Just wanted to express my approval of Barack's stepping up and calling for an end to the language that has plagued this 4th quarter of campaigning. Of course, Hillary followed (as usual) with a statement expressing the same sentiments.

This article is so impressive! A true leader in action. He has a way of purging the weirdness out of all of the situations he's faced so far, and transforming the energy into something with incredibly positive power. He does it on a personal level with those he speaks to, and he can obviously do it on the political level, with national impact.

I am quite saddened by all what happened to Obama. Is the media blind? they keep saying that both camps are at war with each other but I don't know what they are seeing but I am only seeing one camp repeatedly putting their foot in their mouth and blaming the other camp for it.

The cold hard truth is that on the night of the New Hampshire primary, all the scientifically conducted exit polls had predicted an Obama two-digit win. Given the +/-4.5% margin of error, this means it wasn't a question of whether Barack would win, only by how much. However, everybody forgot that Diebold would be counting the votes electronically in 81% of the state's precincts, while the other 19% were being tallied by hand.

And wouldn't you know, when the results were announced, there was a statistically significant difference between the tallies based on a paper trail and those recorded by Diebold's machines? As reported by a watchdog organization called CheckTheVotes.com (see below), Obama garnered 38% of the votes counted by hand, followed by Clinton with 34%, Edwards with 17% Richardson with 5% and Kucinich with almost 2%. By contrast, Diebold's tabulations had Clinton finishing first with a whopping 40%, while every other candidate had lower percentages than in the hand-counted districts. The computers had Obama dropping to 35%, Edwards to 16%, Richardson to 4% and Kucinich to 1%.

Does it seem suspicious to you that all the candidates but Clinton did worse, when the votes weren't verified, especially in the wake of the precedent of the prior Diebold debacles? Unless widespread outcry is raised, and steps are taken immediately to monitor the electronic tallies in the upcoming primaries, it is readily apparent that the only Democratic machine Hillary will need to prevail is the one programmed by Diebold.

Join hands in this and lets shine more light to it before it gets too late.

Can you cite the Exit polls you are referring to and who did them.

From the few exit polls I heard, Obama was ahead by 5-7% in the first exit polls out around 8PM, but behind in the later exit polls out around 9:15.

Another words the Exit polls themselves were inconsistent, but I haven't seen anyone do a study of the exit polls and why the later ones favored Hillary? Her stongest supporters (seniors and single women, should have voted earlier in the day and would have registered in the earlier exit polls.)

Isn't the manual counting supposed to start on Wednesday??

I do believe that it's possible that the results in NH are not correct due to unintentional/intentional issues with the voting machines...BUT I don't think that Obama had a double-digit lead in any of the exit polls. I believe that they had him up by only a couple of points. The polls where he was up by double digits were the pre-election polls, before Clinton's emotional incident, not to mention, before both Clinton's hurled a lot of mud at Obama.

He's contemplating the idea of endorsing Obama. Well now the race war is to a pause, I don't know if he will decide to stay out.

I know it will be great for him to endorse Obama, but with him being neutral and threatening to the Clintons with an Obama endorsement. The Clintons may find themselves hesitating to more negative attacks. So with him being neutral can actually work in our favor.

To summarize what i said, if Clyburne endorses Obama, that means more or less the black community has given up on Clintons, and it may tempt them to be more desperate. It is not good for both campaigns and the dem party may implode to let the Rep win again.

For awhile he said he might break from his neutral stance and endorse Barack, because he was upset with comments from the clinton campaign.

But today he said he will not endorse, so I think our time may be better spent elsewhere.

He did say in an interview that both Clintons are remorseful and that Barack wants to get beyond this. And he said Barack is ready to be president, and has enough experience. I think that's as good as it gets.

The fact is spending $400 on a haircut when at at ritzy spa on Park Ave. in Manhattan you can get one with a shave for $50 is over the top.

As a man I find it despicable that he would waste campaign funds coming from hard working families across the country when he could have donated a large portion of that money to help the poor.

That's fine. I'm here to stay regardless...but any other Edward's supporters who were checking out Senator Obama....would likely bolt right back to his camp after seeing your posts.

