Get out of Afghanistan, pass meaningful healthcare and if it fails, move on.
Regulate financial industries. Jobs, Jobs, and Jobs.
Stop building unwanted bridges and schools in Afghanistan. We need them at home.
The terrorist are not warriors. They have no army to blow up. We give them creditability calling their gang an army.
The FBI and CIA can chase them. Use the law to prosecute them, jails to hold them and the electric chair to kill them.
Stop spending our precious resources outside of the country and spend it at home.
Don't become "Bushed!"
Stand by the progressives, discipline the blue dogs and bring bills to the floor. If they don't pass it is OUR job (not yours alone) to fix it.
Oh, most important to you. You're not only slipping in the polls, you are losing your base. I love ya, but sometimes action is better than wimpy results!!
Stop enjoying yourself soo.... much. We are living hard lives and are trying to get through tough times.
Where is the "OLD" Barack? Bring him back and if bills go up or down, we will at least have a great time trying.
Good Luck, I am still in your camp for now. I don't think I can afford to give any more money. At least not until things change.
It has been widely reported across the news wires that Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn), Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee has released a financial regulation reform bill. Through tough regulation, it will seek financial stability and consumer financial protection and justice.
We in the working/middleclass are being stripped of what little equity we have accumulated. We are forced to accept sub-standard wages, less employer benefits and in millions of cases...under/un-employment.
You can bet, the republicans and blue dog democrats are already planning on voting NO and introducing countless amendments to weaken or water down the legislation. You can be assured, they are planning endless delays. They will follow the same game plan as they did and are doing with health care. Joined by the wallets, the republicans and blue dog democrats will be relentless with their shady tactics.
We OFA members must become active again and counter their corruptive efforts. We cannot and should not expect President Barack Obama to fight this second front alone. It is time to gather the troops and bring re-enforcements to the already tired progressives on capitol hill. Stand-up and plan a strategy on how to bring aid to our fellow progressives. I still have hope, I know you do to. Stand-up, smile and be proud of what you are doing. You are not alone.
This vid was one I found on a site called Deprogram.net. The vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoA3wHi9iDE, is by a guy from the Center for Global Research known as Michel Chossudovsky. He argues that the current policies + TARP will eat up almost all of the US's GDP (which I've heard is more a service economy rather than a manufacturing economy).
What's your take on this vid after watching it?
Hmm...
EMK
The bankers have cheated our system, our people. They have stolen our life savings and ruined our economy. It was them who stole, not us who asked for too much or acted irresponsibilly. They gamed us, and now we suffer to bail them out. Why? They are not gods, they are pretenders and ghouls. Lets make a society without them. Lets make a society for the people. s/henry
Take a moment and see through the eye's of a child. In every country, every creed and nation, the youth want freedom. The freedom to choose is a right every human has been given. Yet, so little has been utilized. We have seen more abuse than anything, over the years.
President Obama was elected because that abuse has run us in the financial ground. This is not the first time, our nation faced financial corruption. Most every child knows this first hand. There are student who have followed the financial trail for years, knowing all to young the seemingly hopelessness of the future. Why, because of the lack of funds in every home in the world.
The high rise in SCAMMERS around the world, milking anyone who will [in good faith] give them a chance. Thinking they have been befriended by a honest person[s] who will help them grow a family, business, and country. Only to get robbed over and over again.
Most every american and nation can turn this around! There are jobs for our youth and more.
Let's have a BIG HEART FOR EVERYONE TO WIN!
Credit In The Simplest Terms Possible. I Think
Let me ask a few questions. You can think to yourself or shout the answers out loud. Do you have a credit card debt? Do you know anybody who doesn’t have a credit card debt? You know, you are out at the bar or to eat with them do they always pay in cash? Do you know anybody over 20 that has none of the following. Home loan, car loan, school loan, or credit debt? Do you know people who work hard, make a decent wage, do the right things financially, but are still struggling? Do you have a years worth of savings accumulated in case joblessness or illness occurs? So how can it be that so many of us are working our butts off, making an alright living, not living lavish lives, and still could not make it a year with out income. Now, under that guise let us talk about the affect of credit on the US economy.
Unemployment: Regardless of the tax breaks, housing issues and all other ideas in any proposal. If you don’t stop the unemployment and put people back to work so they actually have money to benefit from the tax breaks and housing benefits proposed and so they can start purchasing items, getting loans for homes and vehicles, investing in stock and or otherwise spending money, then regardless of the amount of the package, you will not have stimulated spending or our economy. JOBS are the foundation of stimulation.
