We’re Going All the Way…..
It’s been over 16 months since the candidacy of Senator Barack Obama encouraged me to get involved in the political process. ‘Encouraged’ may be too weak of a word. I felt ‘called’ to get involved with supporting the best candidate for President America has seen in a long time. I believed Obama when he repeated the motto “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”
I started by signing up on this website and donating $10.00. There were only a few of us on the blogs back then, but as more people got to know our candidate the numbers swelled.
I’ve had quite a journey since getting involved with this campaign, including attending the DNC as a delegate and sitting close to the stage at Invesco. That night at Invesco was surely one of the highpoints of my life. When Senator Obama took the stage, all I could do was weep. I wept for what was and what wasn’t. But mostly I thanked God for ‘encouraging’ me to get involved! I also thanked God for Barack Obama—our country needs him.
So what now…..still much work to do. I’m not backing down and I know you won’t either……. We’re Going All the Way!

So they did it....they took the best (or maybe the worst) of Jerry Springer and came up with a candidate and a message.
She will play the gender card as a victim....the race card as an attacker. She will play the innocent victim against 'the cultural elite.' She will divide America between 'hard-working white, evangelicals' and 'those people.' She will be the 'innocent victim' against a media that asks her hard questions (if they don't let themselves get bullied.) She is a movie script where the spunky girl rises to power against 'those mean people' who make fun of her. A party who could only bring 36 African-Americans to their convention, is ready to launch a civil war on us to keep the White House.Palin is a PRODUCT of what the right-wing perceives as a winning formula! They will blame all of the country's ills on people who do not look like them or think like them.Not this time!!
The American people were hoodwinked over Iraq...many of us knew this from the beginning!!
My personal opinion is it's not just the Bush Administration that needs to answer for this.
How about the journalists who didn't ask the hard questions?? How about the Congress members who not only didn't ask enough questions...but AUTHORIZED the action (I remember Kennedy and Wellstone being the most vocal of the dissenters...and Byrd...where were the others?) How about the evangelicals who were USED by the warmongers to support the President at any cost?
And...what about all the American citizens who were more concerned with buying bigger houses and bigger cars and more toys, and didn't pay enough attention to what was going on at the time?
I am disappointed in a candidate who would attack a rival for quoting Martin Luther King Jr., and the Declaration of Independence, because he used a phrase many of us use: ‘just words.’ The fact that he had to make the statement in the first place, was because he was attacked for his inspirational messages. I find this reprehensible and totally against everything we stand for as a country.
We have reached a new low in politics when hoping and dreaming are attacked as not meaningful. What, I ask, should we replace inspiration with? Cynicism? Lying to the American people?
We have a candidate who is motivating new people to get involved in the political process in numbers never seen before. We have young and old dreaming of a united America. We have North, South, East, and West hoping we can come together to solve our challenges. We have people from all walks of life who do indeed believe in the just words of Martin Luther King and the just words of the United States Declaration of Independence.
…And, here comes a candidate….so desperate in her attempt to return her family to the highest office in the land…..so devoid of the inspiration required to lead our people…..so calculating in her quest for power…..so divisive in her approach to winning….here she comes to tell us hopes and dreams are not just.
I suppose next she will tell us of the unimportance of faith! She’ll never convince me of that, and hopefully the American people will not fall for it either.
I’m going to quote from the Bible here…again just words:

2008 awaits us!
For Americans everywhere, 2008 represents a chance to rebuild our country’s greatness! We say goodbye to the divisiveness of years gone by. We say no more ‘us versus them’….’rich versus poor’…..’red versus blue’….’urban versus rural’….’employer versus employee.’ These are the messages of yesteryear….these are the actions that prevent us from moving forward as a country, because we know: “A house divided against itself cannot stand!”(Lincoln)
We say goodbye to infighting, gridlock, scandals, secretiveness, and hidden agendas. We want the doors of our government thrown open. We want truth, and will stand for nothing less in the coming years, because we know: “The truth shall set us free!” (Jesus)
We say goodbye to choosing between ‘two evils’ when we vote. We want to vote for candidates with intellect and character. We don’t care about the ‘old-boys-network’ or the ‘new-girls-network.’ We will not judge our leaders by their longevity or battle scars, because we believe: “Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” (JFK)
We say goodbye to fear and anxiety about our country and our future. As a people, we have always survived difficult times and risen to the occasion. We say NO to fear mongering and what-ifs, because we know: “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” (Truman)
We say goodbye to the past…auld lang syne.