That is a pretty huge assumption and while I think there are a few Barack supporters on these boards who might agree with you I am personally not certain of that.

I would also like to add that there are a great many other people who let me down in their support of the Iraq war (i.e. Biden, Dodd, Kerry, Colin Powell)...Not just JE.

I am particularly harsh with John Edwards because he was also a co-sponsor of the Iraq war and due to his continuing to run for the presidency (despite his terrible track record in the senate).

I appreciate and respect your current support of Sen. Obama in any case and wish you well.

You are right, iam tired of attacks on either of these candidates, let us go to the issues and start debating a health debate, NO more who said what or did what because the real issues get lost in this.I think this will work in our favor,i dont think anyone wants mandatory healthcare, i think people want affordable healthcare,let us debate on that.i think people want a leader who seems to have a clear stance on Iraqi and dealing with advesaries, other candidates want preconditions,let us debate that.i also heard two new different economic plans proposed by Clinton and Obama, let us scrutinise them and let us have a debate.If it is about issues, we are going to win!

Matthew, with all due respect, as a former Edward's supporter I don't think your post helps switch the minds of people who are considering voting for him. It's a barrage of points and criticisms that overall say.... in effect....that people are foolish for even thinking about it.

I'm proud to have supported Edwards for so long, but switched because Senator Obama has a much greater chance of winning and ending the Bush/Clinton dynasty and also because he is a truly inspirational leader who can unite the country.

Give the Edward's leaners and supporters some respect....and gently pull them over. It's more persuasive....believe me.

You both need to speak to some people in North Carolina about Mr. Edwards. You both may come away with some different conclusions. I use to support John for Vice President for a number of reasons. But that was a different time. Matthew you are well respected here because of your research, dig deeper. I would also give Greg the same advice.

Its much more powerful to state why you support some one than why you oppose their opponent.

We cannot possibly take Al Sharpton seriously. He has so may political ties already, I am not sure one can trust that he can be unbiased. Like a true leader, he squashed to potential divisive commentary on race.

When I lived in NY, I marched with Sharpton. If I ever get beaten by cops because of my race, or any other injustice, I have to admit, he is a good person to be on your side. I don't mind if he sits this one out. Reverend Al has a way of ticking people off - both black and white..and in the theme of Senator Obama's campaig - appeal to red and blue states, republicans, DEMS and Independents, Black White Asian Latino Native American Indian - Reverend Al can sit this one out. A Sharpton endorsement can both be positive and negative, so it's best he just stays neutral.

Attention Everybody! The enemy is the NEWS MEDIA! They are driving the race issue. I wish there could be a flood of emails to CNN, MSNBC and FOX that let's them know we know what they are doing. There needs to be a public outcry at the shameful race baiting and taunting that is sponsored by these pundits who are blaming the candidates for what THEY stirred up while looking to keep their own names in the news at the expense of the Democrats. Hillary Clinton won the top spot on the ballot in NY....with Senator Obama being placed near the bottom after candidates who have withdrawn.

Ballot placement is important because research shows being placed at the top is worth anywhere from 1-3% points.

In NH....Clinton was placed above Senator Obama on all ballots in the state....which probably contributed to her narrow win.

Some states randomize the order....to make it fair.

I don't mean to be negative here.....just hoping and praying for fairness in this election process.

I have no doubt that Barack will win Nevada and South Carolina and by that time the momentum will be so great that Hillary will be so confused that she will not be able to figure out what had just hit her. But my concern is about the super delegates. I don't quite understand the roll they play in deciding who gets the nomination. Are they only relevant if there is a brokered convention? Can someone explain how the superdelegates will affect the nomination.

superdelegates are memebers of the Democratic party (senators, governors, DNC members, etc..) who get a vote at the national convention. Their vote counts just like a delegate from a state. However, these delegates choose candidates based on personal preference...

Before the IA caucus someone posted something that could be used as a handout to persuade people to select Obama as their 2nd choice. My mom used it at their caucus and found it to be effective. I can't remember which blog it was on. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Could it be posted again so it could be used in upcoming caucuses? Michigan is tomorrow.
It is an Open Primary.

