Mesquite, Nevada- Six term Congressman Adam Smith(D-WA) held a discussion today over lunch with local Obama supporters and undecided voters. Their dialogue centered around the importance of the Nevada caucus and the reasons why Barack is the best candidate to unite the country and inject a breath of fresh air back into the executive branch and American democracy.
More than a dozen undecided caucus goers, including some ex-Republicans, joined us at the Los Lupes Resturant in Mesquite and were delighted to hear about Barack’s experience as a constitutional law professor and his work organizing with faith based groups as a young man. Representative Smith, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and Foreign Affairs committees and is chairman of the anti-terrorism subcommittee, also helped to reinforce Barack’s good judgment on foreign policy and his commitment to finishing the work in Afghanistan. He stressed that we need to be as careful getting us out of Iraq as we were careless getting in.
Representative Smith also highlighted that Barack will be a president who listens to a diverse array of perspectives and can create a dialogue that will move us beyond the partisan bickering in Washington and allow us to tackle the countless problems we face as a nation. Smith made a clear and convincing case that Barack is the only candidate who can bring real change to Washington and he explained how Barack's good judgment will lead us in a new direction.
Listen to what Congressman Smith had to say:
Congressman Smith is a vocal advocate for open government, dialogue and discussion. He believes that politics should be a dialogue, and that rings true with those of us looking for a new direction in American politics. The Obama campaign’s grassroots strength is a testament to these democratic ideals, and puts them to use every day to reach out to undecided voters, engage them in the democratic process, and ensure that any and all of their questions are answered honestly.
Congressman Smith said it best. “The strength of a Representational Democracy lies in listening and reacting to the voices of the people.”
