guy says to me, “were you really going to give that guys money?” I said “No way!” Confused I explained to them that I was going to ask him, “What are your financial secrets to success?”
Amazingly that didn’t get any one of them less confused. I explained, “that guy is much wealthier then I am.” There is no way that guy can get credit with no job. What he has is all his. Now me, I have a house mortgage the bank owns, School loan the government owns, two car loans the credit union owns, and $15,000 In credit card debt that I own. If the banks called in both of our accounts at the same time (mine and the street beggar), he would be around $180,000 richer then I am. Each day I slip a little further behind him. Each dollar puts him further ahead. I think the general consensus was that I was smoking something and should really share. I am used to that.

Article I, Section 8, Clause 5 gives Congress the power "to coin Money [and] regulate the Value thereof."
What are they waiting for?

Stopping the Republican's hijacking of Christianity
- Sep 26th, 2008 at 11:30 pm EDT
I had a discussion (maybe classified as an argument) with my Republican grandmother today. It disturbs me that she constantly says because she is older, she is smarter than me and her vote is made smarter than mine could be. I countered this with the explanation that having an informed vote doesn't include memorizing talking points from idiots like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levine, and Michael Savage. I can't even believe my grandmother would listen to any of them especially Michael Savage and call herself a Christian. These people slander everything Democrat, consistenly distort the facts, and dupe the public for their own personal gain. You know why they want Republicans in the White House and Senate/House? Because they will gain financially very greatly. They are money hungry, greed inftested, evil people who like to misinform my grandparents because they might get a tax cut for their corporations if a Republican is elected. My grandparents are middle class. I asked my grandmother why, if the Republicans cared so much, wouldn't they have done something to help her in the last twelve years while they controlled Congress and the last eight when they controlled Congress and the White House? She likes to blame the Democrats for everything bad, but like I pointed out that it is the Republican Greed Machine that has created this mess in America. They've insisted and started an unjust war that has cost me and my kids more than her; more than 600 Billion dollars. That is almost as much as the economic bailout. Which is quite ironic might I add that those numbers are so close. If the Republicans truly cared about any of us who aren't Bill Gates or anyone with Rockerfeller in our last name, wouldn't they have seen to it the little guy wasn't trampled on only to have them pay to fix the mess on Wall Street? How many people are losing a huge portion of their 401K? How many people are losing their houses? How many people have filed bankruptcy because of the economy? How many people have had to try to apply for Medicaid, food stamps, and energy assistance in the state of Wisconsin alone; because they have no resources left. The Republicans are quick to jump on the "deregulation" band wagon. The markets will fix everything, they say, but I ask in what way will they "fix" it. It is a fix, a huge fix. At my and my children's expense, possibly even my grandchldren or great-grandchildren. Republicans would rather see poor people or even those who fall on hard times die than maybe give a dollar to feed someone lunch. If they had their way they would commit mass murder to rid the country of all those poor or of pigmented skin tones. I cannot believe anyone would think the Republicans have any good answers at this point. I have a medical condition, I have to live with my mother while I go to school, my stepfather just had a heart attack, my children are in school and growing they need a lot; I am scared that tomorrow everything could get lost. What would happen if we had no food, no money, and no home. I don't see John McCain offering to put people up in one of his numerous houses. I don't see any of the Republicans trying to empathize. They want to blame everyone except where the blame should go-themselves. Let's hope and pray the American people see the truth before it is too late. I hope and pray to God they are aware enough to vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
