Getting back in it...

I have not been very active with the campaign for the last month. I was really disappointed in the FISA decision. That, and the fact that I have two kids full time for the summer, made it harder to get the motivation to get much done. Yet I think there is too much at stake in this election not to do everything I can to ensure that Obama is elected. I think this country is at a tipping point and we really can't afford a McCain presidency. The Supreme Court seats alone could fundamentally change the direction of the country, not to mention the impact of global climate change. I also still believe that Obama's record and history demonstrate that he does represent my overall values. Further, he will be our candidate. He will have been elected due to support from people at the grassroots who he has said he will listen to. It will simply be our job as citizens to make sure that we make our voices heard, and take part in supporting the issues we believe in. I'm trying to take to heart the slogan that we are the change we've been waiting for. I still have hope.

I am pleased to see that your disappointment over FISA did not lead you to a reaction that would have been disproportionate to the supposed offense by Senator Obama. I am also sure that Obama, as the father of two young girls, would certainly appreciate that your own kids are and should be your highest priority.

I only want to add that, regarding FISA, the only realistic chance to get the offending part of it changed next year is to elect Obama as president this year. In my opinion, however, and as you have suggested, the Supreme Court is far more important than whether or not the telecoms companies have legal immunity from civil (but not criminal) lawsuits.

Thanks for writing this. Everyone has different priorities, and while his vote on the new FISA bill is absolutely shameful, Obama's going to make these mistakes.

FISA isn't the only thing people strongly disagree with Obama on, it's just a straw on the camel's back and everyone has their limits and priorities.
