The stirrings of anger or impatience which, worst of all, you call nervousness or holy indignation; a touchy, sensitive spirit; a disposition to resent and retaliate when disapproved of or contradicted; a desire to throw sharp, heated remarks at another? Self-will; a stubborn, unteachable spirit; an arguing, talkative spirit; harsh, sarcastic expressions; an unyielding, headstrong disposition; a driving, commanding spirit; a disposition to criticize and pick flaws when set aside and unnoticed; a peevish, fretful spirit; a disposition that loves to be coaxed and humored? Deuteronomy 1:43; Malachi 2:2; James 3:17; 2. Pe. 2:10.
Carnal fear; a man-fearing spirit; a shrinking from reproach and duty; reasoning around your cross; a shrinking from doing your whole duty to those of wealth or position; a fearfulness that someone will offend and drive some prominent person away; a compromising spirit? 1. Sam. 15:24; Proverbs 29:25; Galatians 2:12; 1. John 4:18.
A jealous disposition; a secret envy shut up in your heart; an unpleasant sensation in view of the great prosperity anf success of another; a disposition to speak of the faults and failings, rather than the gifts and virtues of those more talented and appreciated than yourself? Genesis 26:12-16; 1, Sam 18:8,9; Proverbs 6:34; 14:30; Matthew 21:15; Romans 12:9,10.
A dishonest, deceitful disposition; the evading and covering of the truth; the covering up of your real faults; leaving a better impression of yourself than is strictly true; a false humility; exaggeration; straining the truth? Psalm 15:2,3, Isaiuah 29:13; Jeremiah 17:9; Matthew 23:28; Luke 22:48; Acts 5:2,3; 1. Timothy 4:2.
Unbelief; a spirit of discouragement in times of pressure and opposition; lack of quietness and confidence in God; lack of faith and trust in God; a disposition to worry and complain in the midst of pain, poverty, or at the dispensations of Divine Providence; an over-anxious feeling whether everything will come out all right? Isaiah 7:9; Luke 12:28-30; 1. Corinthians 2:14; 2. Corinthians 5:6; Hebrews 11:6; 1. Peter 5:7.
Formality and deadness; lack of concern for lost souls; dryness and indifference; lack of power with God? Matthew 15:14, 2. Timothy 3:5, Revelation 2:4: 3:1.

These are some of the traits which generally indicate a carnal heart. By prayer, hold your heart open to the searchlight of God until you see the very insides thereof. “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if therebe any wicked way in me“ (Psalm 139:23,24).
The Holy Ghost will enable you, by confession and faith, to bring your “-life“ to the death. Do not patch over, but go to the very bottom and clean out all the dross. It alone will pay.

Sara's pulse quickened at the realization that within her a new life had begun. She marveled at the miracle of conception. Her heart was full of awe and gratitude to God for choosing her as a vessel through which to bring another soul into being.
Her loving glance took in two-year-old Lee playing happily with his toy animals. His „Moo, moo“ and „Baa, baa“ sounded so sweet coming from his little lips as he raised his trusting blue eyes to meet hers.
Over in the little rocker, four-year-old Jane sweetly sang as she rocked and patted her doll. Sara recalled her trusting, sincere request in her bedtime prayer. „And dear God, please give us a baby if it is Your will.“
Sara reflected upon being with child. The initial joy was followed by morning sickness, growing anticipation, discomfort, fears, apprehension, and finally the travail of birth. How perfectly Christ had described her experience in John 16:21, „A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.“ Her joy had overflowed when she had beheld her baby for the first time, cradled in her dear husband's arms. A baby was so helpless and dependant, yet so perfect, from its soft, downy hair to its tiny, pink toes.
Sara smiled as she recalled the first heart-warming smiles. Then the excitement of watching the develop, learn to sit, crawl, and finally take that first tottery step. She recalled the baby's gurgling and cooing, then the first words, followed by continual questions as its young mind expanded in knowledge.
Sara also remembered the horrifying feeling when her precious, sweet child had stiffened and screamed in clear expressions of anger. She and her husband had studied what the Bible says about child training. „The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame ... Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul“ (Proverbs 29:15,17 ). How precious to know that God, who created the child, also wrote the intructions for training the child. How rewarding to witness the change from a tyrant to a jewel when God's methods of discipline were properly administered.
