Art is not a luxury or a nice to have but a necessity of life. Beauty is needed in times of hardship and distress to warm and sooth the heart. Let us help our President Obama achieve his mission for the arts. Join me if you believe that there is ART in every HEART.
Acclaimed Latino artist, Rafael Lopez has added a special limited edition print to our “Artists for Obama” gallery. Lopez, from San Diego, has designed several pieces for the United States Postal Service, including the Mendez vs. Westminster stamp in 2007. He writes:
"Barack Obama is a genuine voice for the issues we face in America and the world. His vision and leadership has energized Americans and people around the globe to demand real change. 'Voz Unida' in Spanish translates to 'united voice.' I know we can make the world better by working together and listening to one another. This will bridge the divides that only lead to misunderstanding, intolerance and conflict—divides that concern me as a world citizen, a husband, and a father. I was inspired to paint this poster for my young son as a way to express the hope I have for his future. As an artist I believe Barack Obama exemplifies the united voice of all of us, standing up for everyone who believes that a better tomorrow can become a reality very soon."

I sent some of my Obama buttons to Valerie Jarrett a couple of weeks ago. She is a senior advisor to Barack Obama. I just received a hand-signed letter from her, saying that she and Michelle Obama would be wearing them proudly! So... anyone out there spots a "via delia" Obama button on either of them, please send me a photo!!
I received an email yesterday from Libby Moore, Oprah's personal assistant. She said she had received the buttons I sent them, and that are "very cool." She also said. "I will wear one this Friday when Oprah and Michelle Obama speak at a National Women's Conference here in Chicago." So... if you are in Chicago tomorrow, Oct 10th, and happen to spot her - - - please send me a photo! I would so love to see that...
I am still shipping out 300-900 buttons a day, and am now making zipper pulls. They have been very popular as pet collar and key chain attachments.
I am currently cutting lots of decorative paper from India - very bright!
As we get closer to election day, I expect online button sales to slow down. I am thinking about packing up a large inventory and heading over the mountains to the Portland Saturday Market. I just don't want to get RAINED on!!
Minneapolis-based musicians J.P. DeLaire and Tre Balfour have written a song inspired by Sen. Obama's message of hope and change for America. The song, In My Life is a "passionate and gritty" exploration of the challenges facing American society.
Here's how J.P., who is currently a saxaphone player for Michael Bolton, describes In My Life:
After several months of witnessing some of the music videos and messages that are currently being aired on TV and across the Internet by various artists, I was inspired to address my support for Obama's candidacy in a more serious tone. In My Life touches on multiple world events that have affected our communities across the globe, and to our detriment here in the US, under the current Leadership. My belief is that Obama is the Leader who inspires and is able to make change. Obama's ability to communicate and unite is powerful. He is innovative, humble, charismatic, believable, genuine and extremely soulful. His ability to connect to a newer generation of people is what is appealing to me. We are a nation that is thirsty for truth and spirit behind what is being presented to us, and I believe that Obama is the person that is able to deliver. I wrote, "In My Life" to get people to think and feel... We are bright and intelligent people. Let's get out and vote, and enable CHANGE!

Scott Hansen’s Progress poster is fantastic and the detail is incredible!
I wanted to make a suggestion for a possible follow-on for the Obama Store.
Reporting on Barack’s capture of the Democratic Nomination in Montana, the San Francisco Chronicle (06/04/08) ran a fabulous picture of Barack with a US flag centered behind his head and his arms spread out like an eagle’s wings with his finger spread out like feather tips. There is also the “CHANGE” poster in front of the podium. [Note: This was the lead image in a late night post.]
After calming down from the power of the image, two thoughts crossed my mind. First, Barack does look like an eagle in the picture. Second, who could capture this change or metamorphosis in an image? I thought surely the superb artist Scott Hansen could!
Other interesting symbolism is that Barack was honored with the Native American Indian Crow surname of “Black Eagle.”
The image from the Chronicle has three main components: the American Flag, Obama himself, and the Change poster on the podium. I would suggest creating an image that replaces these three powerful images with symbols. For example, the flag could be replaced with the Obama logo. Obama himself could be replaced with a silhouette of a bald eagle wings outstretched. The change poster could be replaced with a nature scene (perhaps things in bloom).
Just an idea to consider.
See relocated children of Tibet living in India, through an artist's eyes. They don't know why their lives have changed or where their loved ones have gone. Creating this you tube was my small way of showing support for the Obama Movement of Change (end the war). Consciously approaching the concept of encouraging peace not war, I feel Barack is the only candidate that can bring the change we need. The integrity and dignity reflected in his good judgement will bring peace on earth.
I see no other way to achieve the correct result. McCain is too old and out of touch with what we ,as Americans need, to restore the honorable standing that is necessary in the world. If we don't end this war and the economic disaster that ensues, it appears that America will end up functioning as third world country. Can we afford to let that happen? After a lifetime, I had to change from Republican to be able to vote for Obama. Let's end the senseless fighting so we can focus on important things like health care for all.

Fairey wrote about Barack, "I believe with great conviction that Barack Obama should be the next President. I have been paying close attention to him since the Democratic convention in 2004. I feel that he is more a statesman than a politician. He was against the war when it was an unpopular position (and Hillary was for the war at that time), Obama is for energy and environmental conservation."
We were honored to have commissioned this limited edition Obama print that you can purchase at Store.BarackObama.com.
"I wanted to make an art piece of Barack Obama because I thought an iconic portrait of him could symbolize and amplify the importance of his mission. I believe Obama will guide this country to a future where everyone can thrive and I should support him vigorously for the sake of my two young daughters. I have made art opposing the Iraq war for several years, and making art of Obama, who opposed the war from the start, is like making art for peace. I know I have an audience of young art fans and I'm delighted I can encourage them to see the merits of Barack Obama." - Shepard Fairey
