Hey there,
My name is Vin It's my first post."By closing the carbon loophole through this kind of market-based cap, we can address in a systematic way all the facets of the energy crisis: lowering our dependence on foreign oil, reducing our use of fossil fuels and promoting new industries right here in America," Obama said.Earth Day is a time to celebrate gains we have made and create new visions to accelerate environmental progress. Earth Day is a time to unite around new actions. Earth Day and every day is a time to act to protect our planet.
Today, as Virginians and residents of the 35th District celebrate Earth Day, it’s a great opportunity to take this time and reflect where we are and where we are going in terms of responsible, renewable green energy that both protects our environment and provides jobs for the Commonwealth. As we look to the future of our families, community and Commonwealth, we can all agree that strengthening Virginia’s economy, protecting our precious natural resources and building an exciting, renewable energy future will be the key to ensuring a healthier community in which to live and work. The future of our environment is an issue which transcends politics. However, as delegate it would be my responsibility to fight for policies which protect our environment, strengthen our economy and compliments the efforts people make on a daily basis to make Virginia a better place. According to a recent poll, 76% of Virginians think that global warming is real and will adversely affect our environment. Capitalizing on alternative energy sources and investing in smart, green technology that taps into local talents and resources will help ensure Virginia becomes and remains a leader in the stewardship for a better community for us all.
The campaign could use your help so please sign up today to volunteer! Any amount of time will help us reach our goal. After all, TOGETHER WE CAN!

Encouraging all to display peace signs!
American Dream Newspaper & Speak Unity National Initiative (Maryland a FREE STATE NOT APOLICE STATE) & As State Delegate primary Winner Rebecca L. Nelson's teams are honored to join with the American Friends Service Committee's call for Peace supporting our President World-wide.
Let's support and encourage our Presidents call for Peace. amerICAN opportUNITY
Peace signs are available at amerdreamnews@hotmail.com
email Nelson's team and we will reply with a peace sign, an original Peace sign created in 2006 for Nelson with honor, respect, one love and Nelson's name utilized for the election.
Rebecca L. Nelson was listed as a murder witness after a shoot-out involving four shooters took place in her parked truck. The charging documents listed her name, and address were given to all of the shooters in the detention center. A 20 year old father of one rolled off the back of her truck with 3 bullets in his head. One shooter was shot in the leg and went to the hospital. A third shooter went to jail given his charging documents with Rebecca listed as a murder witness.
At anytime the shooter could call the fourth shooter and give out Rebecca's information for a drive by shooting. Misdirected anger killed 15 murder witnesses in Baltimore in 2005. The same year the stop snitching video was released. This murder trial was postponed for 18 months.
Rebecca Publishes American Dream Newspaper, since 1999, and did so with her American Indian maiden name, however; the police listed her legal name with no regard to her safety. In all fairness to the Police that was the policy, they were just following their normal operating procedure
She summitted PEACE SIGNS for her photo & for her logo for the election, while working to correct these policies to protect innocent citizens from being put in harms way. Three years later the police & States Attorneys are now NOT releasing witnesses names untill a State's Attorney is assigned these cases, about a month before the trials.
No longer will other citizens have to move and hide for months and years waiting on justice.
In Baltimore the driveby's and numbers of murders have started to decline, finally.
Now, Nelson is addressing the Peace Orders in the State of Maryland that are not worth the papers they are written on. After moving, Nelson closed down an illegal bail bond business in Baltimore and Harford Counties. A handfull of criminals continued to get out after numerous neighbors had called the police. They were arrested, one criminal had 14 charges in one month. Nelson discovered, exposed them and worked to pull the tax numbers of these Bail bondsman, closing down the operation in Baltimore and Harford Counties.