JOBS: It is vitally important that the jobs created are created throughout the country with various skills. I assure you that those that have lost their jobs and will lose their jobs are from various locations and with various skills. So specific projects, proposed in any bill, will not suffice since they are limited in both location and skill.
How do you create Jobs?: I continuously hear everyone say, including the President, that our small businesses are the backbone of job creation and our economy. Why is that? It’s because they are all across the country and provide a variety of jobs and they borrow and spend? How do you stimulate small business?: Normally small businesses which are existing or that which wish to start up seek private funding through investement, loans and federal assistance. However due to the current economic EMERGENCY, the private sector options are no longer available. This leaves only Federal funding for small businesses. Our Federal agencies hold many applications from small businesses.: Various agencies have applications from small businesses that want to do work, some of which the government is requesting to be done. Some of which they have come up with on their own, which are called “unsolicited proposals” but which could still be of value. Some of this work is manual labor, some of this work is research and a lot of it is a variety of other opportunities. Some funds could already be available!: Many of these Federal agencies most likely already have some funds set aside for Grant funding or other funding. These agencies could pull all small business applications and Grand Total the amounts needed to fund all of them and the stimulus package could authorize additional funds, which may or may not be needed. The stimulus package and/or a Directive by the President should order these agencies to "clear their coffers". This may seem like an extreme measure, but these are extreme times. Some may argue that this will diminish private investment opportunities.: Contrarily by providing these small businesses with funding to start up or perform work, they can begin to invest and seek investors with the capital which is provided to them and/or with their success as they grow .Perhaps some of the funds being directed to the TARP packages could be redirected here.: Since the issue for our financial institutions is not neccesarily having the money available, but rather a way to move the money, our small businesses can provide for two means of helping with this issue. First they can provide the monies through creating bank accounts and/or making deposits into existing accounts. They will conduct daily business that will begin to rotate these funds and stimulate the economy. The definition of small business has already been defined.: The Government has already defined the term "small business", so there is no need to redefine it or figure out what articulates into a small business. These small businesses have already gone through the Grants.gov verification processes!: Before applying for Grants, SBIR’s and/or STTR’s each business must go through a verification process. There are already established monitoring systems set up.: Government auditing, reports and etc..are already established by each agency.Grants.gov already has bank routing numbers for each business.: As a requirement during the verification process, Grants.gov requires that a bank account already be established. The funds could be dispersed quickly and put to use quickly. Unfortunately the amounts they offer, $100,000 to $150,00 in most case are not sufficient to actually start a business. A business beginning with nothing has to have the funds needed to buy supplies, lease property, purchase equipment etc… and cover salaries for at least a year to allow the business to grow and build a customer base which can sustain them. Another source for small business interest is the Small Business Administration. It is important to provide enough funding: to allow for these businesses to start and to have enough to sustain them for at least a year, two years would be best, so that they can build a customer base to sustain themselves. Not all will succeed and it could be required that unused funds be returned if they fail. But I believe there will be many more that will succeed and some may even provide us all with some unexpected benefits. So have theses agencies, a list of Granting Agencies is on Grants.gov, pull all small business applications and provide funding. Open up more opportunities for small businesses. These small businesses are ready, willing and able to begin work and put others to work, so let them. What is the real benefit of small business? They employ, they buy, they bank, they borrow, they invest, they provide investment opportunities and they spend all across the country.: This stabilizes current businesses and allows them to hire more employees, to buy, to borrow and to spend. They all pay taxes to their states, they pay for permits from municipalities, counties and/or other forms of government, creating State and local revenue. They are perpetual, in that they continue, whereas a stimulus check to Americans may help, it does not provide a continuing of spending and rotation of capital as small businesses would while conducting daily business. They do not require any trade agreement specifications or a “Buy American” provision.Their employees buy, bank, invest, borrow and spend all across the country.: They pay State and local taxes which creates revenue for them.

In the end, the only real stimulation you could provide which can do what needs done, is through creating jobs all across the country with a variety of work skills. To meet that objective effectively you have to build up your small business base.
That way when all the other bills such as TARP and others can actually do some good.
Americans have a way of pulling themselves up. Give us a chance to show you how well we can do that and help us, help you, help us all.
Small Businesses, existing and new, could play a big part of stimulating our economy and progression to recovery. It should be included in conjunction with other ideas which are currently a part of the plan.
