Barack Talks to Vets in Billings

Senator Obama spoke to a group of veterans and military families yesterday at Riverfront Park in Billings. He spoke at length on the failures of the current administration to take care of the nation’s veterans, before taking questions from the audience on a variety of issues. You can watch his remarks about veterans, energy, and the VA system here.

What's going on right now, the simple fact is we're not doing right by our veterans. Not here in Montana, and not anywhere in the United States, and I want you to know that one of the reasons I'm running for president of the United States is because I want to make sure that today's veterans are treated like my grandfather was, when he came home, he got the GI Bill and was able to go to college and got FHA loans to go to school and was treated with honor. As President I'm going to make sure that the VA system in Montana gets the oversight, direction, and resources it needs to do the job. [Watch the video]

Before he spoke, Senator Obama talked privately with the family of Spc. Chris Dana, a Montana National Guard veteran who suffered from Posttraumatic stress disorder and committed suicide in 2007, shortly after returning from Iraq. His stepbrother, Matt Kuntz, has became an advocate for better treatment of PTSD.

Barack's Visit to Billings

The Obama Campaign for Change announced some details about Sen. Obama’s visit to Billings this Wednesday August 27th. Barack will have a discussion on Securing America’s Future with Montana veterans and military families, focusing on his commitment to America’s servicemen and women and their families. In order to ensure that Barack can have a real discussion with Montana veterans and military families, the event is invite only. If you are interested in seeing the event, it will be broadcast LIVE by all three Billings TV stations.

Race vs Privilege...or are they the same.

Since Tuesday....I keep hearing the words of the Reverend Al Sharpton when he spoke at the State of the Black Union.

As a person of color, I am tired of playing by the rules....and when I start to win....they change the rules....they move the goal post. That is what is happening here....we are going to seat the Michigan and Florida delegates? We are going to give a "do over"?

But in this sense, I think it has less to do with race and more to do with priviledge. The Clinton's are the Democratically Privileged---they feel entitiled to have a second chance at the Presidency. But then again, in this case, is there any real discernable difference between race and priviledge. I don't have that answer.

But lets not forget the "accomplishments" of the Clinton year's..... Don't ask; Don't Tell....Giving in to Newt and "Welfare Reform", NAFTA, and of course: the defence of marriage act. Way to fight for us.

I need Barack to speak up....stand up for change. There is no shame in pointing out hipocrisy--it is that hipocracy that we seek to change.
