As you all probably know,
Barack Obama and family have recently joined the competition to host the 2016 summer Olympics. Sadly we are disappointed that we have been eliminated from the competition. The presidential family was planning on hosting this big event in Chicago, Illinois. Michelle Obama says "Chicago is such a great place with wonderful people". Now we will watch the Olympics of 2016 take place in either Madrid, or Rio DeGinario!
Your Friend,
Erin
I had a feeling that Chicago will not win the Olympic selection. President Obama, Mayer Daley and his team had tried very hard but all the odds were against them. Our previous Bush era government had done great damage to our relationship with the international community and it will not be easy to win them over the first year. It will take us a long time and a long hard effort on our part to establish better relationship. We should not repeat the same mistakes again. World is watching us, It is time to work with the entire international communities and not just the few. Last UN Summit did not help us either it seems like that the same old handful of world powers were trying to dictate to the rest of the world. Let’s change course now, otherwise we may be left alone. It is time to make each and every country our allies.
President Obama will advocate for the Olympics in Chicago, and that is good as long as he make some effort to insure that any financial assistance that the federal government offers, is counter balanced with some benefit to the people Daley is disadvantaging in the process.
The proposed site whichDaley hopes to transform into a world class location, is in the footprint of a concrete jungle gym in which he sowed the seeds of discouragement in the neighborhood children by tolerating poor quality education, lack of opportunity and maintaining social isolation in exchange for his fiefdom. He recently dispersed this dysfunction like a plague throughout the greater south side of Chicago where the fruits of his labor results in murders of school children. It is ironic to me that Daley wants the Olympics, the epitome of athletic achievement yet for 20 years has been party to starving the south side of Chicago of recreational facilities where children could develop their athletic skill, maintain health, learn discipline, be safe, have fun, and most of all be children.
I was still shocked to learn that Canada slaughters hundreds of thousands of innocent seals for their fur every year. These animals, often babies who are just weeks old, have their skulls smashed in or are shot. Then they are skinned for their fur - often while they are still conscious. How can we still let this happen! As a American sports enthusiast, I cannot support the games in all honestly if this continues to go unnoticed. It's just like in China, where I learn the hundreds of thousands of innocent cats and dogs were and perhaps still being slaughers for their fur. Just like the "Wild Mustang Horses" http://www.wildhorserescue.org/, Example: Illinois bill threatens to re-0pen horse slaughter plant! http://www.wildmustangcoalition.org/id15.htmlAll eyes are on Canada, (I hope you are Pres. Obama) as it prepares to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. Please help end the seal slaughter immediately so that the reputation of the Vancouver Olympic Games won't be tarnished.
Thanks
This week the current Administration finally released loan money for GM and Chrysler. That is the good news. The bad news is that those same companies will continue layoffs and plant closings and new plants will be delayed here in North America.
We are in a downward spiral between jobs and profits. The more profits that companies want to make the more people they layoff the more the crackpot geniuses of Wall Street call for ever more profits at any cost. As Henry Ford is known to have said "I need to pay people a wage so that they can buy the cars I produce" (okay not the exact quote). Thus, we need a major re-industrialization program here in the US.
Pres-Elect Obama and his team are talking about hundreds of billions of dollars to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and new jobs in green technology. The key here is that the goods need to be made here in this country and we need to export high value goods. I agree that we need to rebuild our infrastructure but borrowing hundreds of Billions of Dollars from China and the rest of the world for concrete and steel will not solve the problem. We need to export goods and import non-borrowed dollars which will drive down our balance of payments and allow us to payoff our collective 10 Trillion Dollar deficit.
To that end, I have my own ideas about how to re-industrialize this country. It is along the same lines as what has been said but with a slight twist. Here goes, what follows is a letter (that has been updated) I sent to the campaign in Sept.