Sure, there were interrupted nights, sickbed vigils, loads of dirty laundry, and heartaches to nurse and heal. But this was her God-given role. In it, she found fulfillment – fulfillment in meeting the physical needs of growing little ones, fulfillment in filling eager, open, innocent little minds with the knowledge of God, and fulfillment in seeing them respond to love and correction.
As Sara reminisced, a prayer ascended from her full heart. „Father, I thank Thee for Your gift of a godly husband and the fruit of our love for each other. O Father, grant wisdom and grace that we may mold these precious lives in Your image.“
No career, position, fame, or honor will yield the joys and rewards of motherhood. The Bible is very clear that conception is a visitation from God. When Hannah asked God for a son, „the Lord remembered her“ (1. Samuel 1:19) and gave her a son. „Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward“ (Palm 127:3).
God givs clear instructions concerning motherhood. „I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house“ (1. Timothy 5:14). Throughout history, godly women have found joy and fuilfillment in carrying out this command. A marriage with mutual love, fidelity, and lifelong commitment is essential for experiencing joy i motherhoood.
Men have become aware of the tremendous development in a young child's brain. During this time of development, the mother should be the governing influence in the child's life. A very, young child'd brain has millions of nerve cells (neurons) growing, specializing, and making connections with other cells. By age three, over one quadrillion such links are formed. Interaction between mother and child during these early, formative years greatly increases creativity and intelligence through life.
Mothers who leave their children at the day-care center or with baby sitters rob themselves and their children of many joys . The future of a nation rests withing the lap of mothers. God will abundantly reward faithful mothers who honor His will for them. „Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her“ (Proverbs 31:28).

Child abuse has become a major issue in America today. According to the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, 2.5 million children are abused each year.
Physical, sexual and emotional abuse are listed as being the nature of most child abuse cases, but did you know that there is a type of child abuse in our society which is far worse than physical, sexual or emotional abuse? It's true! Millions of innocent children are being abused everyday BY THEIR OWN PARENTS!
Millions of parents take great pride in the fact that they are providiung their children with proper food, shelter, clothing and education, but at the same time these parents are FAILING to provide their children with their greatest need of all! Yes, food, shelter, clothing and education are important, but the Lord Jesus Christ says that there is something far MORE important: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.“ Mt. 6:33.
According to Jesus Christ, the most important need in a person's life is their need to escape damnation of Hell by entering into the Kingdom of God. You may be meeting the CARNAL needs of your children, but what about their SPIRITUAL needs? Jesus also said: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?“ Mk. 8:36.
Friend, you can provide your children with every carnal necessity under the sun, but if you are not providing for their spiritual needs, then you are committing child abuse of the worst kind: SPIRITUAL CHILD ABUSE! You may not think much of it, but God thinks a great deal of it. Psalm 127:3-5 says that children are aqn heritage of the Lord and that they are His reward. God expects parents to raise their children RIGHT, and He will hold those accountable who do not.
In Proverbs 22:6 we are commanded to “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.“ God commanded the Israelites to TEACH their children the word of God in Deuteronomy 6:6,7, and Paul tells you and me to bring up our children “in the fear and admonition of the Lord.“ Eph. 6:4.
Parents, you have the first 18-20 years of your children's lives to properly TRAIN them in the ways of God. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to train them for a life of devotion to God. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILILTY to provide them with a clean Christian home , with Bible reading and prayer in the home, and with a Bible believing church. It is also your responsibility to encourage them to seek out good Christian friends for fellowship. Are you meeting these important needs? What are you doing to bring your children closer to the Lord Jesus Christ? Are your children saved? Are you? Parent, what are you doing to keep your children from spending eternity in a burning Hell?
Many parents say, “I don't believe in telling my children what to believe about God and the Bible. I think they should decide that for themselves.“ NONSENSE! You're just crazy! You don't let your children decide whetheror not to take a bath, do yo? You don't let them make up their own mind about going to school, do you? NO, YOU DON'T! You believe in TEACHING your children to do right; so why won't you teach them about Jesus Christ and the wonderful Salvation that He offers? Parent, are you training up your children in the ways of God, are are you letting them gradually wander into the arms of Satan?
