Hello friends,
I am just going to let you how my first time as an event's Host went. To tel you the truth it was not like I expected it to be, but I learned from it, and next time I will be more prepared. We went to a K-Mart store located in Bellflower on Rosescrans and McNab , CA and we could not hand out pledges because for them to let us do so, we have to contact their headquaters, and since it was week-end headquaters was close. Also I expected 8 people who sign up for the event, , and only 6 peoples showed up, only 3 was from the signed up list. and I am wondering if there is something that I did wrong or if the event was not advertized enough. How do people actually get more people. The weather was not favorable so we could not really do much. but it was my first time I guess, I hope next time will be better. I am counting on any of your advises, strategies in how you made your event more successfull. I will be reading your post with interest.
Thank you
Salma
We all helped Obama in our own way: some phone-banked; others knocked on doors. Because of my busy schedule, I couldn't do any of that.So I decided to become a voluntee internet strategist for Obama's campaign. I launched my own "50 State Strategy" - essentially a massive e-mail campaign, where I micro-targeted voters. I sent out over 100,000 e-mails on his behalf the past 9 months to people from the 50 states. It was a great deal of fun. I spent two hours a day mining the internet for e-mails specific to region, race, ethnicity, etc. And this worked beautifully. For example, when Obama was endorsed by the Asian-American PAC (the 80-20 Initiative) I sent an e-mail out that same day to over 500 members of Asian-American fraternities and sororities. And when Obama had a surprisingly rocky start with a Latina member of Congress in June (the start of the general election), I went into overdrive, e-mailing over 2000 Latinos across the country for a whole week straight about his commitment to concerns Latinos hold dear. Moreover, when I e-mailed states like MT, ND, WY, ID, WV, and NE, I played up his eye-popping appeal among white voters. However, when I e-mailed NM, CO, OR, CA, FL or WA (more cosmopolitan, and racially/ethnically diverse states) I simply showed how he was winning and what his positions were.So in four years when we're all working to get Obama re-elected, let's not forget about the internet. Its powerful. And it was largely responsible for him getting elected.
And when he announces his bid to run for re-election, I'm determined to have 600,000 e-mails I can send his info to. I'm growing my list, which currently is over 200,000...we have to keep the momentum going!

Many of us including myself are doomed to watch Inauguration Day on TV. Either the hotel reservation did not work out or your only friend in DC already has given his guest room to someone else. However, TV is a good way to be part of Inauguration Day, too. Probably, it is warmer that 17 degree in your house. Also, you will most certainly have a better view on the president.
However you willl probably unfortunately miss out on some of the cool obama merchandise out there. To get the coolest Obama Merchandise Item out there go to OriginalObamaWristband.com
The Original Obama Wristband is the most awesome way to remember the Inauguration of Barack Obama!!! Go to OriginalObamaWristband.com

I think President Obama has all the humanistic qualities in the description of a true MAN by Rudyard Kipling in his poem "IF". I am so proud to be able to say that my president is the MAN of virtues to lift up the standards of humanistic values in our country and the world from now on... I dedicate this poem to President Barack Obama...
IF
If you can keep your head when all about youAre losing theirs and blaming it on you,If you can trust yourself when all men doubt youBut make allowance for their doubting too,If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,Or being hated, don't give way to hating,And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;If you can meet with Triumph and DisasterAnd treat those two impostors just the same;If you can bear to hear the truth you've spokenTwisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winningsAnd risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,And lose, and start again at your beginningsAnd never breath a word about your loss;If you can force your heart and nerve and sinewTo serve your turn long after they are gone,And so hold on when there is nothing in youExcept the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;If all men count with you, but none too much,If you can fill the unforgiving minuteWith sixty seconds' worth of distance run,Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!
--Rudyard Kipling

I did a bit of sign waving with another dozen volunteers, made reminder calls in the afternoon, but others had done such a great job with GOTV efforts, just about everyone we reached tonight had already voted. Someone brought champagne for all, but we dare not jinx the outcome by celebrating victory prematurely, so a toast was said in gratitude and memory of Barack's Tutu (grandmother).
On to the watch party and celebration, which was packed full of supporters. A heartfelt letter from Barack's sister, Maya (who has been caring for their grandmother in these last few days) was read. I think the longest line this Election Day was the buffet, but it was ono (real good)!
99% of the Hawai`i count is in now, and we've made our staff's goal to bring in the largest percentage of Obama/Biden votes... 72%!
My favorite personal experiences of the campaign... on a Sunday afternoon of sign waving, seeing a car come around the median in a U-turn (heading to McDonald's) full of tutus (grandmas) all vigorously waving back at us after seeing our Obama-Biden signs. Registering a student to vote who was turning 18 on Election Day... and shaking hands with both our State Senators for the first time tonight!
Mahalo (thank you) to all campaign staff and supporters for making my HOPE a REALITY!
IMUA (go forward)!