Athletes train for months to compete in the World Olympics. Many of the winners of the events "visualized" in their minds their winning victories. They imagined winning, and feeling the triumphs when they are given the gold or silver medals. The hidden subconscious part of the mind cannot tell the difference between what is real or what is imagined. If the mind is trained to accept a victory often enough, even though it is not a present reality.. it SOON will be the new REAL reality!
<BR>
We must all imagine and visually see the Victory of Obama, and SEE in our minds Obama being sworn in as the new President of the United States. If enough of US see this in our minds, and pray for Obama's Victory... it WILL happen!! There is POWER in Prayer. There is POWER in Visualizing a goal! We don't just wish and hope that Obama becomes president, we have Faith and believe that Obama WILL be president. It is just a matter of time..... and the day when he is officially sworn in.
Do You have Faith and Belief? We should all give our full support to Obama, and pray for his victory EVERY day. We should visually see in our minds that Obama is President of the USA EVERY day! We pray that Obama wins because he is the best man for the Job of President, and is a man of great moral integrity and great character. Obama is the Hope America has been waiting for...

Hello, sports fans. As we near the end of our quadrennial games, let’s take a look back at how we got to where we are now: The Titan Who Fell - Hillary Clinton: Perhaps the victim of her own hype, the former First Lady crashed in a big way in the primary round in the most anticipated event of these games- the quest for the White House. As of late 2006, just after Team Democrat had taken gold in Senate races, House races, and gubernatorial races alike, pundits across the country were ready to place the gold medal around Clinton’s neck. But Clinton failed to achieve what had been a “sure win,” forcing her to settle for silver in the presidential event. When it came time for the vice presidential race, many of Clinton’s fans remained behind her. However, the down-and-dirty strategy that she displayed in the presidential race cost her some serious ground in the latter event, effectively ruling her out of the following qualifying rounds for the vice presidency. Disqualified for Foul Play - John Edwards: Every four years, hearts are broken around the world when we find out that our heroes don’t pass the requisite tests prior to competition. Sometimes, it’s doping and steroids. Other times, it’s a different kind of cheating. The race for the presidency requires that candidates not only refrain from performance enhancers (i.e., illegal campaign contributions, etc), but also that they maintain a history of ethics and integrity commensurate with the prestige of these games. And if you can’t meet the requirements for the presidential event, it’s not likely that you’ll fare too well in the vice presidential race, either. Like Mom always said, cheaters never prosper…especially if it is on your wife while she’s battling cancer. Playing for the Wrong Team - Michael Bloomberg and Chuck Hagel: For most of his life, Mike Bloomberg was on Team Democrat. But when the qualifying race (primary) for the New York Mayoral race looked a little crowded, Bloomberg switched to Team Republican, despite remaining a Democrat at heart. Now, he’s on a team of his own (Team Independent). Technically, that made him a contender for the vice presidential event. But in the long, storied history of these games, never has an Independent joined the national ticket of a Democratic presidential gold medal winner. And while Republican Chuck Hagel might similarly have seemed like a good idea, you can bet that if it’s tough for an Independent to win gold here, it’s damn near impossible for a member of Team GOP.Click on the link to see the rest of the VP contenders... :OD

The 1972 massacre is by far the worst case of violence in Olympic history since the modern games began in 1896, and one of the most notorious cases of terrorism on record.
It was not the only obscenity of the Games.
As two Israelis lay dead and nine Israeli hostages were fighting for their lives in the Olympic Village, competition went on in 11 of the 22 sports on the program, including canoeing and wrestling. “Anyway,” went a dark joke coursing through the Village, “these are professional killers. Avery doesn’t recognize them.” It would not be until 4 p.m. that Brundage reversed his decision. A memorial service for the Israelis was held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 6 in the 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium.

Why Every American Should Care About China
The Emerging Superpower Is Forging Relationships Where the U.S. Isn't By BOB WOODRUFF, GABRIELLE TENENBAUM, SUSAN SCHAEFER and MEENA HARTENSTEINAug. 6, 2008
When the Olympics begin Friday in Beijing it will be a "coming out" party of sorts for China.
