Hi,
I'm in Bordeaux France for 3 days. Drinking Grands Crus, champagne and speaking about President Obama. It's crazy french love him. It's completly different from my previous trip 4 years ago. President Obama makes french love the USA!
Before the US presidential election, the French media repeatedly affirmed that a large majority of the adult French population backed candidate Barack Obama.
A confirmed Democrat and fervent Obama supporter, my boss gave me an Obama '08 bumper sticker I put on the back of my tiny blue Fiat.
From then on, as I toodled around the South of France I began noticing people honking at me. I first thought I was doing something wrong, maybe I was driving too slow, or one of my tires was flat. Were my rear lights on the blink or my coat belt stuck in the door and hanging out for all to see?
I finally realized that it wasn't me they were honking at, but at my bumper sticker. I was a motorized Obama Barometer!
France was definitely honking for Obama.
Europe’s biggest agricultural producers are taking up new incentives for solar power to supplement farm incomes as well as help meet renewable energy targets.
The solar panels installations that are called integrated because they are built into the roof rather than superimposed, is booming in France thanks to legislation creating 20-year contracts with strong incentives to sell electricity to the grid. Government guarantees of long-term electricity contracts at an inflation-linked “feed-in” tariff, helped win the scheme bank support. The investment means constructing five enormous sheds covered by 36,000 square meters of solar panels with a capacity to generate 4.5 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 4,000 homes. At 0.55 Euros per kWh, integrated solar photovoltaic panels generate nearly twice the revenue of ground-mounted and superimposed solar panels. Another example is a group of 77 cattle breeders in the Aveyron region of south-west France, who formed a company, SAS Adder, to manage the construction of 33,0000 square meters of integrated roof panels on their farms.France whose goal is to have renewable energy make up 23 percent of its energy consumption by 2023 is imitating Germany, Europe’s leader in solar and wind power. The built-in technology is encouraged by the authorities as aesthetically acceptable, in a country where wind farms have been sharply criticized as eyesores.
With US know how, ingenuity, and innovation this could be applied by not only US farmers but by large commercial buildings also.

October 24, 2006 -- A senior French DGSE -- Direction générale de la sécurité extérieure -- intelligence officer has told WMR that Lebanon's ex-Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was killed in a car bombing arranged by Israel's Mossad. The revelation from French intelligence is significant as the French government of Jacques Chirac joined the Bush administration and the neo-con policy establishments in Washington and Israel in blaming Syria for the attack. According to the DGSE officer, Israel and its American backers wanted to blame Syria for the assassination of the popular Lebanese leader in order to blame Syria for the attack thus forcing the popular Lebanese revolt that saw the withdrawal of Syrian forces. That left Lebanon defenseless for the "Clean Break" attack launched by Israel, with US support, against Hezbollah and Lebanon's infrastructure.

Does this not look like one big circle of tension to you? It sure does to me, and it’s one that is growing far too tight in tension now. As a result, it could only be a matter of days, weeks, or months before one nation pulls the trigger to ignite World War III (WWIII).Sources:1) http://www.thejerusalemgiftshop.com/israelnews/politics/80-political/335-warnings-from-world-leaders-all-within-72-hours-.html2) http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=amM6gBY9JgJA&refer=home3) http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iyTh4daEIukZscHQWC558dEr3x5gD94BR7FG04) http://www.thejerusalemgiftshop.com/israelnews/israel-news/83-israeli-news/407-israel-war-on-iran-on-the-radar.html

