Hello friends,

I am just going to let you how my first time as an event's Host went. To tel you the truth it was not like I expected it to be, but I learned from it, and next time I will be more prepared. We went to a K-Mart store located in Bellflower on Rosescrans and McNab , CA and we could not hand out pledges because for them to let us do so, we have to contact their headquaters, and since it was week-end headquaters was close. Also I expected 8 people who sign up for the event, , and only 6 peoples showed up, only 3 was from the signed up list. and I am wondering if there is something that I did wrong or if the event was not advertized enough. How do people actually get more people. The weather was not favorable so we could not really do much. but it was my first time I guess, I hope next time will be better. I am counting on any of your advises, strategies in how you made your event more successfull. I will be reading your post with interest.

that is wonderful you hosted a pledge drive! thank you so much for your work.

In my experience...If you get 50% to an event that is exceptional. People just don't always show. 30% or so seems normal.

besides posting your event on this site (and in your groups) it helps to post some flyers around the boards in town, send an email to friends or the local mybarackobama.com group, and if you are on any other networking sites like twitter or myspace use them to get the word out.

As for canvassing-
TIPS.
If in a more public place it is best to call ahead and talk to the owner or supervisor (if YES ask them to tell the workers, if they are not going to be there at that time, so you do not have to worry about miscommunication).

NON chain places are easier to work with since they do not have to go to headquarters and all.

Never arranged before hand BUT restaurants that are busy and those that have a wait would be perfect. We did get some voter reg this way... waiting in line... asking if folks were registered. We usually found someone that had not.

Near a busy church is also nice but NOT on their property