Beijing hopes this will be a bright spot in what has otherwise been a tough year -- the country was hit by a devastating earthquake and rocked by scandals over tainted food and medicine and toxic toys.
There have been protests, both within China and in other countries, about its human rights policies in Tibet and Darfur.
Even the Olympic torch relay, normally a celebratory event, sparked demonstrations around the world.
Now billions of eyes will be focused on a nation that has become so important to so many, yet remains misunderstood. Many people, perhaps most vocally in the United States, fear China's growing power and influence around the world. But it is unavoidable.
"The rise of China is the single most important geopolitical event of the 21st century," said John Thornton, professor and director of Global Leadership at Tsingua University in Beijing. "And the implications of that rise are enormous."
Abraham Lincoln put it best, "A house divided against itself cannot stand,"
McSame, fundamentalists, neocons, and the right in general know better than to bring up the ReDubyaKin party faults and weeknesses so close to the general election. They must be ROTFLTS (rolling on the floor laughing themselves sick) every time their agents or one of us posts a message to our mail lists and blogs that criticizes the Democrats for not being strong enough on a particular issue.
PUMA! Do you care what happens to the USA? Then it's time to unite and support Obama! The Clintons have released their delegates for the good of the party and the country. You do yourselves a disservice by demands that can not be labeled as anything but sore-loser mentality. If you want a woman president anytime in the next 12 years, then please don't alienate the rest of us!
Single-issue supporters: when you criticize the party or Obama this late in the game, you increase the possibility that more McSame. Is that what you really want?
If you've watched any of the Olympic TV candy, then you've seen the value of being a team player. Don't let the ReDubyaKins beat us!

I celebrated my father (no longer with us) and Barack's 4 August birthday by playing an Obama campaign song and a birthday song on the half-past the hours today on my Intenet station (my father passed his love of Jazz to his children, but KCUF is eclectic) in addtion to continuing to play a campaign song at the top of every hour until after the election, http://www.urdomain.us/playing.html

Do you think Russia should still host the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi, only 25 miles from Abkhazia, the second (South Ossetia is the fprimary location of this new war) break-away part of Georgia?
Whatever the facts of the war between Russia and Georgia, I am appalled that Russia chose the opening day of the Beijing Summer Olympics to start a hot war, violating every principle of the Olympics, where sport brings the world together for a few days, and hot conflicts are not started.
It is a relief to be able to look forward to Vancouver 2010 and London 2012. But Sochi in 2014? Somehow, the IOC should find the steel to reverse the decision made last year to Sochi, and ask Norway to host the 2014 Winter Games in Lillehammer. Remember how lovely it was to be in Norway in 1994? Do we really want to encourage a Winter Olympics in what could be an endless war zone?
Congratulations to California swimmers Jason Lesak and Dara Torres for remarkable swimming in the Men's 4 x 100 and Women's 4 x 100 freestyle relays, respectively. Dara Torres is 41, the oldest woman to ever win an Olympic swimming medal. This is her fifth Olympics and ninth medal. Torres says: "The water doesn’t know what age you are.’’
Congratulations also to David Kostelecky of the Czech Republic for fabulous trap shooting. Nice to see a shotgun put to such good use.
China's display of its people on Friday informed the world that China is a formidible world player. It massive population and technological skills let us know that in the future war is not the way to go.
The U.S. owes China trillions of dollars. China built and controls most American computers.
We need a leader who is strong-minded, able to communicate effectively and collaborate without threats of violence or war.
McCain focuses mostly on war and past war efforts.
OBAMA is continuously meeting, collaborating, discussing and negotiating with those of other opinions.Like-minded countries need to bond and we don't need a "leader" who wants to continually criticize the French, as McCain does.
The right way to work with China needs evolve, but McCain's quick temper and foul language is surely not the way to go.
PLEASE VOTE FOR OBAMA.
...
