Marilyn Monroe was her time ahead, always.

Ella Fitzgerald & Marilyn Monroe, in 1955 (above) and in 1962, (below), the year Marilyn Monroe passed away. In 1955, when racism was still a big issue in the United States of America, Ella Fitzgerald became the first African-American to perform at the Mocambo, after Marilyn Monroe had lobbied the owner for the booking. The booking was instrumental in Fitzgerald's career. Marilyn would promise the owner that she would appear every night (and be on time), and this way also fill the house--and she did, she was there every night, and she filled the house and: she was always on time! Their close friendship lasted for many years and Ella would sing Marilyn Monroe's famous 'My Heart Belongs To Daddy'in honor of her wonderful friend Marilyn Monroe, who died almost 34 years before she passed on in 1996, at age 79.

Did I hear correctly that Palin or the Mccain Campaign said something like "Society can be judged by its treatment of those not able to stand up for themselves"???? It was used in reference to their position on abortion.

Did anyone else hear this? What is the actual statement they made?

If I'm not crazy, they have "plagiarized" the famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Attention: hunters and others

In past elections, Republican candidates have been more supportive of hunters than have Democratic candidates, or at least it appeared that way. Now those of us who enjoy hunting as a sport need to reconsider our voting habits and make a change. Barack Obama is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment. He knows constitutional law.

On the other side, we have someone who believes it is a sport to shoot animals from airplanes and helicopters. Sarah Palin also believes the mineral resources of Alaska should be exploited to the fullest extent, with no regard for the near-term and long-term effects on the environment. John McCain named her to the ticket for the momentary lift it gave his candidacy, not for the good of the country.

McCain/Palin is not the choice of hunters and people who love the outdoors. Obama/Biden is the team for us.

Republican Party (US) No Friend to Animals

John McCain has just announced his choice for the Republican VP slot: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who is no friend to animals. In 2007, Palin announced a $150 bounty for wolves. Why? Because wolves prey on moose and caribou, two favorite targets for hunters in Alaska. So Palin instituted a program to encourage hunters to kill wolves so that there would be more moose and caribou for hunters to kill. A lawsuit by Defenders of Wildlife resulted in the Alaska Superior Court ruling that the state Department of Fish and Game did not have the authority to institute a bounty program. A state program to shoot wolves and bears from the air continues, and on August 26, 2008, Ballot Measure 2, which would have stopped the aerial gunning of predators, was defeated by state voters.

Palin is also a hunter and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

In addition, Palin has sued the Bush administration to delist polar bears under the Endangered Species Act because the protection of polar bears interferes with drilling for oil and gas. Palin even penned an op-ed for the New York Times, explaining her scientific arguments against protecting polar bears. Isn't it funny how her op-ed doesn't mention drilling for oil?

Needless to say, from an animal rights standpoint, Sarah Palin would be a disastrous VP.

" McPain " and media's insulting assumptions

If you believe the McPain Campaign's premise, and the right-wing media:

women are going to vote for McPain b/c Sarah is a woman;

environmentalists will vote for them b/c she's from Alaska - previously, a wildlife haven;

students will choose McPain b/c Sarah is young and "fresh".

THESE NOTIONS ARE AS INSULTING TO EACH OF THESE GROUPS AS IS THE BELIEF THAT NON-WHITE ETHNIC VOTERS WILL CHOOSE BARACK B/C HE'S BI-RACIAL.

Apparently, they do not realize that we have BRAINS, we vote on the ISSUES and GOOD JUDGEMENT, and we are not blind lemmings that can be manipulated so easily...

Thank goodness Obama and Biden know us better!!

