A group of us, now numbering over 30 and growing daily, who campaigned for Obama and have become more politically active in the last year or so would like to continue the efforts to bring about meaningful positive change in Bridgewater and Somerset County. We have met three times to discuss how best to improve governance locally. We are all busy with families and work pressures so we meet approximately once a month for a couple of hours and use email and phone in between to make change.

Our first task has been to reach out to the Bridgewater Democratic Municipal Committee (the official Democratic organization of 72 people in Bridgewater), energize it and help it in selecting candidates for Bridgewater Town Council. There are three seats that will be vacated this November 2009 and the deadline for petitions is April 6, 2009. All 5 seats and the mayor are Republican. There has not been a Bridgewater Town Council seat held by a Democrat for 18 years. We do not think this represents good governance and are working to have bi partisan representation in Bridgewater Town Council. Good governance will help lower our taxes, improve our services and ensure we are all better served by our elected officials.