Dateline: ParisNo, make that Dateline: Obama Soiree. The fetes for Barack Obama spilled out of American restaurants and onto cobblestone rues, the town hall of the 3rd Arrondissement (where they were showing American movies all night), and the enormous Palais de Congres! O-ba-ma! O-ba-ma! And this was early in the evening before we knew for sure that Democrat Obama won the presidency, though the vibe had steadily been coming and growing. The Obama vibe had been laying a solid foundation in the months leading up to our man's big electoral bang.
Gosh, it is cold! I am just getting used to my surroundings now and taking in the different atmosphere to home and I never realised it would be so cold, even though the sun is piercingly bright. What is causing the problem is the wind, the kind I haven't felt in England for a long time. Now I can see why they call Chicago the Windy City. It's a wind that lashes the unsuspecting body, totally negating the effect of the sun, and if it's coming full frontal, that's quite another experience!
Last night when I had finished my third stint of phone banking, I got talking to someone sitting next to me, a young man called Dan, who couldn't have been more than about 28 years old. We clicked immediately because of our zany sense of humour, easy laughter and irreverent manner, and he kept marvelling at how I was there in the thick of it, though not being an American. But I was not really unique, as I discovered. I met people from Denmark, from the Netherlands (who thought Barack was so 'inspirational') from France and from Italy, who were there every day for many hours each day. Even though the Italian could hardly speak English, he was enjoying his data entry which he did continuously without a murmur. It was pretty motivational to see the level of commitment among all the volunteers, both national and international, regardless of the amount of work they had to do, and it was never-ending. For one person to engender such passion, loyalty, commitment and enthusiasm from across the world, he really had to be very special.
Recently, the McCain-Palin Ticket has been making hay and headway, calling Senator Obama's tax plan a "redistribution of wealth," taxes hurtful to the economy, and even "socialism." But what the Republican ticket fails to point out is that over the last eight years, Americans have been paying higher taxes than even taxpayers in pseudo-socialist countries do and gettting a lot less return on their money.
Every time you pull up to a gasoline pump, the differnence that you pay for gas now and what you paid say five years ago, that is a Bush-McCain Tax. If you factor in the billions that these huge oil conglomerates get in the way of tax breaks, that is a pretty big tax. To the consumer the increase in gas about double what it was four years ago, hence half of that is a Bush-McCain tax.
Every time that you go to the grocery store, the difference that you pay for the food you buy to feed your family now and what you paid four years ago, that is a Bush-McCain Tax. Although many of McCain's supporters might find that difference modest, average Americans would beg to differ.
Those of us with jobs where we were lucky enough to put some money away for our retirement, I invite you to look at your IRA or 401 (k) accounts. Some have lost up to half in value in the past four weeks. The difference between what was in your retirement account a month ago and what is in it right now, that is the Bush-McCain Tax. Undoubtedly, Bush and McCain's deregulation policy caused the historic financial meltdown of the last few weeks, and what are lost in their recovery plan are the small investors who were looking to build a nestegg in order to live the last few years of their lives in modest comfort. The Bush-McCain Tax took care of that.
Those of us who have been lucky enough to travel have seen an historic drop in the value of our dollar. The difference between what your dollar bought five years ago and what it buys today, that is the Bush-McCain Tax. The exhorbitant Federal Deficit has caused the value of your hard earned money to plummet. That deficit is directly related to the tax giveaways to the wealthiest of Americans over the last eight years.
Jobs are so hard to come by and unemployment is skyrocketting due to the financial crisis brought about by lax regulation and irresponsible governance forcing workers to take lower paying jobs (if they are lucky enough to find one). The difference between what a worker could have gotten in terms of pay and benefits five years ago and what he gets now, that again is the Bush-McCain Tax. Americans are getting paid less for their hard earned labor because the current administration which the McCain Palin ticket backs gives tax giveaways to companies who ship our best jobs overseas. Everytime one of our workers looks at his paycheck and finds it lacking, that is a direct result of the Bush-McCain Tax.
Not only that, most municipalites have to pay more for all of these services, oil, gas, and even for the uninsured who go into emergency rooms (because we have no comprehensive healthcare system in the US) forcing local governments to raise property and sales taxes. The difference between what those taxes were five years ago and what they are now, that is the Bush-McCain Tax.
Taking all of this into account, the Bush-McCain Tax probably constitutes a tax rate of about another 30-40% of your income on top of the taxes that you are paying now, putting most of the tax paying public well above tax rates of most European countries where "socialism" still reigns.
This is why I am voting Obama-Biden. The Bush-McCain Tax is simply way too high. If McCain wins the election we may all have to start thinking about moving to a more friendly "tax friendly" environment, I don't know, like France.