We say hello to 2008 knowing that at last, we have a candidate for president that represents the needs of the people of this great country. Barack Obama is a gift to us just when we needed it. Barack Obama inspires us, and this is not a bad thing! We believe NOW is the time for Barack Obama as President, because he knows: “My job is not to represent Washington to you, but to represent you to Washington.” (Obama)
I believe the people of Iowa know that Obama ‘is the real deal’ and will provide him a sizeable victory. However, even if this does not happen…Americans all over the country are waking up to the potential of this great candidate, and we WILL move forward and win the election of 2008!
Americans are ready for a new day.

Merry Christmas to…..the people of Iowa. While the rest of America is focused on reality TV, you great citizens are focused on who should lead our country! We thank you for 'paying attention' long before the average American realized an election is coming. We also thank you for the many events you attend so that you can look the candidates 'in the eye,' and decide whom you are most comfortable with.
Merry Christmas to…..the people of New Hampshire, who also spend a lot of time (in frightful weather) getting to know the candidates, and who know the difference between 'character' and 'characterization.'
Merry Christmas to…..the people of South Carolina, who refuse to embrace the past, and realize that America has indeed turned a corner where race is concern. They understand there is more to be done, but at this point in American History we can choose integrity over familiarity.

Debate Summary.
I am a supporter of Barack Obama so I won’t pretend my views are objective, (unlike many of the folk over at the news network who seem to be Clinton plants). However, after months of watching the candidates and trying to determine their motivations and their hearts….here is what I came up with after today’s debate:
Candidate John Edwards
Key theme: poor versus wealthy
Key phrase: “corporate power & corporate greed”
Summary: This is not what America needs right now. He is a former trial lawyer who is used to these themes, and he’s probably won many cases doing this. We don’t need to be pitted against each other. At this time in our history, we need to come together to solve problems. He is a good guy though and means what he says.
Role in the Obama Administration: Not VP (unless situations force this leading into convention.) Maybe Secretary of Energy because we will need his toughness against oil interests, or even better Attorney General!
Candidate Bill Richardson
Key theme: I want to please!
Key phrase: “Can’t we all just get along”
Summary: Nice guy, but gives the impression he is trying too hard to please – or to be VP to HRC. Definitely can’t be the leader of the free world.
Role in the Obama Administration: Maybe, Secretary of Education.
Candidate Chris Dodd
Key theme: I remember when
Key phrase: “I’ve been working at this for years”
Summary: Seems to be a throwback to a prior generation! Even the staccato of his voice is reminiscent of war movies in the 1940’s. Good guy, but not who we want to lead America and change the way things are done in Washington.
Role in the Obama Administration: Definitely a cabinet position, not sure which one.
Candidate Hillary Clinton
Key theme: Revenge
Key phrase: “I’m ready to fight!” & “Remember the 90’s ”
Summary: Most couples who had spent 8 years in the White House would be content to pursue other goals. Not this couple…politics is all they know…politics is what keeps them together! I group them together, because this is just as much Bill’s race as Hillary’s. She is running on his experience. They are running to settle old scores. Does she say the right things…Yes. Is getting elected more important to her than DOING the right thing…Yes!
Role in the Obama Administration: None, because she and Bill would be maneuvering against him and plotting her next run for office. (Although if she could put aside her blind ambition and desire for revenge, she might be good in Education)
Candidate Joe Biden
Key theme: I’m enjoying this ride.
Key phrase: “I speak bluntly”
Summary: Seems a little too glib at times, but clearly is enjoying the process more than the others. He won’t win the presidency…he knows that, but he does have experience and heart.
Role in the Obama Administration: VP or Defense (if he can control the glibness.) This is a good guy and he and Obama just might make a good team. He knows his way around Capital Hill and will speak the truth to President Obama.
Candidate Barack Obama
Key theme: Called to serve
Key phrase: “this is bigger than me”
Summary: This is the person America needs right now. He will surround himself with the right advisors and he will use good judgment in making decisions on our behalf. He will move the country forward as he brings back our greatness. We will be admired by most of the countries of the world because of our progressiveness and our ‘audacity’ to elect a black guy named Barack Obama. This is what America is about! This is why we’ve always been the greatest country in the world!