Offering more thoughts on the stimulus package... one area of great need is to shore up the real estate markets. While I'm not sure how best to help those who are caught up in the sub-prime loans and foreclosures, I do have some thoughts on slowing the further decline of real estate values caused by too many properties on the market... Offer or reinstate the deduction for ALL REAL ESTATE interest on residential properties and if near future circumstances dictate (which in all likelihood they will) on commercial properties too. A couple of decades or so ago, the tax deduction of interest paid on real estate was eliminated except for primary residences and other special properties such as rehabilitations and low income housing. If the tax deduction for interest paid on other types of real estate was reinstated, it would stimulate the purchase of second homes, rental properties, etc., and help spur demand in the real estate industry. This could slow the further decline in real estate values over time and prevent people who have already lost so much in the financial debacle and stock market decline from losing further money in the equity of their homes. Providing this tax break would encourage purchases in an otherwise buyerless situation.
I typically don't support tax breaks or rebates, but in these circumstances, I believe that some well placed tax breaks or reinstatement of past tax deductions would be helpful.
Another potential tax incentive would be to encourage foreign manufacturers with sites in the US to begin manufacturing their US products in the US. Many companies are already considering this as a way to cut their manufacturing costs, but they need just a little push to make the final commitment. This would bring additional jobs into the US. Incentives could include set up grants... to cover the costs of setting up the manufacturing facilities, etc. I don't believe long term tax breaks should be used as a "federal" enticement. Many states try to offer these to compete for the business. However, I believe that federal grants to establish manufacturing in the US might be the push some of these companies need to make the final decision.
I STACKED THESE 3 e-MAILS ON TOP OF EACH OTHER BECAUSE THEY ARE RELEVANT TO THE SEASON, WALL ST, & MAIN ST.
I HAVE SENT THEM TO SOME WHO WERE NOT IN THE ORIGINAL e-MAIL... START AT BOTTOM OF PAGE # 1 2 3 4 Something to think about during this Holiday Season4I too long to return to Israel, however that will again be God's timing. Distinctly, John the Apostle, the last one alive to speak said only one vitally important thing, at the beginning of his revelation of Jesus Christ
God gave us servants a revelation
The revelation is of what must soon take place (history from 100ad to present)
An angel brought the message (angel message)
John would testify everything he saw (all visions)
That what he saw was the word of God (John1:1)
That it was the complete Testimony of Jesus Christ (The only Issue)
Ok, Now the literal Greek translation is: Happy is he who IS reading, and those hearing, the words of the Prophecy, and KEEPING the things written in it -- for the time is near Revelation 1:3NO mention of the issues, SPECIFIC mention of the ProphecyAll the things in the Living Prayer text and the text below were occurring in Christ's and John's time or had already occurred when John was guided to write. Now notice in the list above there is NO mention of the issues - Political-Social-Financial-Religious, only the Prophecy
The assignment is to read the Prophecy
To hear the Prophecy
To take to heart what is written in the prophecy, because the time is near Revelation Chapter 1 verses 1 to 3
Now we can do whatever we want, but when the time comes to say good and faithful servant, I think HE will as HE did before praise the servant who used the talents wisely and therefore was found obedient and righteous. 99% of the church DO NOT know what is in the Prophecy: Because they are too busy with the issues.Brief EXAMPLEDURING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON 2007Most Christians are clueless as to knowing in whom they have believed,

Good morning!! I hope all is well with you and your family.
I personally believe that we (the USA) got just what we deserved in the election...I also believe that God is taking His hand away from us..we have chosen to ignore Him, take Him away from the schools and homes. The saying "God bless America" is ridiculous because God has been blessing us, it is time we should turn that saying around and say "we the people of the US should bless God." Instead we elected a man that is 100% for abortion which is murder in God's eyes, 100% for same sex marriage, and is 100% for giving away the Land that God gave to Moses and the children of Israel. I am not saying that we had a choice at all on the election..we did not..both sides are not Christians. All we can do now is pray for them, that they will have their eyes open and come to the cross.
I pray that you and yours have a wonderful Christmas. I am going to be working at the Salvation Army.
I would absolutely love to go to Israel again with you..think about it.
