While we're on the subject of Bush, let's check a few facts. When Bush took office, President Bill Clinton had left him a booming economy, record low unemployment and the first budget surplus in 30 years. Bush is leaving Obama something looking very much like the second Great Depression.I do not know whether all of Obama's stimulus packages are going to work. No one does. But let's give the man a chance. He's trying, but it's going to be a long, hard haul. After all, Bush and his economic wrecking crew had an eight-year head start.Visit Hatwigs
I’ve heard over and over today, that Barack Obama is historic because he is the first African-American to be President of the United States. Personally I couldn’t care less if his skin was white, black or green. To me it’s an historic day because he makes me care, because suddenly millions of people all over the world care. We listened to his amazing speech, actually listened. We heard his words, not just casually caught a sentence or two from occasional tidbits on TV. He touches me, us, out here in the world, as well as in living rooms all over America. That is historic! At least it hasn’t happened before in my lifetime.
I just played a few minutes of Bush Jr, inaugural speech from 2001 on YouTube. On a factual level he said almost exactly the same things President Obama did. But he never reached me, never made me believe it. He said things like “Our unity, our union, is the serious work of leaders and citizens in every generation, and this is my solemn pledge; I will work to build a single nation of justice and opportunity.” Sounds good, but not nearly as good as President Barack Obama's words. On Saturday September 27th, I decided to leave a little early from Lakeland Farmers and Flea Market to attend the Obama Rally and Voter Registration Drive at Lake Bonny Park in Lakeland Florida where Forest Whitaker was the celebrity guest speaker. In addition to displaying Obama flyers on the issues and providing useful information regarding early voting etc for local residents, I have been doing fundraising for Obama for America on saturdays at the market by requesting donations for my crocheted Obama hats, caps and other handmade creations.
Last Saturday September 20th, I also decided to leave the market a little earlier than normal and teamed up with another person to do three hours of door to door canvassing of unregistered voters in Lakeland. That allowed me to reach another group of people in another proactive way.
Similarly, attending the Obama Rally and Voter Registration Drive also gave me the opportunity to reach another segment of the population. By attending this event I was able to observe a younger and energetic crowd! The weather was beautiful and the youths were fired up. They were very enthusiastic!
Before heading to the stage where he made a significant but brief speech, Forest Whitaker stopped by the table where I had some of my handmade crocheted Obama hats and caps displayed. He commented that he liked them and had not seen any other hats or caps like those elsewhere. In a quick response, I mentioned that they are my own creations and I do them for fundraising for Obama for America. After leaving the rally, a young man who came to the event and was walking alongside Mr Whitaker in the entourage returned from the parking lot to the table and stated Forest Whitaker wanted to purchase one of the hats, but did not have time to do so earlier. I did not have any large sizes left, so the young man picked a small medium size crocheted Obama cap for Forest Whitaker.
I tip my hat to Forest Whitaker for all his great accomplishments on and off screen and for taking the time out to speak to the youths. They are the future.
Below is a link to an article from the Lakeland Ledger about the event. It is encouraging to see young people are interested and involved in this campaign.

There's a state law regulating what you can wear to the polls. If you wear anything that displays the likeness of a candidate, you will be turned away from the polls on November 4, Election Day.
The law was designed to keep candidates or parties from interfering or distracting voters during the voting process. So that means campaign signs, buttons, hats, t-shirts, lapel pins, bracelets, that endorse any candidate is not allowed within 40 feet of an entrance to a polling place.

**MAJORITY OF PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO OBAMA CAMPAIGN**
Elections will be in less than 100 days! To help me reach my fundraising goals I am supplementing my online fundraising for Obama for America with offline activities, most recently at a produce and flea market. Many flea market goers are looking for necessities at the dirt cheap prices.
But I thought it was still a good idea to get out and set up a table at rustic Lakeland Farmers & Flea Market to reach more people offline. Customers who made a donation received one of my handmade items created for fundraising.
Flyers (including one in spanish) on Barack Obama's positions on key issues were also placed on the table for customers and those just browsing or passing through. I found the flyers at Barack Obama's website and all I had to do was print them. Here is the link for the flyers: http://www.barackobama.com/downloads
For the table display I included a binder with all the flyers encased in individual plastic covers, so if I ran out of any flyers, a permanent one would be available for customers to read.
To attract attention I wore my very visible Obama '08 tee shirt and covered the weather beaten wooden table with a bright red plastic table cloth.

This is going to be short. I did not intepret Barack Obama's fathers day speech as talking down to black men, but I can understand why some may view it that way. The way a person interprets a message depends on the person's mindset. Those who can see the small picture as well as the large picture can understand both sides. As in the case of Jesse Jackson's remark, the media often like to make a big to do about nothing much. All black people are not the same. Even black men separated from their kids are not monolithic. Fox News (and the like) is also not fair and balanced. But thats not news to many.
Of course no one is perfect, but Barack Obama on the other hand has the ability to inspire all types of people, lead, and move this country forward.

Apparently, the burden of supplying 22 states in time for Super Tuesday is starting to lessen because I just got notification that my long backlogged order for 600 bumper stickers and 50 yard signs are being USPS expressed to me today. (I am in post- super Tuesday state of Hawaii).
For stuff that the store doesn’t sell and other material you can do today using supplies from Office Max/ Office Depot, there is lots of stuff you can do yourself if you have an ink jet printer and some time. Note- these are weather resistant, not weatherproof.

I arrived at a crowded Derry office this morning in time for “Hat Day,” a weekly Friday tradition. Staffers and volunteers donned winter hats of every size and color to spice up a morning jam-packed with phone calls.
In the bedroom community of Derry, mornings and evenings are the busiest times for the office, and the office frequently uses all available phone lines to reach as many people as possible.
A number of volunteers previously featured on the NH Blog frequent the Derry office: Bill and Katy Gehling, Stacy Hinkley, and Andrew Mack, Jr.
Join them in the Derry office at 8 Birch Street, or give us a call at 603-437-2008.
Next stop: Concord.