Role in the Obama Administration: President.

As I get more involved in the Obama presidential campaign, and meet with supporters and activists in my local area, I am encouraged by the diverse group of Americans that support this campaign. You see….these aren’t just any Americans to me—these are my friends, neighbors, and community leaders—many of whom have never been involved in a political campaign.
These are the people I see at the shopping center, at the gas station, at the school, and at church. Some are boomers—nostalgic for a long ago time of hope, passion, and commitment to American values. Some are parents—concerned about the America they are leaving their children and grandchildren. Some are students—ready to flex their muscle and make a difference in the world. And…some are like me—people who sense something special about Barack Obama’s potential to lead this country, and feel called to get involved.
These are men and women of all races, incomes, backgrounds, and political persuasions. They understand that it is important to have a President that tells the truth, and puts American interests over politics.
I think my friends and neighbors understand that too much is at stake now…we can’t get it wrong this time! We simply MUST elect a smart, capable, honest American for president! We can no longer tolerate the warring among political parties that has intensified the last two decades, and causes gridlock in our government.
It is time “to bind up the nation’s wounds” and move forward. I believe, God has sent us the right person for this time in our American History. Barack Obama will unite us behind common goals for our country. He will allow us “to finish the work we are in” as outlined in the Constitution of our great country.
With Barack Obama as President…we will heal.

When a Woman Runs For President
After watching the Iowa debate, my eight-year-old daughter informed me she might decide to run for president one day. She said it nonchalantly, as if there was no question that she, as an African-American female, could someday be a serious contender for the American presidency. I knew this was because of the people she saw on stage during the debate – an African-American man and a female.
We have indeed come a long way in America, and I hope that my own daughter, and little girls of all races, KNOW that they can run for office. They see the possibilities and this is good. I have no doubt that we will one day have a female president…but, when we do, I hope that she wins because she is the best PERSON for the job, and not because she is a woman. I hope this woman rises to the top on her OWN accord, without depending on the record of a spouse, or dad, or brother. I also hope she ‘stands for something’ other than getting elected.
One day we will have a woman candidate for president who reflects the values of the American people, and stands strong on her convictions. We will know her policies because she will tell us. She will be confident, but not smug….strategic, but not crafty….smart, but not condescending. She’s coming! She’s not here yet…but, she’s coming!
I am encouraged by the strength and the confidence I see among the young women and girls of today. Even my own daughter has been known to show her toughness when necessary. Recently, after being picked on by a male classmate at school, she didn’t run crying to the playground supervisor, instead she reminded him, “I have a foot and I’m not afraid to use it!” This is the kind of PERSON I want for president!
It goes without saying, I support Barack Obama for president. Not because he is black, not because he went to Harvard, not because he can dance…but, because he is the BEST PERSON running in terms of intellect, judgment, and character. Also, he “has a foot, and isn’t afraid to use it!”

Barack Obama is the candidate who best exemplifies the values and ideals that made this country great. He alone possesses the experience required to lead America to a glorious future.
By experience, I do not mean years spent in battle with the opposing political party.
By experience, I do not mean putting the desires of special interests, ahead of the needs of the American people.
By experience, I do not mean casting aside judgment, in favor of political chips to be cashed in later.
By experience, I do not mean being all things to all people, instead of being consistent and honest.
By experience, I do not mean drawing on family connections to advance a career, instead of standing on one’s own accord.
By experience, I do not mean authorizing our young people to be sent to fight the wrong war, because of popular opinion at the time.
By experience, I do not mean putting POLITICS above AMERICA!
Like the great American leaders who preceded him—Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, King, and Parks—Obama has risen to the moment! This is what great leaders do! He is a man of the times, and exactly what America needs right now.
We NEED a person with a worldview…someone who has lived among the peoples of the world, and understands their viewpoint—while still championing our American values and interests.
We NEED a person who represents the various cultures of our own country, while also understanding we are stronger as a nation when we unite.
We NEED a person who has empathy for the ‘withouts' in our society, as evidenced by Obama’s decision years ago to forgo a big income, in favor of serving in the community.
Which brings up another point….