Collectively, neighbors went to the State to file Peace orders. Nelson and her neighbors worked to seek Peace in a military area where we have alot of single and widowed moms, wives and daughters. Several of these Peace Orders were dropped years later when Senator Stone's Son Judge Norman Stone choose to conspire to do so. Judge Stone had no insight as to the danger Nelson was in or maybe he was just playing musical courts to cover or conspire to protect Judge Finifter who did not know how to count to 10. (Nelson has a US Supreme Court case for this one)
Stone put Nelson in harms way, again. For when the criminals left Stones courtroom, after she explained and shared photographs of when she went to serve the Peace Orders it took 5 different Police Officers to find one who knew how to read them, how to serve them, during which time Nelson was hosed, and beaten. The criminals went to the Commissionors the same day and filed lies against Nelson thanks to Judge Stones ineptness; he could of looked up pages of guilty verdicts of this gang and yet he chose to do nothing but dismiss Peace Orders. No wonder his daddy the Senator,(on my Cousin Del Mikie Weirs ticket) wants to clear the dropped Peace Orders!
The Baltimore Sun reported 8000 Peace Orders were dropped, almost half. Most of our sisters are NOT lying and expected the State to care in Baltimore County to no avail in Stones District Court.
Now, that charges are put on the courts web pages while innocent before being found guilty of anything, my clean record, has been marked by their foolishness. And yet, I refuse to let it steal my Peace.
The judges in Baltimore County District Court continue their witch hunt of our sisters of color.
G.Harold Russell, Judge Fletcher, Sally Chester,Judge Bill Evans of the Orphains Court where Nelsons property is registered costing $4600.in fees, a quiet title, a contract to settle good untill a year later, a Specific Performance Case ruled by Judge Levitz that it could not be dismissed, right of certeria for the US Supreme Court for restitution (in Aero Acrea America's 1st planned Community Bi-Laws states 'white only' Nelson has been working to make them 'race nutural): conspired on Oct. 31st (1st day of Gov. O'malleys 'special' General Assembly) to try Nelson on the lies the criminals forged on State documents.
Judge Russell refused to recuse himself, these motion papers 'disapeared'; however, I have the stamped photographs as proof that a motion had to be summited for them to be stamped!
They shackled Nelson detained for 11 days under a nick name, while they tried to cover up their last conspiracy to invade her home of three years. All evidence had been removed and put in safe keeping before they burnt four generations of Nelson's belongings.
Bill Evans went so far as to threaten me after his sorryness claimed to want to help and never entered his appearance and this is how this State murder witness was treated in Balto. Maryland.
I do want to thank Judge Turnbull for dismissing all the lies after I appealed to Circuit Court, and thank Judge Levitz, also, of the Circuit Court, he ruled that the Specific Performance case will go to court, however; Senator Stone was outside the courtroom when I was assured my case would go to fast trac after I waited 10 months for a date to settle on this property. Still waiting to no avail.
Now, how can I, Nelson lose my Peace while recieving an excellent legal education that some attorneys only dream about -- a case to the highest Court in our land -America's Supreme!
Let's give Peace a chance, Respect, Speak Unity. amerdreamnews@hotmail.com 410 727 3728
Feeling inspired by Earth Day, I made a new line of products for fellow environmentalists for Obama. Here is one of the products. I'm hoping to raise some money for the Minnesota effort with them.
In response to the "Alternative Transportation Tuesday" event out here in Obama network-land, I actually did go all day without using my car and managed to face an irrational fear.
For no good reason, I've always balked at using public transportation. I have an irrational fear that I am going to miss the departure time or nod off during the ride and miss my stop. I've lived in my current location for 7 years and never taken the bus. Finally, this Earth Day challenge in the name of Obama spoke to me and I not only rode the bus myself, but took along 2 pre-schoolers and gave them their first bus rides and discussions about how that helps the planet. It was an hour of bus time round trip and all of us were quite pleased with ourselves for completing our bus/Earth Day adventure.
So thanks for the idea! Your inspiration saved some fuel, helped me overcome an irrational stumbling block, taught a couple of kids about conservation and the fact that not everyone owns cars, and gave me some first hand experience in knowing what it's like for low income families (and eco-conscious ones) to get their kids to and fro without the benefit of minivans full of CDs and toys. It's another example of how Obama's campaign inspires people to do things they have never done before. I'm all the better for it.

I didn't know where to go to call. Call list in hand, I had eleven names (of 25 assigned to me) to call during lunch time. I didn't want to do it at work, as I'd have no privacy. Not that I need to keep my support of Obama a secret, but more like should I be campaigning for someone at work using their phone?
iPhone in hand, I hit the streets, navigating the lunchtime crowds in search of a quiet place where I could get some food. I considered the Spa Cafe with their exotic meats (ostrich! venison! buffalo!) and tempting french fry concoctions (poutine!), but the tables didn't look big enough for my food and my call sheet.
