I just received a newsletter from Rick Steves, who has a travel show on PBS that my family has enjoyed for years. He writes: "After the election of Obama, Europe looks at us differently. Now, ambassadors will speak the languages of the countries in which they are posted. Cities will celebrate rather than shut down when the American president comes to town. Europe will look to America with more respect. When our president speaks, Europeans will actually want to listen. In an odd twist, now Europe is actually jealous when it looks at our leader — a man who embodies our high ideals of pluralism and inclusivity...an eloquent speaker who's intellectual, who's at ease with and enjoys sophistication. For Americans traveling to Europe, things are suddenly more fun. I personally cannot wait to get back to Europe in the Obama era." He goes on to post a long list of links to news headlines from news agencies around the world, which you can find here: http://www.ricksteves.com/news/travelnews/obamarama.htm Enjoy!
This video doesn’t give all the details of Americanism Economics, but does go over some necessary things the Congress needs to keep in mind.

Here is some news from around the world and here at home. Some of this will be discussed on the MSM, but much of it will not be discussed. Although the MSM has seemed concerned about our economic mess, once more their focus is largely on the political effects of this problem, and the "horse" race. Polls are not news. I have compiled news from around the world and attempted to set forth a brief synopsis. If you want to get more on the story, you can click the link below the summary.
Hurricane Ike:

Myanmar (sometimes referred to as Burma)
The Myanmar military junta frees political detainee, Win Tin, after 19 years imprisonment. He was part of a package that freed 9,000 political prisoners there. He is 79 years old and one of the founders of the National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Aung San Suu Kyi. The NLD won elections in 1989 and Aung San Suu Kyi was set to take the reigns of government, but the generals stopped the transfer of power. Aung San Suu Kyi is under house arrest.

NATO faces rising hostility in Afghanistan. The Taliban uses innocent civilians as human shields-- and those civilians too often are killed. Also, innocent civilians are killed by aerial bombing and they get caught in the cross-fire.

President Bush meets with military and other advisers to review Afghanistan policy.

Yahya Jammeh, the "President" of Gambia (he seized power in a military putsch in 1994) claims he can cure AIDS and asthma. He says he can cure AIDS on Thursdays and asthma on Fridays and Saturdays. He has one requirement to seek treatment from him-- patients must stop taking anti-viral medication (commonly prescribed for AIDS). (Again my own editorializing-- is this "President" doing this in an attempt to keep power or does he actually believe this nonsense? This "cure" will kill many-- another senseless tragedy).

Members of the Sunni Awakening fight each other over power and control. Quote from the article:

I’m a single dad, I’ve been with my son since before birth. talking to him while he was still in his mothers womb. Seconds after birth he recognized my voice opened his eyes and smiled at me while reaching out. I raised my son as a single father since he was three. That’s him next to the D.N.A. model we worked on together. That’s also him at three years old at the end of the video.
“Please daddy dont leave“. VISIT scorpi2000 wordpress.com
This song was inspired by him. WHILE LEAVING FOR WORK MY SON SAID CRYING PLEASE DADDY DON’T LEAVE, STAY WITH ME. I PROCEEDED TO WORK THAT DAY WITH TEARS IN MY EYES, AND AFTERWARD TOOK MANY DAYS OFF TO GIVE HIM WHAT ALL OF OUR CHILDREN NEED.
UNITED SCHOLASTIC STUDENT MOTIVATIONAL PROGRAM was also inspired by him and my experience with the public school system.
I live in the city, an African American neighborhood, where their is a lack of fathers present to support and giude their children.
THE DECLINE OF THE TRADITIONAL BLACK FAMILY
This is not just a problem that is all the fault of black fathers . The divorce rate, The laws that support womans rights over mens rights.when it comes to children, and who has to pay child support. the government has traditionaly supported mothers in thier quest to raise the children. Forcing many fathers out of the picture only to be finacial providers. Many of those black fathers were discriminated out of a job. or the job owners moved to the suburbs. Many women changed thier perspective about allowing the man to be the man of the house ., making the easier choice of divorce, child support, and a new boy friend and public aid. As you can see thier are alot of cause and effect issues that plauge our black families and communities. This battle between who is going to be the leading influence in a childs life has seriously effected our black families and have manifested in what we see today.
I sacrificed jobs and money to personally walk my son thru his formative years. I really felt all alone, mostly mothers and their children. Many without fathers present in their lives. I sacrificed also dating because I felt it would distract me from my double duties. His mother was not available. Many mothers overwhelmed me with their request for me to be there for their children and be a good influence for their sons too. Where were their fathers ? Some working, some not there. I reluctantly turned the mothers down because, they were not willing to make the same sacrifices. They were not aware of the some of the issues and beleifs I was instilling in my son that were absent in their lives. Not only did I not have time or extra to sacrifice ,but trying to combine the up bringing of my child, as a single father and help with their children, would have been too much for me to handle . Being an only child I took on the roll of being father, mother, brother, and friend.I taught him computers before kindergarten, and stayed close to him all along the way as he maintained an A average. He graduated from grammar school Valedictorian 3.9 average. I was so proud of him and glad I made the sacrifice.Hes a junior in high school now, and so far wer’e beating the odds…….Now college ,,,,some how Im going to pull that off too.
A Fathers Involvement makes a Biiiiig difference.