The opening ceremony today of the Olympic Games in Beijing was an awe-inspiring display of the extraordinary achievements mankind can accomplish when the desire for it is deep enough. For a hundred years China has longed to be a part of the world, to be seen as an equal among the powers of Europe and the Americas. But as the giant nation has been unwilling to accept the rules the other powers had laid out, our views on human rights, on labor laws and democracy, China’s isolation seemed unbreakable.
But time changes and the world changed with it. As China grew, so did the dream. Eight years ago this dream began to take form and today they were realized. The world watched intently as China invested billions on transforming itself, merging its history with the expectations of the future. This ancient nation had a lot to show off, both of historic achievements and of the astonishing evolution the country has gone through the past few decades, and did so with an unapologetic and unabashed pride.
The number eight in Chinese apparently sounds a lot like the word rich, making this day an especially lucky day for the Chinese. Not so for the people of Georgia though.
When I was a kid, one of the afternoon programs we'd watch was ABC-TV's Wide World of Sports. I mention that in particular for a couple of reasons. The timeliness of the Olympics starting today seemed a reasonable excuse, also the memory of the late Jim McKay as reporter for the Munich 1972 games... Some things in history might well be worth repeating, others, not so much.
In particular was McKay's opening narration of the TV program reflecting on "...the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat." What bodes the prognostication of the posting is the still open question "What does Hillary want?" Sherlock Holmes might well remind us that "the game is still afoot, Watson." I've mentioned before how I'm a Yogi Berra follower, "it ain't over 'til it's over." And it ain't over yet.
These calls for full vote of both Michigan and Florida are good in one sense, allowing the residents of those states input into the process, which is a good thing. On the other hand, if they are allowed full votes, why bother to have a staggered primary system at all if states will shift their appointment on the calendar without consequence? One might as well just envision a national primary then a national election, end of the process. Such would save millions in cost and a lot of people's time too! The still open question "What does Hillary want?"
NY Times columnist David Brooks raised an interesting essay regarding why aren't Democrats much more ahead in the polls then they are when it seems that their presumptive nominee is leading them instead to a valid question: Where's the Landslide? By casting Senator Obama as a "Sojourner," he feels that Obama reflects everything that people want to see, but he himself is only using wherever he is to further his own progression. My reaction to his piece is taken from the assumed name of a 19th Century former slave and early feminist, "What is your Truth, Sojourner?" The still open question "What does Hillary want?"
Mrs. Clinton may be acting the part of the valiant warrior defeated, but just as Vito Corleone made a peace with his rival Mafia chieftains in The Godfather we know it was only a delaying tactic and that Michael would later restore the Family honor, and respect. Thus her official stance is one thing, but I don't think it an unreasonable speculation to suggest that this Convention may have as many fireworks in storage to go off as they've shot off for the opening of the Olympics in Beijing. The still open question "What does Hillary want?"
"Madame President." Plain and simple.
So if the Convention is going to serve in the capacity of Michael Corleone we may well indeed witness "...the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat." The question is, for whom?
BLACKS BANNED FROM BARS IN BEIJING DURING OLYMPICS!!! READ ARTICLES NOW!
This should cause a real flurry amongst Blacks around the world!
After working in China for five months straight, in 2006, I'm really shocked by this! Then, I took a good look at the facts. ALL THE SINGERS AT THE CLUBS WHERE I WORKED IN SHANGHAI were black. The musicians could be white, chinese or black, but the singer had to be BLACK to authenticate the jazz/blues/r&b. Amazing. The Chinese are racist from the word "GO!" But they understand the fact that it takes a BLACK WOMAN to make "the music" happen. Sheeesh!
Funny, I was working toooo hard to get some jazz gigs for many musicians in Beijing and Tianjin during the Olympics, but nothing worked, nothing happened.
The real rub is the number of Chinese, males and females, who asked me about coming to America. Everybody wants to come here. People hate living in their own country. They all think America is the land of opportunity. I've even started to write a book - WHAT DOES AMERICA MEAN TO US?
How many of us watched BLACKS IN AMERICA in the past two days?
