I keep reading, with utter dismay, of all the conflicts in the world that seem to drive up the price of essential commodities that promote human life.
In Russia and the Ukraine, people are freezing to death, and there is a fight. In the Middle East, there are wars on top of wars that seem to regulate the price of Oil.
Around the world, people are freezing, unable to afford the very thing that could prevent that, meanwhile the price of Oil keeps going up so the Oil Barons can get richer. To what end do these riches yield? “What value does a man have, if he gains all the possessions in the world and loses his soul? Praise the Dollar as God Himself!”
I question the bailouts in the US, for bailing out the ones that spend money foolishly and care nothing about the common man, I question the Oil Barons, who speculate on the price of a necessary commodity in this day and time, as if they were shooting craps at the casino. Guess what folks, there is an eventual crap out, where the house takes all the table stakes and your left with just a little bit in reserve, perhaps to speculate some more a push for more wealth, no matter what the personal cost is.
In Houston, Texas, as a disabled vet on limited income, the energy companies here don’t hesitate in the heat of summer or the dead of winter to cut the necessities of life for not paying the entire extravagant bills they send. There is no heart and soul in these actions, only dollar signs, and human life is not even worth a penny to them if it’s not in their pockets.
What’s happened to the world? I really don’t know, and I question all humanity on this issue. What happened to the days when people actually cared about other people, and would belly up and provide for each other, no matter what the cost. Have we become that selfish and self centered as a society? How about just sitting with someone, perhaps that person on the street, laughing with them, giving them your smile…..it doesn’t cost you a penny, but it does take about 5 seconds of your precious time. Sounds pretty cheap to me, except….time is the most precious commodity we have to give each other. To bad, in this hectic world, we take that for granted and spend the time we have chasing the almighty dollar that sharing God’s Love with each other.
Who knows, in an ideal society, there would be no hunger, no greediness, no lack of self worth, no suffering, no loneliness……perhaps we would be one people, together, with full lives and no worries about today.
“But of these, three remain faith, hope and love…but…the greatest of these is Love!”
Thank You God, for the precious gift of time (love) You give to me….I pray I give enough time and love back to You through human compassion and kindness……

I keep seeing people posting to this forum begging Obama to “force banks to give credit.” Things like “I can’t get a 30 year loan to buy a house.” Or “My credit card company keeps reducing my credit.” When I hear these complaints I am reminded of a crack addict’s pleas that they use the drug “responsibly”. They all feel that if they could just get a little more they would be fine.
The reality is that use of a credit card has a much more profound and expansive impact on those around you then using crack does. Use crack, live 10 blocks over, and I will probably never know or feel the result. However, if you use credit to buy your groceries that you otherwise wouldn’t have been able to afford, you have increased the market value of groceries.
Basic economics most people have at least heard of tells us that “a market price is set by the highest value at which people are ‘willing AND able’ to buy the product. Credit cards have allowed people who normally wouldn’t have the resources to compete in the market against me to have access to those resources.
Let us say you are browsing the fine objects available for sale at an auction. You spy a great cigar store Indian in the middle of all the other stuff that you feel you must have. When the auctioneer get around to tapping his cane on the Indian you feel that little jilt of excitement that you are about to become the owner of that which you desire. Much to your delight he starts the bidding off at just $10. You raise your hand high. But just like that you notice another bidder raise the hand. Back and forth you go. 15 becomes 20. 20 50, at about $75 you wish the other party would run out of money. Now on it goes until you bid $150. You are starting to feel the excitement of the win when you hear the other bidder’s friend say “OK” to the request to loan out $50. You are not to be outdone, so eventually you win the bid at $210. You think to yourself, “I wish that yutz hadn’t offered her that extra 50 bucks or I would have only paid $150 for this treasure.” Well that is how I feel when I walk into a grocery store or an electronics store to buy a product with cash. I wish credit card companies hadn’t offered so many yahoos credit to buy these products. They would be priced more realistically. That is the way I feel when I look at the going rate for college when trying to save up for my children’s future. I think, “I wish somebody would make it illegal to offer loans for college educations. Schools would have to charge a more realistic price if they actually wanted students to show up. Now you might think, “but they have to charge enough to pay for their teachers”. But can you imagine how much less a teacher would have to ask for as a salary if they could get a big screen TV band new for $200. It is a classic “chicken or the egg” scenario. Do people need paid more because credit has allowed market prices to be bid up or is it the fact that market prices are so high, that people need credit to pay for them and thus need paid more. For some reason bread only used to be 10 cents.