Como ciudadanos que siempre hemos gozado de las virtudes de la libertad de expresión como un derecho humano contenido en la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos de 1948 y amparada en los tratados internacionales de Derechos Humanos, sentimos una gran preocupación por la tendencia a eliminar las libertades civiles de una nación que, históricamente, representó un ejemplo de esperanza en todos los pueblos del mundo. El 27 de noviembre del 2006 la propuesta de Ley titulada: Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act S. 1926 y HR 4239 (AETA) fue aprobada a pesar de que el Diputado Dennis Kucinich la cuestionó porque violaba la Primera Enmienda Constitucional que prohíbe la creación de cualquier ley que atente contra la libertad de expresión. 160 Grupos (National Lawyers Guiad, American Civil Liberties Union, New York City Bar Association, Natural Resources Defense Council, Humane Society of the US, American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, entre otros) y miles de electores también se opusieron, por cuanto esta Ley define cualquier actividad proanimal (protestas pacíficas, boicots, campañas, investigaciones encubiertas para exponer la crueldad animal, publicaciones en la Web, entre otros) como acto terrorista.

Como defensores de los derechos comprometidos con esta causa, vemos con preocupación la imposibilitad de nuestros activistas aliados , para participar en protestas o campañas pacíficas , por temor a ser enjuiciados como terroristas Considerar por ejemplo una manifestación a favor de la protección animal como un acto terrorista en un país que supuestamente apoya la libertad de expresión, resultaría contradictorio e inconstitucional con los derechos civiles de un pueblo. Si esta Ley se amplía para otras luchas sociales, terminaríamos considerando a todos los líderes de derechos como terroristas. Una gran deshonra para luchadores como Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, y Mahatma Gandhi que también serían considerados como terroristas.

La legislación aprobada en virtud de que la actual administración está muy sesgada a favor de proteger a las empresas que abusan de los animales, ha puesto en tela de juicio la moralidad del pueblo americano al otorgar a los promotores de esta Ley (empresas biomédicas) beneficios, a sabiendas de que estas de manera reiterada violan constantemente las leyes federales en América. Así mismo ha deslegitimado las leyes de justicia al pisotear la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos (Derechos Civiles) y los Derechos Animales, violar acuerdos y tratados en Derechos internacionales, atentar legalmente contra la Primera Enmienda Constitucional y todo tipos de legislación animal vigente.

Por último, nos preocupa el lugar de Estados Unidos en materia política-económica ante la comunidad internacional por cuanto es un hecho ampliamente conocido , que la intervención en conflictos bélicos en otros países, ha venido debilitando, el emblema de justicia y libertad de expresión que caracterizó al pueblo americano .Desde el punto de vista económico los ciudadanos de otros países vemos con temor la legalidad de expandir una Ley represiva contra la libertad de expresión con las grandes empresas biomédicas en el mercado internacional

Al mirar hacia la elección de un nuevo presidente, aspiramos que el nuevo líder americano , reflejé un modelo de gestión, donde la libertad de expresión sea el mejor aliado de confianza en las relaciones internacionales con otros países del mundo

Canvassing Cats

Sunday when my cousin and I went around a local neighborhood, there was a cat we befriended that followed us all around the neighborhood. Last night, my kids and I went canvassing around our neighborhood and my cat, who never leaves the cul de sac actually followed us all around our neighborhood canvassing for Obama. What's the deal with cats canvassing? I have no clue but I think it's the cutest thing, and the company was just dandy. I guess the man just reaches everyone!!

Don't Farm Animals Deserve our Attention?

I have been eating meat my entire life, that is, until two days ago. Two days ago is when I read a book, "Skinny Bitch" which provides graphic descriptions (all extremely painful) of how farm animals are mistreated. Who are we, or better, who do we think we are that we can let these practices go on?

I urge everyone to become aware, though it is painful, of how these animals are being treated. They are not being killed humanely. They are being tortured, sometimes burned and skinned alive, having body parts cut off while alive. My God. How do we allow all the pain and suffering to go on and on? Our government is aware, the farmers are aware, the truckers who transport these poor animals to the slaughterhouses are aware and the sadists at the slaughterhouses are aware. The treatment of these animals is below inhumane and I am stunned and angered to learn what goes on.

Who owns the slaughterhouses? Who allows these people to operate them in the way they do? Barack Obama, please make this one of your issues!
