The Morning After the Elections...and the Change We Really Need...
This is a message to those who got behind Barack Obama because they have been horrified and furious with the direction this society has taken over the past eight years. To those who put their deep felt desires for change in the hope that Obama will take society in a different direction.
I skipped lunch at work few times in July so I could donate that money to Barack's campaign. It's not good for me to miss any meals, but this cause is important to me. I received an Obama/Biden magnet in late August - I loved it. I proudly put it on my car... I even left it on to visit my father in Virginia! (one of the days I was visiting him, I went to a craft fair that was sponsored by their local Republican office. I never took my magnet off!)The magnet survived the entire Virginia trip intact, which amazed me due to the heavy Republican contingent there. Today, I left my apartment and headed to my car, but immediately noticed a lack of my magnet. I don't know if it was swiped at the Park and Ride I use, or perhaps on the street by my apartment. While I'm sad that I'm now without a magnet, I can only hope that it was taken by another supporter who maybe can't afford a magnet of their own, but still want to show their pride for Obama. I can't bear to think that someone would have taken it just to try and tear this movement down, even just a bit. Forgive me if this post was badly written/has spelling/grammar errors - I just worked a very stressful 11-hour shift, and I'm a bit off my game.
Just listened in to McCain's new speech. I have to say, it is impressive. But wait, where do I know this stuff from? "We make our own destiny" and: "You" (the voters) have to make the decision, and: "Lets win this election and we can change the country" - and there was some echo to this last one in my mind: "and we will change the world"
Ah, now I know: It is not exactly the same phrasing but the general tone and meaning are exactly Barack Obama's words. The stuff he finishes almost every speech with. McCain - or his speech-makers - took Obama's speech, modified it, put some typical McCain-stuff in there (prison in VietNam and some other stuff), adapted it to the fact that McCain is behind in the polls - and ready was the new speech.
In fact, the only original words are - tell me news! - the bits where McCain tries to atack Obama: "He is already measuring the drapes, planning with Pelosy and Paulson how to raise taxes ..." So, here is some new(ish) stuff.
The ultimate cheek was to say that "They (us, the Obama-types) have forgotten to let YOU (the people) decide. Well, there is the problem: The elefant-people have forgotten how it feels not to have the majority behind you. Of course, the partisan crowd cheers when McCain insinuates they would be the ones to decide...
However, all this goes onnly to show that it really is not over yet: On the GOP-Congress, McCain managed to turn public opinion around by pretending he and his running mates were people of change. Even as obviously stolen from Obama as it was, the stuff helt for a while before Palin became a national embarrassment. This time the copy isn't so obvious. Even I needed a while to get it and as yet no blogger or newspaper I know has uncovered this. So: watch out and tell people how much of McCain's new speech is stolen from Obama. And the rest is not true or old news (McCain, the fighter who is best in a tight corner ... - yawn). But point it out to people. Otherwise some may be turned by McCain!
Ah, and: Mr. Obama, would you please mention this in your speeches as well and turn it round and tell people that YOU are the original and McCain is only a really bad copy?!
And lastly: I am so happy that "our" guy doesn't need a seemingly young wife standing behind him and noding debilely at every statement her hubby makes. Michelle goes around making her own speeches. This is what we need!

Scottdale, PA - The sign I made for my yard last week was stolen while I was on a trip to NYC, and my wife's flower bushes were trashed. I had gotten this news from my wife, and it really worried me that someone would be back to do some more damage. You see, like in my earlier post about making the Obama sign, there was a shortage of signs, so I made my own and set it near the road-- We would put it back near our porch at night--
So who stole it and why? Did they just like it so much they wanted it for their yard? Was it an angry Hillary supportor, or one of the closeted bigoted-close-minded ignorant fools who live around here? Maybe someone just stole it for the wood?
One things for sure... first thing I did when I got home... I made ANOTHER sign and put it out. A day before the election, I think it's needed. As I was painting the sign, my wife said she was worried that someone would come back and damage our property... but I said I wasn't afraid of that. My soul is pretty damn resiliant, and I know that CHANGE cannot be stopped, stolen or stalled. -- I told me wife, that Karma would likely catch up to those who stole it...
I believe they stole it to silence my freedom of speech and expression. To silence my HOPE for change in Pennyslvania and in American politics. They thought they'd take away my sign that everyone could read... but I painted another one. And if they steal it, I'll paint another one... and another one and on and on. But back that karma statement.... I told my wife, if you do wrong, it comes back on you tenfold. That's what my old irish Grandmother Laugherty told me when I was a wee kid... And sure enough.... while once there were on Obama signs in Scottdale, we took a ride around the block and the day after our sign was stolen, there were multiple signs all through Scottdale--- and in the main entry to Scottdale there were 10 signs in a row long a nice stretch of welcoming grass.
You can't stop this message... and when you do, it will multiply it even more. I think about the person who stole that big heavy sign, only to see 30 smaller ones pop up the next day.
Vote tomorrow for change in Pennsylvania!
Obama, let me be frank. What steps are you taking to make sure the 2008 election isn't manipulated and stolen? Why isn't there enough discussion regarding these "caging" lists? We can support you all we want, but if there's another force dictating whose votes count and whose don't, how are we to deal with that?