What happened in the housing market is that banks started offering longer and longer terms in order to get more people the ability to afford to “buy” them. A win/ win/ win for financing organizations. They get more buyer, buying at hire sale prices (which they are getting a percentage of), and earning more in interest over the long term. Interest that they charge you up front. The same thing happens with everyday stuff as banks offer credit cards into the market. Credit companies get paid form the vendors and the consumers. (The funniest thing I have ever seen was an annual fee. I have to pay you money for the honor of paying you money? This is worse economics then a strip club.)
So it is the people who are going through “credit withdraws” and are trying to convince the world that “then need it to survive” that are threatening to unravel any chance we have at a wholesome economic recover. So stop it. Your credit card reduced your limit? Good, you will thank them when you loose your job. A mortgage company won’t let you finance a 30 year loan on a $150,000 house that ends up costing you $350,000 with interest? Write them a thank you letter for not letting you make a mistake that will not only damage you but the entire economy for the rest of us who were also promised our government would give us the opportunity to be alive, free, and happy. None of these thing can you be if you are in debt and working 60 hours a week just to make the minimums. And I can’t be if I have to compete in a market were you are capable of doing that.

How the media can help to defend democracy
New York / London. Since 1984 I am working as a journalist, broadcast journalist and author. Already in the early age of 16 years of age in 1984 I have noticed writing for the paper Daily Mail (Tagespost, Speyer am Rhein, Germany) that the media national and international has a very important role in concern to defend democracy.
Some people in the United States of America know what happened in Germany. In the years 1933 to 1945 people in Germany have suffered a lot because of the tyranny of the Nazi regime and the aftermath of World War II. The time of sorrow was not over in Germany in 1945. From 1945 to 1990 many people in Eastern Germany have suffered until 1989 / 1990 because in Eastern Germany has come to power another dictatorship regime.
Since about 20 years people in Germany and Eastern Germany have a real change to learn what a good democracy could stand for. However as we are all effected by the global financial crisis, global food crisis and many other serious threats we should be aware of the situation not to loose the freedoms and liberties such as granted by the Bill of Rights, the Constitution of the United States of America or as provided in the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights proclaimed three years after World War II in New York City by the United Nations (UN, www.un.org ) .
Because of the very special situation that my grandfather, a former FRENCH ARMY OFFICER Haedi Sabaot a FRENCH citizen is missing since 1945 after World War II I have been forced to think different. Already as a teenager I have been concernd about the threat, that France and Germany may could be at war each other again, as it has taken place in World War I and World War II.
For which country should I fight? Against the country where my grandmother Mrs. Martha Kolcaz was born - against Germany? or against the my grandfathers country which is France.
Already in early age I am came to the conclusion that best we can do is to avoid a new war between France and Germany because I could not make a serious decision on which side or which country I should fight for. So I became after serving for 15 months for the "enemy forces" the German airforce a pacifist. Therefore I got in trouble with the German Military Court.
Because the German Military Officers have been not willing to understand, that I am by no means willing to fight against my grandfather, the former FRENCH ARMY OFFICER and French citizen, Mr. Haedi Sabaot or his friends.
Working for democracy, peace and liberty is not always this is and it required that we are willing to work and labor hard to defend democracy, peacce and liberty.
The United States of America (U.S.A.) is known in all the world as the defender of democracy and therefore I do believe that it is important to support "our" U.S. President Barack H. Obama and his wife and even other people such as the journalist, broadcast journalist and author Amy Goodman which can be called a "true voice for peace."
There is no doubt, when the first Afro-American U.S. President of the United States of America got elected in 2008 Barack H. Obama became since he is in office also the most powerful man on this earth. Imagine if only our U.S. President Barack H. Obama would work for democracy, peace, joy, liberty, social welfare and other elementary and important issue. Certainly he would be able to move something but not enough.
Therefore I do believe it is very important that many other people, precious women and men will get involved in the American and international mission to work for democracy, liberty, peace, health care, social welfare and other important issues and will work together for something good.
Amy Goodman a relative of Holocaust victims and a precious journalist and author is one these precious American woman working hard for the freedom of the press, democracy, liberty and peace.
Amy Goodman has received recently in December 2008 the Right Livelihood Award, which is also known as Alternative Nobel Prize.
Producing media or even an independent radio and television news hour is hard labor. However Amy Goodman has seen as some other journalists, broadcast journalists and authors including me, that there must be another answer then war.
Because I have been looking for a way how to avoid war between two or more nations already in 1986 I came to the conclusion that by supporting international understanding we could perhaps contribute a very important work for peace, liberty and democracy.
To work together for something good, for peace, liberty and democracy is a duty to all people even in their own interest.
