Arabism - Racism virus spreading in... VenezuelaSo... is Hugo Chavez "arab" enough now?---From a 2000-2001 Report of Antisemitism And Racism, Responses to the intifada in the media, in wall graffiti and by Arab organizations in Venezuela such as FEARAB (Arab Federation for Latin America) were directed at de-legitimizing the State of Israel, which was accused of causing the Palestinian tragedy. The radical language used against Israel was not infrequently antisemitic, for example, the comparison of Israeli soldiers with Nazis *.In January 2009, Venezuela expelled Israeli ambassador over Gaza, due to influence by Chavez's government's Justice Minister Tarek El Aissami, who is of Arab descent * and a sizable population of Arab descent, hundreds of people who marched against Israel * (at Israel's anti terror operation of cast lead * *, Descendants of Arabs thriving in S. What Obama and this country’s financial leaders of this country don’t seem to understand is that simply bailing it out doesn’t fix the hole. How does giving a few people temporary jobs help solve the problem? By temporary I mean that hopefully it will not require 30 years to fix and build all of the infrastructure we need.
But let us say that some how, I don’t know where, the government comes up with money to pay for all of these projects. The money is sent to the state. The states allot the required amounts to the contractors. This goes into the payroll of the various businesses. The question they have to ask is, “then where does it go?” A good guess would be to look at who make up the top retailers in the country. Wal-Mart, Home Depot, CVS, Kroger, Costco, Target, Walgreen, Sears/ K-mart, Lowe’s, and Super Value make up the top 10. Next quantify what percentage of their gross income ends up being sent outside of the economy. How much of that local income is spent on paying low wages to people that are forced to shop at these chains and deliver even more money outside of the economy. What you see is that in very few turns of the original capital, almost all of the invested money is no longer circulating through the US economy. That leads us right back to where we are today.
How are any of these suggestions going to stop capital from going outside the economy. We are drowning in debt. That is a fact that is true from the individual family, through all branches of business and government, and ends on the capital steps. Is there anybody in Washington that really understands how we ended up here?

This year protesters commemorating a massacre may feel so jubilant that keeping a straight face for a vigil could be a challenge.

As they again mark the anniversary of the Nov. 16, 1989, killings of six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper and her teenage daughter - gunned down by El Salvadoran soldiers, most of whom had attended what was then known as the School of the Americas - those protesting what's now called the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation will have something else in mind: Hope, and change.
They hope the Nov. 4 election will so change Congress that it closes the institute.
"The members of Congress who in the past voted for the School of the Americas, to keep it open, they lost their seats on Nov. 4," said Eric LeCompte of SOA Watch, the group that has protested the training institute at Fort Benning since 1990. "The last time we had a vote for funding cuts, we lost by six votes. We've had a 30-vote turnover."
He can't claim mission accomplished, but he's hopeful: "I would call it guarded optimism," he said Tuesday....

School of the Americas Watch--Shutting Down The Torture/Terror Factory
by: Paul Rosenberg @ openleft.com
This weekend marks the 19th Annual vigil to close the School of the Americas (SOA/WHINSEC) in Fort Benning, Georgia. School of the Americas Watch (SOA Watch) is the organization founded by Maryknoll priest Father Ray Bourgois, a Navy Vietnam Veteran who resolved to dedicate his life to peace and justice in service to God. Every year since 1990, he has lead protests in Fort Benning, Georgia just before Thanksgiving, to bring pressure and attention to bear on the training ground where a large number of Latin American military torturers and terrorists have been trained. Because of pressure brought by SOA Watch, the School of the Americas was symbolically shut down in 2001, and immediately reopened as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), but activists continue to refer to it by its orgiinal name, as nothing essential has changed.
This year is further complicated by the fact that Bourgois faces excommunication for supporting the ordination of women priests.......

Lu Gronseth listens regularly to WWTC, a conservative talk-radio station in Minneapolis, and even advertises his mortgage-loan business on the station. But when he learned that a nationally syndicated radio show host had told WWTC listeners that Muslims should be deported and made rude comments about what they could do with their religion, Mr. Gronseth pulled his ads from the station.
So have at least two other Minnesota businesses, at the urging of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington, D.C., as have a handful of national companies, including OfficeMax, JCPenney, Wal-Mart, and AT&T. But the comments by host Michael Savage in October – and previous anti-Muslim speech – have not created the furor that knocked radio icon Don Imus off of MSNBC and CBS Radio after he denigrated a black women's basketball team. That leaves many Muslims-Americans – and non-Muslims like Mr. Gronseth – suspicious that Americans have a double standard when it comes to Islam.
Have you seen the news? President Bush is negotiating a deal with Iraq to keep our troops there indefinitely--it could include permanent bases and a massive military presence for years! Bush is trying to tie the hands of the next president.
Congress can stop him from setting up permanent bases in Iraq and block an indefinite occupation--but they need to hear a groundswell of pressure from us immediately and loudly so they act on this quickly.
I just signed a petition demanding that Congress stop the president from committing to a massive military presence in Iraq for decades. Can you join me?
