This morning in Watertown, South Dakota, Barack hosted a town hall forum with a packed crowd and discussed his plan to provide real leadership to rural communities. As a Senator from a rural, Midwestern state, Barack has worked to ensure rural America’s prosperity and vitality, and he will continue to do so as our next president.
The town hall meeting this morning was another opportunity where Barack was able to speak face to face with farmers and ranchers to make sure that his policy proposals meshed with the problems rural communities face every day.
In a conference call on Monday, “Dallas Tonsager and Dennis Wiese, both former presidents of the South Dakota Farmers Union, said Obama was the best choice for South Dakota farmers and ranchers. Wiese said he was impressed that Obama based his rural agenda on personal meetings with farmers and ranchers, rather than Washington lobbyists.”
Barack has been reaching out for years to listen and respond to rural communities needs. As president he will:

F ired Up! ★ ★ Ready to Go!!
The Field is pleased to announce that our “tough love” program for the Chicken Littles among Obama supporters can now hand out virtual diplomas to so many graduates. Some may still have to enroll in our summer school program as the general election campaign - and a new set of challenges - gears up, and they’ll have some new classmates from the ranks of Clinton supporters, for whom the challenges are steeper because, well, that sky has fallen. It is therefore my great honor to introduce The Field’s No Chicken Little Left Behind program, employing the same “tough love” techniques that turned so many worrywart Obama supporters into confident warriors, workers, commentators and Field Hands for their cause. Enrollment is now opened to Clinton supporters – tuition-free scholarships! – who are coming to grips with the reality that Obama will be the Democratic nominee for president. Understandably, many feel a deep disappointment that their candidate did not win, and some have not yet come to terms with that reality. But most have begun to grapple with it and pass through the grievous stages of denial, anger, bargaining, depression and, finally, acceptance. (And as I mentioned last week, Obama supporters are also going through those stages, which affect the winning side, too.) Be not afraid: Nobody is going to be punished for backing the second-place finisher. Your doctor feels your pain: My choices have lost more often than not over the years - I’ve got scar tissue atop scar tissue to prove it - and I’ve looked at previous Junes and Julys with the same dread and despair that is evident from your voices today. Do not doubt for one moment that there is a place for you here, fighting side by side with your newest of bestest of friends, the Field Hands, in a manner consistent with your values and passions. But just like the Obama supporters that today can give testimony to how they evolved from being “Chicken Littles,” always panicking and seeing doom and gloom behind every corner, and are happier today for evolving beyond that stance toward life and politics, you’re going to have to go through the same boot camp if you want to share this foxhole.
