Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss is a few points from Democrat Jim Martin for U.S. Senate in current polling in the Georgia U.S. Senate runoff race. Senate Runoff in 35 Language Translations. Runoff election to be held Tuesday, 2 DEC 2008.
Any help you can give polling voters is greatly appreciated. Democrats want to win this race!
The more Democratic Senators in office the easier it will be for President Elect Obama's economic policies to be implemented without a chance of a partisan filibuster.

We have ended another week, and have many more to go until Election Day. I want to continue encouraging you to donate to Obama for President and also encourage you to buy his products and display them proudly. You never know how many people will decide to vote for him by knowing that you and others support him so proudly--they will feel that they are not alone.
Earlier in the week I was having a conversation with a male co-worker who has decided (and told me so) that he will vote for John McCain because Hillary did not win the nomination. Will he vote for him if Hillary is on the ticket as VP? I don't know. But, we argued about South Carolina. I told him that SC was going to become a swing state and vote democrat this year, in favor of Barack Obama. The primary turnout showed support for him in all but 2 counties--yes we can! To make a long story short, he told me that SC would vote republican because our state is uneducated, largely majority white, and only cares about three things--religion, guns, and abortion. I say we should prove him wrong. If we all educate others about Obama and spread how we feel, we can really have a major effect on others. So let's do as I encouraged you above--donate and display.
On another note, please visit and encourage others to visit www.fightthesmears.com to learn the truth about our future President of America. Have a good weekend.
So we went to open the new Hampton office yesterday and some amazing things happened. First of all, I met this astonishing high school student who was as well informed about politics as any adult I've ever met. His whole family were Hillary supporters, and he was too young to vote, but he had gotten his mom to drop him off at the headquarters so he could work for the candidate in whom he most believed. He said he'll vote for Barack in his *second* term! We had a script to use that was brief and somewhat bland. Our youngest volunteer modified his. He went online and printed out the Senator's position papers on every issue and would ask undecided voters if he could help them with answers to any questions they had. We finally had to suggest that not everybody wanted to talk about the election all morning on a sunny Saturday, so he cut it back, but it was just so fine to see such enthusiasm and you could hear the people he called responding well to him.
The less good thing was the surprising number of middle-aged adults we called who knew there was an election on Tuesday but didn't understand what it was for! I spoke to people who said they knew you voted for the President in November but they didn't understand what they were supposed to do next week. As a Social Studies teacher, this was somewhat disheartening. We explained it and they seemed genuinely happy to know what was going on and they said they'd vote, but this is 2008. How does this happen in a democracy?
The thing that broke our hearts were the number of people to whom we spoke who said they really wanted to support the Senator but they "didn't want to get him killed." Lots and lots of black women and some black men are afraid to hope because they've seen this thing go bad before. We explained that he and Michelle had weighed that risk and decided to go forward and that, if he were willing to risk it, how could we stand in his way? But it was so disheartening; we all stopped for a second to talk about it. There was a wonderful lady there who had been a JFK campaign staffer back in Boston and she talked to us about her experiences and about how God had not given us a spirit of fear. She and the young man were kind of bookends for me. And the Lord had a ram in the bush.
One of the last calls I made was to a lady who was in her 80s, married to a man in his early 90s. She answered the phone and said her husband was at work! They were going to the polls, she said, but couldn't make it to the VA Beach rally but she "wanted the Senator to know something." Her message was that she and her family were lifting him up in prayer and that he didn't have to "carry that albatross alone." She said he had studied and prepared himself for this time and this hour and she had faith that he would be successful. She said he embodied America and, even though it was kind of selfish, she thought that, because he could make it, *her* 40 year old son could be successful, too! I was just blown away. We all stopped and marvelled. If a white woman in her 80s can be inspired by Senator Obama to believe in the American dream for HER child, this campaign has the ability to speak to anyone in this country.
So, I found ONE!!!!!
Went over to officexxxx and with the help of some great supporters, we were able to make a nice, blue Obama '08 sticker! If there are more people in Hampton, who'd like some, shoot me an email. I'll just need sheets of 8 1/2 by 11 bumper sticker paper.
There was an excellent turnout tonight at Posh Dolche in downtown Norfolk. Women from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton, and Portsmouth were among those who attended. The meeting was hosted by the Norfolk-based Women for Obama group, and moderated by Daun Hester of the Norfolk City Council. It was both informative and entertaining. We discussed how we will move forward in preparation for Tuesday's primary, fundraising, upcoming events, and we shared testimonies of how/why we became involved in this campaign. There was even a former Republican in the crowd! A few enthusiastic male supporters showed up too. GObama '08 !