My feelings are that Democrats could stop McCain with just a few percent extra support for Romney.

McCain could really hurt Barack later on in Open States. We can stop his momentum. Huckabee might win SC and Florida would be up in the air. On the other hand, if he McCain wins MI, it may be clear sailing for McCain and maybe Independents can vote for Barack later on.

Its a hard decision since we want to reduce Hillary's support as they could become Obama delegates in the late Spring.

Unfortunately, Barack can't tell Democrats to vote Republican, so I don't think there is anyway to get the message out.

Thoughts?

One thing I know is that McCain would defeat Hillary in a General Election.

That poll (45(HRC)-18(BO)-14(JE)) is an old one (12/1-6/07) from ARG.

There is only one poll for Nevada that has come out since early December. It came out today from Research 2000 (1/11-13/08) and shows Barack with two points over HRC and five over Edwards (32(BO)-30(HRC)-27(JE)).

Keep in mind that most pollsters are staying away from Nevada since they think it will be hard to poll accurately. As I understand it, this is mainly because of low voter turnout in past Nevada caucuses. Link:

That poll was taken in beginning of December. Research 2000 poll from 1/11 to 1/13 has:

Obama 32%
Clinton 30%
Edwards 27%

Either way, we should not bother with the polls, because we saw how much that mattered in NH.

I completely AGREE! I'm an advocate of a variety of public transportation systems similar to that of Europe. We can see today that our airports are too clogged up. Planes are almost crashing into each other, similar to the Experience Sen. Obama had not too long ago on the runway. I think high speed rail will be a great project much like a "New Deal" type of project that would not only stimulate the economy, but improve our infrastructure.

I think we need to start hitting back on the Clintons. Senator Obama has proven to be a good counter puncher when attacks are aimed at him, however Hillary has been getting away with to much for to long. The Clintons are the democrat's version of the Bush family. Democrats have long stood with them because they were able to beat the republicans at their game of smear and dirty politics. Senator Obama needs to link the Clinton and Bush organizations together to show that this is a change that he is ready to stand against. Senator Obama needs to attack her experience and campaign on the fact that he has held an elected position for a longer period of time than either Hillary or John Edwards. Her experience is only greater in being involved in campaigning like a Bush/Clinton. When she attacks him for voting NOT PRESENT, he needs to remind her that HE was the only one in ELECTED office at the time. She is bringing up race to try and divide african-american voters and gain support of white voters. He needs to make it clear that he has not raised the race issue and wants everyone's vote based on his character not his skin color. She is trying to paint him into a corner by playing Bush/Clinton politics. When she says that he is pushing the story. He needs to point out that the "fairytale" comment, was not racist(EVEN THOUGH IT WAS) but it was a false attack that missed the mark. Finally, and this will be difficult, Obama must point out the weaknesses and mistakes of the Bill Clinton presidency. The diviseness, lack of attention on bin ladden, weakness of our military, the corruption. He has to do this while sticking to the issues and not getting personal

Is anyone else concerned about the Teachers Union suing to stop the Culinary Workers (60,000 votes, + another 17,500 that endorse Obama) from taking part in the Nevada Caucus? Even though they agreed to the locations back in May of '07, they decide to file a lawsuit 2 days after the Culinary Workers endorsed Obama?

This is extremely important, and may mean the difference in Obama winning or losing Nevada.

Please write the Nevada Democratic Party to stop this insane lawsuit (remember, be polite, but tell them how important it is that democracy be upheld in the caucus):

As teachers in Nevada, and members of the Nevada State Education Association, we are deeply dismayed that our union is trying to stop our students’ parents from caucusing on Saturday. We urge them in the strongest terms to drop this lawsuit immediately.

Many of our students are Hispanic Americans and come from low-income families. Their parents are construction workers, McDonald’s employees, and other shift workers on the strip, who work around the clock, and won’t have time to travel to their caucus locations on Saturday. That’s why the state Democratic committee set up nine at-large precinct locations on the strip – to provide nearby caucus locations for Nevadans who otherwise wouldn’t be able to caucus.

