Hey fellow Obama bloggers!
I am a 17 year old student and avid supporter of Barack Obama!
I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell everyone that I am glad that this campaign for the nomination has been so close and hard-fought. Here’s why… All of us are forced to fight for Barack. I think that this close campaign has brought all of us closer together and strengthened us as individuals. I know that no matter what happens in November, there will be millions more educated, aware citizens of the blessed United States of America. I think that this close campaign has strengthened us in our values and our beliefs and make what we are on the verge of accomplishing that much more significant.
For these reasons, I will say right now that I HOPE that John McCain does not make any silly mistake or gaffe that causes everybody to immediately jump ship to Obama. I want people to see Barack’s message and the true content of his character. If Obama wins the election easily, there is a greater likelihood the American public will go back to the same old same old next year. Barack can’t propose legislation or write a speech that will change this country! It will come from the people! That’s why I think this close election is really such a gift because people that are switching to Barack are not doing it because the other candidate is ridiculous or unworthy (well we won’t get into personal opinions) but because they believe in his message! I want every single person voting for Barack Obama to believe. I want every single person voting for Barack Obama to become a strong individual in society so that we can all live in a better world in 2009. That’s why I’m grateful for this close race. That’s why I’m thankful for Barack.
Never forget: Yes WE Can!
Zach

Nice perspective. I am rather old and weary. Senator Obama said something a while ago (and probably still repeats in speeches here and there) that we have been "fighting" the same "battles" for 40 years and not resolving issues.
That is how it feels to me, and that is not his exact words, but close to it. I am stuck on that number 40, because that is when both Dr. King and RFK were murdered.
Listening to people go on and on about Senator Obama's skin color and "the black vote" and "the white blue collar workers" it seems to me, we have not progressed in those 40 years.
I can not say when we had the first "gas crisis". I only vaguely recall long lines at the gas pumps and the problem being solved with lowering the speed limit to 55mph. People stopped buying "gas guzzlers".
Oil in my town will probably be gone within 10 years and that was the best they could do to prevent where we are now? Other countries are more progressive or aggressive in implementing changes to lessen the use of oil~to harness solar and wind as energy sources.
Many groups and citizens have been preaching about the ecology and doing things on an individual level. One of the reasons I voted for Obama is because he offers viable solutions to fixing that. He thinks future impact~which is important for your age group as well as my grandchildren.
I am glad to see people like you willing to do that hard work or fighting, because I am truly tired of it. I believe "the youth vote" is what will carry Obama to a win and that elected officials are starting to understand, that you "guys" are the upcoming voters...
...so it is not going to be status quo any longer if they want to keep their jobs.
Thank you.

Hello Zach! (I repeat what I sent you!)
I just needed to BO-Friend you because I truly liked your blog and thought it most insightful, thoughtful and succinct!
You are the ones we have been waiting for! And that is why I believe we need Barack as POTUS, to inspire and bring on board the much needed youth such as yourself. We need your engagement, to get your feet wet and help take on the civic repsonsibilities to secure your/our future for a better place in the world.
We need your leadership--and I dare say Zach it appears as if you just may be one of those young adults that will prove to be a leader in your own right! Just thrilled to have found your blog. Most impressive! Please continue to express yourself in these blogs.
Besitos y Paz

You show great insight, Zach. I really appreciate you sharing that perspective with us. I'll be sure to remember it.
Are you graduating this year? I hope you got into a good college.

I have 15 days of high school left. I will be going to the University of Texas in Austin in the fall where I will be at home with my fellow Barack supporters who plan on working to turn Texas blue!

Yes Zach, it's the youth that will turn this country around. You are 17 years old. I wish I was young at this time in history, but I can relax now. I was worried about our future. The youth had nothing to build on. We, the older generation, are depending on you to make this world a better place for all future generation. It is 12:19am mountain time and I sit here still with tears of joy in my eyes. No matter what route this journey takes, please continue this movement, your future depend on it. I admire the youth of today. WE failed you. As your elder, we were suppose to lay a path for our kids, but our kids have outgrown us. They've outgrown the ignorance of the pass and I'm confident you guys, the younger generation will push this forward for a new world that cares about it's future. I really would appreciate it if you would allow me to apologize to you and all the youth in America. I am sorry for the mess we have allowed our country to fall into. We are the generation that was once awake and went to sleep. Never, ever, take our eyes off the prize. Keep our government on the right path by voting. Yes, your participation is very important. Remember, keep your eyes open and focus on unity, justice, sacrifice, and strength. You will be the ones to carry out Mr. Obama's dreams, our dreams. He can't do this in 4 or 8 years, but he can and will lay a solid foundation for you "the youth" to build on. Please whatever happens, keep this dream alive. It's a matter of survival. Your lives depend on it. As you've guessed, I'm of the older generation. I'd given up hope. Never ever do this. You see now..ONE person..can make a difference. My love and respect goes out to the youth in America and I will make sure I make it known to all I know, that this would not have been possible without the youth in American. I THANK YOU! Please pass this on. Please send my message to all the youth responsible for this great victory! I proud of you & proud to be an American. This election has meant so much to me. Now, I can leave this earth in peace. It happened in my lifetime. There's hope.