In these serious and some times in very difficult times there is a job to do for everyone. Every one not only U.S. citizen can get involved in working for democracy, liberty, peace and the recovery of the United States of American and its people and many other people in many different places in this world.

Amy Goodman is the first journalist which has received the alternative Nobel Prize, the Right Livelihood Award which is given by the Right Livelihood Foundation and Mr. Jakob von Uxekuell which used to be member of the European parliament.
I do believe that Amy Goodman is one of the world best journalists, broadcast journalist and authors and a good American citizen which is laboring hard for a good democracy. The television and radio program Democracy NOW! which Amy Goodman presents with Juan Gonzalez is excellent. In December 2008 we had a chance to meet in Stockholm in Sweden. It is a great honor to meet a precious woman and journalist like Amy Goodman is one.

Something To Explain About My International Family
You might be wondering how can a man or woman be an WORLD CITIZEN and international?
First, my grandfather Haedi Sabaot, is a FRENCH-TUNESIAN citizen and was a FRENCH ARMY OFFICER stationed in the Germany city of Kaiserslautern, Germany in 1945 after World War II.
He was born in North of Africa and he was a so called Black-African man.
He has been in LOVE with my grandmother, Mrs. Martha Kolcaz (born as Maier) and she has delivered a child: My mother in 1946.
People in Germany in 1945 have been still indoctrinated by the NAZI doctrine. The "Fuehrer" liked not this much so called coloured people and my grandmother was persecuted in the city in which she used to live.
In 1950 she has made the hard decision to leave GERMANY forever and she moved to the STATE OF VICTORIA, city of MELBOURNE in AUSTRALIA and even changed her citizenship from the German citizenship into the AUSTRALIAN citizenship.
Already when I have been a teenager I became the unpaid "family interpreter or translator" and all of the communication by phone with my own grandmother, Mrs. Martha was ONLY in the English language.
Certainly I wanted to be able to communicate with my own grandfather, a FRENCH-TUNESIAN citizen which is missing since 1945. Therefore I have studied and learned also the FRENCH language.
For some reason already in 1984 I became very excited about the AMERICAN DREAM and the United States of America and its people.
Therefore I have placed several ads with the Los Angelos Receycler and other papers which do offer ads for free and contacted some organization to find some pen pals in the United States of Amercia.
In 1984 I have been in the happy position to find some pen pals in the United States of America. Since that early time im in touch by regular mail, phone and in these days also by email and the internet with my FRIENDS in the United States of America.
However I do have a dream, which is to become an American citizen.
In 2001 / 2002 I have been traveling two times to New York City and the United States of America. I wanted to help the American people and therefore I became a volunteer with the American Red Cross, although I do hold a GERMAN passport.
Soldiers, policer officers and many other people got exicted about my nice uniform which I have brought with me from Germany as I am not only a journalist, broadcast journalist and author, but as a secondary profession a registered nurse (R.N.) and paramedic also.
In New York City a fire fighter got in trouble after his own house got hit by lighting. However I have made the decision to help him as good as possible. After our mission was completed in the midst of NEW YORK CITY the fire fighter has said in front of his colleague, my ARC supervisior and me: "I wish you that you will become soon an American citizen."
My hope is that the fire fighters good wishes will be heard in the right and good office, soon, as I am waiting so long and longing to become an American citizen.
In New York City I have been laboring hard, 18 hours and I have been meeting hundreds of people face to face. Even those which lost loved ones after 911 and I guess because if all the impressions and the hard work I got a bit traumatized by 911 also.
However it was a honor to help many people and to meet precious, wonderful and good American citizen, which will be a great example for me how to help the communities in New York City.
My favourite city in the United States of America is New York City, followed by Boston, Chicago, Seattle (because a friend lives close to this city) and some other cities.
In 1986 I became the founder of British Newsflash Magzine (which was called first The Newsflash but its title has been changed to British Newsflash Magazine to avoid any kind of misunderstanding). And in 1986 I became with some friends and colleague in the German city of Speyer am Rhein and the English city of Leeds, England the founder of IBS Independent Broadcasting Service Liberty, Radio IBS Liberty, IBS Television Liberty, which is supporting international understanding since 1986.
The country where I want to live, work and marry is the United States of America and I am longing for to become an United States of America citizen. However because of my international family background in many ways (not in all !) I do think cosmopolitan and as a WORLD CITIZEN also.
For many reason I do believe the United States of America is the defender of democracy and a leader or a leading country in defending democracy and this is another reason for supporting the people of the United States of America.