These at-large locations were approved back in March of 2007, and no one raised any concerns about them for nearly a year. But now, our union is filing a lawsuit making the baseless charge that these at-large caucus locations are discriminatory, when the fact is they were set up to make sure as many Nevadans could caucus as possible.

This lawsuit is all about politics. It’s widely known that many of our union’s top officials support Senator Clinton and now that the Culinary Workers Union has endorsed Senator Obama, they’re using our union to stop Nevadans from caucusing for Senator Obama.

Tomorrow's debate is extremely important as is a win in Nevada.

We got a hint of what to expect on MTP on Sunday.
I hope Barack is ready with some sharp and memorable replies - like The Clintons are trying to rewrite History.

Thoughts on what will come of the lawsuit in Nevada? Who has to rule and when? If no one rules, then does everything proceed as planned?

No news about when a court will hear it, if at all - but there's always that chance. As for the good news, The Nevada Democratic Party has dismissed the lawsuit, saying "the time for complaints has passed," so that's a VERY good sign. If it goes to court, that's another matter. But the timing of the suit and the fact that they knew about this half a year ago - I doubt it will be taken seriously. Fingers crossed...

...about where folks like Sharpton stand. He has remained neutral. It is doubtful that he is in the Clinton's corner, as someone alluded above. If Obama is nonminated, Sharpton will support Obama. His being neutral may be on purpose as he does not want to influence or hurt Obama's campaign. Sharpton is nobody's fool!

Jesse Jackson Sr. is a stauch Obama supporter as is Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. I've heard that Jesse Jr. is a top advisor in Obama's campaign.

Oddly, I heard that Jesse's wife supports Hilliary.

I truely think folks don't get people like Sharpton and Jesse (and Sharpton in particular). I think they've always viewed their role as 'change agents' outside the system as well as within the Democratic Party. Love em' or hate em--they have resulted in getting black folks out to the polls in record numbers. Jesse in particular help add some 2 million or so to the voter rolls when he ran in 88'

So while some of you may dislike them, they have had very positive influence on many things!

As Jesse says, 'Let us disagree without being disagreeable."

I'm just copying this post from a cnn political ticker. It's a good story worth sharing...

THE BAM...!

Having caught "Obama fever" like so many others rallying in support of Barack, I experienced something yesterday at the Barack Obama Rally at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina which I felt was both spontaneous and inspirational.

As Barack worked the line following the close of his speech yesterday, there was a surge of people moving forward hoping to get close enough to shake Barack's hand. Since I was standing about 20 feet back from center stage in the crowd, I felt the crowd down front tighten as many of us stood on our toes, stretched our bodies forward while reaching out to Barack. I noticed that a six foot tall guy who was standing in front of me had stretched far enough above the crowd and shook hands with Barack. As the guy drew back his hand back I asked him, "You shook his hand didn't you?" Happily the guy said "Yes." I then said, "give me some of that" and the guy shook my hand with the same hand he had just clasped with Barack's. A woman friend of mine who was standing next to me saw me shake hands with the guy. I turned to her and said "He [the guy] just shook hands with Barack," to which she responded..."Hey, give it up." We then shook hands. She then turned to the person next to her and shook hands. This went on for at least five or six people.

I did not know the tall guy in front of me; he is white, I am black. But at the moment we shook hands, I felt some solidarity with this stranger, consummated by a handshake and signifying some unspoken agreement presumably about Barack Obama and Barack's core message of UNITY!

I call this hand-shake scenario The "BAM" because, descriptively, it takes a bit of Obama's name and it's the sound of a collision (in a positive sense).

THE BAM, pass it on at the next Barack Rally!

January 27th...in different cities across the country. We each step out for 2 hours at an alloted time and walk.
It should be the day after SC.
We want to get as many people in as many cities to do it.
We dont wanna leave your respective stations for more than a couple of hours.
Just to show the strength and power of the people and movement.
What say you?
Continue this dialogue tomorrow...and area coordinators think about it

Today, i mailed in my absentee ballot and voted for Barack Obama!