Thank you to all of the ladies whose purchases contributed to my personal fundraising campaign. You all helped me raise $124 of my $500 goal tonight!
Anyone wishing to donate can click the "Donate" link on the thermometer located on my page, or, better yet, start a page of your own, and spread the word while you raise money for Obama. Or even better still, do both! : D
I look forward to seeing you all again (and many more supporters) Saturday night at the "bar crawl" that will be hosted by the Karam's of Virginia Beach, at Chicho's Pizza (see "events" listing). Look out for more information on future events.
Hope+Action=Change
We'll be there From 9am-9pm every night... swing on by!!
“Life is unfair for too many,” said Patty MacKenzie, a founder of the Hampton Community Coalition (HCC), a nonprofit community action group that assists struggling families.
Born to a family of teachers, Patty followed in her parents’ footsteps and taught for 10 years. As a teacher, she encountered many students who were ill-prepared for school because they lacked the necessary support structure at home. Working with other community activists, Patty helped found HCC 15 years ago to address the root causes of the struggles faced by these students.
HCC focuses on helping families weather tough periods of transition, providing guidance for families facing foreclosures, coordinating projects such as gathering and distribution of food and household items, and organizing after-school programs to keep youth on the right track.
In addition to using her organizational abilities to benefit her community, Patty has volunteered for political campaigns for the past few cycles. This year, she is serving as a town captain for Barack because she believes he represents a new way of doing business in Washington.
“His background as a community organizer is particularly appealing,” she said. “He is intimately familiar with problems addressed by organizations like HCC which would make him a president with special insight into the social problems plaguing the country.”
Patty is confident that Barack would be able to translate his life experience into a governing approach because of his ability to reach across the aisle and bring people together. She first began thinking about Barack’s potential for unifying the country while going door-to-door for Carol Shea-Porter in 2006. She recalls:
As I canvassed, I met many independent voters who would cite Barack Obama as an example of the kind of political leader they would support… This gives me confidence that Barack will win over independents and bring unifying leadership to the White House.
Today, Patty and Congresswoman Shea-Porter are working together again, defying the same conventional thinking that told them they couldn’t win in 2006.
Patty said:
We shocked the pundits here in New Hampshire in 2006. Now, we can surprise the nation by electing Barack and bringing the change we fought for in the last election to its logical destination: the White House.

From his early days of opposition to the Iraq war to his place at the forefront of congressional efforts to bring our troops home, Barack has demonstrated consistent leadership on the defining issue of our day. After two weeks of continued debate in Washington ending in stalemate, Iraq remained on everyone’s mind as Barack visited the Granite State on Thursday and Friday
Sunapee
Barack’s visit began in Sunapee, for a lakefront ice cream social. As more than 500 people waited for Barack’s arrival, I spoke with Michael R., a former U.S. Marine and Iraq war veteran who had spent the 2004 election in Fallujah.
Michael brought his Purple Heart medal with him, hoping to catch Barack’s eye after the event for a one-on-one conversation. Having challenged visiting presidential candidates that supported the war in question-and-answer settings since the campaign season began, Michael felt encouraged by Barack’s early opposition and came to hear the Senator's plan to end the war.
Carrying his medal in a red leather folder, Michael handed it to Barack and shared his thoughts about his combat experience.
Hampton
The next morning, the gymnasium of the Marston Elementary School in Hampton filled to capacity with over 600 attendees. The morning rain left the gymnasium hot and muggy, but the crowd welcomed Barack with energy.
Barack received enthusiastic applause for urging the crowd to pressure their Republicans senators to vote to end the war in Iraq.
Manchester
The sun came out from under the clouds for Barack’s last stop in Manchester, where he spoke before nearly 700 in the Queen City’s historic millyard.
Anne from Concord, after thanking Barack for “decoupling the war in Iraq from the war on terror,” asked him about his plans to defuse violent extremism. With clarity and force, Barack promised to double American foreign aid and devote attention to providing the millions of children exposed to radicalism in madrasas throughout the Islamic world due to lack of better educational options.
Barack closed the trip with a promise to keep faith with America’s veterans, taking the Bush Administration to task its failure to honor service members.
Another successful sweep through New Hampshire completed, Barack lingered to shake a more hands on his way out. As the crowd converged on Barack to catch a glimpse and say a few words, I caught up with Francis Warman, who had used the time for his question to treat Barack and the crowd to a musical interlude.
“I’m a product of the 60s and he is just such a break from the fights my generation seems to keep reliving,” he said, “this generational schism, I believe, helped us repeat the mistakes of Vietnam by going into Iraq… It’ll take someone like Barack, who transcends those generational fights, to heal these old wounds.”
