I have been watching the news and listening to bloggers who are still bothered by Democratic Primary. Let's get straight to the point. Where would we be if Clinton had won? We all would be behind her to defeat the Republican machine. In researching almost the last 70 years, you cannot tell me that we have been that well run through Republican executive power. We have had some good outtings, but it has built us a financial debt that we solved under the Clinton administration in the 1990s. Now, let's rewind that 30 years. How do you explain to your children to be fiscally responsible when your leadership was not? It took a strong concern of intranational issues to bring us out of debt. In other words, we started working together. Now, in just 8 years, we are dealing with these issues three fold. Why? Because all of the bad things that are happening around the world besides correcting 9/11 are our business.
Now, don't get me wrong. If we are attacked, I believe we should retaliate in short detail. But, even your house would not spend all of your grocery money unless there were good reason to divert that cash. Let's put this into our own home context. I am spending uncontrollably. My family needs clothes, food, shelter, and I cannot pay. So, do I raid their college so that we can continue my issue? You decide. My household would not be able to survive this irresponsibility. More importantly, my children would not understand.
So, now how do I explain to my children that we are working for change when we are too quick to be upset at others? The greatest families in the world, resolve disputes and move on. They continue to dialogue and stop taking swipes at each other. THE WORLD IS WATCHING OUR HOUSE NOW!!! I am tuning in to see people attack Barack and Michelle still. Are you kidding me? Do you stay that angry in your household? When do you let your anger work for you to change your mindset? If you have not, we are in for another 8-12 years of getting nowhere fast.
I,nor you, can explain to my children that we did not do everything we could to put them in a better place. If we are all in a boat and half the people are rowing east and the other half are rowing west, where do we go? Right. Now we have provided that movement for the past 8 years, and more importantly, we would rather fight about who is guiding us, instead of helping guide. Everytime we pick up the blog and leave something behind, we affect others. I want your children to enjoy the same better future I am providing for my children. It is just a lot easier to get there if we row in the same direction. How do you explain your actions to your kids if this is not the case?
I have been very moved by this video from Bronx High School of Performance and Stagecraft. The teacher, Jackson Shafer, introduces the school as a really tough area of the South Bronx, and his students as facing the economic challenges and emotional traumas that result from growing up in a disadvantaged environment. But, fortunately, we can see the impact of Barack's inspirational message at all levels of our society. Watching these inner city kids articulate their feelings and unfold their thoughts in the light of Barack's transcending message has profoundly touched me.

Here is the address of the high school. I think the teacher, Jackson Shafer, deserves our kudos.
We held a great Obama House Party this past Sunday (January 27). Over 20 people attended the event - - folks from all over the Northwest Bronx (Riverdale to Amalgamated Houses to down-the-street neighbors).
Fantastic discussion! After the stupendous South Carolina win, we were charged up. We spent a lot of time talking about why we were supporting Obama - - and those few who were on the fence talked about why they were interested in Obama. Lots of lively back and forth. Even the kids got involved. Some folks raised questions about Obama and labor and about Obama and Israel. By that night, we were using email to circulate position papers and news stories about Obama's positions.
The press was in attendance as well. Look for something in the Riverdale Press this Tues or Wed, whenever the paper hits the streets.
We're planning on leafletting 231st and Bway on Thursday and over the weekend. We'd also like to hit Johnson Avenue (in Riverdale) and 225th and Bway. If you'd like to help out - - let me know!
This is what politics is about - - people getting together and working together to make change. Venceremos!

PS Wish I could post photos from the event here . . .