It being Earth Day, I suppose I could have brownbagged some fetching organic vegan salad, but I'm no domestic genius. Also, I forgot to do my grocery shopping this weekend. My taste buds dragged me to Wendy's (are they green?) for the Chicken BLT salad.
Did I mention that I don't like talking on the phone? Years spent working in technical support have left an unpleasant sensation in my mouth and my ears, the residual product of hours spent talking to irate, often irrational customers. "The things I do for Barack," I sighed as I put down my fork, picked up the phone, and dialed.
It turns out out of my initial 11, 9 were wrong numbers or disconnected lines. I left a message for one, hoping the sound of yelled orders for Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers didn't drown out the campaign toll-free number. And then I got a live one! A gentleman who said "Of course I voted for him already!", a bit grumpily, but that was enough to get me excited. "Thanks, and have a great day!"
I celebrated that vote with a Frosty Float.
It's ironic that today is the Pennsylvania Primary, and it is also Earth Day. It is a rare opportunity for the people of Pennsylvania to cast a ballot that actually can make a difference this election year. It is paramount that those people who go to the polls today to vote, realize that they can actually make a huge statement by voting for a leader who believes that the United States has to loosen the stranglehold that we find ourselves in called dependence on foreign oil. With the cost of gasoline skyrocketing here in the United States, and the residual, snowball effects of those expenses for Americans everywhere, is it any wonder that we harbor so many doubts about most of our elected representatives' commitment to listening to the people and actually taking action to break free from this prison of our own making. The U.S. economy is in a state of shambles right now, and the American people cannot help but make the connection that our tax payer dollars have been used for purposes other than those which each of us can actually stand up and be proud. The war in Iraq is costing each of us a bundle, and it bears worth repeating on this Earth Day, that lives lost are worth more than any precious metal or liquid fuel.
We need to start thinking more about the future -- to our future as a nation, and how we can creatively approach getting out of this rut. Going green is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. And if we are to remain a leader in this world, we need to start looking to the quality of the education that we produce, the quality of the jobs that we create through our basic needs. I urge you to read Bob Herbert's excellent column "Clueless in America" in today's New York Times on education (or the lack thereof) in the U.S.A. It's a good place to start.

Today I was involved for the second Saturday in a row, in planting native tree and shrub seedlings along my local riverbank and greenway trail. We planted 200 seedlings last week and almost as many again today. The environment in this area is quite disturbed, as much of the low lying flood plain land was used for landfilling in the past here in my city. We dug up 6 old tires last weekend and another one today. The original topsoil is gone, just some gravelly clay fill is there now. But it is enough to support grass and some invasive honeysuckle shrubs (we pull them out before planting the natives that the birds and other animals like better). Yet the native seedlings will take root and grow, renewing the area and leapfrogging it forward from the wasteland it's been. The seedlings were obtained in dormant, bare-root form, but soon they will be magically awakening from their winter slumber, and will send out new rootlets and leaves with the help of the rain and sunshine in the coming months.
We do this not because we think it will make things perfect, not because we think every single seedling will grow to maturity-- or that we will personally witness them all growing to that full ecological maturity-- but because we have faith in our ability to make a positive difference in our local environment by working together in this way.
It's the same reason my family has gotten involved in the Obama campaign, because Barack's candidacy represents Change We Can Believe In.
We watered the seedlings, put marker stakes next to them, mulched with old straw, marked the area with some rocks to help fend off overly agressive mowers during the summer months, and hope for the best.
I believe Barack will win this 2008 election, and he will be a great President, because he approaches everything he does with integrity and honesty and candor and a rare quality of grace that allows him to rise above so much of the petty BS that is being slung by his primary opponent and some of the media. This is leadership by example, it's what we do when we set about greening the planet too.
Happy Earth Week, everyone!! Have at it, keep at it and keep BARACK-ing!
EnvirObama is a completely grassroots endeavor, started by a group of strangers who were brought together by their concern for the environment and the fact that they recognize that Barack Obama is the only candidate with enough visionary leadership to tackle the immense environmental challenges of the 21st century.
