Presidential Inaugural Committee and The Advertising Council Launch a New Public Service Advertising Campaign Highlighting President-elect Obama's Call to Service
President-elect Obama asking Americans to "Step Forward" and Volunteer in their Communities
Washington, D.C. - The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) and The Advertising Council launched today a new public service advertising (PSA) campaign aimed at summoning a new spirit of service in America. The television ad "Step Forward" and radio PSA "Chapter" feature President-elect Obama urging Americans to log on to USAService.org to find ways to make an ongoing commitment to serve their communities and their country. Nearly 6,000 volunteer projects and opportunities across the country are listed on USAService.org.
President-elect Obama's and Vice President-elect Biden's "Renew America Together" initiative, calling on Americans of all ages to participate in community service, begins on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 19th, to honor the legacy of a man who lived his life in service to others. On the eve of the Inauguration, thousands of community service events will take place in Washington and all across the country.
"President-elect Obama believes each of us, as Americans, has a responsibility to do what we can for our communities and fellow citizens. We've launched USAService.org to connect volunteer organizations with Americans in their community and make it easier to serve on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and beyond," said Josh Earnest, PIC Communications Director.
The Ad Council is distributing the new television and radio PSAs to stations throughout the country this week. Per the Ad Council's model, the PSAs will run and air in donated advertising time and space.
"We are delighted to join President-elect Obama and the Presidential Inaugural Committee for this poignant campaign that will inspire Americans to serve their communities and their country," said Peggy Conlon, President & CEO of the Ad Council. "Media companies have committed to support these new PSAs and I believe this critical effort will encourage Americans to answer President-elect Obama's call to service."
Several media companies have committed to support the PSAs in donated time and space. These media companies include: CBS Television and Radio; NBC Universal; CNN and the Turner Networks (including TNT and TBS); FOX Networks; Clear Channel Radio, Comcast Spotlight and Entercom Radio. The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) will promote the television spots to their members and donate a satellite feed during the week of January 26 for the distribution to the cable industry. Additionally, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is donating a satellite feed for distribution of the radio and television spots to the broadcasting industry this week.
Script for "Step Forward":
President-elect Obama VO:
America's greatness was not crafted in skyscrapers alone...
But on the ground by those who could see what needed to be done.
Volunteers who in service stepped forward... Onto the dust of the moon, a levee in the heartland, the marble steps of a dream.
You may ask yourself: "Where's my moon, my levee, my dream?"
Well, it's here...with you.
President-elect Obama: Step forward. Help renew America at USAService.org.
The Advertising Council - The Ad Council (www.adcouncil.org) is a private, non-profit organization that marshals talent from the advertising and communications industries, the facilities of the media, and the resources of the business and non-profit communities to produce, distribute and promote public service campaigns on behalf of non-profit organizations and government agencies in issue areas such as improving the quality of life for children, preventive health, education, community well-being, environmental preservation and strengthening families.

Didn't you guys shatter every record for political fundraising this year? Didn't you collect more dough than in any previous US election, for both the Dem & GOP candidates PUT TOGETHER? Didn't you win the election over a week ago?
Why are you still hounding us for donations?
It's really Really REALLY sad that this site has not been put to better use, helping to organize community groups nationwide, energizing volunteer activists to shift from campaigning to participation in government, instead of treating it like a candy jar.
3 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD DONATE
Just got back from walking the suburbs and downtown Livingston and I have to say I am glad I did it. I am shy about these things, but I did it because I believe that in doing it I am helping to preserve our democracy.
It is way beyond party lines, or "I hope my candidate wins". We are fighting to keep our country alive.
Wherever you are in America, take it from me, it is worthwhile (and not that hard) to do something to help get out the vote for Obama-Biden. A few hours do help, and you will find if you visit your local campaign office you will get tons of support and knowledge from the campaign workers and your neighbors–millions of ordinary citizens of all ages and walks of life–who are giving up hours and days to do this wonderful and rewarding work.
I've also changed my answering machine message to a voting and volunteering reminder and I am stopping to chat with everyone I se, be it a neighbor, acquantance, or friend, to be sure that they keep the spirit of Change We Need alive, right up until the polls close. I also just dug deep to make another modest donation to Obama-Biden.
And a special shout out to my sister in Pennsylvania who has been so generous with her time and money in this campaign to save our country.
Today is the last day of early voting here in Reno. Our effort today was mainly to find folks that hadn't yet voted early and try to get them to head out before the deadline.
Thousands of people have voted early here in Washoe County. The Reno Gazette-Journal is reporting that, "As of Wednesday night, 78,403 voters had cast ballots in Washoe County — including 35,051 Democrats and 26,913 Republicans."
I'd like to think that we had some effect on those numbers over the past week. There is actually evidence that canvassing does get people to the polls. I've seen the numbers from Sparks and they're very encouraging. Particularly when we're calling on empty houses -- or worse yet, the ones where people are home but don't answer (I can see you! Just answer the door!).
Please join me in making a campaign donation on Thursday or Friday (Oct. 23-24) in honor of Senator Obama's trip to see his ailing grandmother. It would be a travesty if she passed before she has the chance to see her beloved grandson assume the Presidency, which I pray and believe that he will.
Perhaps an influx of donations in her honor will buoy her spirits and sustain her so that she may celebrate with Obama his incredible achievement, made possible in large part by her influence on his development.
I'm sure that the McCain/Palin campaign will try to put a negative spin on the fact that Barack is taking two days off the campaign trail. I'm also sure that whatever attack they come up with will spew forth from the ugly soul and mouth of Sarah Palin. Let's shut them up with a highly visible show of financial support of our candidate.
I'm going to make a donation on Thursday AND Friday to demonstrate my support of my candidate and his respect for the woman who raised him. If you can do the same -- even just $5.00 on Thursday and Friday -- we will make a loud statement that we support him and his priorities.
Obama's campaign has snowballed into a force that the opposing campaign has a hard time reckoning with. But don't let apparent victory lull us into complacency. We need the financial resources to secure our victory in the battleground states of North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Florida. It's not just about getting the numbers to win. The more votes that we garner the bigger the mandate for Obama to implement the policies that will bring about the change he has promised.
I hereby pledge to match the first $5 of every donation up to a total of $50 from the first 10 donors who contribute to this effort. You are, of course, free to donate as much as you like up to the limit allowed by federal law which is $2300. Please donate and thank you for your support!

