“It’s a Time to Listen, and to Obey the Laws of Arithmetic” is the title of an article in today’s New York Times by Harvard Professor Gregory Mankiw, who was chairman of President Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2003 to 2005. The article is incredibly patronizing and condescending. Here is the letter I sent to the Times.
I think it was very thoughtful of Gregory Mankiw, Harvard Professor and former Bush economic adviser, to give his patronizing little lecture to President-Elect Obama about how he should listen to his economic advisors, stating that "[t]hey will often give advice quite different from what will be coming from the Congressional leaders Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. To make sure the views of economic advisers are heard, they should have offices close to the Oval Office. The chief of staff should invite them to all the relevant meetings."
Professor Mankiw's column leads me to ask: Where was he while George W. Bush was busy bankrupting the country? Did he give Bush any lectures about obeying the "laws of arithmetic", or were these laws suspended after 9/11, along with parts of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?
(end of letter)
Talk about being an elitist! Some say Obama is one, but Mankiw certainly wasn’t talking to him “elitist to elitist” I especially liked the part about the proximity of the economic advisers’ offices to the Oval Office. Vice President Cheney’s office isn’t even in the White House, and the adviser Bush says he listens to the most is located somewhere in Heaven.
Poor Palin, she is just like a material things. The owner can program her like a robot and hold her like a puppet. She can't even know what she is saying, doing and she is really naive about government politics and the branches of it. She neve even knew what newspaper she is reading. How can you elect an official without knowledge like her. They are judging people, but they never judge themselves. I hope they can look at the mirror and ask themselves if they are really on the situation or just dreaming. Hopefully the voters should realize that POPULARITY is not enough, EXPERIENCE is not enough, SHE SAY/HE SAY is not enough because the most important is LISTENING, WATCHING, CLASSIFYING, SUMMARIZING and THINKING of all these steps how to vote for the right people.
Be yourself. Judge them as the way your teacher is grading you. No favoritism, because FAVORITISM is the best weapon that could kill you.
Beware of yourself. :)
Do the right thing not for yourself but for the rest of generation.
According to investment houses, the cost of the extraction of a barrel of crude oil is approximately $13 to $15. A large quantity of this oil is located under US Government (owned by the citizenry) lands. We are leasing "scrub" lands for dollars per acre and allowing oil companies to extract the real value (oil) from underneath (would they lease the land if there were no mineral rights) and sell it back to us. Also would they lease the land if there were no oil under it?
Since we own the land, and the EPA has released it for the oil companies to lease, why don't we just put a contract in place to extract this oil, transport the crude, refine the products and construct distribution facilites (that will be used for alternative fuel depots) in locations near major cities to facilitate the distribution of alternatives from the money saved by explioting what WE the people already own?
Would you rather pay for the oil that we already own??

Although many people have been able to listen to the first interview I've podcasted for Interview4Obama, there are still some who are getting chipmunks. I think I know what the problem is, but I'm wondering if there is a podcasting geek in this community who would be available for the occasional question.
you can check it out at http://madamaambi.blogspot.com
I've also posted a link via CyberEars...
I joined & emailed Podcasters for Obama, but there's not much happening there...
thanks very much

One way I can see Barack appealing to more women in this campaign is to see what qualities are touted in admiration of Hillary Clinton and have Barack publically meet and exceed those expectations, raising communication to a new level regarding same. Even my significant other loves Hillary, but she does so on mostly an emotional level, and chooses to ignore the many negatives that are already publically known about Hillary's positions and behaviors, both political and personal. If my SO had an alternative that while not a woman, supported the things she cares about and is wiling to entrust Hillary with, she might re-consider. But the appeal needs to go beyodn just a presentation of facts.
The issue that women seem to be battling with is how to support a man for president, when a woman is also running. Shouldn't women support a woman on principle? My answer to that is an emphatic NO.
Gloria Steinhem led the way back in the early 70's, forging ahead towards women's liberation. (I was 20 at the time.) Women who choose to vote for Hilary Clinton because they feel an obligation to vote for a woman because she's a woman have completely missed the point of women's liberation.
Women's liberation is about being liberated from making choices based on men's priorities. It's about being free to decide our own agendas, our own values, and our own paths. Above all, women's liberation is about trusting our intuitions and instincts about people, male and female.
Clearly, Barack Obama is manifesting the essence of liberation of all people, in that he is fueled by the courage to step up in the face of a still-prevalent national racism, discrimination, and judgmentalism based on age. The courage to step up is the central gem of the feminist movement. He is embracing that central core belief and manifesting hope combined with action.
All women want to be listened to. Barack Obama knows how to listen to women. We know he sincerely listens to his wife!