EnvirObama was formed by members of Environmentalists for Obama to encourage voters, the media, and the 2008 presidential candidates to recognize the vital importance of addressing issues affecting our environment. We realize Senator Obama hasn't addressed every environmental issue that plagues our world, and many of us even feel like he could do better in some areas, but despite our differences, each of us believes that he is willing to listen and make changes based on sound judgment, rather than special interests and party politics.
At this stage in the presidential race, there are not a lot of ways to attract attention, however, the Obama campaign has garnered great media recognition due to the impressive size of his campaign rallies and his unsurpassed online fund raising success. Our idea is to combine concern for the environment with Barack Obama's wide appeal and extensive grassroots support by recruiting people to make an official campaign donation in support of Barack Obama and the environment, on Earth Day - April 22, 2008, to show that green matters!. The success of this endeavor will show that the environment, while usually relegated to the bottom of the list of people's top ten concerns, is in fact a strong viable issue in the 2008 campaign.
The Obama campaign for me is about empowerment and self-empowerment, to make the world the kind of place we want it to be-- nationally and, just as especially, at the local level.
As a cyclist and environmentalist for Obama, I want to share some local efforts underway this month here in Central Ohio.
Anyone who wants to help make a positive difference in our local environment this month should please feel free to come help the Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries planting trees along the Alum Creek bike path and greenway trail near I-70 and near SR-104 in Columbus on April 12 and April 19, also cleaning up the area near Academy Park for Earth Day on April 26th as part of the greater Columbus Earth Day activities which are going by the slogan this year of, "now get busy" .
FACT will be planting about 750 native trees and shrubs along the river in sensitive riparian areas near the bike trail.
Come join the fun, and wear your Obama shirts!! We get our hands dirty, we see the results and they will last a good long time! For every volunteer at one of these events with an Obama shirt on, I will personally donate $08 to the campaign. I challenge all like-minded readers to match me here or with your own similar local events!!
77 people have signed up to attend this event.
I thought it would be great sustainable PR for the campaign to hand out reusable canvas bags with the Obama 08 logo at campaign events & headquarters in upcoming primary states, maybe even outside grocery stores, depending on the cost. I was originally inspired by a post I read on dailykos and the fact that the PA primary coincides with Earth Day (April 22). That and the fact that when I walk around Manhattan with my Obama 08 pin on, so often, just a second before I pass someone there's this big smile or thumbs up, and I look and they have an Obama pin or t-shirt too, and there's such a positive connection between two strangers. The bags would be identifiable from so much farther off, and of course be a great symbol of his commitment to the environment, that the campaign isn't just talk but about inspiring people to take action and contribute to our communities. I had hoped simply to order the bags from barackobama.com and direct others to do so as well, but they don't sell them.
The bags ended up being $6 each - I could have gotten them for about $1.50 each if they were made in China, but for obvious reasons all Obama merchandise is union made in the USA. I ordered 100 of them from a supplier in Pittburgh, American Products. My goal is still to take most of them to PA and give them away there (for free) over the next 2 weekends; I'm also sending some to a friend in NC who offered to hand some out before their primary. Canvassing in PA I've had so many people tell me they haven't seen a campaign like this in 40 years. Last week I met a woman's who took her grandson to the Wilkes-Barre rally and he asked Obama "how do I get to be president?" and Obama told him "well, you need to work really hard and do your homework and, is this your grandmother? You need to listen to your grandmother." And ever since then she said he's been coming home right after school and doing all his homework and she's about to vote in the first primary of her life. I feel so honored to be part of this incredible group of people, and I just wanted to give my good friends, both those I've known for years and those I've met as an Obama volunteer, a way of marking the tremendous impact this campaign has made on our lives. Obviously my hope is we all do a heck of a lot more than putting our groceries in a bag with a great logo, but it's a start. So, if you'd like to contribute something towards the money I paid for the bags, that's great; if you'd like to send the money to the Obama campaign directly, that's even better; if you'd like to volunteer in one of the remaining primary states or start an Obama Works community service project in your community, well, that's the real goal.