Love, N

@aol.com;
Just two remarks: I thought it was the lost sheep we were going after whether they call themselves Pastor, President-Elect, Live Prayer, or christian; note: Mystery Babylon is made up of christians who knew of the bridegroom and bride Rev 18:23, who was called out of her; but became the many He did not recognize; as their garments were not correct, they were naked; they lacked knowledge and were perishing; not because of civil ,social or political issues but because they knew not the Son and the Father. What will the author and LivePrayer committee and most christians say when the Prophet Daniel does the same kind of rant about those who have not studied his book as directed in Mathhew 24:15; the Bride cannot be without spot, with oil and in white garments without knowing and understanding these things according to Jesus, Daniel, Gabriel and the Apostle John. BTW the first 4 paragraphs below seems to be very similar to what Warren is being accused of.ANYHOW Happy Holy-Days

Also, don't forget, the most recent 5programs are available for On-Demand viewing at Liveprayer.com under the"Show archives" link.Rick Warren and President-elect Obama use each other for credibility. Letme say up front, the ONLY reason Pastor Rick Warren, Senior Pastor ofSaddleback Church in suburban Los Angeles and the author of the PurposeDriven Life, should deliver the invocation at Barack Hussein Obama'sinaugural is to pray for the following: Obama's salvation, that this nationwill stop slaughtering innocent babies, that ALL states will quit pervertingGod's Holy Institution of Marriage by allowing same-sex couples to wed, andthat this nation will turn from its sins and back to the God of the Bibleand faith in Jesus Christ. Now let's deal with reality. I guarantee you that Warren will pray for NONEof those things. Do you think for a second that President-elect Obama wouldinvite him to do the invocation if he was going to pray for the REAL needsof Obama and this nation? Warren became famous for selling his "PurposeDriven" marketing strategy designed to fill pews with warn bodies, notconverts to the faith, to churches and pastors around the nation who weretoo lazy to get their own vision from God. He has become the poster childfor the word COMPROMISE.Let me deal right away with the outrage from the homosexual community overObama asking Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration. They are soblinded by their sin that they don't realize Warren is the last person theyneed to fear or worry about. Yes, I am well aware that Pastor Warrensupported Proposition 8. For the record, that only happened a few daysbefore the election after he was shamed and forced by those brave me andwomen who championed that stand in California for God's Holy Institution ofMarriage.Warren made national news during the recent Presidential election when hehosted a debate between Senators Obama and McCain. The event was widelypromoted as a Warren/Saddleback event, however it was originated andco-sponsored by the liberal social justice group Faith in Public Life, whoseboard president is Meg Riley, a Unitarian Universalism minister whopreviously ran the denomination's homosexual advocacy office. Warren alsospoke at one of Robert Schuller's Institute for Successful Church Leadershipconferences. In attendance at that Institute were 80 gay and lesbianministers from the now Jesus Metropolitan Churches which cater tohomosexuals and lesbians. Many of the clergy of these churches arepracticing, unrepentant homosexuals!I do credit Warren for being consistent in his public comments (whenpressed) against the sin of homosexuality and that marriage is to be betweena man and a woman as God dictated. However, he takes ZERO leadership on keyspiritual issues like abortion or gay marriage, and is quick to join forceswith the homosexual community and those in the cults and false religions ofthe world to advance his personal agenda. He was at a Muslim conventionthis past weekend, where Melissa Ethridge, an openly lesbian activist andmusic artist performed. Warren said the two had a "wonderful conversation"and that he is a huge fan who has all her albums. At that event, Warren told the Muslims, "You don't have to see eye to eye towalk hand in hand." Listen, Rick Warren is a PASTOR. He is supposed to bea messenger of the GOSPEL. He is NOT a politician!!! The Gospel of JesusChrist is not something you water down or compromise. It is not about beingpolitically correct because the eternal souls of men are at stake. There isno "walking hand in hand" with Muslims! They are on the wide road todestruction while born-again Believers are on that narrow road to Glory!Muslims need to understand that they have bought a 1400-year-old lie fromhell, and when they die, their souls will burn in the flames of hell for alleternity unless they turn from the lies of Islam and embrace faith in JesusChrist and the Truth of the Bible!!!Warren is a case study in the word "compromise." He embraces the damnableecumenical movement that seeks to unite people