Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss is a few points from Democrat Jim Martin for U.S. Senate in current polling in the Georgia U.S. Senate runoff race. Senate Runoff in 35 Language Translations. Runoff election to be held Tuesday, 2 DEC 2008.

Any help you can give polling voters is greatly appreciated. Democrats want to win this race!

The more Democratic Senators in office the easier it will be for President Elect Obama's economic policies to be implemented without a chance of a partisan filibuster.

Last week, I lost my position that I've had for 12 years. I went to go early absentee vote in Greenville and noticed that the Soil and Water Conservation position was available and that there are no candidates runnig for the position.

Obama Chooses Biden as Running Mate

WASHINGTON — Senator Barack Obama has chosen Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware to be his running mate, turning to a leading authority on foreign policy and a longtime Washington hand to fill out the Democratic ticket, Mr. Obama announced in text and e-mail messages early Saturday.

Mr. Obama’s selection ended a two-month search that was conducted almost entirely in secret. It reflected a critical strategic choice by Mr. Obama: To go with a running mate who could reassure voters about gaps in his résumé, rather than to pick someone who could deliver a state or reinforce Mr. Obama’s message of change.

Mr. Biden is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and is familiar with foreign leaders and diplomats around the world. Although he initially voted to authorize the war in Iraq — Mr. Obama opposed it from the start — Mr. Biden became a persistent critic of President George W. Bush’s policies in Iraq.

How I got here.

The story of how I got involved with the Obama campaign is an interesting one. It actually started off with Bill Clinton. Personally, I am a big fan of Bill. Thats why I got extremely excited when he came to Greenville to give a speech.

I wanted to see him speak, so I found out as much as I could about the situation. It was my dad that told me they were looking for volunteers to help with the event. I signed up at once. I didn't end up doing very much, but I was able to stand almost directly in front of him when he was speaking. And whenever he came around to shake hands with people, I was there.

Bill Clinton has soft hands.

I left that event with a great memory, and an offer for an internship with the Clinton Campaign. I was somewhat confused about what to do now. I believed that an internship would be a great opportunity, but I was an Obama-fan. So, I decided to see if there was an Obama office in Greenville. There was. And I went and asked whether or not they had any kind of internship opportunities. They did. And so I worked for three weeks in the Greenville Obama office during the Democratic Primary.

I spent hours upon hours canvassing, phone banking, entering data into the computer, and getting lost in rural areas. At the end of the NC primary Obama had won, and I was on cloud 9. As I was leaving the Greenville office for the last time one of the feild workers there suggested that I apply for the Obama Organizing Fellows program. I wasn't exactly sure what that was, but I applied. I got accepted, and I received 3 days of intense training so that I could work the general election.

So now I am stationed in Greenville, NC once again. The campaign hasn't really gotten off the ground there yet, but it's coming together.

The past few months have been a great experience for me, and I love where I'm at now. Not many 16-year-olds have had the chances that I've had.

My backstage experience with the Senator from Illinois….

On April the 15, I got a call asking if I would speak and introduce Senator Obama at his rally in Greenville NC on the 17th. I was shell shocked to say the least as I don’t know how or why I got selected. I’m not affiliated with the campaign in any way; I’m just a poor unemployed redneck that had volunteered to hand out flyers occasionally. Since I’ve turned into the Michelin man over the last few years I’ve become an extremely shy person so when I got that call I was hesitant to have to go up on stage in front of thousands. Even so, I agreed and I began to write my little spiel. If nothing else, I would get to vent my frustrations about the silliness in this campaign and I also thought it might be an interesting experience. I was right. There were so many experiences and so many things that happened during that event that it would be hard to relay them all. There was my angry little tirade in front of 7500+ people which no one really listened to. There were the random encounters with austere secret service folks and random staffers sprinting around with their trusty blackberries in hand shouting orders. Finally, there was the multitude of fans swooning in an almost orgasmic orgy of adoration. The place was so packed, so loud, and the energy was so high that it felt more like a rock concert than a political rally. Even with all that I’d have to say that the thing that interested me the most was how the senator acted when he was not in front of the cameras or within earshot of any possible voters. Obama in Greenville NC

