It's has been a while since I gave you an update on the Yes We Can (Change our Destiny) project. But it is alive and well.
First, my observations on the beginning of President Obama's term in office thus far.
How anyone can say that President Obama is just another politician, or doing a poor job, or off to a bad start (all lines I've read in the press) is beyond me.
Look at all he has already done. And look at just one element of what he has done, Recovery.gov.http://www.recovery.gov/
Have you studied this yet? It's the website the administration created so that WE can track every dollar spent by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. When have you ever seen anything like this? This sort of transparency and accountability, in other words, this sort of honesty as opposed to lies.
So I ask you all to stand fervently behind our president. He needs you now more then ever. Can you feel the wind coming out of the sails of this presidency already, the lessening of passion and involvement? This is what I predicted, but I was not alone of course. Many of us feared this would happen. We need to fight back and spread the word so that we can once again recapture the phenomenon of the election, our own passion. How do we do that?
By inspiring ourselves again first and then others.
I personally on occasion watch my own video, "Yes We Can (Change our Destiny)" to re-inspires myself, to remind me how I felt on November 4th. And it feels good.
Do that yourself, then pass this video on to others, along with this blog post. My hope is still, that this video can be seen by the administration, or by an "Oprah" like person, someone who can get this out there in a big way. I created this for the world, for no gain and it has been surprising how hard it has been to simply give this away, to be a philanthropist. Now that I can separate myself more from those that sought to glom on to the presidency prior to the inaugural in hopes of self-aggrandizing or gain at the inaugural, my hope is that someone will pass this on to someone (six degrees of separation theory) and this will truly get out there in a big way so as to inspire millions.
Don't forget that WE made this happen and WE can change our destiny and our world, but we must stay involved and remain impassioned.
YES WE CAN (CHANGE OUR DESTINY). Pass it on!

Now that the election has been won, the real work begins. I invite anyone who is involved in volunteer-based tutoring/mentoring, as a leader, volunteer, donor, youth, or concerned citizen, to view the agenda of the Nov. 21 Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference, that will be held at the Chicago Field Museum. The links is http://www.tutormentorconference.org/agenda.asp
This conference has been offered every six months since 1994, and was attended by President-elect Obama in 1999. It's an effort to draw attention and resources to the organizations already offering volunteer-based tutoring/mentoring in Chicago and other cities, while helping the people involved connect and build support for each other.
If you cannot attend, connect with the T/MC and others in forums like http://tutormentorconnection.ning.com and use the resources at http://www.tutormentorconnection.org to support your own involvement, where ever you are.
If we connect enough citizens to youth who live in economic disadvantage with adults who can model a greater range of jobs and careers, and can help kids do the work needed to reach those careers, and keep these connections through the two terms of the Obama Presidency, the momentum build from such programs will continue in the years after Obama leaves office and will result in a significant closing of the economic and social gaps in this country. Congrats, even my 80 year old mother in Indiana voted for you which was no small feat. I am a college professor in Fort Lauderdale and I made sure all my students went out and voted but I want to tell you, I admire your managerial skills, more than anything. One of the main things is getting people involved, when a person believes what they are doing is their idea or benefit to them, they always perform much better. Never before have I seen this applied enmasse as you did with our volunteers and donaters, which brings me to my point. As a professor, I have noted that you already have a majority of the young people in college with you and now feeling part of our success. They are involved in your presidency and a year ago they did not even know who the vice president was. It is a entire new attitude from the young people, I love it. I have never seen this in 25 years of teaching.
My suggestion.. .offer a scholarship competition for the best energy efficient vehicle design, energy use in building and interior design, new energy sources and so on and so forth. Allow it developed at the university level in team effort so cross over skills in various programs can be utilized. Whenever ideas are exchanged between different majors thats when innovative new ideas occur Have a top 3-5 winner range, reward all members of the TEAM , faculty involved and school and do it annually. You have a fired up base, students as well as educators. The minds are here to help America solve our energy crisis, competition always leads to perfection, drive and purpose. The reward increases all of these.I am working in holographic technology we have already took 200 dollars worth of equipment and a couple months ago made a HD TV display the objects as holographs in front of you. This technology would decrease the need to travel by virtually putting someone in a conference room with complete interactivity without being there. If you watched CNN on election night they did this with an alternative method of broadcasting a live person.
This is here and it is available now.
Anyway, all America needs is a push in the educational system to develop it cheaply and enmasse.
If new jobs and new energy is what we need, we need new inovations and lets put our young minds in this manhanttan project and become the technology leaders of the world.
Hi,
Thanks for visiting.
I finally decided to jump into this campaign. I've never really been involved in a political campaign before. Usually I take the attitude of live and let live, but this election year I've had enough! I'm tired of the McCain/Palin ticket smearing Barack when the truth is so easy to find on www.factcheck.org. I'm sick and tired of seeing campaign ads that I can argue are false on TV. I've never been so thankful to have a DVR before because the blatant lies make me angry. I think we voters deserve the truth. I can't wait for the debates. I hope the moderators they've chosen do a good job. I really miss Mr Russert ~ I always felt that he wouldn't shy away from asking the tough questions.
So anyway, I decided to set up my personal my.barackobama.com page today. I also decided to get involved. I've signed up register voters the next 3 Saturdays to get my feet wet. I'm still leery of cold calling potential supporters or knocking on their doors, but maybe I'll be able to work up to that.
Please wish me luck the next 3 Saturdays!

If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream. - Martin Luther King, Jr.

I have met too many residents in the Paducah/McCracken County area that want to see Barak Obama elected president in 2008 not to feel the need for a serious movement in our area. Then, to go on line and find that the closest group to this marvelous city is almost 50 miles away was appalling! I immediately got on the phone with a few of those folks to say, “let us organize an effort in Paducah.” On February 12, 2008, we will sit down at ‘the kitchen table’ and see what kinds of things we can plan for our community to get us involved in the Obama movement. I hope others will see this post and say they want to help too. On February 13th I will let you know what that direction will be and swing the door wide open for you to come on in.
Some of us ‘boomers’ either don’t have the resources and connections of the established ‘politics of kingdoms’ to live the ideal ‘entitlement’ life we expected, some of us want to see the polluted and diluted ideologies of gone-by eras discarded, while others feel it is time to move on up to a higher level of integrity in our politicians. Whatever our motives, there are some people who are looking for a leader who discerns we are looking for and what is required for success in this newly emerging generation and who translates and verbalizes the language of both generations. Obama does that and more! So Paducah’s Obama supporters, look for our future directions and be prepared to “Join Our Fun!”
Hello Everyone,
I am writing because I am so excited about what is going on here in the Detroit area. Our kick-off event is March 21st, 6pm, at Centaur in Detroit. The cost is only $25/person and will give everyone a chance to meet/mingle with other Obama supporters and get involved in what we are trying to do here in the area. I hope everyone reading this is planning on coming and bringing everyone that you can.
I really feel strongly about this campaign and about our responsibility to get involved. So often presidential campaigns are far removed from everyday people and this is a campaign that is relying on normal people, people like us, to help. It's invigorating to be involved and to be supporting a candidate I really believe in. If we want to see a change we have to be willing to do whatever we can to produce that change. Apathy by citizens is what has hurt this country so far and what will hurt us more in the future if we don't get off our butts, step out of our comfort zone, and GET INVOLVED!!!
