If McCain wins this election we will have seen our shadow and have four, eight, maybe twelve more years of winter where fear instead of hope, where image instead of substance dominates our political discourse—if you can call it that after what is happening. When lies work, we are in for trouble. Not only do we elect a president who has no integrity, but we will insulate ourselves from the global realities that are changing the world by worrying about our guns and abortion and our small town values. The powers of darkness will be empowered if McCain wins because in politics you do what works if power is your only goal. If winning is everything, then everything is OK.
Obama appeals to our higher nature and this election is a test to see if we can respond to our higher nature. Or have we been consumerized by media advertizing for so many decandes now that our discrimitation is functionally dead? Can we see behind the image? Can we see what the ad is trying to sell? Can we figues our when we are being manipulated? If not, then we are surely dead, just clones, just consumer robots running to the latest special to buy what we don't need because we've been frightened into not having it. The American dream will be just that, a dream.
While issues are important, but what this election really comes down to is our national future, and without being awake and aware we have no future; we only have more of the past. As China grows to super power status, and Russia gets pissed at our manipulation diplomacy, and terrorist lurk in the shadows of our collective mind, and we are addicted to foreign oil and foreign banks own our assets we worry about gun laws and reproduction. This is a collective neurosis.
But these are just code words for control. We are afraid of the changing world and that fear makes us susceptable to propaganda that uses symbols of control. This is a false control that leaves us only imagining that we have control of our destiny. The more our fear is stoked, the more easily we are herded into the slaughter house of our reason.
This is not only a time to vote; this is a time to wake up.
