It can be weakened to leave the person vulnerable to serious illness like cancer or it can be strengthened to fight off powerful invaders and even cancer it's self.

• High levels of stress and sleep deprivation can overwhelm the body and result in cancer.
• High levels of stress and cortisol can suppress the immune system and free radicals can damage the body and DNA.
• Toxic substances can also overwhelm the body, a.k.a. tobacco, alcohol, obesity, and a bad diet can also lead to cancer.
• High levels of sleep deprivation can overwhelm the body, the body is unable to repair itself, unable to fix DNA mutations or damage, and unable to fight off cancer in early stages.

I ended up saving a life because the health care system failed

I was working on our Cancer Education 'hotline' when the call came in and I actually saved a life. I wrote up the story and sent it to CNN. As I expected, they did not think it 'news worthy'. What do you think?

Diet and Stress: Acid-Base Disorders

There are two factors which contribute to a pH imbalance.

• The first is the person’s diet (Food) and the second is the person’s emotional well being (Stress and Anxiety).
• Stress and anxiety are the principal acid generators aside from the diet. (& Sleep Deprivation)

Balancing your pH is widely considered to be the single most important thing you can do for your health.

Louisville for Obama Members -

My company is a corporate sponsor of this year's Light The Night Walk to battle cancer and support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This year's walk is taking place on October 3, 2009 and the Walk in Louisville is going to be held at Waterfront Park.

I'm asking all of you in Louisville for Obama to join our walk team and raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or if you are unable to walk in this year's fundraiser tell others about the event or if possible make a donation to our team.

My friend Marge died from lack of insurance

My friend Marge died last October.

You’ve probably never heard of her. She was one of those “little people” who worked hard, paid her taxes, and tried to live an exemplary life.

According to her death certificate, it was breast cancer that killed her. To my way of thinking, the real reason was lack of insurance.

She was first diagnosed about 15 years ago. They amputated her breast, put her on chemo, and told her to take tamoxifen for the next 5 years.

But tamoxifen is expensive. When she lost her job—and with it her health benefits—she stopped taking it. (The promise of COBRA is empty for so many of us. How do you pay huge health insurance premiums if you have no income?) She found temp work at $9/hr, but that didn’t even pay her bills. She didn’t have anything left over for expensive medicines.

Nine years later, the breast cancer recurred. They treated it aggressively with chemotherapy, but then the hospital discovered that she had no insurance. What? Her new employer had been taking money out of her paycheck every month. What do you mean, no insurance? It turned out that her employer hadn’t been paying the premiums but kept the money himself. The chemo was discontinued. She had to declare bankruptcy. Her employer made promises of restitution, then let her go and dissolved the company. She had neither the money nor the energy for a lawsuit.

Four years later, the cancer returned. This time, her doctor said that it was treatable, but not curable. She qualified for Medicare, and she got good care, but the cancer was everywhere. She showed me the myriad lumps that mottled her flesh. Marge was 5’ 10”, but she weighed 84 pounds when I last saw her. She looked like a skeleton covered with skin. My beautiful Marge, who could have been a model, now looked like a wraith.

Much to everyone’s surprise, she lasted another 10 weeks. But why did she have to die at the tender age of 62? We, who are the richest country in the world, are the only developed country that doesn’t provide health care to all its citizens.

Public officials in Texas and in the health care industry have insisted that we in the U.S. already have universal, government-paid health care, since any citizen can walk into an emergency room and get care. Sure, if you have a bona fide health emergency. And the hospital isn’t already overcrowded. Plus a number of other “ifs” that only matter if it’s your life on the line.

But what if you have a chronic condition, like cancer? Or diabetes? Or asthma? Or rheumatoid arthritis? Or lupus? Or any one of a number of chronic, debilitating diseases that compromise your ability to work and even take care of yourself? None of these automatically qualify you for emergency room treatment. Besides, if you go to one of the hospitals in my area that serves the uninsured, the wait is often 12, 16, and even 18 hours or more. These public hospitals are chronically underfunded and oversubscribed.

We talk about how much it will cost to provide universal health coverage, but no one seems to factor in the cost of lost workdays, lost careers, lost parents, and all the other things that are lost because we let so many people languish in the limbo of the uninsured.

And did I mention that no health insurance provider will insure me at any price?

Cost of health care in private hands

Where is the beef??? As long organiser for "Health care reform 2009" don't spell out the details how they will cut cost of the health care it is impossible to believe in the rhetoric. Medical Establishment will never accept low cost medical intervention, even less, though, to move from treatment to cure. Here is an example:

Case for Cancer:

Only approved treatment (and here I am not talking about cure, mind you) is:

Radiation and chemo - cost: about $50,000. (may be covered by insurance) if patient is lucky it may or may not be end with cancer for s/he. If not s/he may/will require bone marrow transplant. - cost about $250,000. Ordinary insurance do not cover it! How do I know? My wife died from breast cancer. It took me a while to piece it all together. And with horror I am watching what is going on!

Alternative to this hoist:

$50.00 of herbal product drunk/sipped daily for 21 days and you are cured!!! Incredible, you do not believe it?? Just look at the case of personal physician of president John Kennedy! You will be the judge!