of all beliefs, meaningChristians are expected to "compromise" and abandon the Absolute Truth ofthe Bible! His infamous book, The Purpose Driven Church, was endorsed byLeonard Sweet, a firm New Age Movement advocate. Warren hired Ken Blanchardto come to Saddleback to help train people how to be effective leaders.Blanchard is a huge advocate of the New Age philosophies. He wrote theforeword to Jim Ballard's books Mind Like Water and What Would Buddha Do AtWork? He was on the front cover of Corporate Mystic and the back cover ofDeepak Chopra's Seven Spiritual Laws of Success and wrote the Foreword toEllen Ladd's (clairvoyant) book, Death and Letting Go. Blanchard makes noapology when he says much can be gained from Buddhism. He and his wife bothencourage the practice of yoga and mantra meditation. Why does a self-professed Baptist evangelist associate with these types ofpeople? Not to preach the Gospel to them, but to use his association forhis benefit! Sadly Warren decided that he could make his impact by pursuinga worldwide social agenda. That is fine. We need people to lead the efforton global poverty, AIDS in Africa, and other social causes. But you can'tpursue this social agenda and ignore the pressing issues that are destroyingthis nation like killing babies, gay marriage, and family issues. IT IS NOTACCEPTABLE AT ANY TIME TO COMPROMISE THE GOSPEL AND THE TRUTH OF THE BIBLEIN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH ANY PURSUIT, NO MATTER HOW WORTHY! While thesesocial issues are worth bringing attention to and fighting for, the fact isall men will die one day and at that moment the only thing that matters isif they know Jesus as their personal Savior by Faith.I love you and care about you so much. It is easy to see whyPresident-elect Obama asked Warren to deliver the invocation at hisinauguration. It was payback for Warren compromising once again andallowing this enemy of God to stand in his pulpit at a recent conference onsocial issues. Actually, Warren desecrates his pulpit often with every kindof heretic and blasphemer you can name in the pursuit of his global socialagenda. He even boasted about having Obama in his pulpit!By accepting this invitation, all Warren has done is give credibility toObama, further proliferating the lie that he is a Christian, when the factis he takes stands in opposition to the Christ he proclaims and the Truth ofthe Bible on EVERY key spiritual issue that faces our nation. By giving theinvocation at the upcoming inaugural, Rick Warren is giving his blessing toObama's rebellion to God and the Bible. Sadly, Warren's agenda is moreimportant than God's agenda! His appearance and compromise actually onlyemboldens those who live in rebellion to God and His Word. For Pastor Rick Warren to bless and give the invocation at the upcominginauguration of a man who will help insure millions of babies around theworld are slaughtered, and force US taxpayers to fund this legalizedinfanticide, is no different than if Adolph Hitler had asked him to give theblessing and invocation when he became Chancellor of Germany!!!True men of God like John the Baptist, the prophets in the Old Testament, literally gave their lives to stand for God's Truth with the politicalleaders of their day. Sadly, Rick Warren is not a great man of God, butsimply a man who has compromised his faith and the message of the Gospel inorder to advance his agenda. I will be praying for Pastor Warren, and askyou to as well, that he will let the Holy Sprit speak the words this comingJanuary 20th. I pray that out of his lips will come a prayer calling thisnation back to God, condemning this culture of death and all who support it,proclaiming that God's plan in the Bible for marriage and family is thefoundation of our culture, and inviting President-elect Barack Hussein Obamato ask God to forgive his sins and accept by faith Jesus Christ as Hispersonal Savior and lead this nation as a man of God, not an enemy of God!THAT IS THE ONLY PRAYER A TRUE MAN OF GOD COULD POSSIBLY DELIVER!In His love and service,Your friend and brother in Christ,Bill KellerIf I can help you in any way you can contact me through my personal email at:bkeller at liveprayer.com***ARE YOU 100% CERTAIN WHERE YOU WILL SPEND ETERNITY? Not a business was stirring, not large corporationsTheir requests had been sent to Congress with care
In hopes that Pelosi, or Reid, would give them a share The CEO’s had their hopes set on the Fed
And visions of bonuses danced in their headsI was at home, full of hope and wonder
At the thought of big companies not going under.
Then out on the street there arose such a clatter,I looked out the window to see what was the matter. On the street was a hay wagon, making its way
Not the usual wagon, filled with bales of hay.
No, this one, (and I know this sounds funny),
Was filled instead with bales full of money.
With a very old driver, so morose and deadpan,
That I knew in a flash it was Alan Greenspan
There was a small note, stuck to each cash bale
With the name of a company too big to fail.