Obama is such an inspiration, a breath of fresh air. He has inspired me to go back to school and better myself.

I mailed in my ballot to SC..where I live but i will be away on primary day.

I also sent two emails to Jim Clyburn, who is the only black leader i still respect.

Rev. Al Sharpton-who defended Robert Johnsons and Bills & HRC comments as "legitmate" has lost my support forever regardless of the outcome of the race.

Robert Johnson has lost my support. I will never watch BET again..maybe on youtube...but thats it. I'm calling my cable company tommorow.

Rep Charles Rangel...will lose every black support i can find in NY. Because I will e-mail every one of my friends in NY about his words and this will not be forgotten.

Rep. J. Lewis,,for his backing of HRC and her comments and critic of Obama. He no loonger has my support.

And frankly all of these Clinton loyalist AA politicians have lost my support.

Its okay for the HRC campaign to draw differences on policies but they made it "personal" on more than one occassion and their supporters have been equally depressing.

Im so glad Barack took the "high road". Its time for the "Moses" generation of AA leaders shut up and turn the power over to the "Joshua" generation like:

Rep. Harold Ford
The AA Mayor of Newark
Rep. Rick Wade in SC
and many other AA young leaders of America.

MLK was the new generation of his day..Barack is ours!

I need to know that Barack is hearing some of the messages in the Jan 13 Associated Press article ("Can-Do Spirit"). We need this man in the White House, but I'm afraid we're starting to lose him to Hillary on the specifics. Yes he is inspiring and saying all the things we want to hear. But he needs to go the next step and tell us HOW, in concrete, believable terms (not instead of, but in addition to his inspiring messages). People need confidence in his abilities to follow through with smart, doable policies, in order to counter Hillary's charges that he's all nice words with no content. People are starting to listen to her. That worries me because, though I like her fine and always thought I'd support her, but I'm afraid our country would become more divided under her, and I'm afraid that in a final election the prospect of a third Clinton term would rile up the republicans enough to defeat her, and we'd lose our chance at a democrat.

Is he getting this message? Please, Barack, I know you can do this. Show everyone you can also be very real and specific.

The first way that Barack has shown us that he is going to do things is by reaching out and touching us through his inspiring words. He says that he needs our support, our belief in change, our belief in our own power as individuals, and as a community across this nation, in order to elicit the movement of energy that will manifest in multiple and far-reaching change. Right up there at the top of this page on the website he says, "I'm asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington...I'm asking you to believe in yours." He doesn't want us to become followers of him. He wants us to become leaders. He is showing us what a true leader does...empower others so they can spread the leadership all over the place. Like that story ...if you give a man a fish, it will feed him for a day. If you TEACH a man to fish, he can feed his whole community. FIRED UP! READY TO GO! YES WE CAN! :-)

Bob Johnson is a joke, only himself think he's a black leader. He maybe able to crack a few jokes to make the audience laugh. But that comment on "Something in the neighborhood" was offensive and uncalled for. I'm not even criticizing the Hilly Camp for this. Bob Johnson is an insensitive rich jackass who made money off sexually exploiting young black women in videos. His "who's comming to dinner" reference is even worse, I think James Clyburn will love to hear this. Or maybe he will ignore him, becoz in the end guys.. Bob Johnson is a big joke

You are 100% correct. In fact, I would say he should be glad they are attacking him. Shows that he didn't kiss their butts. It brings swing voters, white voters and independents to Obama. They are trying to get him mad, but he's to smart for that. The young educated female, AA, White, Hispanic and Asian all support Obama.

I can state that as a college educated black man, Obama makes me proud. People like Lewis, Rangel and Johnson make me ill.

Hi Team,
We have got to stop sending wrong messages. You cannot speak negatively of Al Sharton and Jesse Jackson or the Opponent/Candidate.

This type of talk is of no value. Our Senator has always taken the high road, now we need to do likewise.

Every negative message about Al and Jesse can lose votes for the Senator. Remember - we don't have to like all of the same people, we just have to support the Senator. If what we do creates a problem for him, then we are not supporting his campaign.