Jesus said in Mark 10:14, “Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.“ If you are not living a devoted Christian life for the Lord Jesus Christ, then you are abusing your children by STANDING IN THEIR WAY. You are setting a bad example for them, and God will certainly hold you accountable. In Acts 16:31, Paul and Silas told the Philippian jailer to “believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, and they house.“
Friend, have you been saved? Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior? If not, then you need to receive Him today. If not, then you need to receive Him today. John 1:12 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the soons of God, even to them that believe on his name.“ To RECEIVE Jesus Christ is to BELIEVE on His name. Acts 4:12 says, “Neither is their salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.“
We are all sinners, according to Romans 3:23, which says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.“ Romans 5:12 and Psalm 51:5 tell us that we were BORN in sin with a sin nature. That is, we INHERITED our sin nature from Adam. But Jesus Christ came to PAY for our sins and give us a NEW sinless nature. So those who receive Christ as their Savior are BORN AGAIN (John 3:3) in Christ.
Romans 5:8-9 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.“ The wrath of God will fall upon everyone who refuses to receive His Son as Lord and Savior. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.“ John 14:6. In Luke 13:3 Jesus said, “... except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.“
Friend, God wants you to turn from your sins and RECEIVE the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.“ Paul says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.“ Eph. 2:8,9.
Your sins have all been paid for, and your Salvation is free, IF you will receive Jesus Christ as your Savior, trusting HIM ALONE to save you. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.“ Then we read these blessed words in Romans 10:9: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised him from the dead , thou shalt be saved.“
The decision is yours, and the time to make it is RIGHT NOW. Will you pray and ask the Lord to save you? Will you give up on your own self-righteousness and trust Christ alone? Will you become a true Christian and set your house in order? Will you become the parent that God wants you to be for your children? The decision is yours, and we'll pray that you'll receive Jesus Christ today.

And sometimes, they can be pretty cool. The trailer for Stephen King’s new book, Under The Dome, falls squarely into the “cool” category. The novel follows the inhabitants of a small town that is trapped in a huge, clear dome by unknown forces.Some say King’s best years are behind him; I disagree. That’s not to say I enjoy every last one of his books – hell, the man’s written so many, there’s no way they could all be great. But when he’s on, he’s one of the best writers in modern horror (and sometimes science fiction). To me, it seems that he’s at his best when he gives himself room to breathe, page-wise. The Stand is brilliant; so is It. Both are over 1000 pages. The Dark Tower series, his masterpiece, unfolds over the course of seven increasingly long books. Under The Dome will be 1088 pages long; hopefully, that means we can expect the epic storytelling and surprisingly personal character development the author, at his best, is capable of.Check out the trailer below; it’s short, but it got me kinda pumped for this book.

When people will release the past, everybody will experience clarity of mind, emotional aliveness and physical health. The basic cell of society in islands of light will not be a family of personalities (father, mother and children) but a family of souls (twin souls, soulmates and other members of a soul family). People will connect there energetically and telepathically with angels, guides and extraterestrials. Through islands of light a physical connection between the surface of the planet and extraterrestrial civillizations will be established. There will be teleportation chambers in islands of light through which it will be possible to travel into the Resistance movement, for some people into the Atlantean network and also towards the Pleiadian motherships. When the network of light will be strong and stable enough this will enable mass landings of Pleiadian starships. The Pleiadians will assist humanity during its transition towards the New age and with the process of acceptance of this planet into the Galactic confederation. They will anchor energy columns that will guide planet Earth throuh its transformation during its entry into the inner section of the tachyon belt.When the critical mass of consciousness will be achieved the first wave of Ascension will occur. Motherships of the Galactic confederation will hover as brilliant white clouds above the islands of light, where teleportation beams will descend and lift the volunteers into the motherships. Those volunteers will reappear on Earth shortly in Ascended state in their rainbow bodies of light. Soon afterwards another critical mass will be achieved and the second wave of Ascension will happen. Masses of Ascended masters that will return to Earth will prepare humanity for the third wave of Ascension and for the Evacuation. Great planetary cataclisms will begin then as a cleansing of the physical matter of the planet. At the moment of most intensive cataclisms a polar shift will happen and that will trigger the third wave of Ascension with final Evacuation. Linear time as we know it will end and Earth will enter a new, higher dimension. This is a moment when the Mayan calendar ends, a moment in 2012.