His wagon was drawn by eight sleek mega-bucksAnd he shouted their names as he whipped their buttocks “Now Paulson, Bernanke, Now Rubin and Volcker
On Krugman, On Samuelson, Kudlow and Cramer,To the next company’s holiday retreat! So I can deposit a bale at the revelers’ feet"And so the wagon continued on,Until the last bail-out bales were gone.Greenspan then to his team gave a whistle,And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. And as they flew way up into the sky,
Alan cried, “I must see Ayn Rand once more ‘fore I die.”And I heard him exclaim as they flew into the night"Happy bail-outs to all, and to none, oversight!"
I want to direct you to an important article written by Christopher Whalen on the web site "Seeking Alpha". It is entitled "What Obama Needs to Know About Tim Geithner, the AIG Fiasco and Citigroup" and can be accessed via this link:
http://seekingalpha.com/article/108113-what-obama-needs-to-know-about-tim-geithner-the-aig-fiasco-and-citigroup?source=yahoo
Mr. Whalen sees bankruptcy of the financial institutions currently being bailed out with taxpayer dollars and debt, i.e. Bear Sterns, AIG, Citigroup, etc., as inevitable, so as to finally cleanse the markets of the debt instruments that were created out of thin air, in order to make money for these companies and their associates. We have only to look at the ties between these companies AND between these companies and the people (in government), who are charged with handling the crisis ostensibly for the common good, to see who or what entities are actually being bailed out here. Our money is being used to soften the landing for the big fish and let them escape severe financial trauma. When this is achieved, then the real crisis will be allowed to occur.
All we can do is hope and all I can say is - President-Elect Obama, please keep the faith.
There are some people (CEOs mostly), who are directly responsible for the financial and economic melt-down. These individuals can be identified and held responsible. I am not sure about the dent it would make in resolving the problems, but it would send a message. Here is what I propose: Appoint a commission that determines what rules and laws they violated and what penalties apply. I am thinking of fines in particular. The fines would have to be proportional to the losses they have caused to their firms. In plain English, hit them in the pocket, where it hurts.
How this money should be used to benefit the public, is a matter of another brainstorming. I know, some might say, oh, take it from the rich and give it to the poor, sounds like redistribution of wealth. Except that the wealth I am talking about was acquired fraudulently. So this is not a case of redistribution, but restitution. Big difference. If nothing else, this money should be included in the bailout packages, so that it would ease the burden somewhat on the taxpayers.
There is very little talk about this, but anger is building up as we get occasional glimpses at the plush lifestyles that most CEOs enjoy. Why would they be rewarded when they ran their ships aground? The "bad apples" need to be weeded out.
Normally, I wouldn't post this, but something irked me at 1:20-1:50 on this criticism of the Global Financial Summitt (Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COtE1J5NMbo). If you've read this Real Clear Politics link (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/04/the_age_of_nonpolarity.html), do you notice any similarities?
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't like sea urchins, either!
Feel free to discuss!
Fundraising is a political necessity. ReDubyLickin alarm over Obama/Biden's fundraising success is nothing but sour-grape hypocrisy. Both parties accept large donations, but from predictably different interests:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/21/us/politics/21donate.html The Times examination of donors who wrote checks of $25,000 or more through September found some notable differences in the industries from which Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain drew their largest contributions. Compared with Mr. Obama, Mr. McCain drew a slightly larger percentage of his big-donor money from the financial industry, about a fifth of his total. The next biggest amount in large checks for Mr. McCain came from real estate and then donors who identified themselves as retired. With his emphasis on offshore drilling, Mr. McCain has also enjoyed heavy support from generous benefactors in the oil and gas industry, a group Mr. Obama drew relatively little from. After the financial arena, Mr. Obama drew the most in checks of $25,000 or more from retirees and lawyers — Mr. McCain collected significantly less in large donations from lawyers — followed by those in real estate. Mr. Obama also drew a significant amount from big givers in the entertainment industry, who contributed relatively little to Mr. McCain. In contrast, donations from the private equity and hedge fund industries accounted for a significantly greater amount of the giving from Mr. McCain’s largest donors, compared with Mr. Obama’s.

There is a story that was told long ago by a respected teacher named Jesus. This is an update I thought up this morning.
The Global Finance Executive council called in a group of money-makers and handed out a bunch of cash, saying, "Go out and make a bundle for us and come back in five years."
Five years later they all came back. Basically, the money-makers had three different responses.
