I am alone. I just want to know what it is that I can’t seem to get right. I cannot make a relationship work. Love, to me, is stepping out from the bushes into the most beautiful view you have ever seen, only to find out you have stepped off the edge of a cliff and are now plunging to your imminent demise.
I live, I love, yet I am alone. I seek, I find, yet I am alone. I struggle on without shame or pity; the world’s problems are far bigger than anything I could burden them with, yet I am alone.
I do not choose to be alone. I flirt, and engage. Yet I rarely get a response. Then, once in a while, I do get a response. And it fills my soul with a passion not rivaled by Mars. I push it further; perhaps I don’t push it far enough. But I expect a self-respecting woman to put in her fair share of the work.
Something happens every time that I cannot explain. I recognize it, yet I can’t make out it what it is. I try to stop it, yet I know it can’t be stopped. The Great Cosmic Reality offers no protection against this rampaging demon.
What is this love they tell me about? What is this fairy tale that is the true leading cause of divorce? How do I combat its evil, destructive power? What can I do to make them realize the power of true, lasting love? Monogamy is a fraud to all but the hopeless.
I still believe in the noble qualities; honesty, fairness, willingness to confront and overcome one’s demons, trust, empowerment, sacrifice, generosity. But they don’t seem to impress anyone.
Do I expect too much? I don’t expect anything. I hope for the best. But, after a fortnight or two, she always comes to realize she doesn’t want to be with me. Why? What have I done to be burdened by this curse?
I am alone and for strength I give my love to the world.

DEMOCRAT BY NECESSITY
I'm in total support for electing Barack Obama and Joe Biden. I've already voted for them at my home in Illinois. There is an open seat in my Congressional district (17th Illinois) and I've donated to and am working for Colleen Callahan, the Democratic contender for this office. I donated money to Elwin Tinklenberg in Minnesota after I heard the divisive bile spewed by his Republican opponent, Michelle Bachman.
My god! I've become a Democrat!
I've thought of myself as a non-partisan patriot in the past, but I now realize that with the archaic Electoral College system in place, we have a two-party system in the U.S. Third party candidates can virtually never be viable until we elect the President by popular vote. I doubt that I'll live to see that, even if it eventually happens.
SPREAD THE PROSPERITY NOT WEALTH
I heard Barack respond to "Joe the Partisan Shill" the other day and he used the term "spread the wealth around". This remark was twisted into 're-distribute the wealth' (which is what the Bailout did, what Social Security does, what taxes of any sort do), but the context of the conversation was really that Barack is in favor of 'spreading the prosperity' and seeing that everyone gets some piece of the pie. As it is, we are a social democracy and we don't agree that people should starve because they have been hurt by tough economic times.
"A return to prosperity" for all Americans. Does anyone really oppose that?
More about this later.
PREFACE
This is my first blog. I suspect just correcting mistakes, maintaining and refining ideas will keep me busy for a long time. Feel free to contribute.
I just came back from a family gathering in Wisconsin where there were only four, known, non-republicans - myself, my wife, a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law. I know many of my in-laws voted for Hillary in the primary because they felt she would be easier to beat. I don't want to say anything negative yet. If we can't work this out amongst ourselves, we won't be able to change the way the world views us.
Did you know that some republican voters have been led to believe that Warren Buffet is a bad guy? That he is profiting from the bailout?
Well, that's what the GOP rumor mill is circulating and of course, that he along with Obama's other economic advisory team are all profiting from the bailout. I didn't have to time to gently dig into how she gets her news, I will collect the necessary information and try to be as nurturing as possible.
I know squat about Warren Buffet, but what I've found so far didn't seem evil, not like rove or cheney. I have always liked Robert Reich.

MY KEY BULLETS FOR THE FUTURE
This is an exciting time for change. Everything we can implement in the first year - that has the potential to open up the public's eyes to the power of positive and optimistic thinking - should be done - and this should start with idea seeds that are planted by Barack and nurtured through the positive use of "marketing," regular adverts or mini-lessons in how we can implement change - on TV, radio and the 'net. If all Lobbbyist monies could be re-directed in this positive way, our country could increase the rate of change that is so desparately needed.
RE-BUILDING THE MIDDLE CLASS: People who have been on the sidelines of the economic boom years see the disparity between unsustainable "wealth" and just getting by - what they've been doing all along. Making obscene amounts of money at the expense of a sustainable economy should have us ALL taking a closer look at the "disenfranchised sideliners," one of whom is ME, and everyone else in the country who works hard at a craft while wondering what it is that people do to make such stupid amounts of money. I don't want the money - I just want "balance." In too many cases, money for the sake a money is what's bankrupting and dividing our country.
PEACE MAKERS: There are a core group of well-intentioned Republican voters who have been grossly misinformed on the issues. And, hard as it is to be calm and collected when communicating with them about "passionate" issues - starting with how they (don't) think or where they get their (mis) information - we need to reach these people first. We have much more in common - passion being one item that will make our job challenging.