We NEED a person who understands that money is not the solution for all of our ills, and there are more important things, like family, friendships, and faith.
We NEED a person who will be honest with us as we tackle the many issues of our time on this planet, and not just tell us what we want to hear, or what they think we need to know.
We NEED a person who will bring in fresh faces, fresh voices, and fresh solutions from both parties, and end our political gridlock.
And finally, we NEED a person who inspires us to look toward the future, instead of reminding us of the mistakes of our past.
Yes….it’s Obama time!
If we want to bring America back to its glory…if we want to leave our children a better tomorrow….if we want to elect the person with the BEST experience for where we are now…if we want to say “AMERICA IS BACK!.....AMERICA IS BACK!” ….we NEED Barack Obama!
Elect Barack Obama as President of the United States...."And I Think To Myself, What a Wonderful World!"
We're called 'naïve' and some consider us 'irresponsible' for throwing our support and resources behind an upstart candidate….a newcomer who has captured the imagination of Americans of all ages, of all ethnicities, of all incomes, from coast-to-coast. Despite the constant bombardment of 'spin' and 'polls' which insinuate there is really only 'one' candidate for the democratic nomination (and the presidency!) we keep going and we keep believing.
Why?
Yes, there are other candidates with similar credentials…but none of them embody ALL that Barack Obama has to offer. And, then there is what’s commonly referred to as the 'it' factor. Some call it charisma, some call it destiny, some call it luck. My personal opinion is that it is divinely inspired. But, whatever 'it' is….Barack Obama has it.
All Americans need to take an honest look at this guy and imagine the country with a President we can respect and admire. Imagine a President who unites us behind common goals! Imagine a President who brings out the best in America. This is why Obama supporters keep believing.
We don’t care about what the other candidates are doing and saying because we know those are just actions to get elected. We don’t care about polls or media, because we know they can be manipulated and don’t always reflect reality. We don’t care about debates and forums because we know they are mostly carefully crafted sound-bites. However, we do care about America.
We are not naïve, we are hopeful. We are not irresponsible, we are practical. We support Barack Obama because he is the best candidate for president America has seen in a long time…and, our future demands that we get it right this time!
At the center of candidate Clinton's plan is MANDATORY healthcare insurance. While we all know of the problems with our current system, MANDATORY healthcare will leave all Americans at the mercy of the insurance companies who will continue to raise rates. And...what will happen to those who for whatever reason don't purchase insurance? Will they be charged with a crime (like driving without a license.) So I guess the crime would be -- living without insurance.
And, will insurers be held to the same standards and NOT be able to kick people out of their plans? Senator Clinton says this MANATORY insurance will be like what we currently have with auto insurance. Our rates go up after an accident so...will our rates go up after an illness?We know who will benefit from Senator Clinton's plan and it's not us.Barack Obama also recognizes the need to reform healthcare, however he DOES NOT CALL FOR MANDATORY INSURANCE.
I disagree with my daughter who thinks High School Musical 2 is the greatest movie ever made.
I disagree with my son who thinks it’s okay that his room looks like a garbage dump.
I disagree with my mother about the need to have every single dish, knife, fork, and spoon, washed and put away before bedtime. (I tried to tell her this when I was 14 and got grounded.)
I disagree with my brother about which one of us is the least like our mother. (Please don’t tell her…she will ground me again)
And, most off all, I disagree with my husband about every opinion he has.
I disagree with these people, but I love them!
There are times when I disagree with friends and acquaintances about politics, but it doesn’t affect our relationships. There’s nothing like a good debate among friends!
Is the country really as partisan as the pundits try to make us?
I think most Americans want the same things: job opportunities (in this country), a living wage, merit pay, the ability to buy a house (and keep it), adequate heath care, quality education for our children and the ability to send them to college, and something to live on when we get older. And, if we have to send our children to war to defend American interests…we want to know our commander-in-chief, his advisors, and our Congress… have thought out all possible options.
I bet most people would agree with this.
So why then can’t we come together to solve our problems?
Okay, so I guess this is a ‘naive’ point of view….however, it doesn’t take years of ‘experience’ to know we are in gridlock as a country because of partisan divisions. Whoever is in power wastes time trying to get ‘even’ with the other side. Red versus Blue; Democrats versus Republicans…NOTHING IS GETTING DONE! Getting elected and maintaining office is more important than governing. The only happy folk are the special interests who are able to buy their own candidates.
