The very concept doesn’t make a whole lot of sense at first, seeing as books don’t actually have visual scenes to make a trailer out of, but done properly, they can be pretty effective tools for creating buzz around a new novel. And sometimes, they can be pretty cool. The trailer for Stephen King’s new book, Under The Dome, falls squarely into the “cool” category. The novel follows the inhabitants of a small town that is trapped in a huge, clear dome by unknown forces.Some say King’s best years are behind him; I disagree. That’s not to say I enjoy every last one of his books – hell, the man’s written so many, there’s no way they could all be great. But when he’s on, he’s one of the best writers in modern horror (and sometimes science fiction). To me, it seems that he’s at his best when he gives himself room to breathe, page-wise. The Stand is brilliant; so is It. Both are over 1000 pages. The Dark Tower series, his masterpiece, unfolds over the course of seven increasingly long books. Under The Dome will be 1088 pages long; hopefully, that means we can expect the epic storytelling and surprisingly personal character development the author, at his best, is capable of.Check out the trailer below; it’s short, but it got me kinda pumped for this book.

Motherships of the Galactic confederation will hover as brilliant white clouds above the islands of light, where teleportation beams will descend and lift the volunteers into the motherships. Soon as we got a Democrat in the White House, a bunch of Senators claiming to be Democrats rushed to show how independent they are, declaring they won’t necessarily vote in support of the President’s agenda that he was elected to enact. As a Hoosier, I’ll put Indiana’s Evan Bayh (pronounced “Bye” or “Buy”) at the top of the list.
Mr. Obama is right to allow politicians to vote their “consciences” (oxymoron is obvious). Where he’s wrong is in promising to raise money for them. I won’t give one penny to support ANY Senator who fails to toe the line and earnestly help the President do what he promised. Many promises were made. If they’re not kept because Democrats in the Senate support powerful banks and other lobbies against the people who support Mr. Obama’s agenda, then Bayh-Bayh to them come the primary.
If self-described Democrats in the Senate refuse to push through the President’s agenda, then it’s up to us to FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL. I won’t give money to or raise money for Evan Bayh or Arlen Spector or any of the approximately eight others who have declared themselves “independent” of this cause.
They want our money and votes only to betray us to the powerful lobbyists who own them. We need to start work right now finding better people to run against them in the primaries and start raising the money they’ll need to win.
We kept McCain and Palin out of the White House. We certain can put Bayh, Specter and those other eight “independent” Democrats OUT of the Senate. CHANGE is coming to America.
For those that doubted the international prowess of the freshman Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama is proving to be a powerful negotiator during his initial overseas jaunt. Following his visit with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki Monday, a government spokesman openly admitted that the Iraqi government hopes to have U.S. troops out of the region by 2010. Such an aspirational timeline aligns Maliki squarely with Obama, and his steadfast 16-month-and-done agenda.
In essence, Obama is more than proving to American voters his foreign credentials to serve as commander in chief as he continues his ongoing visit of the Middle East and Europe. And, although a recent Washington Post/ABC news poll gave John McCain a slight edge with voters in that area, who said they trusted the Republican presumptive more in handling our war efforts, Obama is surging forward. In fact, the gap on voters’ foreign policy concerns is closing, 47 percent of respondents now say they would trust McCain to lead; while 45 percent chose Obama.
Meanwhile back home, McCain and his supporters continue to attack Obama for having relatively little foreign policy experience, relentlessly sighting the fact that this is the democratic nominee’s first trip overseas since beginning his campaign. At the same time, McCain enjoyed a Yankees game with supporter (and former rival candidate) and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani over the weekend. Though Giuliani has begrudgingly credited Obama with running a top-tier campaign, he’s quick in expressing his doubts concerning his overall experience. “I think the fact that Barack Obama is kind of making his first tour, in essence, of the world, gives you an indication that John McCain is the man with the experience. John doesn’t have to go for the first or second time to these places. He’s been going for 20, 30 years. He knows the world,” the former Mayor said.
In that game, the Yankees beat the Oakland A’s 4-3 in 12 innings. That game was won in extra innings. And clearly this one ain’t over either. Seems Obama’s got a few more pitches to make.