So here you have $50 versus $50,000 to $250,000. Its not a hard to understand why honest people offering a cure for cancer are harassed and persecuted and loosing their licenses.

Case with HIV/AIDS are even more revealing.

Monthly "cocktail" cost about $1,000. And this treatment is for life. Cure for HIV/AIDS cost $2,500 to $5,000. Hard to believe it! Just ask Dr. Hulda Clark about her experience with the process and with harassment she has to endure. People offering cure for HIV/AIDS has been persecuted and harassed.

Health care been in the hands of group physicians (AMA) is the issue as in any other business. More money made - better for the business. More "sophisticated", more expensive intervention better. Its no wonder that medical establishment is talking only about treatment never about cure. With only treatment, patient is

obligated to come back for treatment over and over, more likely for life! What a sophistication, what a scam!!

Almost 2 Million Americans Go Bankrupt Due to Medical Bills Each Year

I didn't understand how harrowing that statistic was until this year, as my education moved into the clinic and I got to hear peoples' stories.

I met a 51 year old lady with rhabdomyosarcoma. It's a type of cancer that's very rare in kids, and even rare in adults. End-stage, it can be quite horrific. Since it's a tumor of soft tissue and muscle, the tumors are visible early and can extrude through the skin. That's what happened with this lady.

A dark, red, pustular mass extruded from her armpit. It's size easily that of a soccer ball. She tried to shower several months ago and almost bleed to death. She hadn't cleaned it herself since. As a result, the wound gave off a stench that was nearly unbearable. Her original doctors "left her for dead" about a year ago, but she's kept hanging on.

And the tumor kept growing, swatting aside multiple chemo regimens and surgical procedures. Offshoots had spread to her lungs, liver and brain. Dealing with such a cannonbalistic revolt in her body is hard enough for any soul to struggle against.

But in the American health care system, such is only the beginning. Her husband divorced her. Not because he stopped loving her. In fact, he's still with her, taking care of her. Rather, as her illness was bankrupting them, they realized it was more financially bearable if they weren't technically man and wife. She lost her house. She is forced to move in with her son and his girlfriend. (You can imagine the girlfriend is not too happy about this).

It's the dangerous tredeoff the US healthcare system has made. Our medicine is the most technologically advanced in the world. But a focus on the newest procedures and diagnostic machines has priced out most individuals. It's this issue that many politicians don't understand, when they make blanket statements like "America has the best healthcare in the world" (Dick Cheney).

We DON'T. Measuring overall population health outcomes (which is the most practical and telling data point), we're actually middle of the road (#35). Yet we spend more than any nation in the world (grossly and as a % of GDP).   And attitudes that brush away or ignore the problem ("Anyone can just go to an Emergency Room, can't they?" - George Bush) just compound costs and maintain high degrees of inequity and wasteful allocation.

The fact is, if you're a poor black person in a major urban city, you're health outcomes are no better than the average person in many "3rd world" countries. The system has failed. HMOs, brought in 25 years ago to REDUCE costs, have failed to do so, dramatically. They hang on due to inertia and effective lobbying. It's time we quit this experiment, before more families collapse under the weight of unaffordable healthcare.

Some illnesses can't be cured. That doesn't mean they should steal your family's financial security in the process

Vegan Diet - Cure All? Maybe so!

at the age of 50, (2 years ago) I stopped eating meat and dairy products, (I adopted a vegan diet). I went from 180 lbs back to 155, same as when I was 25. I don't exercise regulary, but I am very active. I never felt better, my cholesterol dropped 25%, blood pressure too, my bowels work like a race horse.

I would say that I have eliminated the chance of heart disease and stroke, and vastly reduced the risk of cancer.

In addition, not eating meat reduced my contribution to green house gasses, (methane and CO2) about as much as switching to a Pruis, (but I bike instead!).

A vegan diet is the answer to many of America's ills. Promote healthy diets!

I think health care costs are too high because of our market driven society. Behaviors that generate the greatest expenditures are those that are promoted. No one is trying to sell beans and rice, because they are $.50/lb. Instead they promote steak, ($12/lb). Doctors do not promote a vegan diet, as it will put them and their drug company backers out of business. It is a $10 Trillion racket.

When I go to the "Grocery" store now, I hit the fresh veggies and fruit, skip everything in the middle, pick up some peanut butter and whole wheat bread, and am out of there! 95% of whats in there is BAD for you.

Is it just ME?

Or is "Facebook" The MOST annoying, DIFFICULT (AND I just noticed, you can't spell "DIFFICULT" when speaking of "Facebook" only! ) without the word "CULT"...What ARE we getting OURSELVES Into? Ever been there?

One finds oneself in hopeless concentric circles that twist your mind into a wet rag! Once you answer ANY question and commit to following along, YOU ARE STUCK! MY ADVICE?

Don't let it happen to you! When "Invited" Let the moment pass! Unless you LIKE MASSIVE headaches! That WILL burn into your very soul, like a hot coal of MALEVOLENT WILL (UNLESS that is your kind of "Thing"!

I LOVE OUR President however ....