In 2006 I became with other author the founder of the international media project "Liberty and Peace NOW! Human Rights Reporters" which is dealing with social issues and international human rights issues.
In December 2008 I had the great chance to meet a wonderful and excellent colleague in the city of Stockholm, Sweden as she has received there on the side of Krishnammal Jagannathan, Asha Hagi and Dr. Monika Hauser the Right Livelihood Award by the Right Livelihood Award Foundation which is also know as alternative Nobel Prize - the precious woman which I have been meeting and my colleague in her role as journalist, broadcast journalist and author is Amy Goodman from Democracy NOW!
However I do believe because of very precious citizen like her and so many others, the people of the United States of America and the United States of America are so special.
As U.S. President Barack Obama believes that America will be restored, I do believe the same thing and by the way I do believe President Barack Obama, his wife Michelle and his children are precious and special, too.
Since 1984 I am working as journalist, broadcast journalist and author. Some awards from the department for political education I have received in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989.
To be a registered nurse (R.N.) and paramedic is a secondary profession only, since 1993. In the past I have been working also as an ITU (Intensive Therapy Unit) nurse for major German University Hospitals and for the Clementine Churchill Hospital in London in the United Kingdom, also.
Actually I do believe there are millions of precious American people and citizen and if the friends of those people will co-operate for SOMETHING GOOD I believe it will be possible not only to restore the situation of the people of the United States of Amercia and for many other people in many different places in this world also.
So far as possible I am trying to encourage on US NY friends my American FRIENDS to contiune to co-operate and work together for something good in the United States of America and in this world.

The Status Quo is like a Hydra and during the elections several of its heads were cut off. It has taken a blow by those who have woken up to what’s going on and started to speak out against it.
Unfortunately, the Hydra is able to grow back its heads and the grab for power and economic resources continues.
A vision of hope and freedom has visited us before countless times in the history books of our planet, only to have the sovereignty of the people violently squelched or put back to sleep in a bed of apathy. Will we let that happen again?

I am so thankful that Americans joined me in electing Barack Obama president. I am truly thankful that they, like me, appreciate the leadership qualities he has and will bring to bear in addressing the tremendous and weighty problems our country has to face in the coming years: wars; economic, educational, and technical declines; energy independence; the broken health-care system that bilks our seniors and the infirm.
The key trait that drew me to Sen. Barack Obama is one shared by other individuals I interacted with during this campaign, Democrats, Republicans and independents alike. We recognize that as president, Sen. Obama will reunite the country and heal the destructive divide that has come up in the past two decades. He'll blur the lines between red states and blue, between liberals and conservatives, between elite intellectuals and Joe six-packs. Instead, he'll lead our country in celebrating our differences because, as the saying goes, "E Pluribus Unum" — out of many, one.
So ends a historic and very long election cycle. Thank you, fellow Tennesseans who supported Obama's candidacy and voted for him! And for those who supported John McCain or another candidate, console yourself in this: You are in for something good. An era of growth, unity (if you will allow it), and a resurgence of the America of days gone by when our country led the world by example, a shining beacon of liberty for all others to follow. It is our turn, once again, to stand tall and proud, as Americans. Standing not as Republicans or Democrats, but as citizens of our United States of America.
It is our choice, however. We have to first put aside the partisan rancor and look at the big picture and ask "what's best for the country?" That will surely move us forward in a way that restores America's edge and position of global leadership. Can we do this? Together? I am confident we can and I urge you to join me. Choose unity. Choose America.

You’re a doctor. You need to bring in $3,000 apiece for your most common procedure. But Medicare and Medicaid – which pay for about half your patients – have just told you they’re only going to pay you one-third of what they’re billed. What do you do? You don’t need to be a CPA to know the answer is to start billing everyone $4,500 for your procedure. The half of your patients who pay full price thus pay $1,500 extra, covering the $1,500 shortfall for each Medicare/Medicaid-covered procedure.
Now the tricky question: If someone who’s NOT on Medicaid or Medicare visits your medical office to have this procedure done, and promptly pays his or her $4,500 in full, how much has he or she paid you, this year?
And the answer is: $6,000. Those who are not on Medicare or Medicaid are known as “taxpayers.” Where do you think Medicare/Medicaid got the $1,500 to pay for the welfare patient? The taxpayer pays $4,500 for his or her own procedure, and then an extra $1,500 in taxes to fund someone else’s.
For all those who have written in insisting that we need government to pay our medical bills because they’re so high, let’s keep this simple:
Medical bills are really high because the government promises to pay most of them, the same way government-backed “college loans” have driven up the cost of college, by allowing colleges to charge you whatever you can afford plus whatever the government will loan.