If you'd like to order in bulk, the supplier I used is American Products, (unionwear.com) which is based in Pittsburgh, PA, although the US/union shops they use are not in PA. If you'd just like a few for yourself & friends, email me at greenness1 at gmail.
Here is a link to the unionwear bags (not with the Obama logo):
http://www.unionwear.com/ProductDetail.asp?item+code=10202E
I made a small mockup in Photoshop showing the logo (which makes the bags a little more expensive than what's listed on the unionwear page above)-

Comments/contributions/collaborators welcome!
Earth day is a great time to remember why we need Barack Obama in the White House. Someone in the "Hippies for Obama" group suggested getting a booth at Earth Day celebrations to get Obama's environmental policy message out. She also suggested some Earth Day fundraisers.
Here is my idea...
We could make some reusable grocery bags with the Obama logo and a list of easy things people can do to save the planet. First use any extras you already have and stencil or iron on the Obama logo. We could also find supplier of Fair Trade, Organic Cotton bags. Another good idea would be water bottles with built in filters to replace all of the disposable bottles people buy that just end up in landfills. Does anyone know of a supplier that sells bottles safe for long term use that are made of recycled materials that might help? Do we need campaign permission? What campaign finance rules do we need to be careful of?
Will You Go Dark?
Earth Hour 2008
What are you doing on Saturday, March 29?We've got an invite for you: Take an hour to power down. On March 29, Chicago will lead the U.S. in Earth Hour. The global event encourages governments, businesses and residents in major cities worldwide to turn off lights and unplug unnecessary appliances for 60 minutes between 8 and 9 p.m. Organized by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is meant to show solidarity in the fight against climate change.
In Chicago, which was chosen as the U.S. flagship city, officials and businesses will dim city buildings and major landmarks like the Navy Pier ferris wheel, downtown skyscrapers and shops along the Magnificent Mile. (Streetlights, hospital lights and other necessary lights will remain lit.)
According to the Earth Hour website, the city of Sydney, Australia recorded a 10.2% drop in energy use during the debut Earth Hour event on March 31 last year. The energy savings were equivalent to "taking over 48,000 cars off the road for an hour." This time around, ComEd will help measure how much energy Chicago saves during the demonstration.
The goal of Earth Hour, however, isn't really to promote coordinated hours of darkness as a long-term strategy to stave off climate change. It's to get people thinking--and to let them know they're not alone. So we like their suggestion to use that hour to reduce your footprint in a more lasting way.
If you buy the supplies ahead of time, you can use Earth Hour as a time to replace all your incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving CFL bulbs and plug your small appliances into power strips for easy turn-off when not in use. And, in the true spirit of solidarity, sit down with family and friends to discuss the importance of responding to climate change...then make your own plan of action.
Watch EarthHour's cool video, and sign yourself up, here. Want more suggestions for reducing your impact on global warming? Check out the A Fresh Squeeze archive for more down-to-earth green news, food tips, shopping info and more.

GREEN MATTERS: We are the change we've been waiting for!
PURPOSE: The "Green Matters" event is a grassroots organized one-day mass donation with the sole purpose of bringing the ENVIRONMENT into the forefront of the 2008 Presidential race.
HOW IT WORKS: The "mainstream media" has proven in this election cycle that they will cover how much money the Presidential candidates can, or have raised. Therefore, a massive donation organized around environmental issues, by individuals concerned with the state of the planet, and on a nationally celebrated day of environmental awareness (Earth Day) will penetrate the national dialogue, once again moving the environment to the forefront of Presidential politics.
WHO BENEFITS: Everyone benefits when our environmental issues are discussed on a national stage, therefore anyone concerned about the future of our planet is encouraged to participate in this event regardless of race, age, gender, or political affiliation. However, this event has been organized by independent grassroots supporters of Barack Obama and all donations benefit the Obama campaign. As President, Barack Obama will reduce carbon emissions, encourage developments in clean energy, support next generation biofuels, work to gain oil independence, improve energy efficiency in buildings and restore U.S. leadership on climate change.
By making the Green Matters pledge, you will receive an e-mail reminder the day of donation, Earth Day - April 22nd, 2008.
You are the change the Earth's been waiting for…make the pledge now at www.envirobama.com/greenmatters and on Earth Day 2008 tell the world that Green Matters!
