Social networking is great.
This is particularly true during election years. While the folks in charge of the More Peace Corps campaign would remain strictly apolitical, I am not burdened by that regulation. So I am writing today to urge you to write to Barack and your local congressional delegate. Urge additional funding and support for Peace Corps to be able to double the number of Peace Corps Volunteers to 16,000 by 2011. In order to reach the full doubling by FY11, Peace Corps will need to become bigger, bolder and more dynamic in its programming for volunteers. It will require additional funds in both 2009 and 2010 to get that programming underway. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, especially if you have entrepreneurial and business skills, call Peace Corps to ask for a recruiter to schedule a visit to your area. Find out about the work of Peace Corps Volunteers in a wide variety of projects in secondary schools, technical institutes, universities, NGO and business centers in the developing world. Start making links that you will be able to take with you to foster partnership that will strengthen economic development in this global village we live in. The sample letter below is to aid you. Only copy this letter if you don’t have the time to write a unique one. Personalized letters are more effective! If you only have time to write one letter, please write to your congressperson (available on your state page).Honorable Joseph Courtney (D-2nd)

Dear Senator Courtney,
I urge you to support efforts to double the budget and number of volunteers in the Peace Corps by 2011, the Peace Corps’ 50th anniversary.
I believe the Peace Corps represent the very best of America’s values, promoting the spirit of volunteerism, conveying cooperative engagement with other nations and working together to address key concerns that advance global development. Expanding opportunities to serve our nation by serving others in need is an important element of a comprehensive foreign policy that will go a long way to restore the way in which citizens and governments around the world respond to the U.S. as a global leader and trusted partner.
I thank you very much for taking time to read this letter, and would be honored to receive a response indicating your support for doubling the size and budget of the Peace Corps.
Sincerely,
Your Name
Your Address
Peace Corps Service (if applicable)