On our countdown to a new year in 2010, Paul Broun (R-Ga.) wants everyone to ring in the “Year of the Bible”. He wants to pass legislation to honor the good book. Opposition is strong in the Democratic party, but whats the big deal? We’re already burning them suckers in Afghanistan. I wrote a post about it, and got negative feedback from every dem, saying I’m a GOP’r in disguise. In fact, I’m just a student pointing out similarities between different governments past and present. That isn’t choosing sides at all. When people see a political blog, they are automatically trying to figure out what party I am affiliated with. None. Well, whoever decides to pay me the most. Just kidding(That’s illegal for all you kids out there, no selling votes.) Sorry for ranting but I’ve been enraged at some of my readers that just don’t get the whole picture. Someone said I’m a Christian that hates America. No, I’m a Christian that loves America; the thought of America more like it. It used to stand for something, and all I see and read is how far it has gone from what our forefathers set forth to achieve. I am not ashamed of being an American. Our differences are what makes this country unique. I say instead of the “Year of the Bible”, we just go with the Chinese astrology and name it after an animal. Or we can ring in the New Year as a world united. All across Washington people are joking about what year its going to be after that. Year of the encyclopedia? Quran? Las Vegas escort Pamphlets? Whatever the year, I’ll be ringing it in with a smile, knowing I’m in a country that spends too much time on a stupid idea. It is upon us, the Christmas of two thousand and eight. I have sipped of the Don David and made my wish for the happiness of those who have fallen before me. That one sip of a fine Argentinian Malbec, a product from a valley where maybe God reigns over this night. Do you believe in God? I think of such things on this night. It is so cold out there, so blowing and white. My 'advent' trees shine up upon the hill and spokes of light and color radiate out over the sweep of the deep snow, with movement from the wind making them twinkle and play. Is there a God? I don't know. Do you sometimes fall upon your knees and tell your troubles to Him, then ask for His help? I do, and have over the years. Do you ever ask for a ''sign' of His existence? Any sign at all, no matter how subtle or marginal? Then look about for such? I do, and have over the years. In driving I sometimes think of Him as my co-pilot, and even look over at the empty seat, from time to time. Does that me make me totally whacked? If I confessed those acts to a shrink, would the shrink find me certifiable? I mean, more certifiable than I am from other stuff? Do you do any of this? Would you tell if you did? I tried to be a good Catholic, in my early years, then fell away. I tried to be a bad Catholic, but that did not work either. I read the Bible and argued with people who were supposed to know that work backwards and forwards. Reborn Christians. Maybe I fit with them best, simply because they do not mind if I say that "God did not give me the gift of faith." I have studied the Koran, as well, and found it to be strange, going from back to front, as it does. A lot like the Bible, but not. I once, long ago, went down on my knees, literally, and presented the 'Unseen Above' with a list I had written on a yellow note pad. I had written down nine items. The items were problems that I was experiencing, or was afraid of, which had no possiblity of solution whatsoever, outside of divine intervention. I asked for those problems to be taken away. The next day, over coffee with a good friend, who believed more than I, I told him of my act. He asked to see the list, so I produced it. He read the nine items slowly, then looked over the top of the paper at me, as if in wonder that a person such as I could have problems of that magnitude. He shook his head, then smiled. He tore up the list right there, in front of me. And he said, "Now, go out there and those problems will be gone. We spend most of our lives worrying about problems that never happen." We left. Over the next three months the problems, all nine, went away. My question, on this Chrismas Eve night is, did those problems go away because of what Bob said, or because I had put them forth to God and He acted? Or was it all bizarre coincidence? I can't remember the problems anymore, but I wish I could. And how life changes. When I ask God for help now, it is usually because I am asking for Him to help other people, or for Him to help me to help other people. Is it His work that I do not feel that I have to ask him to resolve my own problems anymore? I do not expect any answers from you, out there, on this night. I don't even really expect that anyone will read this, but it is okay if people do. Just for fun. And for their own introspection. We don't often really take the time to isolate ourselves and think such thoughts, or ask ourselves such questions. But I think it would be better if we did. Do you think so too?