The first group to come forward were the Big Financial Stability group. They came and said, "We have carefully invested your money and followed the highest ethical standards and we bring you this profit. And the GFEC said, "Well, done, faithful servants."
Then the second group came forward, the Small Bankers Stability group. They said, "We can't compete on the same scale as the big organizations, but we have been careful and honest and we bring you these profits." And the GFEC said, "Well, done, faithful servants."
A third group then came in. They represented the High Flyers Group. They said, "We know that you are a demanding employer, and we wanted to make a bunch of money any way we could. We invested in some high risk possibilities and we set aside common sense and ethics in order to try to get the biggest profits, regardless of the consequences. Well, we lost. We are financially ruined! It's all your fault for giving us this pile of money! Our creditors are on our backs, the investors are howling and we have enemies on all sides. Help us!" And the GFEC said, ...
So what would you say to these groups? Does that reflect the way you see this financial crisis?
Of course, this is just a story, isn't it?

Am I the only one tired of hearing the candidates talk about the middle class? WHAT ABOUT THE LOWER CLASS? We're in the worst position for this economic crisis, yet we seem to be ignored! Except by McCain, perhaps, who has at least stated a plan for the mortgage problem.
I want to know what Obama plans to do to help the lower class who struggle for financial stability and are struggling even harder now.
Obama came from an average family. Let's hope he hasn't forgotten us.
I just want to make sure I have this straight: Sen. McCain proposes that the Treasury use the first $350 billion of the bailout to buy up the mortgage-backed securities (MBS) that are clogging up the credit markets. These are the slapped together, asset-backed securities that no one wants to touch because they are made up of good and bad mortgages. However, no one knows how much of each are in the securities. The lack of transparency is part of the problem, but they are clogging the secondary markets; they can't be sold and money can't be raised.
He then wants to use another $300 billion to buy at FULL VALUE the troubled mortgages that have helped to make these MBS toxic. In essence, the Treausry buys the securities at a discounted rate; the Treasury will then buy the underlying mortgages at FULL VALUE. The bank gets to clear the MBS off its books and gets cash. The bank then gets FULL VALUE for the overpriced mortgage of the security just cleared off its books.
??????
Essentially, the banks get paid in both the primary and secondary market by the same "investor."
Perhaps erratic isn't the right word.
I worked for Alan Cranston as his senior foreign policy and defense advisor for the last three years he served as Senate Majority Whip.He was the best boss I ever had and one of the most ethical people I have ever met in Washington. I loved the man.(BTW, my own ethical standing was proved--I think--when I was the pioneer whistleblower against what the Department of Justice Inspector General called "egregious misconduct," "willful disregard for national security" and corruption on the part of senior aides to Attorney General Janet Reno several years later. But that is a different story.)Cranston did receive the largest amount of money from Keating, but what the story (below) doesn't say is that he used it for voter registration in California. He didn't take a dime for himself. As the story correctly points out, "McCain, had family vacations at Keating's home in the Bahamas in 1984, 1985 and 1986 when he was in the House, which the Senate committee said was beyond its jurisdiction."Alan was old and sick with cancer and Washington needed a whipping boy. How Republican Robert Bennett, as committee counsel, could savage Cranston and get away with it, while protecting McCain speaks volumes about how the ol' boys worked in the nation's capital.McCain, who profited personally from his relationship with Keating, spent his time whining about how innocent he was.