IDEAS WELCOME: I'm no economist, these are just my THINKING OUT LOUD ideas.
Barack is representing us against the rich and powerful.
He needs each and every small contribution we can send, to fight for us.
But I have noticed that when you try to send a donation, there is no space for your feedback.
That is why I am inviting you to donate now and send a message with your donation.
Please help us motivate our Leader in this time of crisis, giving as much or as little as we can.
Don't forget the fat cats trying to steal this election, as they have done it before.
I'm currently a writer for the Beachcomber Newspaper, a local newspaper for the greater Long Beach area. This article was written by a fellow writer for the Beachcomber, Les Robbins. Pretty much sums it up.
Mad as Heck at the Darn Republicans
I have been involved in politics in one way or another for the past 35 years. I have observed many fascinating developments in the world of politics but watching the John McCain acceptance speech at the conclusion of the Republican Convention just about tops them all.I watched a guy who has voted with President Bush and the rest of the Republican Party leadership in excess of 90 percent of the time during the past eight years try to virtually divorce himself from this president and from six and a half of the last eight years of Republican dominance in Congress. Absolutely unbelievable.I have to hand it to those who crafted his speech and who have obviously taken the tack that John McCain is somehow not responsible for anything that he or his party did. Not a coincidence was the fact that there were no “Bushies” in attendance. It was no coincidence that “tricky” Dick Cheney, the real president, was nowhere to be found either! It boggles my mind that the Republicans could even begin to be so arrogant as to believe the garbage that they are currently trying to communicate to the American people. Barack Obama hit the proverbial nail on the head when he told voters in Pennsylvania this past week that the McCain folks really do believe that Americans are stupid. This past week everyone — Republicans included — have been trying to figure out just who Sarah Palin is. They really pulled the proverbial rabbit out of the hat on their choice for vice president. They take a lady who has less than 18 months experience as the governor of a state two times the size of Texas with a population just a little larger than Long Beach whose only previous governmental experience was six years as the Mayor of Wasilla, a town of some 6,000 (in the summer months) and try to tell the American people that this lady is qualified to be the person who is just a heartbeat away from being the most powerful person in the free world? Unbelievable! I have traveled to Alaska more than 50 times in the past 20 years. I love the state dearly because of its unparalleled beauty and because of the very simple lifestyles found there. The issues that they deal with in Alaska pale in comparison with the issues that must be dealt with daily in Washington D.C.Hell, the city of Long Beach has a more complicated type of government than does Alaska. To try to equate the skills, experience, educational levels, and knowledge that is required to be a local or even a statewide elected official in Alaska to that of the presidency of the entire United States is a damned joke! The biggest thing that happens in Alaska in the winter aside from the Iditarod Sled Dog Race is counting the number of moose who are killed on the roadways by vehicles. Summers are a little bit more interesting, but life in Alaska is very simple in comparison with that found in virtually 95 percent of the rest of this country. Remember this is a state in which 98 percent of its total acreage is uninhabited by human beings. The dumbing down of the American electorate is something that the Republican political machine has done very effectively in this country for the past eight years. The selection of Governor Palin as the VP nominee is just one more example of the degree of contempt that the Republican political consultants who are running this campaign have for the average voter. The transfer of wealth in this country from the middle class to the ultra-wealthy is unprecedented in American history. Billionaires have increased a hundred fold, while the middle classes are being obliterated. Yes, there are those who have done very well under the Bush Administration’s leadership and policies. When I examine the platform of the Republican Party I see very little that will improve the quality of life in this country for those who work for a living. I see very little that will make seniors feel secure in retirement. I see nothing that calls for dealing with the environment, jobs, health care, the housing crisis, Medicare and Social Security. Instead they talk about continuing the War in Iraq, no matter what the cost. Instead they talk about abortion, more oil drilling and, oh yeah, family values. How old is Governor Palin’s pregnant, unmarried daughter? Oh, and let’s not forget that we all know that the only party that can protect us from Al Qaeda is the Republican Party. Exxon-Mobil and all of the other oil companies have made hundreds of billion in profit. Unemployment is up, spendable income is down, the number of uninsured is up, and the housing and mortgage situation in this is a total wreck. For John McCain to stand before the American people and tell them to trust him to turn things is nothing short of a huge insult to the intelligence of the average American.Asking John McCain to trust him and his party’s leadership and political platform is like believing that the oil companies will actually begin to do something about finding alternative energy sources. The current vice president, Dick Cheney, came to the White House from the board room of Haliburton, and Sarah Palin would ask you to put her there when she comes from a state that is virtually controlled by big oil.
It amazes me how the Bush administration has made lying the norm - a strategy McCain and Palin have adopted aggressively.
Do they think aggressive dishonesty will satisfy our hard-hearted cynicism, and capture our votes? Do lying politicians appeal to our sense of reality and pragmatism?

When I watched the Republican Convention I was struck by the fact that everyone in the audience was white. How could this be, I wondered. When I look around my neighborhood, when I go to my office, when I go to the movies, out to dinner, read the paper, I see a wide range of colors. The America I see is not white. The America I want is not white.