I received a gift from a friend, just before he headed South for the holiday. Back when I was 'operational,' during Desert Shield (the operation to prepare us for Desert Storm) I ran a group of communications guys out in the Arabian desert. Our job was to move into Iraq from Saudi Arabia and test the communications capabilities of the Iraqi forces. We were looking for holes in their surveillance net. We found a lot of them, so the mission was a great success. But I lost eleven guys doing it. Back then, our control, back in the home office, used to give us Mont Blanc pens after the completion of a successful mission. The regular size black and gold one for team members and a maroon one for the mission commander. That was me. Some of the guys who passed over did not have surviving family (common to field personnel of that ilk) so I got their personal effects. And the Mont Blanc pens they had accumulated. So I had, and still have, quite a collection of those fine writing specimens. Once and awhile, I give one away to someone I find deserving. I gave a black and gold one to this man here, a friend of mine, just before he left on his trip. And I did not tell him the significance of the gift. Now, here is the amazing thing. He also gave me a gift. It was a small oblong box. I opened it to discover a Mont Blanc pen, just like the one I had given him, except brand spanking new. We laughed. Then he added something. He said that the pen he had given me at least had a full cartridge of ink! I realized that I had not checked the writing capability of the one I had given him. It was, of course, the original that had been in that pen since it was issued way back in the eighties. I nodded and smiled in mirth with him. But I did not tell him about the history of the instrument. Even though he is a noted historian, i was not sure he would like the sentiment and provenance of the gift. But it is Christmas, and those boys gone by, who fought and gave everything, believing it was for us, well, I think they would be okay with the gift. I always wondered why we were given such 'after-action awards.' Most of the guys were not even readers, much less writers. But life is strange, and you just don't get to know some things. Is there a God? Did those pens come from or through him? If they did, then what is their significance?
It is an interesting time to be alive, as this day closes, and Christmas, that single brief day, opens. We are in such dire straights, as a nation, a culture, a way of life. We have a new team at the helm. We have Obama and Clinton and Richardson, and more. We have hope and a shining dream of a grand trip back to a future steeped of the past. We are 'marching to Pretoria, so to speak, and we are doing so with a bit of hesitation and trepidation. We don't know who to trust or why we should trust them. But we have to trust somebody. No choice is a choice in of itself. Or is it as they used to say in early Marine Officer training: "Any decision is better than no decision at all." I don't know so many things. All I can do is celebrate certain things that just feel right. Hilary, who I can't be allowed in front of, particularly on this night, said that "the time of Cowboy diplomacy is over." And I stood up and cheered to hear that on CNN earlier. Some things are going right in this pocket of the universe.
I am going to make a list of nine problems. I am going to get on my knees and ask Him to take those problems away. Then I am going to go see Bob (he is a friend to this day!) and present my list to him over a morning cup of coffee. When Bob tears up the list, as I know he will, my smile will grow broader and my hope for the future warmer, and filled with blissful expectation. Merry Christmas to one and all.
President-Elect Obama to be Sworn in Using the Lincoln BibleBible Available for Press Viewing from 11:00 AM to Noon TODAY
Washington, D.C. - On January 20th, President-elect Barack Obama will take the oath of office using the same Bible upon which President Lincoln was sworn in at his first inauguration. The Bible is currently part of the collections of the Library of Congress. Though there is no constitutional requirement for the use of a Bible during the swearing-in, Presidents have traditionally used Bibles for the ceremony, choosing a volume with personal or historical significance. President-elect Obama will be the first President sworn in using the Lincoln Bible since its initial use in 1861.
"President-elect Obama is deeply honored that the Library of Congress has made the Lincoln Bible available for use during his swearing-in," said Presidential Inaugural Committee Executive Director Emmett Beliveau. "The President-elect is committed to holding an Inauguration that celebrates America's unity, and the use of this historic Bible will provide a powerful connection to our common past and common heritage."
The Lincoln Bible will be available for a press viewing between 11:00 AM and Noon today in the Members' Room on the first floor of the Library of Congress' Thomas Jefferson Building at 10 First St. S.E. in Washington, D.C.
Video and still cameras are permitted. Media should allow 10-15 minutes to clear security at the First Street entrance to the Jefferson Building. Clark Evans, who heads the Reference Services Section of the Rare Book and Special Collections Division of the Library of Congress, will also be available at that time to answer questions about the Lincoln Bible and the Library. High-resolution photographs of the Bible are also available upon request. RSVP is not required. Please contact the PIC Communications Office with questions.
The Bible was originally purchased by William Thomas Carroll, Clerk of the Supreme Court, for use during Lincoln's swearing-in ceremony on March 4, 1861. The Lincoln family Bible, which is also in the Library of Congress's collection, was unavailable for the ceremony because it was packed away with the First Family's belongings, still en route from Springfield, IL, to their new home at the White House.
The Bible itself is bound in burgundy velvet with a gold-washed white metal rim around the three outside edges of both covers. All its edges are heavily gilded. In the center of the top cover is a shield of gold wash over white metal with the words "Holy Bible" chased into it. The book is 15 cm long, 10 cm wide, and 4.5 cm deep when closed. The 1,280-page Bible was published in 1853 by the Oxford University Press.
