What moved me to write this song was the changing tide I could see before my eyes that allowed a mixed-race man to run for President of the United States in addition to reading Martin Luther King's 1968 speech that holds its weight in belief and power to this day. I am a mixed-race, first generation American and it was at that fundraiser that I acknowledged that I, too, have something in common with Mr. Obama. I had been hearing from New York City cab drivers and business people alike that everyone has something in common with Obama.
After rewriting one more draft of the song I performed it with groups of children, at my solo shows and finally on camera with the excellent musicians and camera crew you can witness on the music video. Over the 10 months since I wrote the song, I would repeatedly hear fans and campaigners for Obama quoting King's speech -- I knew we were all thinking along the same lines and there was a great feeling of hope growing. I noticed that Obama is extremely active with musicians, that he loves music and includes it in his life and work. The spirit of the music and musicians around him was another way with which he reached his voters, joyfully and without pretense. I wished to pay tribute to him and his peerless efforts of communication and idealism. I saw that his supporters thought along those lines, too, and that we all were of one mind wanting peace and unity.
By the time Obama was elected, listeners of "I Have a Dream" were encouraging me to offer it to be sung at the inauguration. My method to begin this quest is the music video presented on YouTube.com. It was created in the same spirit of viral, computer-driven distribution that I noticed from Obama's campaign. It was shot, recorded, edited and mastered in 7 days over the course of 14 and will be launched for sale on the Max3.com online music distribution network on January 15, 2009 as an audio single and also available as a video for purchase.
I want to thank you for your kind attention to my words and my work, should you choose to go to the link below. If you do so, you will within seconds have access to my interpretation of the wish I witnessed coming from Obama for this country and the world. I have done my best to channel that wish into the words, melody, rhythms and harmonies you can hear.

Wishing you a peaceful, happy, healthy & safe 2009,

Great Music Video - "It's A New Day" by Will i am

I NEED FRIENDS NOW OR NO ONE WILL SEE ME FOR A MONTH.
I began including Barack Obama in my creative life after his first debate with Senator Clinton. I wanted him to take back his power. Thus I created a "Take back your Power" song and video for him, his wife Michelle, and everyone else; A musical guide for people to take back their powers together. After MOVE ON called for a 26 second Obama Ad, I reworked it for that.
You can see the 26 second MUSEic video Obama AD at:
http://journeyswithskyklark.blip.tv/#872682
Later I integrated the entire process from conception, through creation, to completion into one of my 30 minute TV shows, "JOURNEYS with SKYLARK". (You can see the TV show in Fort Collins, Colorado on Comcast Channel 97. It plays Tues. 10PM, Wed.8PM and Thurs. 10PM)
You can see a 3 miniute edit of the 30 minute show at:
http://journeyswithskylark.blip.tv/#1336735
Later on in the campaign three other women with healing and helping abilities gathered at my studio and we did a 'prayer' circle calling in light, love, power and protection for The Obamas. Special effects were used to show this spiritual light energy. You can see this 7 minute clip at:
http://journeyswithskylark.blip.tv#1427406
And when Senator Obama came to my home town of Fort Collins Colorado, I printed up press passes from our public access tv station and did a three camera shoot of his wonderful talk to the 50,000 people who came. You can see 10 minutes of that talk at:

(I really wish there were a way to having living links on this blog...or a way to coach us on how to do it if it is possible...So if someone on board sees this, please give me a notice at cskylark@comcast.net. Thanks!)
I'm commiting creative time, consciousness and TV expertise to world healing in every way I know. Please call on me to help. With great appreciation to President Elect Barack Obama for the position he now takes as a world helper, healer...savior. May peace, prosperity and enlightenment be the outcome. Carol Skylark
During the past few weeks, while I've engaged in deep research of new trends in internet marketing and social media for my own entrepreneurial initiatives, I've also been keeping track of much of the on-line media involved with the Obama campaign. Of all the great promotional videos that have emerged--my favorite has been this one pioneered by MC Yogi and a local California media team:
MC Yogi: Obama '08 - Vote for Hope
This high quality media production really captures the progressive edge, and may have really helped ground-in votes from the younger "hip" demographic. I've participated in helping this outstanding video go viral in it's organic distribution (nearly 250,000 views in just a few short weeks) by leveraging my own social media tool and skills across my networks.
After the video was initially released, I was told by friends that MC Yogi lives nearby, and that a few people who managed the media production are people I know and have worked with here in Marin County. I had a good feeling that I would likely have an opportunity to meet MC Yogi and congratulate him on such a successful production and contribution. That opportunity finally came last night when I attended the "Groove Garden" dance party in Fairfax--where MC Yogi did a live rendition and rap of the same "Vote for Hope" song for Obama. Directly after his performance, I approached MC Yogi, and shared with him my appreciation of the production, and let him know that it really inspired me. He is a great guy, and my further encouragement led him to also peform several more crowd-inspiring raps for Ganesha, Shiva, and other spiritual reverences.
It's great to realize that with just a few creative minds and some dedicated skill and time--nearly anyone can make significant contributions toward progressive change in this world.