My Republican friends share the same family values as my Democratic friends. Yes, there are many issues we disagree on, but it’s not always along political party lines. There are Democrats firmly opposed to abortion…there are Republicans who support gay marriage. It’s not always black and white….only on the news shows.
Some of my best friends (and my brother) are Republican. They are not attack dogs or part of a right-wing conspiracy. They just tend to relate more to the positions of the Republican party. I think they are wrong sometimes, (okay…many times) but, I respect their opinions.
I am a Democrat (for now.) I am not a lunatic, and my heart does not bleed for people who expect handouts. I will however, argue day and night over the needs of the afflicted, the young, the elderly, and the downtrodden. My Republican friends respect this.
Scripture tells us …..There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. This is not a season for battles. It is a season for reconciliation. The candidate who best exemplifies this will be our next president.
I believe that person is Barack Obama.

Senator Obama was simply OUTSTANDING in today's debate in Iowa. He was comfortable and confident. His charisma and class outshone everyone else on stage. Never before has the difference between Obama, and the 'status-quo' candidates, been so apparent. He is the driving force and they are now revolving around him. This is leadership....and beyond his backgound and intellect...what he has is a 'gift' from God that can not be emulated. HE IS A BORN LEADER....not a manufactured leader.
Clinton's approach is that of a 'fighter.' It is apparent she is relishing a fight with Rove, Bush, and the 'Republican Attack Machine.' She is 'bring-them-on' lite. It is understandable that she would be carrying a grudge after her years in Washington, and what she and her husband have gone through. (Bush also probably carried a grudge into the White House -- against Saddam) The problem is...we are tired of fighting! Republican's are not attack dogs, they are Americans. Obama understands this. He is not carrying baggage from the past that will keep him from building coalitions to solve American problems. Not only that, he understands the MORAL IMPERATIVE to unite Americans and not divide them.
Edwards has worthy goals...but, he is also an 'us versus them' candidate. He is fighting for relevancy without the charisma and freshness of Obama. He is struggling to grab some headlines....the problem is, leaders don't have to struggle. They make decisions (such as Obama's recent decision to limit forum appearances) and others....including the media, follow.
Yes...Obama has emerged as the American leader...the front-runner in the 2008 campaign. The others can only follow.
Lisa Sylvester from the Lou Dobbs show interviewed me on Friday about my small, online contribution to Obama. It's scheduled to air today. I tried to represent us the best I could...I talked about OUR issues...healthcare, gas prices, college tuition, etc. Everything facing middle class families and why we are fed up with politics as usual.
I also talked about this site and how it allows us 'grass roots' people to organize and give our opinions.Can't quite remember all I said (put a mike in front of me and I tend to rant!) but, I was very clear about my support of Obama and what he represents to us. Can't wait to see what is aired.Linnie
There is an effort to paint Hillary as the nominee with an “insurmountable” lead. It’s just a ploy to stop the Obama bandwagon.
Don’t get distracted from this HISTORY-MAKING campaign.
Obama made a MAJOR foreign policy speech today, signaling a change in direction, and a realization of what Americans are facing internationally. Some of the pundits and other candidates are already spewing forth their same old tired lines about ‘experience.’
Well…their ‘experience’ is what has gotten us to this point!
I DO believe that the election of Barack Obama as President, will signal to the countries of the world that America has a STRONG leader who is intellectual, fair, and willing to do what is necessary for the security of America. From day one, they will know that our policy will be changing--we will no longer ‘talk tough’ and ‘walk limp.’
Finally….we have an American leader who will fight for us, (face-to-face if he has to) and not just don cowboy hats and boots and spew ‘John-Wayne’ like rhetoric.
Finally….we have an American leader who will take the time to ‘personally’ know what is going on in other countries and not just depend on aides and advisers.
Finally….we have an American leader who will come into office with a plan, and not wait to see which way the wind is blowing.
Finally….we have an American leader who can communicate with foreigners, because he has been exposed to a world view.
Finally….we have an American leader who knows that America is the greatest country in the world, not because of our ability to wage war, but because of our people and our beliefs.
Finally….we have an American leader who knows when to fight….how to fight…and where to fight.
If we must send our young men and women into war….this in the kind of leader we need.