Just made a small donation to Obama's campaign. Can't relax yet.
I've been counting yard signs & bumper stickers as I travel around central Indiana the past couple of weeks. Right now my count is Obama 116 to McCain 56. I know it is totally unscientific, but if still feels good to have Obama ahead of McCain 2 to 1.
Finally, my husband & I went down to the courthouse yesterday and voted. We were in & out in about 15 minutes. We went at lunchtime. It was easy. The election room is on the 2nd floor of the courthouse. I encourage everyone to vote early.
Now is the time to get involved! - we can't take this election for granted, there are still too many days left before the Presidential Election on November 4th, 2008.
Won't you please consider volunteering for a few hours? There are many way to become involved with the campaign. You could join the phone bank volunteers or register voters, canvassing or whatever else appeals to you.
I was at the Obama headquarters *(in San Diego) volunteering for the phone bank this past week. It was a blast! It's easy, they show you exactly what to do and you don't have to be nervous, you are sharing and reaching out to other Obama supporters. I highly recommend finding a way to get involved - even if it is rallying your friends and family and making sure that everyone is registered to vote before the cut off date.
I also took friends and family with me to the official Obama campaign "Final Debate Watching Party" at Stingaree, in the Gaslamp district of San Diego. We had a blast watching the debate and the excitement of the other Obama supporters was infectious!
Search this site for an upcoming Obama/Biden event, Or find volunteer opportunities in your vacinity. There's also plenty of things you can do from your own home computer or phone, if you'd like to get involved.
You can make a difference! It doesn't take much. Form your own groups online or get your friends and family together and start your own rally group for Obama. Use your email as a vehichle to build a network with friends and family ... decorate your house, yard, balcony, dorm room, etc...
You will have fun and so will your group.
You'll be sending a powerful message to polititians when they see millions of people getting involved in this movement. Millions of voters of every walk of life uniting for change.
Support the Process! EDUCATE, VOLUNTEER AND VOTE!!!
Sincerely, Diana Fragoso

I've been donating $25 a pop through Obama's campaign -- and I just hit the $200 mark tonight.
I know it's not much money in the big scheme of things, but it's a lot of money to me -- and is by far the most money I've ever donated to a campaign!
Let's all rally together and do everything we can these last few weeks to help the campaign! Whether it's donating money, making phone calls, knocking on doors, hanging information packets on doors, or even just wearing an Obama t-shirt -- let's all do something to help!
Ok. I'm going to say it.
I'm bustin' my butt working in a small capacity on the campaign and clicking the donate button on a regular basis. I'm ignoring family and work obligations to keep working on the campaign.
Of all the many things I would like to know in the next 3 weeks, the one burning question in my mind is:
Where the hell is the Obama/Biden campaign kit that I gave a $50 donation for the day after Joe Biden gave his convention speech?
The email said, "Be one of the first..." and I WAS! I was promised an Obama/Biden shirt, lawn sign, magnet, etc. I CLICKED THAT DONATE BUTTON RIGHT AWAY and my contribution was added to my many other contributions.
BUT I HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY CAMPAIGN KIT! AND I HAVE NO WAY OF ASKING SOMEONE TO PONY UP THE STUFF!
Can't write the campaign. Just get an automatically generated email reply.
Some of you reading this might think I'm petty. But i prefer to think of it this way: Barack Obama and Joe Biden have broken their contract with me. That's right! I said it!
If the campaign can't keep a simple promise to me, how can I expect the candidate to keep his promises to America? For anyone who is particulary religious, please feel free to insert the "unto the least of these" Bible quote here.
If I had the time (which I don't because I'm spending all of my meager "free" time working on the campaign), I'd try to find the automatically generated email that I was sent to me when I made the contribution. But what would I do with it? Complain to the Better Business Bureau?
How painful it is to see my magnet, my shirt, my lawn sign being "sold" to other latecomers who are only donating now. It breaks my heart!
So here's the deal. I'll keep up my commitment and continue to bust my ass for this campaign. I want Obama/Biden to be elected.
Now anyone out there who knows anyone who has anything to do with "the kit," I want you to get the campaign to keep it's commitment to me!
GET ME MY OBAMA/BIDEN CAMPAIGN KIT THAT I DONATED $50 FOR AFTER JOE BIDEN SPOKE AT THE CONVENTION!
It's my birthday this Tuesday, 14 October.
With just a couple of weeks to go before election day, funds are needed now as much as they ever were. Your contribution through my fundraising page would be appreciated more than anything else that I can think of.
If you appreciated this message, then please have a look at the rest of my blog, http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/blog/henrymu and if you appreciate my blog, then please donate to the campaign: http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/PListe4Obama
