He lives and works in Corvallis at Oregon State University as a coach. I'll be attending to not only show my support but also as a photographer to shoot the event. Over a hundred people came together to watch history unfold in Tulsa, OK. Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention was the magnet that brought young and old, seasoned voters and first time voters, regardless of race or political affiliation together. Most of the people who came to watch hadn't met before, but you wouldn't know it by looking, as they all seemed to be well acquainted. People shared their passion for change over food and drinks, laughter and the occasional tear. Most people left with some sort of Obama gear, eager to proudly promote their candidate. In a state that traditionally votes Republican, there are almost no visible signs of a sure win for McCain in the city of Tulsa. Tulsans for Obama believe they are the change they've been waiting for, and now is the time to turn the tides in our state and our country.
So there's a lot of speculation about whether or not Palin will be able to bring in the women's vote - simply because she's a woman.
Personally - I think Democrats are smarter than that and that few - very few - would consider voting for a woman of another party for the sole reason that she is a woman. We tend to vote on issues, the platform.
Can't speak for all women, of course, but a few of my friends were texting me during the Barack Obama's acceptance speech Thursday night. These are all Democrats who supported Hillary in the primary.
Today, as Barack Obama takes to the stage in Denver to deliver a historic address to the over 75,000 people gathered at Invesco Field and accept the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, communities across Michigan will be gathering together at local watch parties to show their support for the Obama-Biden ticket. The hundreds of gatherings present an opportunity to celebrate with family, friends and neighbors and to learn more about Barack Obama’s plans to bring change to our state and our nation. Today also marks the 45th anniversary of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.’s, extraordinary “I Have a Dream” speech. Just as Dr. King looked forward and dreamed of a brighter future, communities across Michigan will be coming together to share their hope for change and a better tomorrow.
Tonight will be a truly historic moment in our history. Sharing the experience with your community and attending a watch party in your neighborhood will make the moment even more extraordinary. We have 322 watch parties across the state.
Find A Watch Party Near You
Hey, how many of you are EXCITED about the watch parties Thursday night? I can't wait to hear Barack's acceptance speech! It's fine to watch him on TV or whatever, but you really have to be in a crowd to get the Barack Obama experience. This campaign has such a current of energy running through it, it is just incredible. I'm going to the one at the new HQ. There's another one at the 14th Street Community Center that we are telling people about in phone banks that I know will also be a great party because Jeannette Langford is hosting it. I think there may be another one, too, but I'm not sure where it is and I think you have to be invited! LOL! The important thing, is, just find one and go. This is a once in a lifetime experience. We are never again going to have another first African American major party candidate for President of the United States. Don't sit on your couch and pass up a chance to be a part of history in the making.
On a personal note...
At this point, the Cincinnati Enquirer is so used to Barack Obama events going on in the area, that their latest article is titled, as if it were a regular installment, "Local Obama Events This Weekend."
And it pretty much is a regular installment. The article lists no less than five events going on this weekend in the Cincinnati area, but a basic search on My.BarackObama.com suggests the real number might be double that. Not to mention the numerous supporters, volunteers, and change-makers who are holding unlisted events--everything from voter registration drives to canvassing to just meeting up and talking about Barack.
Finally, the big enchilada of events this week will surely be the massive watch party in Fountain Square on Monday at 7 pm, where hundreds will gather to hear Barack's comments at the NAACP convention via Jumbo-tron. Click here for more details.
This is a copy of an e-mail sent to the group Sunnyvale for Obama on May 23.
Hello Sunnyvale for Obama!
Our third meeting on May 22 was another huge step forward! We had THREE TIMES AS MANY PEOPLE there this time as at our first meeting on May 4! So we’re growing by leaps and bounds as we work to create real change in Washington, and we made great headway on our action plans.
This e-mail will summarize what happened at the last meeting, but before I get into that, I want to let you know that THE NEXT MEETING is scheduled, as follows:
Date: Thursday, May 29
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Location: Bean Scene café at 186 S. Murphy St. in downtown Sunnyvale. Bean Scene is on the Washington Street end of Murphy Street. Here’s a link to their web site: www.beanscenecafe.com.
At the next meeting, the major items we’ll work on are the tabling details, finding a larger and quieter space for us to meet in, and beginning to develop other action items. The meeting will start promptly at 6:00.
I’m also going to post this e-mail on the Sunnyvale for Obama blog on the group web page at http://my.barackobama.com/page/group/SunnyvaleCitizensforObama. (See item 4 for more info about the blog.)