But he's NOT INFALLABLE, in fact, he's completely wrung about so-called "clean coal" there is no such beast! Don't get me wrong: I AM all for ""Green Jobs" (a quick aside here; it is currently storming here. Wouldn't it be a kick, were I struck DEAD after fighting cancer for so long?) Gotta find the "Funny" when it gets handed to ya!

Where was I? Oh yes! Green Jobs! "Clean Coal" I used to canvass, or rather, DIRECT CAVASSING ON THIS VERY ISSUE! So believe me when I tell you There is no such thing!

I am well informed on this "Issue"! AND CONSIDER myself, as others do too, something of an expert on the subject at hand. And I'm here to tell ya, while I've seen the jobs CREATED regarding the subject(my Brother's division is funded through this initiative!) and it's GREAT, BUT we need to watch this!

Second Inside Joke

I continued getting sick every morning after exercises. I went to my doctor and everything was A OK. We then moved back to Oregon. Wondering if I was pregnant, I kept seeing a doctor. My weight fluctuated dramatically and I lost my period. My doctor said I was pre-menopausal and gave me some pills. I was not convinced. My grandmother died of ovarian and breast cancer when she was 28. I went back to the doctor requesting an ultrasound. My doctor said there was no need for an ultrasound and I would have to pay for it myself. This was January. In February I paid for my own ultrasound. During the ultrasound, the technician was looking at something that did not look right. She said it was a "computer glitch". I was not convinced, but waited for the doctors reading. The following week I called my doctor's office. They said the ultrasound checked out normal. I caught hell for the expense of the ultrasound. Months past, summer came. I was still not feeling well and had a stomach pain off and on. My doctor still said I was pre-menopausal. I went to my family doctor trying to find answers. At this point people were thinking I was crazy. My stomach pain became severe. My family doctor insisted my OBGYN said there was nothing wrong. I threw my doctor a bone and asked to have an MRI for a past internal injury from a horse kick. He took it. During the MRI, everyone started to panic. Technicians held my hand asking how I felt. Of course they would not tell me anything, but it was then I knew I had ovarian cancer like my grandma. A few days passed and I called my family doctor. The nurse said he would call back. I then called every day. Again the nurse said he would call back. A week passed since the MRI. I insisted the doctor to call me back. Friday night after 6pm the doctor finally called me back. He had a hard time getting the words out, but said I had a tumor the size of a softball on my right side. Really????I think I was more furious than freaked out. That it took so long. I was at a loss for doctors. Who could I really trust with my life now??

The First Inside Joke

My philosophy, live life to the fullest. Life is too short. At the age of 28, when we had it all, our careers, the big custom built house, new cars, and dinner parties every weekend. I wish I would have just sotpped for a minute to just breath. Take a step back out of my busy life and really see if it was what I wanted. One day I woke up and literally could not walk without my knees dislocating. Having 100% health coverage at the time, I flew down to UC Davis. It turns out I have tibial torsion. With all of the hiking, biking, skiing, and horse training, my knees literally tore apart. You truly do not know what you have until it is taken from you. Riding horses is like a breath of fresh air to me. Something I can not live without. After a double knee surgery, doctors told me I could never ski, or train horses ever again. Also to limit my other activities, such as dancing, biking, hiking, and anything fun to me. After surgery my left knee had so much nerve damage afterwards, I literally drug my leg around for over a month. You could stick a needle in my foot and it would not phase me. It was so frustrating, I really considered just cutting the darn thing off. Therapy was a hoot! The therapists tried everything to get my leg to work. After a little shock therapy that sent me threw the roof crying, my therapist told me to rest up at home for another month. It nearly took all summer for me to walk and finally ride my mountain bike. This gave me time to reflect and find out what I wanted out of life. Everything was great except where I was running my business. So I packed up and moved to a private facility a mile down from our house. I also realized I loved teaching kids. So kids became my main focus. I helped out at a kids horse camp that summer and truly enjoyed it. At the end of summer my husband changed jobs. And at the same time I became sick off and on. He traveled a lot and was hardily ever home. We put our dream house up for sale to move closer to family.

nOT ONLY DID WE sell out of Compact discs, garnering the Hospice $120 in donations, you BOOSTED MY "ACTIVITY LEVEL" HERE to 10 out of 10 which makes me very happy! So many of YOU showed up, it was HARD keeping track of y'all RELATIVE TO THOSE FROM MY "CAREPAGE" AND hOSPICE STAFF so thank you again!

We are currently trying to set up a page whereby one can view items thatvhave yet to sell, order "prints" a kind of "one stop" dealio many of the best stuff is still available! Once its up and running, you'll hear all about it! Until then, thank you again for helping it be as Friar John called it, the MOST successful Art show he'd been to!

I'm just gonna be Too Damn Busy to be blogging, given what I told y'all in my last post! A post to which I hope you ALL RESPOND, YES it was, as I admitted, a shameless act of not only "SELF" promotion, but ALSO for the Hospice as well!

As stated, it needs to be made CLEAR that Hospices are NOT "where people go to die", but rather be nurtured into a state, such is my case, where one lives, thrives, and creates!

I am currently LIVING as opposed to the miscontsrued perception of what Hospices are really all about!