The world has changed and the Republicans refuse to admit it.
Obama is the realization of the change - not just in his platform, but in who he is.
Yesterday, McCain's daughter appeared on THE VIEW and chatted with the women. She stated her dad still sings "Under The Sea" from The Little Mermaid to Her.
THEN, the big news!!! If McCain is elected, she plains a White House reality show. What goes on in the White House Everyday. Has this passed security? Does America want the White House to become a stage set. If you exposed all White House workers, is there a greater chance of terrorism or "blackmail?'
For those who don't know, the McCains are very close to Heidi, the girl on the reality show,"The Hills." So McCain's daughter has the connections to do a reality show. The daughter also wants to do tell-all books about the people behind the scenes of her father's campaign. I know Pelosi's daughter did one previously. This is interesting news and a warning of "no confidentiality."
Wow, I can't believe in this day and age that folks are still so racially prejudice. It makes it hard for people of color to move freely around the country when white woman like Sarah Palin view the world in a glass house. John McCain who grew up in a racist environment which gave him a reason to vote against MLK's holiday, minimum wage increases and relief for woman who suffer domestic violence.
It is getting a little tiresome to constantly hear about McCain's military exploits in which he was a failure crashing jet's and getting caught by the enemy. He should be embarrassed by being exposed as a hero when he did no more than any other vet in which the military wasn't even allowing minorities in the field of aviation but stuck on the ground as infantry soldiers.
Now what is the truth? McCain voted 90% w/Bush or not and why hasn't Obama's high echelon staff consistently getting out McCain's negative voting record in there ad's in swing states and amongst the blue collar worker's states.
I am getting very disappointed because I've been going door to door and generated many registration applications. This campaign needs to let us know that they're using all the resources they have to combat the RNC. The RNC acted like a bunch of school age children and showed they have a very bad dislike for minorities and urbanites.
Sarah Palin did what she was suppose to do read the script and act the part. It is funny how the RNC is so excited about what was one of the most illiterate speeches any politician could have written. What made it popular was the play on the "Great White Hope" against the Black Champion once again. The RNC would like to see things turn out like "To Kill A Mockingbird," with a innocent decent man lynched because of the vile lies from a trashy woman.
Now the march to freedom and equality for all men will continue with Obama not McCain. McCain's views on reaching out to the minorities has all but dwindled due to his disrespectful VP pick. Did anyone interview the Native Alaskans and get their views on Palin or are we only going to hear from the usual focused group middle aged and late are Caucasians.
Now we got a lot of intelligent superior writers, that submit great writings to this blog and I admire them immensely. Unless layman and common men and women are recognized for their opinion's in the media instead of all educated professional individuals who seem to be the only voice for the common man voters would succumb to the truth.
I know that with faith, we will work hard for our cause, but common sense needs to be used in order for Obama to win an election in a racial prejudice society.
Well, my wife and I watched some of the Republican convention. One cannot know one's opponents unless one gives them the time to listen to their, um, spiel. Mrs. Palin comported herself well. Clearly she's used to making speeches and has been surrounded by 'spinmeisters' schooled in the traditions of Joseph Goebbels and the "big lie." Rudy Giuliani warmed the crowd up like some preening rooster getting all the hens agitated and excited.
The most obvious difference between the Democratic and Republican conventions aside from their different political views was just how almost perfectly lilly-white, like the Alaskan snow, the convention members are! Must be like the purity of Ivory Soap, 99 and 44/100ths percent! Also the average age of the attendees, as well as the average income, must be far greater than the prior Democratic convention. For the party to be claiming to represent 'all' Americans, they are lacking in representation of large segements of the population. Out of sight and out of mind seems to be how they operate.
Hanging over the convention like a palpable gloom is the weight of the incompetence of the last seven years of the Bush administration. Neither Giuliani nor Palin wanted to deal with that 800 lb gorilla. For all their talk of "change" my near constant question back to the set was "if your party didn't screw things up so badly we wouldn't need all this change, now, would we?" "If your party hadn't launched this misadventure into Iraq, Osama bin Laden would have faced justice by now, instead of being allowed to reconstitute Al Qaeda to live to fight another day."
And the mantra of "Drill, Baby, Drill" which one pundit likened to having the potential to enter [God forbid] the American lexicon like "I Like Ike" to me shows that these people are living in a parallel universe where denial is the truth and conformity a requirement. A universe where American power is not tempered as a last resort through use of diplomacy first. The number of Western style "cowboy" hats is indicative of the mentality of that parallel universe. Every individual for him or herself, society be damned. Darwinian social evolution at it's finest, though couched in a creationist rhetoric, lest their phobias be too blatant to ignore.
Be afraid. Be VERY Afraid.
And make sure that Barack Obama and Joe Biden are elected this Fall. They may live in their parallel universe. But I prefer the real world. Our seven year trip into their twilight zone's coming to an end, time to return to the reality channel we love and know, the United States of America, for all of the people, all of the time, not just some of the people some of the time.
