Death pours from the HATEARTLAND,
dripping in money,
they turn a blind eye
as the HATEARTLAND
drinks blood.
thanks for all your hatred of art,
you are wonderful.
another day,
same answer,
no to art.
In 1927, the Weimar Republic - the democratically elected government of Germany passed mandatory unemployment benefits for the needy. That's rather progressive for the time. So, what happened in the following six years to turn it all around?
Well, there was a bit of a mistake in that first constitution, they corrected without doubt the second time. There was nothing that prevented laws to be passed that would allow the constitution to be ignored. So it was never officially dissolved, the (you know who) just wrote laws to make ignoring it allowed. The second time the wording states human rights can never be abolished by any future act of legislation.
In 1930, Jazz performance was banned and so was modern art. Three years after unemployment was introduced. Three years before the 'republic' was no longer the government.
Art, Music, and Culture are both an indicator of the level of sophistication of a society; and a warning sign that when such are censored, other rights are likely to follow.
Let's look at the US Constitution. The BIll of Rights was added as an afterthought, the Constitution was ratified by all parties and I'll quote
"The Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added:" the Bill of Rights, Amendments I-X, an afterthought luckily we followed through and passed.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or or the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
That's powerful. The final check on government is the citizens watching for slips, expressing their observations, using the press to carry this information to everyone and organize and assemble to have the matter redressed. Toss the freedom of expression, speech, and the press - this becomes a lot more difficult to accomplish.
Art, Music, and Culture.
Some people seem to be to eager to ask the question: will Obama be assasinated before the end of his governorship, why is that? Who should do this, and why is there really a reasonable reason killing a good and honorable man....tell me what you think.
Beside this take a look on this piece of art that made me think about it, also in my profile pic

Last night an exhibit opened in Charleston at the Plum Elements gallery on lower King Street featuring art inspired by the first 100 days of the Obama Presidency. The dozen works displayed in the intimate, bright white space address the hope and change of the first 100 days in a variety of ways, from photo realistic paintings of the swearing in to ceramic pitchers symbolizing the old and new administrations. Last night’s opening was attended by about 75 people and the exhibit remains open until mid May at the gallery just north of Queen Street, opposite the Charleston Library Society.
At the opening I met a group of Obama supporters distinctly different from those who work on state political issues. Many had a purely national focus on politics. I also learned that a party celebrating 100 days of Obama drew over 200 guests on Logan Street Wednesday evening.
I’ll have a video report on the opening posted over the weekend on Youtube and linked to my blog on Indigo Journal and my facebook and twitter feeds http://twitter.com/wjhamilton29464 , but you can go see the art now. See their website for full details on the gallery http://www.plumelements.com/ In addition to large art works, the gallery has a wonderful collection of decorative items and gifts. Consider supporting a local gallery not devoted to shrimp boats and beach scenes with a visit and a purchase if you can.