The other day, I met my friends Fiachna and David at one of our favorite little cafes in "Little Africa," or the Paris neighborhood called Chateau Rouge. We sat together outside, drinking coffees and pastis, and watched the bustling world go by. At one point, a woman was walking towards us on the sidewalk, and I noticed that not only was she wearing a t-shirt with a big Obama logo, but she also wore a black beret with an Obama logo tilted jauntily to the side. I caught her eye. She looked at me a bit sideways, not fully confident, as she continued past us on the sidewalk. I raised my hand in a thumbs up, and she smiled.I'm in Paris, mind you. Four years ago, I'm not sure that you would ever have seen French people walking down the street wearing the campaign garb of an American presidential candidate. Based on the incredible success of Obama's appearances in Europe a few months ago, I think you can see that the rest of the world is poised in anticipation of the results of this election. It has world focus, and people from Baghdad to Paris are as emotionally attached to its outcome as we are. Early in the primaries, when my baker noticed my bad French accent and asked me if I was German, I answered that I was American. His eyes lit up and then he did a frowning thumbs down gesture and said, "Juhorjuh Boosh." But he smiled broadly when with a thumbs up he cried, "Eelahree Cleentone!" I didn't have the heart to tell him that she was not my favorite choice for a candidate. It would have been complicated for me to find the French I needed. But I suppose I could have simply said, "Je préfère une femme, mais non cette femme."America has been a world force in a negative way in the last eight years, especially when it plays its self-ordained role of imperial policeman, warlord and jailer. Yet it has also played a hugely positive role, because there are many Europeans I have encountered who still dream of seeing America. They want to stand on a beach in California, look up at the forbidding sky scrapers of New York, stare at the uninterrupted expanse of Texas, ride a horse through ghost towns in Arizona, and gaze at the gaudy 24-hour glitter and listen to the ka-ching of Las Vegas. What an opportunity we have during this election and afterwards, to live up to that dream. I traveled to Paris with my 80-year-old Dad and my brother soon after 9/11, and no matter where we went, be it to ask a question at the Metro or in restaurants or tourist attractions, when the French found out we were Americans, there were grand gestures of concern and, well, fraternité. They felt for us, and told us so, in language and kind gestures. How terrible that we stepped on this graciousness with the jack boot of a typical maligning right wing horse shit tactic like "Freedom Fries," just because those damn socialist Frenchies had de gaulle to say no to mighty BushCo's fake and illegal war with Iraq. I have always been deeply embarrassed to be associated with such ignorance. It is the same brand of ignorance that McCain and Palin are feeding and stoking in hopes they can move the ignorant to vote for them. I don't care how much Bush and Cheney and Rove snicker at their supreme court supported, voter suppressed and electronic voting machine manipulated robbery of the 2004 election, how slimy it must feel to know, deep down inside, that the only way you won was by breaking laws and telling lies to stupid people. If Obama wins, it will be because he won the hearts and minds of the people, without chicanery. I believe that makes him the better man.Three days ago it took me a few hours to research and complete my absentee ballot for the election. I had to vote against the despicable ploys of fanatically religious people who want to declare that marriage is only between a man and a woman. I had to vote against xenophobic anti-Hispanic measures too. I liked it when I read later in one guy's blog that he was a bit disappointed with the ballot, because "Fuck No" wasn't one of the vote choices. I can relate. My next step was to go to the post office and get the ballot mailed. As with most experiences for an expat in a foreign country, I had to figure out how the post office worked. There's always a line in my post office, but that day, there were two lines. I stood in the line I usually stand in, while I watched the other line to see what was up. There was a gal behind a small counter and she seemed to be dealing with quick mailing purchases, so I switched to her line. She was helping a woman fill out a form. I watched them for a while too, still worried that I might have chosen the wrong line, as I worry in the grocery store, when I try and decide which line will move faster, make my decision, and still watch the other lines so I can chastise myself if I made the wrong decision. It was then that I realized I was standing in front of a very cool self-service machine, where you can place your envelope on a scale at the top, and then press buttons to determine the necessary postage, pay and then get a sticker at the end to place on your envelope. It was easy as pie, and within moments I had a sticker for 1.70 Euro. But, where was the mailing slot? I was sure there would be at least three, one for Paris, one for other parts of France, and the third for étrangers, or foreign countries. I walked to the front of the post office, to the back, and then outside. Nothing. So, I returned to my line and the woman behind the desk noticed me and I held up my precious envelope and asked her where I could put it. She took it from me, looked down at it, and then back up to me. She said in French, "This is your vote." and then glanced to the other woman she had been waiting on. They both looked at me, expectantly. I said, "Oui....Pour Obama!" They both relaxed, and smiled.I bowed to the envelope, my hands in prayer form, and said, "C'est très important!" and they nodded solemnly. I have a feeling my envelope received more focused attention than most envelopes that day. Vive la Fraternité.

I was searching CNN.com on Friday and I came across some videos of the intrenational community's response to Barack Obama. The news reporter mentioned in this video that if Germans could vote for our next American President, then 70% would vote for Barack Obama. After these last eight years, we have squandered so much of the international support and rapport that we had as a nation, and gave little second thought to the world's opinion as we invaded Iraq.
After September 11th, with the entire world's sympathy from that tragedy, we woefully mishandled that support and wiped the dust off our feet from the international world. Perhaps with the election of Barack we can begin The End of Anti-Americanism [at least for now]. Although Barack is too humble to brag about this, I hope the campaign can communicate this very important advantage to a Barack presidency.
Globalization – defined as the intertwining of our American economy with the economies of other countries - endangers American national security, economy and sovereignty.
There are many who would love to destabilize the American economy and lifestyle. Hence, China sends us poison food, poison toys, and poison medications. These evil deeds may be blamed on one person by China. This person will be reported "killed" and the event ends. No further repercussions or clarification of the issue.
Americans define themseles as moral. Yet, American museums purchase from China well-preserved human bodies, without evidence of what caused death, and display the humans in American galleries. Americans are awestruck - yet, no outcry for the in-humane system which allows this to happen.
Americans, like McCain, must quit isolating France, which is closer to our values, and work towards international unity.
