In addition to the Obama yard signs popping up everywhere around Livingston, the growing size of the volunteer group, the number of times I am asked where to get Obama bumperstickers and pins, these upcoming events show that Livingston is getting behind the best candidate for President that we have seen in a very long time. The first two events are not fundraisers (although I'm sure no one would refuse your right to donate to the campaign!), and the third is a fundraising dinner. Folks who are still considering what to do should attend to learn more about Obama, and why so many people in our community support him.
May 8: Reading for Obama
May 12: Republicans and Independents for Obama
And a fundraising dinner ($50 donation, dinner/drinks NOT included):
May 31: Dinner at Livingston Bar & Grill
These meetings and events are some opportunities to turn off the TV pundits whose refrains of the same three out of tune notes for each candidate are grinding us all down. Attend and talk to your neighbors–real people who've been thinking about the issues. They have hopes for America reclaiming its values and respect in the world, not to mention fundamental solutions to current problems.
I'm pleased to say that my article "Dear Hillary, There is no Day One" was published on The Huffington Post.
I do feel a little sheepish about it because it is sarcastic in a vein that belies the better tone established by the Obama campaign. I hope my fellow Obama supporters will allow that we can be tough without the guilt by association so popular in a press that is having a feeding frenzy about the Democratic rivalry now that they have a news hiatus on their 24-hour primary coverage.
Anyway, I am so terribly dismayed by how Hillary is using the Karl Rove Playbook to run her campaign now that I hereby give myself forgiveness for being a smart aleck.
My greater regret is that I did not include links to my other blogs, and to Montana for Obama in the requested bio. Missed an opportunity there!
And I hope that the incomparable dignity of Barack Obama continues to win in the primaries. Hopefully using the "kitchen sink" approach will be seen for what it is (the medai does seem to be picking up on the Clinton campaign's questionable tactics), and will do more harm than good for its chief architect.
In the meantime, it looks like Barack will be in Butte on April 5! I wish I were going to be available for that. . . A show of thousands of Montanans with Obama signs would be wonderful.
I know that a lot of folks in Montana support Barack Obama, and I see many Bozeman folks in the Montana Neighborhood on BarackObama.com. But I would love to see more Livingston folks.
I know from conversations around town (especially at Pinky's Cafe, a venue that one regular calls our "living newspaper") that there is a lot of support for Obama in this wonderful town of 6800 people. Livingstonians are not public speakers, although as the "Curator" of three blogs I am seeing that blogging is catching on here with area artists and photographers leading the way. If you live in Livingston and want to chime in, a prfoile and an optional blog here at BarackObama.com is a simple way to do that. If you are Web-phobic, I'm willing to help. (I'm a Web designer.) Just leave me word here and I'll assist you.
In the meantime, as the Clinton machine relentlessly rolls on, and we face the threat of our having this primary election's truly exciting possibilities diminished through superdelegate and the pending Florida/Michigan primary decisions, we have to participate in any way that we are comfortable.
I'm weary of how Clinton ambition seems to trump decency and fairness again and again. Here's our chance to say "yes!" to a candidate who is a once-in-a-lifetime combination of brilliance and integrity. So, fellow Livingstonians, I encourage you to get involved.
