Dear Presidential Candidate Barack Obama Supporters! The American dream must never come at the expense of the American family. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama www.barackobama.com understands and as our next American President will safeguard this precious fabric of our great nation. But even as politicians in Washington talk about family values, we haven’t had policies that value families. Instead, it’s harder for working parents to make a living and to raise their kids. And the system is especially stacked against women. That’s why today, at a roundtable in California , he’s discussing his plan to give working women the support they need. As the son of a single mother, Presidential Candidate Barack Obama doesn’t accept an America that forces women to choose between their kids and their careers. To give parents a hand, he’ll double funding for afterschool programs. And to help put our kids on a pathway to success, he’ll launch a Children’s First Agenda to provide quality early childhood education for every American child. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama also believes we need real change to reform our leave policies so that folks aren’t left behind. He’ll expand the Family and Medical Leave Act to cover millions of additional Americans. To keep pace with the needs of Americans who are juggling work with family, we need to make sure you can take leave to care for elderly parents, and to join school activities with your kids. And to extend a hand to women who need it most, we need to cover employees who are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, so they can take the time they need. As President, he will also expand paid leave. To make sure our system is fair, he will press states to adopt paid-leave systems, and set aside $1.5 billion to fund the start-up costs and help states’ offset the costs to employers. And he’ll require employers to provide all of their workers with seven paid sick days a year, because you shouldn’t be punished for being sick. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama also believes that if we’re serious about helping working families, we need to push back against the special interests, and put a tax cut in the pockets of middle class Americans. That’s why he’s proposed a “Making Work Pay” tax credit of up to $500 for American workers, and $1,000 for working families. This will cut taxes for 150 million Americans, give our economy a boost, and put fairness back into our tax code.

Together, we the people see a tidal wave of positive press coverage for Presidential Candidate Barack Obama…the historic possibility of the first black president…the derailing of the Clinton inevitability train…Presidential Candidate Barack Obama`s phenomenal ability to bring new people into the Democratic fold…the huge national momentum. It is remarkable to think that someone who addressed the 2004 Democratic convention as a state senator is now likely to be doing so as the party’s presidential nominee in 2008 www.barackobama.com .