There is "substantial credible evidence" that Sen. Alan Cranston violated Senate rules by intervening with federal savings and loan regulators for campaign contributor Charles Keating, the Senate ethics committee decided Wednesday. In the largest group disciplinary action ever taken in the Senate, the committee also publicly scolded four other senators, who along with Cranston have become known as the Keating Five. The case of Cranston (D-Calif.) will proceed into a final stage that probably will conclude with full Senate action, which could mean expulsion but will more likely be censure or reprimand. No further action will be taken against the four others. The ruling could have an impact on the conduct of U.S. senators for years to come as they evaluate whether their service on behalf of constituents and campaign contributors oversteps Senate rules. The ethics committee said it hoped the rulings would lead to campaign finance reform. The four who escaped full Senate review of their cases -- Sens. Dennis DeConcini (D-Ariz.), Donald Riegle (D-Mich.), John McCain (R-Ariz.) and John Glenn (D- Ohio) -- nevertheless "exercised poor judgment" in intervening on behalf of Keating, a savings and loan owner, the committee said. The committee was particularly critical of Riegle and DeConcini, saying their conduct "gave the appearance of being improper," though they violated no rule.In a unanimous opinion, the six-member bipartisan committee said there is "substantial credible evidence" that "Cranston engaged in an impermissible pattern of conduct in which fundraising and official activities were substantially linked."Cranston, who got $900,000 of the $1.3 million Keating contributed to the senators and their causes, has a right to respond to the allegation and ask for an investigative hearing before the committee recommends his punishment. He declined to disclose his plans but issued a terse statement. "It's clear that I have been unfairly singled out despite the evidence in all five cases," he said. The Keating cases have consumed the Senate for nearly 1 1/2 years, including three months of preliminary hearings that ran until Jan. 16.The committee's vice chairman, Sen. Warren Rudman (R-N.H.), said the proceedings already have forced senators to impose new behavior standards on themselves. The committee, chaired by Sen. Howell Heflin (D-Ala.), called on the Senate leadership to write formal standards on how senators can intervene with federal agencies and also to propose campaign finance reforms.Cranston, 76, who resigned as the Senate majority whip while under treatment for prostate cancer, has announced he will not run for re-election in 1992.The critical language used to rebuke the other senators provides powerful ammunition to potential opponents in any re-election bids.Nevertheless, in a news conference, the two senators who received the lightest treatment, McCain and Glenn, acted as if the committee had found they did nothing wrong. McCain expressed relief that he had been "exonerated," and Glenn claimed he had been "vindicated."DeConcini said he was "relieved" and said he would continue to be "aggressive" in dealing with federal regulators on behalf of his constituents.Such claims led Fred Wertheimer, chairman of Common Cause, the self-styled citizens lobby that brought the cases to the ethics committee on Oct. 13, 1989, to call for further action by the full Senate on at least some of the cases besides Cranston's."Today's action by the Senate ethics committee is a cop-out and a damning indictment of the committee," Wertheimer said. "It represents a triumph for the club at the expense of the Senate and its integrity." Riegle, the only member who sounded contrite, said, "I certainly regret and accept responsibility" for actions that he conceded "did lend themselves to an appearance of a conflict of interest."If the full Senate decides that Cranston should be censured, he would be the eighth senator in the 20th Century to be so condemned. The last was Sen. Dave Durenberger (D-Minn.), whom the Senate denounced last year for improper financial dealings. The Ethics Committee spent days deliberating over the disposition of the cases and the wording of the statements. The committee members also were said to be concerned about their own reputations, and some did not want to let the senators off lightly. However, they were constrained by Senate rules, which do not specifically outlaw the actions taken by four of the five. The ruling by the committee essentially backed up committee counsel Robert Bennett's assertion that Cranston was the most culpable.Cranston's defense essentially was that all senators collect money from contributors and go to bat for them with federal regulators. Keating's Lincoln Savings and Loan is based in Irvine, Calif., where he faces state fraud charges.Lincoln's parent corporation, American Continential Corp., is based in Arizona, which provided the first links between Keating and DeConcini, 53, and McCain, 54.DeConcini's primary role was to take the lead at two meetings in April 1989 urging banking regulators to rethink their position that Lincoln was a bad thrift and required remedial action.By the end of that month the federal government had seized Lincoln, and in September 1989 the government sued Keating and American Continental, alleging that some of Lincoln's money had been siphoned into campaign contributions. DeConcini then returned $48,100 raised by Keating for his 1988 campaign.DeConcini's Arizona colleague, McCain, had family vacations at Keating's home in the Bahamas in 1984, 1985 and 1986 when he was in the House, which the Senate committee said was beyond its jurisdiction.

I keep thinking about the American people that bought houses that they KNEW they couldn't afford. (if something looks too good to be true; it probably is) Is that a popular thing to say? no. But, there really is something to be said for personal responsibility. Having said that; those homeowners have already paid for their greed by losing those homes. They paid for their mistake. According to Sen. Pelosi; Congress is blameless in this mess. The one that whipped up the Bill that DE-REGULATED the Banks in the first place(Gramm-Leach-Blily Act of 1999) is the CURRENT Financial ADVISOR for Sen. John McCain! So, apparently, they are blameless in this mess too. Has Wall Street or the Government paid for their perfidy? no.
Please check out this link for an idea that might work for the Banks, Government AND Taxpayers!

(hint)The American taxpayer might look more kindly on a financial bailout of this mess if it is WE who get the benefits and the ones who put us in this hole are actually punished!