I'm so super psyched! I had the honor to meet Senator Obama today at his campaign rally for North Carolina. I volunteered to register voters and work at the Obama for President office here in Greenville. I love politics, and I really believe that this incredible man is going to change this country, and restore every one's faith in our government and our elected officials. I felt like it was my civic duty as an American to help out in any way I could. We're witnessing history in the making right now, and I want to be able to tell my children and future grandchildren, that I was a part of getting the first black president elected. The staff and volunteers arrived at the colosseum around 12pm. I got assigned the job of helping the handicapped and elderly through a specific area to be searched and wheeled in ahead of everyone. The venue had a max capacity of 9,000 people. The doors didn't open till 4pm, and Obama was scheduled to take the stage around 6pm. Greenville is a pretty small city compared to Raleigh or Charlotte, so I honestly thought that everyone would get in. . . WRONG! They reached capasity and had to put about 1200 people in a special "overflow" area where they could watch the speach on closed caption tv. When I arrived, I was in complete awe. The lines were extremely long, and more people kept coming to lengthen the already over burdened line. There were people at the front of the line that arrived with blankets and backpacks at 8 am to make sure they got a good seat. I can't describe the positive and overwhelmingly joyus feeling I got just...

Obama/Early Voting Event, Greenville

Hi all,I am an intern with the Obama for America headquarters in Greenville and next Thursday (April 17th) we are organizing an event to encourage early voting and to show support for Barack Obama. The tentative time for the event is from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are in the process of organizing transportation to early voting spots and getting food and, hopefully, live music. The location has yet to be determined but we are trying to organize it on ECU's campus. I will post our progress on my blog, so be sure to check back. Recap of Michelle Obama's trip to Upstate SC

As my feet are recovering from traipsing across the Upstate in pointy-toed high heels, my mind keeps drifting back to the special afternoon we shared with Michelle Obama yesterday.

Over 300 women (and a smattering of men) turned out to Bethlehem Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC to hear Michelle and several inspiring women speak at the church's "Salute to Courageous Women."

After Bethlehem's senior pastor, Rev. Dr. Philip M. Baldwin, kicked off the program with an invocation, nationally renowned gospel singer Darlene McCoy rallied the crowd as we feasted upon delectable baked chicken. (I've endured hundreds of l'affaires de rubber chicken. This, friends, was no rubber chicken.)

As the day was dedicated to courageous women, two ladies from the Upstate shared their testimonies of overcoming formidable difficulties.

Special guest Mary Woods described working to establish a first-rate school at Bethlehem Baptist. The school now serves students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.

The program's second special guest, Jacqueline Freeman, shared her story of survival: Freeman is a widow who overcame breast cancer and lives with chronic disease while raising her teenage daughter. Jackie's gusto and determination were truly inspiring!

Following these stories of courage, educator Katie Kluttz took the stage and introduced Michelle to the crowd.

Michelle shared stories of courageous women she met in the African village of Siaya during her travels to Kenya with Barack last September. Many of these older women, "the Grandmothers of Siaya," serve as primary caregivers to their grandchildren. Michelle challenged us women in the crowd to take care of ourselves, band together, and mend wounds with other women in our lives.

"As the Grandmothers of Siaya teach us, we cannot afford to neglect one another because often times we are all that we have; and in the worse times we are all that we need. So, as I close I ask that, if there is any one in this room who has a broken relationship with another woman; if there is a woman in your life that you have not communicated with because of ego or embarrassment or jealousy or fear of rejection; a sister or a friend or a mother or a child who could or should be a part of your community..."

The "Tribute to Courageous Women" event also offered an ideal setting to invite Upstate women to take part in Women for Obama. (Click here to sign up for Women for Obama in the Palmetto State!)

While the "Salute to Courageous Women" was inspiring, Michelle's visit to the Phillis Wheatley Community Center in Greenville, SC was a heck of a lot of fun. The Center is a safe haven for children of all ages to dance, sing, paint, and play in a variety of after-school and summer programs.

When we arrived, one of the Center's choirs welcomed Michelle with a Gospel-style rendition of Ben Harper's song "I Believe in a Better Way." (The lyrics were altered slightly to specifically address Barack's message of hope.) Many of the children were small, but they sure could belt out some big tunes!

After the serenade, Michelle sat down and talked to a group of preteen girls who are enrolled in the Center's summer program. During the gab session, the girls talked with Michelle about their goals, thoughts about college, and ... bullies.

Michelle didn't have too much of a problem with bullies in school partly because "[she] was tall and [she] had a big brother." She encouraged the girls to talk to people nicely and not to put down folks who are different -- whether they're different because they're the smartest kids in the class or because they do something in a different manner than other kids.

As Michelle and the girls left the room together for a tour of the Center, one young girl (who hopes to be a hair stylist when she grows up) turned to the future First Lady of the United States and inquired, "Is your hair natural?"

"Are you asking if I have weave?" Michelle said with a grin. She informed the girls that her hair is, in fact, au natural.
