never! That means somebody knew from day one they were never going to
be able to pay back the loans." The bankers approved these loans and used the money to pay themselves bonuses and payed our government representatives to look the other way…that’s where we are…any suggestions for getting us out of the mess are welcome…but if you just want to play the blame game…where does that get us?

Bank Bonus Money

After President Obamas comments today on the bonuses paid to the employees of the wall street banks. I'm intrested to see if "we the people," can band together, so our voices are heard by President Obama and the Sec of the Treasury, that we demand this money back! Add it to the stimulus bill in the form of infastructre spending. 18 billion dollars would go a long way.

$700 Billion Dollar Bailout, No Strings?

I am watching this one VERY closely. It appears to me that the Republicans are once again trying to take care of their buddies who have made a tremendous mess of things. They want to use our money to erase their debt. In return I get nothing but the promise that they will not do this again. Homeowners get no protections? Shame on them. The democrats had better GROW A PAIR and fight this one. I am watching!

U.S. Spends $515 BILLION DOLLARS a year for WAR ($515,000,000,000.00)

U.S. spends $515,000,000,000.00 a year for war. Yet, there is no country at war with the United States.

The U.S. chose this war. It is not a war against a country, but a war against a gang in Afghanistan. While fighting this war against a gang, more people in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan lose everything, become destitute and angry and decide to join the gang.

We BORROW money from countries that do not like the U.S. (like China, Russia) and they take our money, with interest and give it to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Iran, etc.. In turn those countries grow opium and other drugs and overwhelm American cities in drug traffic. Weakening our government, our citizens and our national security.

What if we spent $515,000,000,000.00 for American mass transit, American job investment, American health care, American education, American crime eradication, repairing and maintaining dams, feeding the needy, homeless childcare, etc..

Bush Cost Us $10mil per American

I have a confession. Long ago, I was a Republican. There was a time, in my childhood, when I was raised to believe that the GOP stood for certain values that the more intelligent working class held dear. Chief amongst this was Fiscal Responsibility - Lower taxes, fewer handouts, smaller foot of government. If you voted for a Republican candidate, it was assumed they'd do everything they could to keep taxes from raising, and maybe even lower them, usually at the expense of social programs that usually only benefitted those who refused to work for a living.

I'm still not a huge fan of handouts. It angers me that both my wife and I have to work 9+ hours a day, we pay our taxes, we pay our bills on time, we are fiscally responsible to the point of frugality, and yet we still barely manage to eke out enough to purchase enough generic X brand formula for our child's bottles. This, after waiting until we were financially ready to have a child before trying for one, and making sure we were well-educated and had enough of a support structure in place to adequately care for him once he was born.

Yet a Professional Victim can go out, get drunk, get laid, end up pregnant, jobless, and be fully supported by our tax dollars with so much name-brand formula and diapers each month that she doesn't have to work, and in fact sells the excess to her friends for weed money. That angers me. It is not only an abuse of the system, but it rewards the incompetant and irresponsible at the expense of those who went to great pains not to be.

My wife and I bought a smaller, older house than what we could be approved for in the load, because we wanted to ensure we could make our mortgage payments each month. Even then, we had to go with an ARM, knowing full well that in two years it would balloon into an insane interest rate. We educated ourselves enough to know that we had to pay every single month, on time, no matter what, as well as lower our personal debts, so that when it came time to refinance, we could get a 30 year fixed at a reasonable rate. To do this, we went without a lot of things, and had some really thin weeks where soup and crackers might be it for 3 days worth of meals. But we did it, we held steadfast, and because of fiscal responsibility, we managed to get by, lower our debt, build our savings up, and get out from under the ARM and into a fixed mortgage that we could afford.

Conversely, I watched as irresponsible couples take the maximum amount of house they could be approved for, and then proceed to spend the next two years filling it with expensive toys, luxury items, occasionally missing payments, making late payments, running up debt to the point they could borrow no more, and then finding out they not only one day couldn't afford the house they live in, but they couldn't even get approved for refinancing because of poor fiscal choice. Now I'm poised to watch these peole become bailed out of their own poor decisions. They get the best of both worlds.

I was raised to beleive in a Balanced Budget. It was a pipe dream for most of my life, always talked about like some sort of Utopian Concept, never quite achievable, but always worth striving for. It wasn't until we finally got a Republican OUT of office, and got a Democrat (Bill Clinton) into office, that we saw that not only was a balanced budget possible, but that we could even achieve a SURPLUS!!!

When Bush came into office in 2000, I was still a Republican, and to my shame, I voted for Bush. I was going off of an older, blind party ideal that no longer existed, and watched as, instead of taking that surplus and turning it into a massive investment in the future of our country that would pay off in dividends for decades to come, instead he squandered it and ran up multiple TRILLIONS of dollars in debts to foreign governments to finance an illegal war against a country that never invaded us, and THEN had the audacity to give a tax break on top of all that, mostly to the richest citizens who needed it the least, and paid the most taxes.

Now, while I can understand the debate over the merits of taxing the rich less to stimulate economic growth versus taxing the poor less to give them more chances at economic self-advancement. But to simultaneously cut revenue from your majority tax dollars AND increase spending into the trillions of dollars is about the most idiotic combination of factors I've ever seen in my life, to such a mentally staggering degree that I cannot even conceive of the damage done. Honestly, can anyone here conceive of a trillion-dollar debt? After that twelvth zero, one might as well just say a "bazillion" for all we could imagine.

Maybe a little perspective is in order... Allegedly, the war in Iraq alone has cost us over $3 trillion. Let's just cut the marker at there. There's about 300 million Americans.

Let me spell it out. Bush's regime has cost every American citizen roughly $10,000,000. That's right. YOU, an American citizen, are now in debt more than 10 million dollars due to the current Republican idea of sound Fiscal Policy. The Bush fiscal policies have bankrupted our nation. In a lifetime of frugality and responsible savings and wise investment, I might never reach $10mil, and I'm a pretty responsible person with some good financial acumen. How long do you think it will take American citizens to pay off this debt? 50 years? 100 years? Will we even have that choice, or will our debt be sold as an asset to some corporation that now (also thanks to Bush) has the power to control and operate an Army that is more numerous, better equipped, and less beholden to the law than our own national army?

Perhaps this, more than anything is the reason I have abandoned the Republican party. I saw it coming in 2004 and voted Kerry, but it was too late, and Bush's people had tainted the entire system. Now, in 2008, we have one more chance to change the course of our country. We stand at a precipice on which America the Land of The Free is on one side, and America the Fallen Empire is on the other, Democrats moving us one way, Republicans pushing towards the other. When you cast your ballot, keep this in mind. We cannot afford another Republican, and neither can we allow the special corporate interests to gain control of our government as they will under Hillary's reign.

It is only through the common will of the people that we can hope to overcome the $3 trillion dollar hurdle that threatens the stability and sovereignty of our nation. And the common will cries out for Obama.

What is a BILLION?

The next time you hear a politician use the word "billion" in a casual manner, think about whether you want the "politicians" spending YOUR tax money. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division. Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean?

Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you would each get $516,528.
Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home gets $1,329,787.
Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D.C ... HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken? Just take a look at all these taxes we pay.