But I want to be sure that ALL REPRESENTING the "Barack Contingent" get their opportunity to show up for "The Event" being held on This Friday Night, April 17th, 5pm-7pm. Your attendance, while not "MANDITORY", Would say much about the quality of folks I hang with HERE! And I like to show off my Obama "peeps"!
Details as to how to sign up (and how to get here!) are in previous posts!
ADDITIONALLY I am including a link that takes you DIRECTLY to my CarePage blog. It is:
www.carepages.com/carepages/HealingThroughHumor you can also join THAT SITE, and I HOPE you do! I have learned to love the word, "HOPE"! It is hope that got us a President in which we can be proud! In him, and our own selves! I literally would not be alive today, were it not for that "HOPE"! I just tested the link...you'll have to cut and paste, as it doesn't seem to be directly linking. It IS CASE SENSITIVE, so bear that in mind!
Thank you for your support and all you do for you, our President and his wonderful family, and listening to me rant, often "on and on"!
That's all I have!
Steven =)
I'm just gonna be Too Damn Busy to be blogging, given what I told y'all in my last post! A post to which I hope you ALL RESPOND, YES it was, as I admitted, a shameless act of not only "SELF" promotion, but ALSO for the Hospice as well!
As stated, it needs to be made CLEAR that Hospices are NOT "where people go to die", but rather be nurtured into a state, such is my case, where one lives, thrives, and creates!
Again, sign up! Details on how to get here are in my previous post!
It is gonna be ALL ABOUT shameless SELF PROMOTION! I tell you this so that you may (if you want!) to deal yourself out, were we playin' "Five card Texas Hold 'em"! But we're not, so I hope you'll play along!
As many of you already know, I have an "EVENT" for which you can sign up (and I hope many more of you do; it is VERY EASY to do so; see "events" to the right? A quick search SHOULD yield a result that lists my shameless pluggery!
I am currently LIVING as opposed to the miscontsrued perception of what Hospices are really all about!
They are NOT a place where people "go to die. They are a place where one goes to live, thrive, and in my case, create some of the finest "Artwork" I've ever put out!!
We Obama people are something else! I have received a grand early response to my request of you to attend my "Art Show"..! I am SO looking forward to, not just the event, but meeting those of you who DO attend.
Again, the Date and time: Friday, April 17th, 5PM, Directions are on my previous post!...I think; I have short term memory loss from all the radiation this brain could possibly take. I will check, and if you see no new post, then it is there!
Turns out i DO have to edit this post to include what's going on with the "Art Show"! Details are as follows:
It's just a beginning. (see: I'm not a native English speaker!)
There are many ideas in my mind how to better up the world or the living conditions of people.
I do this from the point of view of an artist who has many interests: Philosophy, Dreams and
their interpretation, Awareness, The Mind etc.
What can one do to make the world a better place?
To sing in a choir, to play music, to paint and to analyse your innermost, e.g. by interpreting your
paintings etc.
There are so many ways, and it is a good way to be creative, to see things and daily life
again and again from another point of view.
Meditation is certainly another way to find out about yourself and the world. In this field I'm not
an expert, but I will try to better up my ability in this direction.
Nevertheless:
The intuition of artists often is similar to Meditation, because you gain informations
from within, from your innermost mind. And that we all do share.
So that's the beginning:
Good communication with people, with your innermost, with the different aspects of life.
To find the point, your way of living that is good for you and at the same time good for the
society. It has to do with finding out for what you are born.
I'm certainly born to help people and myself to find out more about the world.
Art is one important task for me on this way. Nevertheless:
Perhaps life will show me how I'm best used to fulfill the god-like plan we all living people
are a part of, all people of all religions, of all non-religions, all.
We people of the world are all equal and all free - that's the underlying philosophy.
We won't only survive, we well prevail.
--- And we have to take care, of ourselves, of our neighbour, of the whole living and not-living
world. --- And that's not easy at all --- But it's possible and as a vision it is seemingly so
simple and so great at the same time.
Part 1 of an article I wrote for jewishinstlouis.org
Every art student learns about the fair use principle, granting us permission to use any image in our artwork as long as we transform it so that it conveys new meaning. But beyond that all-encompassing definition, we don’t know what transgressions, if any, we are actually committing.
Recently in the news is the preemptive lawsuit artist Shepard Fairey filed against the Associated Press. According to Fairey the AP threatened to sue him unless he pays royalties for the image that he used as source material for his now famous campaign poster of Barack Obama. Fairey argues that he is protected by the fair use principle. He claims that his intention was not to reproduce any particular image, but instead was to capture a specific gaze representative of the ideas of hope and change.
In an interview on NPR, Fairey declared he was going forward with this suit on behalf of all artists, the thousands of artists that created their own campaign images in the same grassroots manner, pulling images from the web in support of the message of hope, change and a new administration in Washington.
screen shot of: first page of google image search results for "Barack Obama"
I am fascinated by Fairey’s implication that the process of appropriating and re-contextualizing Google image search results might be considered a grassroots action. As an artist, I frequently use images that that I find on Google. Like Fairey suggested, my motivation for using these images is to highlight the search itself, not the derivative image.
Perhaps then, these cyber Robin Hoodian actions—using and transforming Google image search results—are capable of changing the structures that control the dissemination of information. After all, the order that information appears in Google searches is determined by the amount of people searching any given topic. And as a result of the Fairey’s appropriation, his campaign poster may be forever linked to Obama’s presidency.
email from President Obama
Obama’s popularity can be credited to his skillfully constructed presidential campaign that effortlessly linked his name to hope. I was quick to jump onto Obama’s online campaign message of hope. Like many others, I subscribed to his twitter, facebook, and YouTube pages. I now get weekly emails from him and I even have a blog on his site…

There were an overwheliming amount of art educators in attendance at last nights meeting- it was fantastic! Everyone was so eager to meet each other, so ready so share ideas, challenges, insights. The meeting went on for an hour and a half but could have easily gone much longer if not for time constraints. We have made plans for collaborations and our next meeting will be in 6 weeks. The group wanted it sooner, but I thought it wise to wait just a little longer. WOW. It is souch a good feeling to know you are all out there- I've never done anything like this and all were so appreciative and excited. I feel really good knowing I am helping to build this comminuty of intelligent, inspiring people who feed and nurture the minds of children in such creative, compassionate ways.
The only thing I don't get- why was there so much food left over? :)