I am a fan of an artist named Jacqui Naylor. She is releasing a new album called "You Don't Know Jacq" around election day. One of the songs on the album is called "Rise Up". They've put out a music video on YouTube here:

to promote the album and evidently in support of Barack Obama.

Ingredients:
1 USDA Choice 5-Star Presidential candidate (recommend Barack Obama ONLY!)
2 Barack Obama supporters in Chicago
1 Barack Obama supporter in Phoenix
a pinch of musical & managerial know-how
a dash of computer technology know-how
a jigger of creative ingenuity
First, select the best presidential candidate in 40 years. We strongly recommend only using Barack Obama for optimal results. Second, get a young singer/songwriter with a powerful, intoxicating voice to write a song reflecting our common desire for change. Third, record the song and send an mp3 version of it to another Obama supporter in Phoenix Arizona, who just so happens to have a knack for creating visual delights to accompany the sweet sounds. Fourth, enjoy the finished product.

This production was created with much love & passion by Obama supporters for anyone who prefers the new politics of hope over the politics of cynicism and politics of fear.
Minneapolis-based musicians J.P. DeLaire and Tre Balfour have written a song inspired by Sen. Obama's message of hope and change for America. The song, In My Life is a "passionate and gritty" exploration of the challenges facing American society.
Here's how J.P., who is currently a saxaphone player for Michael Bolton, describes In My Life:
After several months of witnessing some of the music videos and messages that are currently being aired on TV and across the Internet by various artists, I was inspired to address my support for Obama's candidacy in a more serious tone. In My Life touches on multiple world events that have affected our communities across the globe, and to our detriment here in the US, under the current Leadership. My belief is that Obama is the Leader who inspires and is able to make change. Obama's ability to communicate and unite is powerful. He is innovative, humble, charismatic, believable, genuine and extremely soulful. His ability to connect to a newer generation of people is what is appealing to me. We are a nation that is thirsty for truth and spirit behind what is being presented to us, and I believe that Obama is the person that is able to deliver. I wrote, "In My Life" to get people to think and feel... We are bright and intelligent people. Let's get out and vote, and enable CHANGE!

I Don't Believe in Never. This song was suggested to me by another Obama blogger, Dinora. I was not familiar with the song or the artist so I went surfing over at my second online home, YouTube, and found it. What a pleasant surprise! Even though I am not fluent in Spanish I did study the language for 3 1/2 years in high school so I was able to understand a lot of the song. From what I learned, the artist Juanes, is very well known and popular in Mexico. When I mentioned this to my daughter in Seattle she knew exactly who I was talking about so, sadly I feel I was a little behind the curve on this one.
Anyway, the song has a very catchy beat to it and I included the English subtitles for the majority of the song other than when the chorus repeats the second time. I'll include all the English translation lyrics here for anyone who may be interested. The spanish lyrics can be found all over the web with a simple google search.
I want everyone to know that I like all types of music and I am always open to suggestions for songs to use for Obama videos. Once again kudos to Dinora for the suggestion on this one.

No Creo En el Jamas - I Don't Believe in Never
When life throws me blows and knocks me to the ground
is when I feel the most that I have to pick myself up
for facing fear is a way to conquer it
I won't give up, I won't give my life to fear
fear is an assasin that kills feelings
whenever I'm alone, it's because God is here inside me
and I need silence to be able to find
my own voice and my truth
and at the end of the darkness
I don't feel alone, I know you're with me
today I'm going to rise and not get disheartened
over what I wanted to do and wasn't able to
I'm not going to accept it today, I'm going to try to do better
life has a solution, there's nothing impossible here
I don't believe in never...no! (x2)
If giving up is a way of dying
then I'm never going to give in to death
I think of my family, the heart beats stronger
for one cannot live wondering when one will die
and they say that to dream is as much as dreaming of being alive
I believe in the present and that keeps me away from death
and I need silence to find
today I will rise and I won't get disheartened
I won't accept it today, I'm going to try to do better
life has a solution, there is nothing impossible here
"Yes We Can" is the new musical and video tribute to Senator Barack Obama for President by Maria Muldaur and Bonnie Raitt. I was asked to co-produce and distribute the video on behalf of Maria Muldaur, Bonnie Raitt, and Joel Joseph of Studio B Recording in Sausilito, CA. It's not to be confused with the first great "Yes We Can" video and song by Will-I-Am, which is a terrific and pioneering work of its own. Also see www.yeswecanthevideo.comHere's the video:

I have just completed a music video "Nowhere Man (Goodbye Mr. Bush)". It is my hope that it will encourage people to vote this election year. And to vote "OBAMA 08"!
As an Obama for president supporter and against another Bush type administration. You might enjoy this video. Please feel free to pass it on, especially to those who are not OBAMA supporters.

This is just a cute little shout out to all my Obama brothers and sisters here on www.barackobama.com. As this campaign has progressed I have found that this website has become my second home. It is such a friendly and helpful and fun atmosphere that it is the closest thing to "family" that I have experienced outside of my biological family.
I can only hope that this site remains "the best show in town," even after President Obama takes the Oath of Office. I just love it here.