Perhaps it’s still technically a minority of Americans who are currently “covered” by Medicare and Medicaid. But since the old and the poor (the latter often skimping on health maintenance and prevention) use the most medicine and medical care, the majority of medical COSTS are covered and “paid for” by these two socialist programs.
Some say as much as two thirds.
If we switched over to “cash only” medicine tomorrow – no government or even private insurance payments allowed – what do you suppose would happen to medical costs?
Remember, the doctor who’s been accustomed to billing $4,500 for a procedure really only gets $1,500 from Medicare/Medicaid, a scheme that’s already jacked up YOUR cost by 50 percent.
Of that $1,500, another $500 (and that may be understated) goes to pay doctors’ non-medical office staff who negotiate bills and payments with the private and government “insurance” firms.
So the doc who “billed” $4,500 expected to get about half that. The rest is only “in there” to buy off this unholy private-public “insurance” bureaucracy.
If he could fire all those non-medical “billing” people in his office, and if the doctor could again assume that most patients might pay the full amount billed on a timely basis, in cash, he or she could drop many posted charges from $4,500 to $2,000 overnight.

I have been doing much thinking about the many problems which are being generated by Rhode Island's economic disaster. We now have so many bridges that have reduced weight limits; RIPTA has had to drastically change routes to accommodate these new weight restrictions. In fact, the Rhode Island Transit Authority with its already inadequate service will soon be making more cuts in routes and service because of funding. As a nation, we can bail out corporate entities, (private businesses) and yet not be able to save R.I.'s ONLY public transportation system? If my figures are correct (or if my memory serves me correctly) Rhode Island's debt is something like 450 Million Dollars.
(note) If I was a multi-millionaire or billionaire, it would be a far better thing I do, to invest in the economy of the smallest state in the U.S. than to continue to invest and reinvest in such failed banking and financial institutions.
As our two voices in the senate for our fine state, I am urging Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, Jack Reed and all your fellow law makers to PLEASE help design a bill to help R.I. climb out of the deep debt we are facing.
Please consider what will happen if RIPTA cannot provide service to the growing numbers of public transportation users. With the gas prices soaring ever higher, Rhode Islanders are going to soon be depending more and more on public transportation. As their ability to get to and from work becomes too financially burdensome, they will not be able to use the states only public transportation as an alternative, if RIPTA continues on the "road" it is taking, with routes and times being cut. This is a time when we should be talking about expanding service, not cutting it. Disabled, handicapped and elderly riders who depend greatly on affordable passes are in jeopardy of losing their ability to access bus service on a daily basis as well. Even if they are only required to pay 25-50 cents per ride, it would cripple and stagnate them into staying home more often and/or not experiencing opportunities to expand their horizons by participating in self help and other programs, as well as health maintenance appointments.
We need to start caring about main street, side street, and ALL of us living here. (ALL Rhode Islanders)
WHERE'S THE PORK? Was there any "earmarks" dedicated to Rhode Islands failing economy within the financial bailout bill recently passed by congress?
What are some ways to generate revenue or to save taxpayer's money from government waste?
How will we be able to pay for programs to help the low income families, poor, elderly & disabled?
A THOUGHT WORTH CONSIDERING;
Medical marijuana is a useful tool in fighting many illnesses. Why not outright "LEGALIZE" marijuana for recreational use? This would help eliminate the overcrowding of our courts, and alleviate prison overcrowding. Keeping marijuana illegal only hurts more people than it helps. Our economy needs a NEW REVENUE SOURCE. If we allow marijuana use (for adults only) even if we couldn't find a way to tax it, the money saved by not fighting it's use, would surely pay for much needed programs, which makes much more sense than this military style approach now used to eliminate this natural herbal remedy.
I think we should (as a state and as a country) finally end this outrageous "war on drugs," or at least decriminalize the use of marijuana. With legal marijuana, these users would no longer be such a high cost to the state. LEGALIZED MARIJUANA would eliminate the cost to taxpayers by eliminating the state's huge amount of money it takes to combat its distribution, sales and use. Our courts and jails need to be used for serious criminal offenses which truly merit prosecution. This money could better serve our state if used more appropriately.
We face much greater adverse affects from obesity, alcohol use, tobacco use, speeding motorists, accidental prescription drug overdoses, FINANCIAL RUIN due to failed economic policies of an out of touch and OUT OF CONTROL CONGRESS.
To criminalize the use of ANY particular recreational activity solely because of a biased non proven theory or fact is against our constitutional right to the pursuit of happiness.