5. EVENT: Primary watch party June 3 at Britannia Arms in San Jose
I just have to say: Tuesday night was awesome! Before my wife and I headed to an Indiana & North Carolina watch party here in Seattle we heard a message on our answering machine from Bev Scott in North Carolina. The NC results were coming in and she was elated at the triumphant outcome. Bev is a retired elementary school principal and is a hard working Obama supporter who contacted us from the barackobama.com website when she saw we were making buttons for Indiana & North Carolina. Bev lives in Hope Mills, NC and how could we resist the call to send some of our Hope-themed buttons to a place called Hope Mills that were in need of campaign materials?!? With the help of our awesome button-making peer Beth McLennan from Evanston, IL Bev was equipped to distribute volunteer hand-made buttons to the Fayetteville, NC area. You can see photos from NC here:

It is people like Bev that make this campaign so powerful. Her work in NC is laying the foundation that we will need to assure victory in November. Peter Masundire, a fellow delegate, organized the watch party and Peter and I decided we had the opportunity to turn the watch party into a working event. So we bought button supplies, printed tons of sheets of button artwork, and rented and extra button maker and circle cutter from ButtonMakers.net. We had a fantastic turnout and lots of people were excited to help out make buttons and cut out button artwork. Thanks to everyone who helped out. We were able to get over approximately 1100 button circles cut out and a very large amount of buttons made. It was such an exciting night to watch the returns come in and watch the gap between Clinton and Obama shrink and shrink in Indiana, we stayed there much later than I think anyone had anticipated but the end result was that we had more buttons made!
We have photos of the event here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/buttons4obama/sets/72157604946844605/
I am finalizing on locations/people where these buttons are being shipped to. If you are in one of the upcoming primary states and you are canvassing or having events and need Obama buttons please give us a shout.
Good Morning!
Well, it was great to be with my fellow Obama supporters last night! It was great to meet our new friends! I hope to have another gathering soon!
As for last night's results, let's remember that we gained more delegates and are still ahead in that count! We will win out in the end, but we have work to do. Please get busy on the phone bank calls. I've already called 25 people in Wyoming. Senator Obama is expecting to win that state-let's help him out! I am issuing a challenge: Try to call at least 20 people in Wyoming every day until Saturday, March 8th. Let's get busy...Denise
There are currently 247 Watch Parties officially scheduled for tomorrow night -- which means thousands of grassroots supporters will be coming together around the country to eat, drink, be merry and watch the results come in from tomorrow's big elections in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont.
So, quick! Right now you can sign up to host your own party -- at a local bar, restaurant or even your own living room. Tell all your friends and family, and then just click here to set it up so that people in your area can sign up to come to your event.
These parties are a great way to meet other supporters, talk about your ideas and continue to grow this historic grassroots movement -- just ask grassroots volunteer Tobias in Indiana, who we just caught up with on the phone. He's throwing a big Watch Party in downtown Indianapolis -- at a sushi restaurant called Naked Tchopstix. They've already got about 65 RSVPs!
Tobias is an environmentalist -- and he's also a captain in the Army National Guard. He talked to us a bit about why he's gotten involved in the campaign:
"I'm about to deploy to Iraq, and so I'm organizing and volunteering because I want to do something for Barack's campaign before I leave. It's clear that Barack Obama would make an excellent President and Commander in Chief -- and regarding the Iraq War, he has the most reasonable approach of any candidate. He has a practical plan to withdraw that addresses the root causes of problems there, and he's being honest about the fact that we just can't financially afford to stay there.
But most importantly, he carries himself with dignity and respect -- and so much of this war is a war for the hearts and minds of regular civilians. A President that conducts himself the way Obama does will matter enormously."
There are so many different kinds of volunteers working for the campaign -- all with diverse backgrounds, persepctives and thoughts about the issues that face this country.
So make sure to attend, or host, a Watch Party tomorrow night so you can get out there and meet some of the incredible grassroots supporters like Tobias and all the rest of the Indiana crew heading down to Naked Tchopstix tomorrow night.
To all folks interested in helping Senator Obama's campaign in Montana:
Montana's Obama supporters are now officially connected to the Obama campaign!
Last Wednesday evening (Feb. 27) Obama supporters in Montana participated in a conference call with Dan Gabor, the official Montana organizer for the Obama campaign. Dan encouraged folks to hold March 4th Watch Parties (large or small) across the state to get us together for an evening, and to nurture our grassroots. Later in March, Dan is planning to have statewide organizational meetings. And in April there are plans underway for Montana to participate in "a national day of action where we will be canvassing and working the phones, identifying supporters across Montana and across the nation." Here in Helena, we will be holding a watch party from 5 p.m.to 9 p.m. at Bleachers Sports Pub (inside Bert & Ernie's), 361 N. Last Chance Gulch, in downtown Helena. Please join us--and invite others to join us! Please RSVP at http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/4rypp.
