For the record, I don't believe that Senator McCain thinks he is owed the presidency because of his military service. But there is a very fine line between highlighting one's honorable service to country and implying that it makes one uniquely capable of running it. The former shows a well-deserved pride in the military. The latter just sounds militaristic
Doctor Phillip Butler is a 1961 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a former light-attack carrier pilot. He knew John McCain while they were both at the Naval Academy. In an op-ed titled "Why I Will Not Vote for John McCain" he writes: "John McCain is a long-time acquaintance of mine that goes way back to our time together at the U.S. Naval Academy and as Prisoners of War in Vietnam. He is a man I respect and admire in some ways. But there are a number of reasons why I will not vote for him for President of the United States."
Find out why.
The country's wartime status has riddled this Presidential election year with added questions. That's why several non-profit military groups have come together to try to hold a Presidential town hall meeting at Fort Hood. Sen. Barack Obama is the missing ingredient for a town hall meeting at Fort Hood.
My family has been having a debate about illegal immigration, and my husband said something that startled us all. Now our conversation has been centering around a debate that I thought I shoulkd bring here, and get more input on.
Everyone agrees that there are two major problems in America, one is illegal immigration and the other is that recruitment in the military is down and we are overstretched.
The debate we are having is why not link a path to citizenship through the path of service?
Obama already believes that we should make a path for citizenship, and he has already said that young people should serve this country if they take advantage of college tuition help. WHy not give young illegal immigrants a path to citizenship through service as well?
What are your thoughts. We have already discussed it in our house and come up with a list of pros and cons to it, but we our conclusions may be different than yours.