Annotated in the back of the volume, along with the Seal of the Supreme Court, is the following: "I, William Thomas Carroll, clerk of the said court do hereby certify that the preceding copy of the Holy Bible is that upon which the Honble. R. B. Taney, Chief Justice of the said Court, administered to His Excellency, Abraham Lincoln, the oath of office as President of the United States ..."
The Lincoln Inaugural Bible will be on display at the Library of Congress February 12th to May 9th, 2009, as part of an exhibition titled "With Malice Toward None: The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Exhibition." The exhibit will then travel to five other American cities. The Library is planning several other events and programming in commemoration of the bicentennial of the birth of the nation's 16th president, who was born on February 12th, 1809.

As a grad student at a Pentecostal University and an Assemblies of God minister, my support (rather vocal, at that) for Obama has made me the target for quite the number of email forwards, personal notes, phone calls, Facebook posts and messages, and, of course, the occasional sarcastic comment. Inevitably, these concerned friend, University officials, and random acquaintances all have the same primary complaints: Abortion, gay rights, and the faith of Obama himself.
Brian 1:2 So spake the Fool in prayer before the angry masses on that 11th Day of October 2008, the year of our Lord: "there are millions of people around this world praying to their god—whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah—that [Barack Obama] wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they're going to think that their God is bigger than you if that happens."
Brian 1:3 And lo, the huddled mob—rabid with loathing and stricken, like others before them, with a fear of change and leaders of color—praised the Fool with applause. And both were pleased in their ignorance. The fool in question of course is Arnold Conrad, former pastor of Grace Evangelical Free Church, pleading with God at a John McCain rally in Iowa. However, unlike the shrewd fools in literature from Socrates to Shakespeare, this one is anything but wise. For the sake of argument, let's ignore the fact he's a pastor and alleged scholar of religion and give the Fool the benefit of the doubt. After all, an imbecile can't reasonably be expected to know that Hindu is not a god (or even a proper noun for that matter), Buddha isn't a deity either, and neither are prayed to by anyone. Anywhere.
And of course, while any average idiot—except this one apparently—knows Allah is the same God prayed to and worshiped by Christians and Jews, we needn't require Pastor Arnie to understand these or other religions and cultures. Why? Because, despite his Doctor of Ministry degree, that brand of cultural sensitivity and theological understanding is anathema to a myopic and intellectually incurious fundamentalist. The pomposity of this self-righteous dolt notwithstanding, I'm always amazed by proselytizers who pray, prattle and pontificate with the arrogant assumption they know who God is rooting for—as if God has a stake or interest in a particular candidate.
Prayers like Pastor Arnie's are futile of course and as patently absurd as asking the almighty to intervene in the Superbowl. But the obvious silliness doesn't stop so many evangelicals from so frequently contending Republicans are the party of God and John McCain (R-Nazareth) is Christ's personally vetted nominee for President. Their presumption is as comical as their worldview is provincial. My personal hunch is that God doesn't much care about American electoral politics but, if s/he does, I doubt s/he'd be categorically opposed to a Democrat. Barack Obama is a Christian. He was "saved," he was baptized, and he was a regular congregant in a Church of Christ for over 20 years. Besides—from the right to universal health care, nondiscrimination, and racial/gender equality to the eradication of poverty, earning of a living wage, dealing with AIDS and tax relief for those who actually need it—Democrats and their standard-bearers have traditionally favored policies uniquely more suited for and geared towards the middle and working classes and the poor/disenfranchised. In other words, Obama's policies tend to support the very people that the foolish pastor's God named "the Salt of the Earth" in the best-selling book s/he "authored" thousands of years ago. Christ didn't say much in favor of the free market, unprovoked war, assault weapons for "hunting," or tax-cuts for the rich and he was completely silent on those "cardinal sins" of abortion and gay marriage. But he did have an abundance of opinions about equality, justice, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness and love, as well as leaving judgment of others to God and taking care of our neediest brothers and sisters. So frankly, Pastor Arnie, I still don't think God is rooting for either candidate, but if s/he is, given their agreement on the issues, my money's on Obama. I'll give you 5:1 odds on your money for McCain, but I'd call that a Fool's Bet. Matthew 25:40 "And the King answering shall say to them, 'Verily, I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me.'"
